Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

I don't have a number for my midwife, that was the antenatal assessment unit I called. That number lucinda gave says there's no-one to take my call but I did get a doctor call me back earlier and ask me to call him this evening. This is ridiculous Hmm

Meerka · 11/09/2013 16:01

ye it is! those docs are good, and yes they always seem to work on a call back system.

They also have a list of HG - competent doctors I think.

best of luck !!!

Meerka · 11/09/2013 16:03

peanut, just a thought, might be an idea make a list of your symptoms and write em down so you can tell the doctor and it doesnt get driven out of your head by stress.

jenpatnim · 11/09/2013 16:22

Peanut, the ketones are a side effect of not eating. You should just present yourself at maternity admissions and make them examine you. Once they do a urinalysis, they're in charge.

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 16:29

I've just spoken to a doctor from PSS, what a star he was! I'm on a strict glass of water an hour diet and will re-test in the morning. If it's still bad I'll go to a&e as they can't exactly turn me away. I just need some peace of mind now. Sorry for being so stressy, I just hate putting myself out there to be told yet again there's nothing wrong.

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 16:30

Don't apologise! We all know better than most what you are going through xxx

jenpatnim · 11/09/2013 16:35

Water is good for hydration but will not bring down the ketones, you need food for that. Even some plain biscuits or orange cordial would do.

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 16:35

On the positive OH bought me toffee popcorn, pancakes, maple syrup, pizza, wotsits. Pizza might be a bit heavy but I've been craving those pancakes for days! Grin

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 16:36

Will popcorn do jen? Wink

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 16:36

Aww bless him :) That's good. I was told sugary drinks are one of the best things to drink.

jenpatnim · 11/09/2013 16:52

popcorn, yes! Eat away at it! Hahahaha. Just get some sugar into you, please!

I got my ketones down from 3+ to nothing on 4 custard creams and 2 rounds of toast, so you can do it!

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 17:04

I'm on it! Maybe I should just drink the bottle of syrup....? Wink

jenpatnim · 11/09/2013 17:10

eww lol

LucindaE · 11/09/2013 17:34

Aagh, Peanuts I do hope you get those ketones down and am so glad you got such good advice from eveyone on here and from the PSS doctor. I am horrified for you, MOG and others at how casual some GP's seem to be about awful levels of vomiting when the women is desperate Shock.
Jen Excellent idea about ice pack. My chiropractioner (when I could afford one) used to recommend treatment with alternate ice packs and heat treatment, but with me it was the back of the head. Sorry about your awful headaches, and having to work.
Meerka I am so sorry that Hyperemesis is encroaching - I do hope your meds are on their way. Hugs.
RNJ It took me some time to work that one out about sitting on the loo with head in bucket, I must have been thicker than usual, lol!
Totes Poor you, I hope it was in a tidy place, one of the dismal things is cleaning up after one hasn't made the loo/sink/bucket. It was grotesquely funny that I projectile vomited, hitting the wardrobe as I scrambled out of bed after foolishly eating a veggie pasta and I thought I had cleared it up but OH was puzzled about the flecks of red higher up (tomato) and asked what they were...
Choc It's nice you could enjoy that awful hospital food for a while when admitted!
Hope Everybody is coping. I'll put that PSS number at the top of the next thread.

It's a joke isn't it LucindaE? Though those comments were just the tip of the iceberg with that particular gp. She also said that I was a "stressy" person and so of course I'd be making myself worse. Bearing in mind I have long term depression and at the time was watching my mum die of cancer, that was horrific. She then suggested that I should have aborted and that DS would be taken off me anyway. Hmm She's still working.

I am however at a totally different surgery now, with an absolutely amazing gp, who I adore.

Totesamazeballs · 11/09/2013 17:56

Jeez MOG!

Get those pancakes down you Peanut!

Lucinda...lol!! Fortunately I was in the bathroom at the time. It's amazing how sudden it can be! Hope I dont have repeat performance at my in laws next week!

It's funny, in my first pregnancy my doc once tested me for dehydration at the very start of my sick ess (week 5) but even though he saw me nearly every week to keep signing me off work, he never tested again or told me about ketones and I did so so much vomiting...everything came back up, much worse than this time. I didn't know about any of it either so we were both none the wiser.

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 18:00

MOG - that is awful! I hope you complained? I suffer from depression too which certainly doesn't help you get taken seriously.

Lucinda - thank you, it's just so frustrating!

Time for my next glass, I suspect I'll be up half the night needing the loo!

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 18:01

Oh yes, got a non-apology, basically insinuating I'd imagined it (after all, i am unstable Hmm)

So we changed surgeries and didn't look back.

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 18:21

My surgery is awful, we're moving house soon so keep thinking I'll just put up with it until then. I'm surprised they allow some people to become doctors!

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 18:22

It's worrying isn't it? Glad you'll be able to get away from yours too.

feekerry · 11/09/2013 18:31

sally i second pasta with a plain sauce or a basic soup. or a baked potato with beans. weirdly i can only eat spaghetti tho as pasta seems to 'chunky' lol.
or... its up to you but how about starting meds again?? i have reduced mine successfully this week but no way ready to give up!!

peanut i would walk in to maternity assessment unit tomorrow if you can. 3+ ketones is hospital admission all day long in my area.

Totesamazeballs · 11/09/2013 19:32

Ok, so Doppler arrived today and I can't find a heartbeat. Sad

It does say a full bladder is optimum but obv not an option! I am about 10 weeks or maybe just under. Too early? Incompetence? Should I worry?

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 19:40

Totes - it is probably too early, midwives won't even look for it until around 16 weeks. But at your stage baby will be underneath the pubic bone so get right down there, it'll also be quieter for that reason. Hope you find it but don't worry if not! It's super common not to find it until later Smile

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 19:58

Way too early Totes, don't worry.

Misty9 · 11/09/2013 20:09

Hi all,

totes we're the same stage I think and it's probably too early for a home Doppler so try not to worry. I've got one (somewhere) and I think it was at least 11 weeks last time.

I disappeared for a bit because I wished hoped prayed the worst had passed and stopped my meds on Sunday so I could enjoy ds's 2nd bday party while feeling vaguely with it (cyclizine seriously knocks me out). Apart from the onset of evening heartburn and associated nausea I've been ok. Until yesterday. Blurgh. Back on meds today :( after running for the bathroom this morning. Still no vomiting but feel so weak dizzy and sick.

Had booking in appt today (9+3) and mw just said she hopes it'll pass soon for me helpful

Is anyone else wheat intolerant? Really struggling to find foods I can eat little and often which are easy to prepare. Starting to live off porridge it seems!

Hope all have a good night, as much as possible.
