Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello all,

I am 40+3 and am getting increasingly frustrated.

I've had no signs at all that labour is close.

I feel like this baby is never going to arrive!

I have a sweep booked for Thursday but am praying I don't get to that appointment!

Rant over..... Hmm

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/08/2013 16:49

Lola you don't have to have a sweep if you don't want to, all care and procedures are optional and they have to listen to you if you say no. Sweeps aren't pleasant, I accept that they can be a good way to start things off when you are very overdue and fed up, but I don't see why they are routinely offered these days. I was offered one today, for Wednesday which is my edd. I said no and she the midwife did a double take. Is it so wrong to want to do things naturally? Confused

lola1980 · 11/08/2013 16:58

They offered it to you when you're not even overdue? Mine would never do that. I haven't even been examined, again they do nothing until 41wks. Which is good I suppose, the least intervention the better. I'm that fed up though that I'll take the sweep. Can't do any harm. It's the medically induced bit I'm not keen on, really hope it doesn't come to that.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/08/2013 18:07

Well a sweep and induction are definitely two different things, just because you have a sweep doesn't mean you have to agree to induction. And maybe the sweep will work for you (make sure you ask for gas n air if it isn't offered and you feel you need it) As long as it's your decision that's all that matters. I really don't like all this bossing about hospitals do, as if we have no choice in the matter, when we always have a choice. Good luck with it! Smile

Soontobemama · 11/08/2013 18:17

Congratulations airfryer!

Lola looks like we are in similar positions. I have to decide if I want a sweep and if so call back tomorrow to make an appt. they did offer to send someone to my home to do it but that would probably unnerve me even more.

The MW told me to go home and have sex. Hmmm.

lola1980 · 11/08/2013 19:25

Thanks James Smile
Soontobemama my midwife also told me to have sex! I really can't be bothered but have been doing it anyway, she said it's just as effective to get things moving once your cervix is ready. I know loads of people who swear it worked for them. And I'd rather have sex than a midwife's finger up there! Wink

lola1980 · 11/08/2013 19:27

Oh and I agreed to my midwife coming to my house to do the sweep, I think it will keep me more relaxed.

MsFiremanSam · 11/08/2013 19:31

Lola and Soontobe, same here - 40+4 and sweep booked for Thursday, really not sure about it but desperate to avoid induction. Although frankly sex is not looking that appealing either!!

Congratulations Air!

Mayanbob · 11/08/2013 19:56

Hello! 38+4 here and not quite ready to have a baby yet, but certainly ready to kill the next person in RL who asks if I've a) had it yet or b) bets me that I've had enough now or c) that i'll be glad to get my body back may be tired and hormonal

So thought I'd come and dip my toe in. Congratulations air - it's been inspiring and a comfort to read about others stories of is this? Isn't it?

Looking forward to reading a few more it ises before it's my turn.

Snuppeline · 11/08/2013 20:18

Oh my goodness Zing, that thread was magic!!! I pooed during first labour too sadly and expect to do it again. It cheered me up no end reading about other people's epic experiences though. Classic! Really needed that after getting upset hearing my friend was in labour. She's overdue and I'm not but I still had a hormonal and toddler-like reacti
Still no excitement my end. Drinking raspberry leaf tea, bouncing on birthing ball and gobbling pineapple to no avail.

cakebaby · 11/08/2013 22:02

Loved the thread zing, thank you! Dear god I hope I don't poo.

TMI KLAXON I've had a terrible tum for days now and I pity anyone who gets to witness that. No appetite at all, poor baby must have a rumbly tummy!

Bleugh.... 38+1

Gerty1002 · 11/08/2013 22:47

TMI but DP and I DTD about two hours ago and I've been having waves of cramps/backache ever since... trying not to get excited. Paracetamol hasn't done much, going to try to sleep through it but if they get any stronger I may have to start timing! No plug or waters loss as yet. Will surely amount to nothing but pretty uncomfortable for the time being!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 12/08/2013 00:54

Wooo, exciting Gerty! How are you doing now, if you're still awake?

Gerty1002 · 12/08/2013 01:03

I'm ok, they are coming every 6-7 minutes now but not unbearably painful - hoping it's not a false alarm. Just letting DP sleep at the minute just in case! Lots of movement from baby, really low down. Still no loss of plug or anything.

Gerty1002 · 12/08/2013 06:42

Well the contractions were 6 mins apart, but i felt they weren't severe enough to call delivery suite. They started to get slightly less painful around 4:30pm, so I managed to fall asleep. Just woke up: no baby, no contractions.

Infuriating.

Mayanbob · 12/08/2013 07:34

Awww Gerty- I just woke up and was getting excited, only to feel your disappointment. Still - interesting to hear that DTD did something Smile good luck for today!

parttimer79 · 12/08/2013 08:22

I'm 40+2 now and after some pretty strong contractions over night nada... Sweep booked for weds so hopefully my cervix will be soft/open enough for that.
Nb. Sweeps are done to start "natural" labour please don't confuse them with medical induction. The misuse of terminology and judginess around "natural" is really starting to get on my oversized, pregnant tits!

MsFiremanSam · 12/08/2013 08:55

40+5 - agh!
Up at 4 with quite strong pains, pressure etc. Got excited - then zilch. Think brought on by DTD - does that mean I have to do it again, it was really tricky! (Tmi!)

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 12/08/2013 09:03

Poor you Gerty, you must feel very frustrated, but sometimes lots of latent labour can mean that when it does kick off properly it's nice and quick and effective. All those contractions are rarely for nothing, you may be slightly dilated or effaced. Hang in there! Hope you get some rest today. Thanks

lola1980 · 12/08/2013 09:04

Ha Fireman! Same thing happened to me yesterday, I was having bad cramps all day afterwards but they went away again. DP says he's happy to 'help' anytime I like, trouble is, it's the last thing I feel like doing and I can't believe he wants to either given the size/state of me!

Gerty1002 · 12/08/2013 09:44

Well it seems DTD is at least doing something for us all! I will defo be trying it again closer to due date, if I get that far.

Picking up our new car this afternoon and have pre-booked cinema tickets for this evening so it would be pretty inconvenient for my waters to break today... perhaps that means they will haha :).

Gonnabmummy · 12/08/2013 10:55

I've been dying to join this thread for ages I know feel I'm allowed haha. 16 days til due date but think ill pass it very comfortable atm :)

LouiseD29 · 12/08/2013 14:56

Welcome Gonnabmummy. Hope you don't have to wait too long.

40+2 here - I realise that's not too far gone, but goddam, I am bored of feeling like an elephant stuck at home!

Gonnabmummy · 12/08/2013 15:32

Thanks louise although I can't wait to meet him I would be secretly happy a couple days over so he's an early sept baby like me Grin

MsFiremanSam · 12/08/2013 16:03

Lola, I know what you mean! Ironically it was on a par with the other unsexiest DTD ever, when baby was conceived! (Fertility monitor, military precision timing!!)
