Me too Mayanbob! Baby born today at half twelve after a 5 1/2 hour labour at home. I had a huge cry at 9.30 when the kids left to stay with family, in case something would go wrong and leave them motherless. I was completely distraught! But I took some rescue remedy and pulled myself together. Went to take some cocodamol and realised dp had used them all in the last three days for his blinking toothache!
The contractions were every 2 min, then back to every 3-4 min when I got in the pool at 10.15am, mw's arrived shortly afterwards, didn't do any vaginal exams just left me to it (they did listen in & do blood pressure etc) kept me calm and talked me through all the contractions. I nibbled on a bit of toast but didn't really want it, so when I got to what must have been transition I took it out on the toast and screwed it up angrily.
I asked for gas and air when I started to feel like it was a bit too much for me to cope with, but they said "we'll just see how you get on through this next contraction" and it was only one or two more that I felt the baby come down and then it wasn't so painful, or perhaps painful in a different way? She was born in three quick "easy" pushes (third baby, two previous tears and a knackered pelvic floor = good for something!) it caught the mw's by surprise to be honest!
Mw posted baby through my legs to me and I caught her. She was tiny, 7lb like the others, covered in masses of vernix, she breathed and cried immediately, pinked up and had apgars of 9 and 9. Had physiological 3rd stage in the pool, intact placenta out in 10 min, and we were tucked up having a feed and a bacon butty on the sofa shortly after.
Bloody fab independent mw's made everything so easy, and didn't mess with me too much which I appreciated (asked me if I tore etc rather than poking around down there unnecessarily) as it happens I didn't tear for the first time ever, and it doesn't even sting when I wee. Must be because of the pool as my skin isn't that elastic usually.
She's a beautiful little thing, not sure what we're calling her yet. She's been on the boob a lot, just waking up for more now, need to change her first nappy. I feel incredibly lucky.
By the way, I had no signs before labour started, no braxton hicks overnight, no show (that came out on first push) apparently waters went in the pool but I didn't notice until mw said the waters had gone cloudy. So have faith, you know how frustrated and upset I was yesterday, maybe that was just a hormone surge prior to things kicking off. Best of luck to everyone still waiting. x
