Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

oh and anyone who likes the whole tinned fruit and syrup thing in aldi you can get huge plastic tubs of peaches and maybe pears. they are really good and way cheaper than the tins

Meerka · 03/10/2013 12:39

heh yeah. some people can eat only junk food! HG, so individual in taste, so generic in misery.

29 weeks 5 1/2 days here, choc. you can get there first and shout down from the highlands of blissed non-sickness, with a baby on your shoulder :)

ChocChaffinch · 03/10/2013 12:59

who here actually has a maternity exemption card?

How do I get one? chemist keeps asking, I keep fobbing off

ChocChaffinch · 03/10/2013 13:00

meerka - baby on my shoulder!!

ChocChaffinch · 03/10/2013 13:02

oh yeah - do you know what is unbearably, disgustingly gross? condensation on things

the diet coke advert where they ogle the gardener, some drips fall off the can and I heave!
I hate touching stuff in the freezer with ice on too

MurderOfBanshees · 03/10/2013 13:03

I assume through your midwife choc?

Question for those on ondansetron and lactulose, are you taking the lactulose daily and how much? Really struggling to get the constipation to an even bearable level.

I can't have anything which is heavily milk/dairy based, funny as I was lactose intolerant as a baby (so is DS), problem is I was already suffering a calcium deficiency before pregnancy, so the gp isn't too happy. I have to take calcium supplements too now, but I'm struggling to ad more pills to the already large amount I take daily.

ChocChaffinch · 03/10/2013 13:24

I take 15ml lactulose twice a day it's loads. But I need it.
label says ''3 x5ml spoonfuls twice a day'' which is a bit daft

eggybrokenoff · 03/10/2013 13:50

banshee are there other sources of calcium? there must be - what do vegans have? pills are so hars to take.
nausea is returning now for me today. wonder if doc would let me have two ondansetron onw for morning and one to see me through afternoon and kids tea etc. how many are others taking?

IneedAsockamnesty · 03/10/2013 13:59

I'm a bit weirded out by it tbh because they have said that come hell or high water the baby's coming out over that 48 hour period.

I'm currently 33 weeks but have started to have some very horrible problems not just with food coming up but pain and throat bleeding when I try to get food down it.so it does need to happen.

MurderOfBanshees · 03/10/2013 14:03

I'm not sure, must be musn't there?

I take 3 ondansetron a day

Meerka · 03/10/2013 14:21

god sockpixie. Hope yoru throat gets better :s

eggybrokenoff · 03/10/2013 14:24

jeez sock that it awful. i had a bad throat woth ds1 but never bleeding! are you on meds? is this a first pg? you must be counting the days! i remember ice cream sometimea helped me does it work for you at all?

misspope24 · 03/10/2013 15:24

I've got 30!!!

misspope24 · 03/10/2013 16:22

I take 2 a day, was taking 4 but doctor wanted me to reduce it

misspope24 · 03/10/2013 16:56

Ritz biscuits are the only thing getting me through HG
Godsend !!

IneedAsockamnesty · 03/10/2013 17:26

A the moment I'm on steroids ones beginning with P but stupidly they come in 5 mg so I have to take loads and I'm having jabs in my arse as well and they sting.

Interestingly I look like a horror movie actress as my neck is back and blue due to the drips so I've been pretending I'm an extra on lunch break.

And no not a first pregnancy I've had this happen loads.but somehow each time every time a few years pass I bloody forget.

MurderOfBanshees · 03/10/2013 17:32

I'm on those too Sock, Prednisolone I think? I have to take 25mg, so 5 pills at a time. Which are guaranteed to make me feel more nauseous after taking so many, even if I'm lucky and they don't break in my mouth.

Totesamazeballs · 03/10/2013 17:43

My diet consists solely of bagels, dairy lea ( a new addition), quavers, salt and vinegar crisps and oranges with the occasional emergency sweet if I am out and feeling close to the edge.

I must eat four bagels a day, several triangles of cheese, 4 oranges and countless crisps! I find eating every two hours is a must.

Cheesy ritz or tuck biscuits got me through the first few weeks, as did matzos with marmite.

Calcium is found in green leafy veg if you can cope with any?

Go my downs risk back today. Says 1 in 390 which is apparently 'low'. I seem to remember it being much lower with DS. My PAPP -A was very low though which is concerning me and might be why my risk is higher than it should be for my age. Not sure if I should worry or not.

Sally8655 · 03/10/2013 18:23

Hi all, really suffering here. Got a really sore throat, cough and flu type head. Also voming green stuff. Feel so sick and really weak. It's like weeks 7-12 all over again, I could just cry. I honestly thought I was over the worst and I was feeling like I could cope with the remaining sickness, then this.
Taken meds which have not helped at all. I know ive pushed myself alot lately but I was feeling a bit better. :-(

Meerka · 03/10/2013 18:40

oh sally, commiserations ...

eggybrokenoff · 03/10/2013 18:46

hi sally. that sounds vile and horrible. when you think youve turned a corner and relapse it is so cruel. can you get a decent amount of rest and try and focus on getting some fluid into you?

IneedAsockamnesty · 03/10/2013 18:47

That's the ones murder

LucindaE · 03/10/2013 19:53

Goodness, this thread is moving quickly.
Sally Poor, poor you, gentle pats. There is a bug going about, it just might be that, don't despair even if it is a relapse, they don't tend to last.
Soc Welcome back, poor you too with that throat, glad you are near the end. Those neck marks sound dramatic, glad you can make light of it.
MissPope Poor you as well, gentle pats on offer generally to all suffering badly.
EggyI so agree with MOG (lol about Banshees) about jelly and ice lollies and Meerka about flat coke and all about kestostix, and Choc about the juice of tinned fruit. I used to find that very appealing. Also, I did know a woman on another thread who swore by making a juice out of fresh melon and freezing it into cubes, but these things are so individual.
MoG Maybe the glucose thing is why many women on here long for Lucozade, I know when suffering I did.
Totes Try not to worry - that is a low risk - I was given a risk of one in thirty-three, years ahead of my age. Off the top of my head, doesn't your risk work out as something like 0.26 out of 100?
Feekerry Poor you too about mega puke - sounds nasty - and good luck for hospital appointment. I'm glad others have been able to provide some knowledgeable reassurance, I hadn't even heard of this condition.
Jen Congratulations on maternity trousers, at last.
Champagne It is a nasty stroke from fate- it is ironic that a second quote a found comforting as well as 'This Too Shall Pass' was also from a man - 'The blow that doesn't kill you makes you strong'. If you can get through this, then you know you are one tough woman.
Choc Never worry about tmi - can't be such a thing on such a topic as this illness. I remember that phlegm well, it adds to the delights of the saliva and the belching of bile...
I hope SicandSpan and Everyone is coping, and Tallyra if she's lurking and apologies if I've ignored anyone.
Lucinda
xx

Thanks meerka, I'm in bed trying to sip water now eggy.
Swallowing is so painful with my throat as bad as it is. I've also got really bad sores in my mouth, so whenever I move my tongue it awful too. I'm so fed up.
I was due to get flu jab today, looks like its too late :-(

jenpatnim · 03/10/2013 19:55

Wow guys, I should shuffle off somewhere quietly as I am feeling ok again. The nausea is at a minimum, I am able to eat normally (although I am preferring easy things like oven chips and chicken kiev than proper cooking). I am managing three meals a day, some snacks like choccy bars and popcorn etc. The nausea pops up every now and again and it is tricky but manageable.

I am off the lactulose (although the dr prescibed it at 15ml 2x per day), drinking tea, fizzy water and whatever I like. I am tired, although I am getting on well at work and enjoying the teaching :)

OH is OVER THE MOON it's a boy. He wants to paint the nursery a nice green, which I am cool with, although names are a contentious issue still.

Maybe I can give you guys hope - I am 21 weeks tomorrow and feeling pretty normal. HG might give you the odd bit of relief, like I am experiencing.
