Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

I had a poo! Thanks

love you, lactulose

Meerka · 09/09/2013 11:29

I will ring them shortly, Lucinda. Thank you. Unfortunately I live in the Netherlands now so the people at that number may not be able to help.

Scan and gyne appt on wed so I'm hanging on for that and hoping the gyne can help. Truly don't think I can go through it without help again.

Son's going to afterschool care now though. Dislike the necessity for it but being there for him and looking after him is not possible with the nausea and retching.

Eating all the time to get rid of the extreme excess saliva and vile taste in my mouth!

Totesamazeballs · 09/09/2013 12:12

Hi all,

Meerka - I hope you can get the meds. A gynae will hopefully be more understanding than a GP.

Glad the lactulose is working for you peeps.

MOG - gaviscon Definately made me more sick. I find the nights very hard and can't normally drop off until midnight as I feel so sick. It's tough.

At the moment I am sooo thirsty but can't drink.....it's like being stranded on a desert island surrounded by salty sea!

MurderOfGoths · 09/09/2013 12:13

I'm jealous of your poo choc maybe I should ask the gp for lactulose, I'm on laxido and it's doing sod all.

Oh god the thirst is awful isn't it?

Sally8655 · 09/09/2013 12:28

Just for the ladies suffering constipation. I've noticed the past couple of weeks, the days I've been able to have some shredded wheat for breakfast I've gone within a couple of hours comfortably. Also beans in Brown toast seems to have a similar effect. I've not suffered since. Could be a coincidence though. Also not very helpful if you can't keep anything down :-(

I'm living off my nachos, cheese and salsa for lunch and dinner at the moment. It's quite light but filling at the same time and really the only thing I fancy. Still eating fruit a couple times a day too. Lollies are also keeping me going alongside frozen bottles of water, just sipping it as it melts.
Wish I had a mr frosty machine so I could just eat loads of crushed ice :-)

Changing pic to belly photo, for some reason you have to turn it to the side? No idea why it's rotated.

Xxx

Sally8655 · 09/09/2013 12:33

Haha, now I've got 2 bump pics identical. It seems to change my previous pic to duplicate the one just added. Ruddy computers!

Hyperhelpmum · 09/09/2013 13:36

Anyone who has felt sick all the way through got any advice for the last trimester? Feeling so fed up and drained as its getting worse again :( day off work today and DC in school preschool and trying to rest as work tomorrow. Just felt sick all morning. Worth starting ondansetron again? :(

MurderOfGoths · 09/09/2013 13:56

I would do hyper The last trimester is draining enough without the nausea.

Hyperhelpmum · 09/09/2013 14:06

Worried about baby but guess I was on it weeks 5-17 so staring again can't be that bad. Real faff as only consultant will prescribe in my area so need to get on to them. Real hassle. I don't find any other meds do a thing for my nausea.

Meerka · 09/09/2013 15:10

Hyper, there'd be no reason [not] to start the ondansetron again? Once the baby is born you will feel better, but babies are tiring all by themselves and it's good to be in as good condition as possible ... and for the birth itself too.

totes, before HG last time I'd never have dreamed you could be sick and hungry at the same time, or not wanting to drink and thirsty! I hope it eases for you soon.

The Pregnancy Sickness number did not ring back, though I suppose it's only been a few hours. But an English friend is going to ring up for me. I just hope that they won't get tricky about prescribing it for someone out of the country :/ am fortunate enough to be able to arrange payment for it off the NHS, for which I'm very grateful, but just finding a source for it is the hard thing. The netherlands seem extremely reluctant to prescribe meds at all for anything.

That's an impressive bump sally :)

Meerka · 09/09/2013 15:11

sorry, i got the wrong keyboard thingie - I meant that there'd be no reason not to start the meds again, so you're in as good a condition as poss!

Hyperhelpmum · 09/09/2013 15:16

Having a section so not too concerned re birth but agree I need to be as well as possible, just for the sake of DS1 and DS 2 who are 5 and 3 so need me a lot still. Just don't want to harm baby who feels very real and babylike now at 30 weeks!!!! I agree though. Prob the only choice really.

Totesamazeballs · 09/09/2013 15:40

Sally - do you know the sex? I know it's an old wives tail but I reckon you are carrying a girl. I can't remember how big my bump was at your stage but I know I was always on track measurements wise...can't remember is it an inch or cm per week? I am tall as well so always hide that sort of thing well. i think height makes a difference. i saw a friend recently who was a few weeks further along than you and i thought she looked further along than she was but she isnt very tall.

Meerka, how are you feeling? Do you feel like you are going down the HG route?

Sorry you are feeling crappy hyperhelpmum.

I haven't been sick today. In fact the edge seems to have gone...I know this is stupid but panicking now that sth is wrong. Maybe I ought to call the docs and say I am worried? They will laugh at me won't they? I am such a worrier but I was so convinced I would be in this until at least 16 weeks like last time. It's just weird. I will be 10 weeks tomorrow according to dates, 9.5 weeks according to last scan. Surely this is prime vom time?

Meerka · 09/09/2013 16:57

totes it's certainly still lurking, if I get the slightest tired the full on HG nausea comes back. I'm retching more and more but food and drink is still staying down. So ... Im not sure yet if it's going to be the full blown HG. the next 14 days will be the teller.

you -are- in prime vomitting time from all that people say, yes. Either you're having a few days luck or maybe it will continue. Hormones do go up and down a lot, it seems. Dilsa would know more. When is your next scan, 12 weeks?

Pregnancy sickness support just rang me back, bless them, and they seem really understanding and helpful. Try them?

Sally8655 · 09/09/2013 17:09

Totes I don't know the sex till next Monday, hopefully anyway. I'm 5ft 7 so about average. It would be nice for a girl, although ill have to you tube how to take care of afro hair as our baby will be mixed race, I think there is a thread on here dedicated to it, ill have to check it out :-) My husband wants a boy to play football with in later years, lol. I'll be happy just so long as we have a healthy baby whatever the sex.

Hyperhelpmum · 09/09/2013 18:07

Hi totes don't panic (though I did!). I had some good days and even went to GP saying I felt ok after two hospital admissions. She just said 'do you feel pregnant' ..... I couldn't really answer that as all three pregnancies have been vom city in the early days so no I didn't feel pregnant. Needless to say it returned and I carried on committing to 18 weeks and now feel nauseous as hell again at 30 weeks after a few good weeks. I think girls make you sicker and it lasts longer/ all the way. I felt fine by 20 weeks with both my boys.

hello all. just catching up.
hyper i had to up my dose of ondansatron at 33ish weeks last pg.
was down to one a day but sickness returned quite bad last trimester.
constipation is bad again. currently back to using suppositories and ahem... manual evacuation.
nearly 18 weeks now. still feel sick at some points
thru the day but eating and drinking fine.
murder totally get your comments a few posts above. i used to cry myself to sleep hoping for a mc. its awful but that's what hg does to you x

MurderOfGoths · 09/09/2013 19:28

Just back from the doctor, she wants me to reduce the steroids as my heart rate is a little high.

ChocChaffinch · 09/09/2013 20:09

oh MOG do you think you'll be ok on less? how much do you have to save?

LucindaE · 09/09/2013 20:22

Meerka I'm glad they are helping on Pregnancy Sickness Support.
MOG That is a bit worrying for you, hugs. and Hugs to you and Feekerry over having to lie there wishing for the worst, things were so bad.
Feekerry Grin Sorry it's back to that, do be gentle, not to set off piles, but better than suffering for days!
Choc What a relief!
Sally I thought it was just me who had problems with uploading photos! If you are average at five foot seven, for sure I am under at five foot five and a half, what a blow!

MOG The names of these meds. I am afraid things like 'Laxido'. Obviously, for genteel people, 'Ushite' would be my coarse suggestion, that's why I'd be no good on an advertising team...
Totes Just for reassurance it might be an idea, but as others say, probably just a good day. That seems to happen to quite a few on here, and the worry spoils the good day!
Champagne Sorry about lingering sickness - lol about goblin, though! That's a wonderful description.
Hyper Sorry it's come back - thirty weeks, not so far off now - I agree with others about it being a good idea to take meds. When does ML start? With two lO's and working, coping with lingering Hyperemesis is no joke at all.
Usual apologies to anyone overlooked.
Lucinda

Thanks all. Will call consultants secretary tomorrow. Hi lucinda I'm 30 weeks now having a section at 38 or 39 weeks which is 7th or 12th nov. feels ages away :( terrible heartburn on top of nausea not helping. Going to try some more gaviscon (heave) and go to bed I think.

Mummychuong · 09/09/2013 20:39

Hi everyone! I've been quietly watching every one for a while nw this thread has been a lifesaver with some off the tips I'm currently 24 weeks pregnant with my 4th hg pregancy, I'm taking ondronastron had got it down to 1 a day nw back on 2 a day the sickness is slowly creeping back up had 3 hospital stays within weeks 6-12 but have been managing so far with just the tablets from then I'm usually better at this stage in my other pregnancies my youngest is nw 6 can't bear the thought off getting as bad as that again just wanted to enjoy this pregancy as it will be my last

ChocChaffinch · 09/09/2013 21:04

MummyC - sorry to hear you aren't well, welcome to the sicko's club Grin
I ate most of a tub of Ben & Jerry today - Karamel Sutra. It didn't taste like it was going sour as it did 2 weeks ago.
need to take my folic acid and lactulose now
have bought gaviscon today for bedside slurping in a few weeks :-/ best to be prepared

Sally8655 · 09/09/2013 21:07

Lucinda, I didn't mean to say anybody shorter was under average, sorry it came out wrong :-) just meant that I'm neither short or tall.

Another day with no meds. Feeling pretty awful now. Had some mushroom soup and its repeating on me. Hugging my hot water bottle and hoping to get an early night xx
