Many congratulations French!

I'm now 40+3 and losing the plot. Had loads of tightenings, cramps etc but nothing else. Cannot face the thought of going into next week. No sweep until Thursday. Everything hurts, can barely walk, totally fed up! Making DH take me out for lunch to appease my misery Smile

Cass168 · 10/08/2013 13:47

Congratulations frenchboy!
I am now 40+10, had sweep on Tues which was really painful, lost plug on Thurs so got all excited that things were finally happening, and now.... nothing. Being induced on Monday so the end is finally in sight!
DH is making a curry tonight and I'm actually hoping I don't go tomorrow as the last thing I want is curry sweats while in labour Smile

parttimer79 · 10/08/2013 13:56

Fireman I'm 40 weeks today and team grumpy! Going to try a walk and some raspberry tea later and persuade DP to dtd (desperate times, desperate measures as it is the last thing I feel like doing!)

RatherUninspired · 10/08/2013 14:25

I am 40 + 6 today, booked in for sweep on Tuesday. I am grummmmmmpy and fed up with being pregnant now. I have had hardly any signs, a couple of times I have felt what is like opening and closing 'down below' and my bump aches. Really think I am going to end up going full whack induced at this rate. Felt something might be happening last night (not sure why now) woke up this morning and those feelings have gone. After my last accupuncture appointment I got really random leg stiffening/ache in my right upper leg. I am not sure if I just slept on it funny though or walked too much as its a bit random for labour pains isn't it?

I seriously cannot stop eating sweets as well.. I think out of sheer frustration!

Whats annoying me too is that I know that every day this pregnancy goes on is oneless I will have to spend with the precious one when I return to work next year :( Feel a bit responsible for that though as I chose to go off on early Maternity Leave (was really hating work/stressful commute and just generally finding it really hard) so I feel a bit to blame for that eeeek come on baby!

Lots of love to other overdue mums and expectant mums out there keep soldiering through

RatherUninspired · 10/08/2013 14:27

o and also - does anyone know what they mean when a midwife says the baby is 'free'? At my last midwife appointment she mentioned the head was 3/5 engaged but then I overheard her talking to this other midwife and writing in the book about the baby being 'free' which made me think maybe he is not engaged after all?! confused.com

parttimer79 · 10/08/2013 15:25

Rather, you sound like me at the moment.
Does it say in your green notes about whether baby is engaged? Mine went from free to 3/5 to eng. still not appeared though!!

HJBeans · 10/08/2013 18:12

Hiya. Belated birth announcement here : baby boy HJB born Tuesday afternoon by emergency section after stalled labour didn't respond to induction. He's well and I'm recovering. Good luck to all those still waiting. Xx

Just a cautionary note to those of you still waiting : don't be in too much of a hurry to be induced. I was so keen to be induced, but now I'm unsure whether I'd have had a better labour had I just waited it out.

Induction for me meant increasingly painful contractions every three minutes for about 15 hours after gel pessary inserted. Pain relief available was only Paracetemol and codeine, so I'd been contracting intensely for 15 hours before I even got to 4cm dilated. So before I even got to the delivery suite, I was exhausted. No idea why both my epidurals failed to take effect, but by the time my waters were forcibly broken I was insensible with pain screaming and refusing to be examined. I don't remember how I ended up in theatre, but I do remember screaming for a c section and just wanting the baby cut out. At one point I was insensible and just screaming 'please' repeatedly. They couldn't even get me to move in theatre. I had to be lifted and a spinal block given on my side. Took about 30 mins post birth for me to get back with it.

It's not all bad. Lovely baby here now, and he's so well behaved. But I am suffering from CS and probably have extreme birth trauma.

Am sure lots of people have much better induced births than mine, but I couldn't cope with the intense contractors and just now wondering whether I should have just waited it out for another week

RatherUninspired · 10/08/2013 23:35

will my check my notes re- head - don't know why I have not already doh!

LouiseD29 · 11/08/2013 04:06

Crikey frenchboy, that sounds awful. I'm so sorry you had such a tough time of it and so pleased that baby frenchboy is ok. Hope you have some support in these early weeks so you can properly give yourself some recovery time.

Soontobemama · 11/08/2013 04:12

I am 40+5 today and still nothing happening.
I had 4 days of stomach cramps and back ache that now seem to be tailing off. I spent most of yesterday in tears.

I am so fed up of this! I'm starting to get worried that I'm not going to be able to avoid having a sweep despite the fact that I can't see that they actually work for many people. I really wanted to avoid interventions and especially induction but am increasingly beginning to panic that I am headed down that road. I really hate that there's nothing I can do :(

frenchboy · 11/08/2013 04:28

Soontobemama - try not to worry. Maybe you just need a longer latent labour. Easy enough to say, but relax as much as you can. I have the cutest munchkin lying here on my chest, but last week I was convinced I would be pregnant forever. Wish I could take round tea and cupcakes for all the anxious overdue women. People have no idea how stressful those last few days are. Thanks

Cass168 · 11/08/2013 04:47

Urgh, awake with contractions half the night (now 4am). Really hoping this is it and it doesn't all peter out.... Yawn...

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/08/2013 07:58

Soontobemama you don't have to go down the sweep and/or induction route, at least not yet! I feel your pain, I went to 40+5 with my first and 40+11 last time which meant I had at least three weeks of "still here then?" and "not long to go" and the constant texts and calls to ask if there was any signs of labour by mil which sent me demented.

The hospital started to nag about induction from roughly 41 weeks. I refused, especially as the dating scan at 12 weeks had put my edd forward by a week (I knew when I'd conceived as we were using ovulation sticks) and by 40+10 they were getting really arsey with me for not meekly complying. I did agree to a sweep which was painful and I don't really think that it did anything.

Went into labour 40+11 naturally five minutes after dtd with my partner, no interventions needed. Lots of walking and nipple stimulation strengthened and established the contractions. No amount of curry or pineapple helped either time. She was very petite, 7lb, still had lanugo all over her. Definitely not an overdue baby.

In some places in the world you aren't even considered overdue til 42 weeks and their intervention rates are much lower than us.

This time around I've told everyone I will go overdue. I'm meant to be having a homebirth which adds a little pressure as I know they'll be less inclined for me to have one if I get too overdue, and I had to bloody fight for it as it is.

Hang in there, they can do expectant management to check daily/every other day how you, baby and placenta are doing. It's much easier for them to just induce you, so they probably won't offer to do this for you. But if you have no other health problems and good fetal movement then go for it, sod their arbitrary rules and estimated dates.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 11/08/2013 08:03

In other news I've woken up with s cold sore. I'm gutted, if I do go into labour in the next week or so I won't be able to kiss my new baby. 39+4 Sad

RatherUninspired · 11/08/2013 09:39

41 weeks today, still no baby. I am ok with a sweep to be honest, I live in a large city and can't say it's been easy to get 'care' and answers so a little bit of attention, even if a bit painful would be nice. My DR is appointment at the hospital is on Tuesday so will be 41 +2 so will see what the DR has to say. I was also quite up for going into the birthing centre we have at the hospital (looks amazing, birthing pool, ensuite etc) but after reading about back to back births (which mine might be) I am not so keen plus after a certain amount of induction you have to stay on labour ward anyway.

I like the idea of next time lying about my due date. I try to explain to people that in my family it is V COMMON for babies to have to be induced/go beyond 40 weeks (I think between my mum and sisters 5 births this has happened 4 times) but either people are not listening to me or think they no better about when the baby is going to appear.

Even my midwife changed her tune about the baby appearing late. She said I was being negative when I told her about not expecting baby till post 40 weeks and said oo i think it will happen before and now all of a sudden I go past 40 weeks and she is all like 'yeh i don't think the baby is going to come'... errrrr buh boom! I am just like grrr I am not being negative please don't patronise me its called genetics and being logical/rational I never moaned about it was just stating the facts (ok I am moaning about it now though!)

How is everyone doing? Wishing you all a safe delivery

lola1980 · 11/08/2013 10:40

Soontobemama - I am 40+4 and also worrying. I have been in some kind of latent labour for two weeks... Midwife said she didn't think it would be long yet here I am still. Every night I have strong contractions and they always fizzle out, I've got constant backache and period type pains. Sweep booked on Thursday which is my birthday Sad I asked her if it was really necessary as I also heard they are not effective, but she said two thirds of women go into labour afterwards if they're over 41wks. So maybe we can still avoid induction... I thought I wouldn't care but as it's getting closer, I don't want it :(

ExtremeCouponQueen · 11/08/2013 10:45

39 weeks, so officially one week to go. Feel very large...

Mummyin2012x · 11/08/2013 13:53

Hi All, 40+6 here and a bit anxious. I had a sweep last week and it really hurt! I have another one booked for Thursday and nervous about it. Have been reading online it is bad for baby to go past 42 weeks, my induction date is next Saturday but again am scared it will be awful.
Sorry for ranting just first time and don't know what to expect!

PeriodFeatures · 11/08/2013 15:34

37 + 5 and my pubic bone feels like it has been badly bruised and wrenched. I am getting shooting twinges up my fangeeta too. Being very active, weeded large garden today and walked about two miles. How much longer??!!!!
