Welcome ladies, new and old. Grin May we all have dull and boring pregnancies. Pull up a chair, crack open a bottle of (non-alcoholic) wine and settle in for mutual handholding, fishslapping and neurosis.

Good luck Christine and Thunder I am sure that everything will go really well for you tomorrow! Lovely to read all the happy news on the thread this morning Ralph - that is beautiful!!

I'm jealous of all your new kitchens - we've decided to prioritise getting our bathroom redone as I am currently having to do the handheld shower in the bath thing... told DH I am not clambering in and out of there when I am heavily pg so we're getting the whole thing gutted and refitted (apparently) next month. I'm hoping that once we've chosen all the furniture and tiling I can disappear for a weekend and come back to find it all done! DIY is not my forte :)

ye gods looking after 2x 2 year olds today... have got through most of my planned activities already...cake decorating only lasted half an hour, the singing group we usually go to was cancelled... went for a walk with their doll buggies and it was like a Benny hill sketch, one too fast, one too slow, one with far less road safety awareness... argh! mine has been a whingy petulant non sharing mess although interestingly as soon as I leave the room they get along brilliantly. It's raining which means no garden time... could be a long afternoon! good practice though eh!

While we're all waiting for some scan news - does anyone here exercise during pregnancy and how did you/ are you managing it through the first trimester? Before the BFP I used to do high impact aerobics 3/4 days a week but haven't managed any at all for the past two months (apart from two sessions which exhausted me). The nausea and the tiredness just mean I want to stay in bed all the time. I am putting on weight at a fairly alarming rate and can't even now climb the stairs at the station without getting horribly out of breath. Does anyone have any advice? I have an ante-natal workout which is low impact and pregnancy friendly - do you just push through the nausea and hope you don't throw up/pass out?

kjh I just continued my normal walking (1 hr back and forth to work daily) and weekend cycling up until spd hit last time. I kinda think that if you're feeling rubbish that's your body saying it needs to rest and concentrate on establishing the pregnancy at the moment. A lot of women get a real surge of energy in 2nd trimester (i felt amazing last time!) so hopefully you will and that might be a good time to get back into workouts. Breathlessness is a pregnancy symptom (obviously as bump pushes into diaphragm later but apparently it can affect you earlier too, not sure why, but a friend of mine knew whenever she got pregnant cos that was always her first symptom) so it doesn't necessarily mean your fitness levels have dropped, just that there's more demand on your body.

Just wondering today if its ok to start wearing maternity tops etc when your bump is barely any baby but lots of bloating Hmm

Kjh, I am pretty sure breathlessness is just part of pregnancy and not related to being unfit. It's something to do with the fact that all the extra blood you're making/rerouting means less oxygen to use.

Personally (and I'm a bit of a sloth when it comes to exercise), I would say listen to your body and don't push it. If you feel like resting then its probably because you need to. Is it possible to ignore the guilt for a bit- its in the interest of your baby after all. Not easy after you have been so disciplined I'm sure! And respect to you for being so good!

I have been making myself do walking... fresh air and all that... The spinning babies website recommended belly dancing! But it does have suggestions exercises for the 1st trimester on there - ones that will help position the baby as pregnancy progresses like back stretches etc....
I have to say though I won't be trying the belly dancing though, I would be terrified to shake baby loose!!

Belly dancing Shock oh my goodness! I suppose it opens up your pelvis for delivery but it looks blooming hard work to me!

Giggling at baby dropping out Grin

Pixielady83 · 06/09/2013 15:54

or rather shaking loose... but I could imagine it dropping out if things got a bit enthusiastic and your pelvic floor wasn't what it used to be

Thundercatsarego · 06/09/2013 16:00

That sounds like a nice alternative to labour!

TeaAndANatter · 06/09/2013 16:59

Oh wow. Imagine if you didn't need to labour, but it just dropped out when it was cooked. Fantastic!

Grin if you could just belly dance the baby out that would be brilliant! Visions of heavily pg women in the maternity ward at the hospital getting their wiggle on is making me giggle!

Thanks for the advice (and sloth validation!) I have been super disciplined for the past two years on the exercise front due to trying to lose weight for my wedding back in April - sadly I'll never be skinny or thin, too many fat cells curves for that but I found that my hate/hate relationship with exercise turned into a love/hate relationship and now I'm not doing any I am missing it and feel guilty as all hell about that

I shall take your advice and only do something if I feel like it - here's hoping for an energy-filled second trimester which is only four weeks away. Man I can't even imagine making it that far at this point!

Hurrah Omri!!! What exciting news to start a Friday evening with :) very happy for you xx

Kat I'm the same as you don't want to put on too much weight during the pg if I can help it. I have learned that you do need to take the intensity level down a notch or two when you're pg but every health professional I have spoken to says it is encouraged so I'm sure it'll be ok. I'm going to try and fit three or four sessions in over the next few days. Got a wedding next Friday and I'm worried I won't fit into the dress!
