Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Thanks guys. I have hired it for a month so will put it away for a while!

Misty - polenta...just add water and mix with whatever is available. Microwaveable rice packs are handy too!

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 20:32

Vimto sweets are amazing! They are somehow settling my stomach after a lot of water and then a lot of sick, bleurgh.

Sally8655 · 11/09/2013 21:23

Totes it's still early. I found mine at 10 weeks but with a full bladder and very faint. It was better a couple of weeks later.

Fee, I'm gona try the spaghetti tomorrow, managed a bacon sandwich this evening. It was ok while eating it but feel awful now. I'm hoping to stay off the meds until its really bad again, they may be more effective if I'm not taking them everyday was my thought. Also I think ill need them more when hubby is away.

Hope you all manage a good nights sleep, without rising to puke xxx

SlinkyB · 11/09/2013 22:11

Hello all, wow this thread is moving quickly.

peanut hope some water stays down and your keytones have improved in the morning. If not, like the others say, get yourself to hospital please.

Just a quick one from me; had our mid-pregnancy scan yesterday and we have a very healthy little boy growing! (seems we're all having/had boys on this thread?!). Now to find a name both dh and I adore...not easy! We're not telling anyone in rl the gender, as I can't be doing with any comments about how disappointing it must be not to have a girl Hmm

Sally I've finally put a bump pic on your profile for you to see, as we're about the same number of weeks.

Sally8655 · 11/09/2013 23:06

Slinky your bump is a good size too, do you find you have to support it when you walk? My feels so heavy it's really uncomfortable and can feel muscles stretching under the weight.
Congrats on healthy scan and finding out gender. we hopefully find out in Monday but just hoping for a healthy baby too xxx

SlinkyB · 12/09/2013 06:59

I'm not struggling with the weight yet Sally, but I'm, er, "well built" ! 5ft 7" like you, but have broad shoulders and hips. Maybe because it's my 2nd pg the muscles have been stretched before too? I reckon you prob should get a support belt if you're suffering with your back.

jenpatnim · 12/09/2013 07:44

Hey guys, just checking in before I head to work. Thinking about trying to go med-free at the weekend, to see what happens. Daren't try it whilst going into school. I still get pretty queasy but am eating 3 meals a day (smallish) and haven't been sick in nearly a week.

My bump is pathetic next to you guys! I am 18 weeks tomorrow and just have a hint of a belly! But I reckon the next few weeks will change that. I do want to look pregnant rather than fat ha.

Morning all :) jacket potato was my first meal I could eat too, very salty with just a little butter. I couldn't and still often can't stomach tomato based sauces or anything saucy really.

ChocChaffinch · 12/09/2013 10:03

hope you're keeping stuff down, peanut Smile
poo going ok today - I've been twice Grin

pancakes sound good - I bought maple syrup the other day. Mmm I do love a pancake.

the lactulose has been making me feel really sick, unless I follow it with a snickers. My poor teeth. I'm sucking sweets a lot too - those mentos are nice, plus old fashioned rhubarb and custards.

I'm liking steak pie, pizza and pasta for tea, like plain tomato sauce but not too much. Had a bacon muffin in costa the other day, it was lush. Miss bacon as can't bear the cooking smell of it.

ChocChaffinch · 12/09/2013 10:05

cannot stomach bread or beans at all. Sad
bread can make me vomit even 1 hour after an ondansetron, it has an evil power about it. Blee.

Miss beans, as they are cheap and v healthy. Frustrating that in the main most of the stuff I fancy is utterly unhealthy shit.

ChocChaffinch · 12/09/2013 10:07

Jamie Oliver's American pancake recipe is fantastic if you can bear cooking

tasty little pancakes

peanut86 · 12/09/2013 10:19

Thanks choc although I haven't tried yet today, feeling queasy and got an awful headache so still trying to get out of bed! OH is on his way home so soon I'll have all sorts forced into me to avoid hospital lol. Will try eat my pancakes a little later, yum!

peanut86 · 12/09/2013 10:34

I just tested again and I'm back to neutral Smile thank goodness, really didn't fancy making a fuss! Amazing how quickly it can be solved!

ChocChaffinch · 12/09/2013 10:47

ah good news peanut; keep those fluids going

PatioDweller · 12/09/2013 11:38

Hi ladies, can I join you? I'm am newly pregnant with my 3rd very unplanned baby and I suffered HG with both my others. I was very naive first time around and my GP was rubbish so ended up with DH calling an ambulance at 2am one night as I was so dehydrated, I was hallucinating. Second time around I took cyclizine+B6 then maxalon. The cyclizine helped reduce the vomiting but not the nausea. The maxalon was horrible and seemed to have a nasty affect on me. I'm lucky in that it usually goes by 20wks u like some of you poor ladies but its still horrid as is dreading a pregnancy because you know what's coming.
Anyway, that's my little history. Hope you are all finding ways to cope and maybe I can learn some new strategies for you all. Smile

PatioDweller · 12/09/2013 11:38

from you all.

ChocChaffinch · 12/09/2013 11:44

congratulations patiodweller
Im pg with my 3rd too, had normal MS with my 1st, HG with my 2nd it's kind of awful knowing what's coming!
I had it right up to the end as well. Another 6 months to go...

but imagine how good it'll be to be able to eat anything and any time. Dreamy!

11+0

peanut86 · 12/09/2013 11:44

Hi patio, you're very brave, this is definitely a one time only deal for me Wink

Fingers crossed its a little easier for you this time!

PatioDweller · 12/09/2013 11:59

Thank you both. Although I had HG with both, it was slightly different in that with my 1st (DS) I had this terrible vertigo type of thing as well as the sickness which literally meant I could barely move until about wk19. With my DD, I could function slightly better (though not work) but vomited until I felt my insides were coming up and my throat was in a mess with all the acid.

I always find it amazing that HG is rarely mentioned in any pregnancy books yet they often list all these one in a million rare conditions. I had never heard of it before I fell pg so now I'm on a mission for people to understand, esp GPs. Really hope things have improved since I was told I wasn't ill, just pregnant and that if I thought about it carefully I wouldn't be sick. Hmm I have moved since my last pregnancy so I'm really hoping my new GP is on the ball. I've heard great things about Zofran. But heard it wasn't easy to get a script for. I will try and read back through the thread to hopefully get to know you all a little better. Thanks for the welcome. It's just nice to be in contact with people who totally understand. Smile

peanut86 · 12/09/2013 13:39

Patio - I've been told I'm just pregnant, it's normal and I just need to get on with it. GP's don't seem to think it could be anything other than someone being dramatic about MS. I'm 17 weeks in, I can only hope it eases soon! Smile

peanut86 · 12/09/2013 13:41

Being dragged into town on the bus by OH. Feel I have to go because he's had such a rotten time lately but this won't end well Hmm

I just hope I don't wee myself in public! Throwing up is one thing but the accompanied weeing...
