Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Thanks Lucinda and everyone else for the reassurance.

Fantastic news on the scans! Glad they tell the gender now too.

Sally8655 · 18/09/2013 12:53

Glad scan were all good ladies

I'm back in bed feeling very sick. Taken meds and hoping they will help. Awful taste in mouth again which will not shift.
I did however manage a bowel movement earlier, thank goodness.

Meerka · 18/09/2013 13:04

that taste in mouth is just horrible isnt it?

Meerka · 18/09/2013 13:28

and the spitting. cant lie still, have to move to spit every minute, then that triggers the retching ... gah. never again moan, moan moan

Tallyra · 18/09/2013 14:51

hi all. scan yesterday was good. 9w2d, the furthest I've ever got. I went in expecting no hb and cried a bit when it waved at me.

I hate the spitting so much!

Totesamazeballs · 18/09/2013 15:16

Brilliant news Tallyra! Scans are so emotive.

Totesamazeballs · 18/09/2013 15:17

Hope the meds work Sally. I am sure I wouldn't be such a sweet addict if the flipping evil taste wasn't there.

Meerka · 18/09/2013 15:23

lovely to hear, Tallyra :)

SlinkyB · 18/09/2013 15:36

Congratulations on the positive scans Tallyra, MoG and Choc! Grin

jenpatnim · 18/09/2013 16:16

Congrats on the scans! Yay!

I had a bit of a moment in school - had to run off bus duty to retch madly. Still feel very nauseated so I just got into bed for a rest. I did, however, play with my amazon £20 Doppler. I was able to hear the heartbeat - it was soo faint I almost missed it, but then I was using body oil instead of the gel cause they give you such a tiny tube lol. But I'm happy and my belly smells very good lol.

12 days to the scan (and payday not that I'm counting... much! The car insurance people took my premium as a lump sum when I was sure I'd selected monthly payments so this month is a little tight. How am I going to manage on maternity pay? Ack)

Also gave my boss my dates for maternity leave. I'm technically only taking 6 months but my return date is 1st day of summer hols so I get another 7 weeks on top of that back up to full pay. I can't afford a year on stat mat leave and final 3 months unpaid. I earn more than OH and we'll need my salary.

feekerry · 18/09/2013 19:40

congrats on all the good scans.
tally that's great news!!!
xx to all xx

Totesamazeballs · 18/09/2013 19:49

Hope you can get some rest Jen. I have been in and out of bed all day.its the only way to cope sometimes.

ChocChaffinch · 18/09/2013 20:26

urgh Ive been major nausea city today, I think from drinking so much dang water for the scan. And my bladder was empty anyway as the water weirdly sat in my stomach for an hour.
but luckily the scanner could see the flipper so was fine. think I actually needed that water as only did one tiny wee after, and drank well over 1 pint......
have a weird sore throat which with ze minor cold I have is killing off my appetite. can't think of a single thing to eat, so living on biscuits, doughnuts, sweets, pasta and pizza. shocking diet. my iron bloods the level was really high though, and Im still taking the thiamine.. can I stop the folic now Im 12 +1?

jenpatnim · 18/09/2013 20:39

I think you can stop the folic now, Choc.

I had a nap and felt a bit better and had a very healthy KFC for dinner. Ah well, at least it is food, right?

ChocChaffinch · 18/09/2013 20:41

any food is better than no food.

mmm kfc!

some sites say stop folic at wk 13. does that mean the end of week 13 ie a day before wk 14!!

Totesamazeballs · 18/09/2013 22:00

I am living off cheese and chive pretzels.

Quick question...cue another worry...for those on DC 2 - were you showing much by the end of 12 weeks? I was very neat with DS and this time I have a teeny weeny curve..not really a bump..as tummy is normally flat (not boasting) but it could just as easily be bloat from the progesterone. I am worried this is a bad sign too. I keep reading about people really properly showing early with DC 2.

Totesamazeballs · 18/09/2013 22:01

Choc- I kept on with pregnancy re the whole way through. Didn't realise you could stop folic!

Totesamazeballs · 18/09/2013 22:02

Oh my goodness, leaky boob! I know it's supposed to happen but really grossed out. How on earth am I supposed to breast feed when this feels weird :-(

feekerry · 19/09/2013 07:05

oh sally! poor you. dont worry. it won't feel weird when he is here. promise.
i used to obsesse about my boobs in 1st pg. how leaky or non leaky they were etc. used to investigate every night in the bath. soon passes!x

Sally8655 · 19/09/2013 08:04

Fee I really don't know why I'm so weirded out by it. I never used to be very particular about my boobs. Even if my husband goes near them he gets told off :-)
It's not much, but happened again this morning. I know it's going to happen more often so I should get used to it by the time he's here.

Still quite sick too, meds not helping. Thanks to movicol I'm no longer constipated but very loose.
Got loads to do today with dh leaving tomorrow morning :-(
I've also got to drive him to the airport, goodness knows how I'm going to do that! I can't even remember how to get there. Lots of bathroom stuff arriving today for the contractors next week. It's all very stressful.

Can anybody tell me when I'm supposed to start booking the antenatal classes. They didn't even cross my mind till last night. I wouldn't bother with them but I am terrified of birth. Not so much the pain, well maybe a little about the pain but more so complications and blood loss. My midwife is useless and hasnt told me anything really. I'm sure I could do with the breast feeding one too :-)

Meerka · 19/09/2013 08:30

boob pads, if you haven't got them! Yeah breast feeding does feel weird (but nice as well). It takes a lot longer to get used to than people ever say and you do get sore at first. I persevered and I'm glad I did, it helped our son a lot with very dry skin, but lots of people find it just isn't for them.

When I look back actually, breastfeeding helped us bond. I was so weak for so long after the preg that I didn't really pay that much attention to him - I couldnt :( - and lying in bed b'feeding was a time we could be close. I'll always regret not being able to do more with him in those early years. And I am still angry with the indifference of the doctors / gyne / midwives who saw me puking puking puking and did nothing.

totes ... not got to 12 weeks yet but I'll say when I do!

LucindaE · 19/09/2013 08:46

Sally My breasts, not normally sensitive, were when pregnant - didn't like OH going near them at all either. It's a relief to have the baby taking the pressure from them by suckling - breasts are so sexualised these days I think it's hard for us to get used to the real purpose of them, if people see what I mean, but you come to see them as functional.
Choc and MOG Lovely news about scan and again for Tallyra. Choc I wonder if the liquid stays in the stomach if it isn't working properly with the nausea, besides food? Odd none came through. Can't remember, sorry, if you are on metroclopramide which is supposed to counter that...
Slinky Lovely to hear from you.
Meerka Cheering you on.
Hope Everyone is comparatively OK today.
Lucinda

nah I'm on ondansatron, which halts all stomach action; come to think of it that's probably why.

I breast fed my 2 dc found it hard with dd1 as I wasn't getting her to latch on properly, so my nipps got v sore. Ds2 was easy, big hungry slurping boy, opened his mouth really wide. some babies learn the skill of bf faster than others.
would recommend lansinoh nipple gel/cream none of the others as you have to wash them off before feeding - double ouchy. Lansinoh is pure lanolin oil so safe for baby. it's about a tenner but well well worth it. also breast pads, lots. don't keep them on when damp.
when I had ds I broke my coccyx so had to learn to feed lying down. heavenly to drift off in bed while feeding, we did co-sleep a bit as have a king size, and am a v light sleeper. co slept with them both, only way to get any sleep. ds ate for 20 mins every hour, day and night.
