Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Ive got a slight cold and it does impact on the HG now Im getting a sore throat so am eating jelly babies to help Grin

Meerka · 17/09/2013 13:42

oh god, cold and HG? arrrg :( I do hope it goes quick. For both of you - then DH won't be so grumpy! Glad at least he can drive you. Can't help thinking that driving with HG must be near impossible - what happens if you spew with no warnign and no time to park tries to find the 'oh shit' smiley

Totesamazeballs · 17/09/2013 16:58

MOG - are you having your scan at Watford? That is where I gave birth!

MurderOfGoths · 17/09/2013 16:59

Totes I am, DS was born there too. Have spent far too much time at that hospital!

Totesamazeballs · 17/09/2013 18:10

Bet you have! I was there a weeks with DS. Planning on going there again but my scan is somewhere else next week.

MurderOfGoths · 17/09/2013 18:50

I got to know all the staff on the Victoria ward last time, I was in almost non-stop for the last 3 months. They were absolutely wonderful and made a hellish time of my life much easier on me.

Where are you next week? Sorry, I'm nosy, you don't have to say.. just excited to know you are somewhere nearby

jenpatnim · 17/09/2013 19:14

Hey all, nothing to report here. Feeling less wretched today which is good, have managed some food and a craving for orange fanta. All the scans are exciting, my 20 week one is on 30th, so I am very much looking forward to that!

I am at Hemel next week. They either give you Hemel or Watford for your first scan.

Jen - glad you are feeling a bit better. I up chucked massively this afternoon and gutted as it was red grape juice which was the one drink I thought was safe!

Champagne - I didn't have a good experience at the birthing centre as they made a pretty upsetting error but the consultant lead unit was fantastic and I still want to hug the doctor that delivered DS.

ChocChaffinch · 17/09/2013 20:54

I miss juice. It's def. a ''dangerous'' drink - tried a slurp of pineapple today = 1 solid hour of nausea

MurderOfGoths · 17/09/2013 21:07

Watford were really good for me, DS ended up born by ventouse and they were absolute stars. Had one dodgy midwife in the night before giving birth, but the majority of staff were fantastic.

Totes Ah, wish I was in Hemel tomorrow, wouldn't have to worry about rush hour traffic. Plus Hemel is less of a trek from the car park!

Maybe after we've all given birth, those of us going to Watford should meet up?

Totesamazeballs · 17/09/2013 21:43

Ugh, rush hour traffic around Watford. i travelled in labour on a Friday morning at 8 am and it was surprisingly ok. Good luck for the scan.

DS was forceps in the end but they were fantastic and knew I didn't want a c section so gave me a chance. If you go to the birthing centre Champagne just make sure that if they give you a student or newly qualified midwife, they get a senior midwife to check you. That was our mistake. I was the only person giving birth in the centre and the newly qualified midwife kept telling me I was more and more dilated and then ready to push after 12 hours when I was in fact 2 cm. she had checked me every 4 hours and consistently got it wrong. The senior midwife had left her to it even though she had no other ladies labouring at the time.

Good idea about meeting up. How many weeks are you? I am 11 today. I am scared they will find the baby died in the last few weeks! DH is bringing me the Doppler at the weekend to try and find the heartbeat. I will really freak out if I can't. Two failed attempts already. And I know what they say about sickness being a good sign but I was sick with my MMC so it means nowt to me.

Sending everyone nausea free vibes

MurderOfGoths · 17/09/2013 21:46

Eek, I was worried I was going to go into labour while there was a Watford game on Confused

I'm 12, hopefully, unless they tell me I'm wrong tomorrow. So entirely possible we'll end up in Watford at the same time.

Oh darling, I will keep everything crossed for you. We bought a doppler last time, it was quite relaxing. Got to try and get it back from the friend we lent it to now.

Sally8655 · 17/09/2013 21:55

Evening all

Fee- scan was fine. It's a huge relief after everything I've had to go through.

I'm back to feeling like crap and the excitement has worn off. I'm puking, majorly constipated and every kick from the baby really hurts. It's like he's using my bits down below as a punch bag and its really sore.
Been drinking my movicol all day as the constipation is awful and making me dizzy. I've even tried the gross manual work. Scared of causing some major damage as its so painful.
Dreading husband leaving on Friday and can't stop crying.
I feel very sorry for myself right now.

Sorry to just come on and vent again. It always helps to type my frustrations xxx

Sally8655 · 17/09/2013 21:57

Totes, just read your post and thinking of you xx

MurderOfGoths · 17/09/2013 22:03

sally I'm so sorry to hear you are still struggling, you are allowed to feel sorry for yourself. HG is shit. No one here will tell you off for it, so you vent away and know we all totally get it.

Totes - try not to panic if you can't find anything with the doppler. You'll have to wait until you get a scan before you know anything anyway. My GP said at my 16 week appt that he wouldn't use the doppler as the HB was hard to find and it would cause more alarm than good if he couldn't find it, so it must be really hard to find at 11 weeks. I am crossing my fingers for you that it is all going ok in there.

Sally, I am sure the thought of DH leaving is terrifying. I hope you have people around you that can check on you and help out.

LucindaE · 18/09/2013 09:05

MOG and Choc How did things go?
Lot's of people from the Herts area, then.
Totes It must be very nerve racking. I have heard how hard that heartbeat is to find. Aagh! Regarding that dangerous error from that student midwife. That is really negligent.
Sally Sorry you are feeling so bad. Hugs. I hope the novical works.
Patio and EveryoneHow are things?
Meerka I hope those meds arrive!
Champagne Did you say jelly babies? This virus is nasty, it is bad enough without Hyperemesis and seems to make people nauseated anyway, so with it.
Jen Fanta sounds an excellent idea. I remember having that.
Feekerry I can't read my handwriting on my bit under your name - and I think this has happened before!
Apologies to anyone overlooked.
Lucinda

great! lovely to see baby :-) heart beating away, arms, legs, flipping and wiggling around and they've moved me on 2 days, so now 12+1 and dd is 1st April.

more annoying is my consultant wants to wean me off ondansatron, by 20 wks he says I won't need it Hmm I told him I had it the whole pg last time, he looked shocked.

MurderOfGoths · 18/09/2013 11:30

Took us 2 hours to get to the hospital, so got there late, luckily they managed to squeeze us in. Am 12+3, so due date of 30th March. Loved the scan, very active little thing, arms and legs waving about, even briefly got to see the sole of it's foot.

Oh for the local girls, Watford/Hemel are apparently able to tell the gender now. They couldn't when I was pregnant last time, but it seems they will this time at the 20 week scan.

Meerka · 18/09/2013 12:31

awww lovely news, both of you :)

gl with the consultant Choc.
