Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Sorry you are feeling so crap Sally! Flu on top is just horrendous.

Glad you are leading. More normal life Jen. Hope!

feekerry · 03/10/2013 20:40

totes that is stick a fair bit within the low threshold. try not to worry. as lucinda says that works out to be less than a quarter of a percent!!
sorry you feel crap sally not too much longer now. how long till you hit 3rd trimester?
choc was it you asking re mat exempt card?? do u pay for your prescriptions then??? i got mine just for that reason as i would be bankrupt having to pay for all my bloody pregnancy drugs!!

ChocChaffinch · 03/10/2013 20:43

no I haven't been paying...would be up to a hundred quid by now! they always ask for it though

feekerry · 03/10/2013 21:06

ye i got mine at 12 weeks i think and up until then i had to pay and get a receipt as i would be refunded when my card came thru. when i got my refunds at apprx 12 weeks pg my refund totalled 132 pounds!!!!

Totesamazeballs · 03/10/2013 21:56

Also, my PAPP A result is low. Nothing been said but it's scary reading on google. Anyone know anything about that?

Signed
Worrying about everything

jenpatnim · 03/10/2013 22:42

Totes, I didn't get a PAPP A result, I have never heard that term. Now I am worrying they have neglected to test something important.

Sally8655 · 03/10/2013 22:54

I'm 24 weeks today fee, so a couple weeks of 2nd tri left. Just want this all over with now!!

ChocChaffinch · 04/10/2013 10:25

Totes...doctor google is a maniac, don't believe what he says

eggybrokenoff · 04/10/2013 11:08

never heard of that totes - and i had to have an amnio with ds1 as risk was pretty high. they would have said if it was worrying and offered next steps surely?

ChocChaffinch · 04/10/2013 12:15

goddamn it why am I now having a massive pre-lunch vomming session?? ondansatron don't you lose your power Sad

14.3 wks

misspope24 · 04/10/2013 13:25

I went doctors today as nausea was dehydrating me and was told to combine 2 a day ondansetron with 3 a day cyclizine, anyone tried this?

ChocChaffinch · 04/10/2013 13:54

they gave me an 8hr shot of ondansatron in hospital, and a cyclizine tablet at lunch, but my gp said not to combine anti emetics at home,
I take 3 ondansatron 4 mg per day, that's quite a high dose but I still vomit a few times a day; probably due to a combo of a) anxiety before meals as I can't think what to eat and b) allowing self to not eat for 1hour or more Hmm
I think much of my nausea is worsened by my worrying about vomiting, when I'm at work and more mentally occupied I seem to vom less.

misspope24 · 04/10/2013 13:57

It's so hard to know which doctors are right and which are just opinionated- the top consultant at my hospital said to avoid ondansetron full stop and if I'm taking it I should be hospitalised anyway, but my gp gave it to me without a thought. My gp had hyperemisis and all she gives me she tried herself with her pregnancy x

eggybrokenoff · 04/10/2013 14:08

with my last pg the practice manager had a huge go about the cost of ondansetron to the surgery. i said it was cheaper surely than having me admitted. he said he hoped i would never have another (well hopefully i am so ha).

i understand the anxiety about what to eat. i feel really bad if i can only manage junk so i rack my brains for a healthy snack idea i can face and then end up getting sick cos ive waited too long. i hate not getting joy from food - i bloody love food normally

LucindaE · 04/10/2013 14:26

*Would you believe hhis, my telephone line is down again. It was back about four days.I'm typing this from library pc. Furious, really sorry, they don't even work on weedends,so realistically it may not be back before Tuesday (three workng days).
Everyone Look after yourselves.
EggyI have to say Iam horrified at the insensitivity of that practice manager. That is anoutrageousremark!

That's not right, I was annoyed enough with my temporary gp laughing at me complaining I felt terrible because it was my first and betting I wouldn't have anymore. If you haven't been through HG you'll never know!!!

Totesamazeballs · 04/10/2013 15:31

Jeez Eggy! I can't believe you were told that! How rude and inappropriate.
Lucinda - argh! How annoying! Bloomin technology!
Misspope - I am afraid I can't advise you. Perhaps you could call the pregnancy sickness helpline for reassurance?
Jen - my PAPP A result came back in my 12 week scan result and bloods letter. It didn't say it was low but I know it is and is the cause for my risk being higher than it should be at my age. If you had the 12 week scan and blood test they would have done it.
How is everyone else doing? Sally? Still lurgyfied? It has struck our house unfortunately and I spent lunch cleaning up DSs vomit. I can feel myself coming down too. Oh well! At least it's the weekend so long suffering DH is around. Definitely getting better on the sickness front. Haven't vommed since the weekend and have more energy. Was way more sick with DS at this stage. I am hoping it's not a temporary change. Still battling on with bagels, butter, oranges and crisps. That's all a gal needs right?

Sally8655 · 04/10/2013 16:19

Totes, I'm here but no energy to type much. Sorry.
Feeling awful and a little concerned. Im so pale and funny feeling in chest amongst other symotoms. Going to call the docs now xx

eggybrokenoff · 04/10/2013 16:44

he was a knob. he also took the opportunity for a rant about women on meds for depression being pregnant - i understand that lot of treatment cant be taken while pg. didnt apply to me so not sure why he was raving about it!

took two ondansetron today and they have lasted til now when im going downhill fast. thought i really wanted garlic bread for tea but now smell of garlic is making me feel sick doh. oh well the kids will eat it they love the stuff!

eggybrokenoff · 04/10/2013 16:45

ooh sally that sounds horrible - hope you get some advice before the weekend

IneedAsockamnesty · 04/10/2013 17:05

This is helpful for anyone who is employed

Totesamazeballs · 04/10/2013 18:27

Hi Sally, hope you can get some help or reassurance from the doc. I am going downhill fast in terms of the lurgy. Bugger!! Mum came over this afternoon fortunately so I slept which was great as we had a disrupted night with DS coughing away. Really hoping he isn't sick again through coughing tonight. I am sick of sick!

Eggy - some docs are too tough. I understand they need to be tough in their line of work because they must get people complaining about nothing much but their lives must have got pretty bad if they can't recognise the genuine cases.

DH busy applying for jobs but some seem so far away. Sad Next week is going to be a real test as I will be doing all of the childcare ( DH does bedtime and bath at the mo). I wouldn't blink an eyelid if I felt well. Got an evening trip booked for next week. Just not sure how I am going to manage it as evenings are the worst time.

MurderOfBanshees · 04/10/2013 18:36

eggy He sounds like an utter cunt Angry

sally Thinking of you sweetheart xxx

DS is teething atm, so there've been a lot of sleepless nights. I am feeling so worn out. Got my 16 week check soon though, so just focussing on that.

feekerry · 04/10/2013 18:59

miss
take it from a hg pro......! ondansatron and cyclzine together is normally the most effective weapon against hg. they are both different types of anti emetics so tackle different bits of the hg.
last pg i took the 2 combined, 3 a day of each until about 24 weeks and grad cut down to 1 of each a day.
this pg i have just cut down to 2 a day of each at 22 weeks.
there is no way on earth i would have survived on just one type of anti emetic.
in fact i also sometimes take metraclopimide as a 3rd anti emetic for good measure!
it is common practice to combine anti emetics for severe hg. x

ChocChaffinch · 04/10/2013 19:54

eggy - it is joy. joy missing from life. People talk about food, prepare it, savour it, go out for meals, talk of it afterwards... and with HG you become an alien in that world.
Coupled with the fact every other advert on tv is about food..everyone talks about it 24/7 ... you can't walk down the average street without passing/smelling a greasy chippy or Chinese.
