Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

I would also say, if you breast feed, be prepared to be 'bullish with the doctors
if you get mastitis symptoms - fluey, hot boobs, sore, temperature, you have to get an emerg appointment for antibiots and don't let the ruddy docs argue
my dd accidently bit me, with no teeth, I got a nipple infection, agony, fed from the other side and again emerg doc appointment = fast antibiotics = fast healing. it's a priority when you are feeding a baby every hour... you need urgent healthcare

my poor friend got mastitis and doc misdiagnosed, told her to just keep feeding, if she'd just given her antibiots she could have kept bf. as it was so got quite ill and switched to bottles. doctor fail.

Totesamazeballs · 19/09/2013 13:01

I had a disaster with breast feeding as DS had to go onto the bottle on day one in hospital due to needing antibiotics. He never quite got the hang of sucking from the boob and that combined with a deep tongue tie meant several weeks of him chewing my boobs, absolute agony for me and having to do bottle top ups. I spent money on lactation consultants who in the end told me to abandon ship!

I expressed until I got a massive episiotomy infection and had to go onto two sets of antibiotics. It was a very unhappy and emotional time and if it happens again I will be disappointed but I won't beat myself up like I did. Giving the, the colostrum is the most important thing and if you can breast feed and enjoy it then that is wonderful but if you can't it's not the end of the world either.

Totesamazeballs · 19/09/2013 13:05

And regarding antenatal classes. I found it useful but we did get a bit if a skewed view about certain things like pain relief during labour and breast feeding. The former was conveyed as evil and the latter as simple as 123. I found that to be inaccurate in my case! Pain relief was a Godsend.

Meerka · 19/09/2013 13:17

uh, are you supposed to go to antenatal classes if it's your second? I've sort of forgotten everythign anyway, had real trouble with the language and didnt understand a lot of what was being said. All I remember is that you have to wait when the baby's head crowns for a minute or two ...

ChocChaffinch · 19/09/2013 13:33

nah, I don't hold much sway with them kinds of things.. esp. when the practitioners haven't had kids themselves. Don't get me started on the general bollocks HV come out with

you'd know more than them, meerka

Meerka · 19/09/2013 13:54

oh ok. the midwives present at the birth gave me a crash course in heavy breathing (is it called lamaze?) in between contractions which surprisingly did help.

mainly I remember it hurting like holy bloody hell, wanting an epidural but I'd left it too late, and then it was all over and I didn't feel sick any more. Four months later I was still sky high over feeling normal again, heh.

ChocChaffinch · 19/09/2013 14:08

that's lovely Meerka Smile it DOES end only 6 mths to go

feekerry · 19/09/2013 18:24

liking your style choc another here who cba with antenatal classes and all that crap.
went to 1 with my first but really wouldn't waste my time again. sally think i booked onto min around 25 weeks and the first one was when you were about 37 weeks so ages yet!!

yy to lucinda comment re baby giving breast relief. when that milk comes in you will want that babe attached at all times to relieve rock boobs!

Totesamazeballs · 19/09/2013 20:58

I think the most useful things I learnt were what the different types of pain relief were and I think it is good to have an idea before you go in, signs of labour, when to rush to hospital (eg if there is meconium in your waters) and the technique of not pushing but panting...like blowing out birthday candles...that i needed to use.

Otherwise, we spent a fair bit of time on how our partners should arrange the room so its relaxing! Hmm

Sally8655 · 19/09/2013 22:52

Thanks for the info ladies :-)

I'll sort out the classes at my next appointment.
Another not so good day, feeling very sick and very upset still about dh leaving in the morning.
If anything I'm now worried about him, crazy I know! Keep telling myself he's a grown man and travelled all over. These emotional highs and lows are awful. Looking forward to my hormones going back to normal.

Off to sleep now, hope you all are doing ok. Thinking of all you sufferers too xxx

Meerka · 20/09/2013 07:49

very best of luck, sally. really hope you arent too bad the next days and that you can get a bit of help

jenpatnim · 20/09/2013 07:55

Good luck, Sally. I hope that you'll be ok and get loads of support.

peanut86 · 20/09/2013 11:49

I'm back, with my tail between my legs. Had 8 lovely sick free days! And it's back with a vengeance Hmm

Totesamazeballs · 20/09/2013 12:57

Good luck Sally. It's a daunting prospect being on your own and pregnancy can make you feel super anxious about things that wouldn't normally bother you.

Sorry to hear that Peanut. I haven't had too bad a week but as a result of disturbed nights with DS (3 hours last night) I am rough today. Keep retching, awful mouth taste...yuck. Can't bear to clean my teeth.

MurderOfGoths · 20/09/2013 16:55

Hope you are doing ok Sally, can understand why you are struggling!

Oh peanut sorry to see you back, was so happy to hear you'd got a break

I am feeling rough as fuck, meant to be going to my cousin's wedding tomorrow, but I am far too ill. Can't even sit up without feeling bile in my throat today.

LucindaE · 20/09/2013 17:03

Peanuts Sorry you are suffering again, I hope it is just a hormonal surge that will tail off.
Totes Aagh! About up three hours last night. That is tough at the best of times.
Sally I'm joining the others in wishing you all luck in coping without OH.
Feekerry Lol about those rock hard breasts! Very uncomfortable.
Meerka I vaguely remember them being recommended for first timers and a matter of choice for others - it was many years ago for me. I don't think there was anything you couldn't pick up from reading round on the topic.
Jen Patio Tallyra LittleMachine and Everyone I hope coping.

Thanks everybody

It's been an awful day so far. Couldn't stop crying when saying bye at the airport and couldn't drive back home straight away from crying too. I know it's so silly but just can't seem to stop!
Once I managed to somewhat control myself I couldn't think properly and got lost in the flippin car park and spent so long, in the end the Payment card wouldn't let me out at the barrier so had to park up again, go back in and pay for 9 ruddy minutes. Got lost in my way home, thank you stupid sat nav.
Once home I had to tackle online food shopping, blah ;-(
Now I'm having to arrange van hire and dismantle furniture in time for Tuesday, which is another long story in its self.

Well I now feel like I'm dying and couldn't even think about dinner. Grapefruit it is then! Head is killing so going to take some paracetamol and hope for the best.

Hugs to MOG, peanut and all xoxo

MurderOfGoths · 20/09/2013 17:36

sally I've been sobbing at nothing, so don't feel silly, you have at least a reason for it!

lucinda I know I can't make it, so many things about it will be a problem for me, not least the long car drive there.

Meerka · 20/09/2013 18:29

Ouch, tough time for everyone :(

Sally, we're here for ya for moral support ...

MoG, really sorry to hear about the wedding.

GL peanut, hope you feel better tomorrow

ChocChaffinch · 20/09/2013 20:21

if you cant bear to clean your teeth get some good alcohol free mouthwash - it's great for killing off loads saliva too

sorry MoG and Sally you're having it tough

trying to keep eating. I have a massive bump now. very nauseatic today

Totesamazeballs · 20/09/2013 22:42

Thanks for teeth cleaning tip. Managed to go near brush at 4pm but gonna try mouthwash tomorrow. Sorry to hear grim times all round and Sally - we are all here online for you. MOG, don't blame you. Car journeys anywhere are enough to impart fear!

jenpatnim · 20/09/2013 23:52

Hey guys. I tried to ease off on the metaclopramide and have had a tough few days with the constant nausea. I am eating, and I think it helps, but I have been feeling rotten.

Back on the tablets now.

Hugs to all.

MurderOfGoths · 21/09/2013 08:13

Last night was horrible, was up loads with cramps. Feel pretty awful now, am glad I'm not going today, but waiting for the repurcussionsl

Meerka · 21/09/2013 08:48

oh gawd, won't they understand? :( I suppose often people don't but hopefully they'll have seen the state you're in?
