Hyperemesis Support

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Totesamazeballs · 11/09/2013 12:41

Hi all!
Sally - evenings are bad for me too. I have got to a better stage now where I find my sickness levels are now intrinsically linked to how much rest I get. Yesterday was bad because I overdid it on Monday. Today is better as a result of resting yesterday. I even took DS to the swings this morning although felt very ropey afterwards.

Safe dinner foods....Pasta with a plain tomato sauce?

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 13:25

I tend to get a little better at night, it's afternoons that hit me worse. No ketostix in asda pharmacy, will try boots on the way home but it's just a little one.

Had a bit of a wobbly and now slumped in Asda cafe with a water. Joys of pregnancy!

Totesamazeballs · 11/09/2013 14:11

Hope you can find some stix Peanut and don't have to spend too long in Asda's cafe.

I am paying for my good morning. Just projectiled ...eugh...

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 14:39

Is there no way to get a picture on here? I did the ketostix test and it's at 3 or 4, sort of in between the colours. That's not good, right? I'm actually surprised as I'm certainly not having the worst day!

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 14:40

peanut Between 3 and 4 means you'd be best getting yourself to a hospital. Don't know if you can self refer, might be worth calling your midwife or gp.

totes Oh darling, try and take it easy from now on.

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 14:44

Oh I hate this, I really don't want to go Hmm I have too much to do. What does it actually mean though? Dehydration? I don't really understand it..

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 14:46

You will feel better after being rehydrated though, promise. It's not that bad being on the drip, and the enforced bed rest helps too (though it's dull as hell).

ChocChaffinch · 11/09/2013 14:57

peanut have you rung your gp/hosp?
dehydration means you have not enough fluid in your body and you need help;

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 14:57

Ok, I'm compromising. I'm going to take hydration salts tonight and try eat and drink lots. If it's still bad tomorrow then I'll ring them. I really need to get orders packed today/tonight and OH isn't here so I just need to hold off a day.

Meerka · 11/09/2013 14:57

peanuts yes it means you are seriously dehydrated. that can be a threat to yourself or more likely the baby :/

Do please at least ring for advice.

If you have any chance at all, rest as much as you can and ask for help if you have to. Don't wait/ struggle on from pride. This is a disease that can be dangerous for the baby and you. Rest helps a bit.

totes, sorry to hear about the vomitting.

afraid my own lurking HG is rapidly developing into the full scale version. God, never again. never, ever again.

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 14:58

Promise us that if your ketones are still there tomorrow you'll go to hospital? Honestly, it's not something you can ignore.

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 15:12

How weird is this btw, I'm sat here typing and suddenly think, "oh best not move my arm, it'll knock the canula", and it feels like there's a canula in my arm. Obviously there isn't, and the bruises from the last one have already faded. I've got a phantom canula!

ChocChaffinch · 11/09/2013 15:14

my cannula fell out of my arm. I flooded drip Grin someti es nursing is more about plumbing than nursing

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 15:14

I'm really stressing :( I'm upset I've let it go on for so long because the GP made me feel stupid! I'm packing my orders now for OH to take to post office tomorrow and will phone them after then

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 15:17

Oh darling, it will get better, chances are a couple of bags of fluid and you'll be feeling miles better. And at least the hospital will make sure you get the anti emetics you need.

ChocChaffinch · 11/09/2013 15:18

ignore GP, they were obviously a twat. they'll get a lovely letter from the hospital informing them you were actually really ill and not imagining it Smile
don't stress - is there anyone can help you?
you'll get wicked drugs in hosp - ask for ondansatron, that'll get them in a spin Grin

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 15:24

No tonight is OH's night with his kids (from previous partner) so I'm on my own. I'm so angry for being ignored all this time. I've been thinking I'm so pathetic for not coping like everyone else can because it's "normal". If I'm so dehydrated now when I've had an ok couple days how bad was it when I was really sick and asking for help? No wonder I've had falls and felt dizzy and had awful migraines. Ok, definitely need to stop ranting...

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 15:27

With my first pregnancy my gp refused to send me to hospital, claiming she'd been really sick in her pregnancy and worked through it, by the time I got to hospital I was +4 and a complete mess, I'd had to wait until 16 weeks to see my midwife despite daily visits to my doctor begging for help. Should have seen how angry the consultant got about it taking so long for me to be referred!

I felt the same as you, I'd been blaming myself, but it's absolutely not the case. At least now you can check your ketones yourself, is there anyone who can help you get to the hospital today?

Meerka · 11/09/2013 15:32

jeeze, MoG :o god, some doctors :/

peanuts, try not to blame yourself hugs

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 15:33

Thank you MOD, I spoke to GP about it a few times at around 13 weeks, now 17 weeks. I guess it could be worse! No, will probably need to get a taxi.

Meerka · 11/09/2013 15:36

gah wrong smily, I meant I was shocked. Shock

Good luck, peanut, let us know how it goes. If they check you out and all is ok, then no harm done, and if they decide to take action, well, good. it really sounds like you need meds.

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 15:40

I just called the hospital and was told its nothing to worry about and just to drink plenty of water. Apparently as long as I have "good days" I'm fine? They only worry if I can keep absolutely nothing down.

peanut86 · 11/09/2013 15:47

I'm beyond confused, I wish someone would just check me. She said "as long as you feel ok in yourself, aren't dizzy, etc" so told her I have been dizzy and feeling awful and still told its normal! I don't understand!

MurderOfGoths · 11/09/2013 15:51

That's bollocks. Do you have number for your midwife? Or is there a gynae day unit you can go to?

Meerka · 11/09/2013 15:52

Peanut, ring the number Lucinda gives 024 7638 2020. Or ring the London hyperemisis clinic - Royal London Hospital - or there's one in Nottingham I believe. Tell them you've been falling and have migranes and are dizzy.

From what you've said you do need help.
