Morning all - well it's my due date today and no sign of baby, but to be expected I guess! Also means sweep on thurs was not successful :( - oh well! Am gearing up for inlaws in T-2 hours....

Haddock :( really hope things get moving for you soon - take it easy today xx

Gerty1002 · 24/08/2013 09:23

Boosie that's my concern too, he's already measuring around a healthy 7lb10oz and that would do me fine - I dread to think of his size in three weeks time!

Had a few tightenings overnight but nothing major. Today is the day I predicted for myself to give birth a good while ago, but I'm not feeling hopeful :(.

Gingerandlemon · 24/08/2013 09:45

Another one here with lots of overnight tightenings - a couple painful enough to wake me up, but nowt else. Due on Monday.

Come on babies!!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 24/08/2013 09:48

A few tightenings last night which I ignored rather than get the contraction timer app out, and sure enough they went away after a while. Felt baby drop even lower in the middle of the night when I stood up for a wee. I swear I felt the bones of her head/face sliding down bit by bit, then my cervix stinging madly for a few secs, and now I do feel like I'm walking around a head. She was 3/5ths engaged yesterday according to mw, she feels like she's wearing my pants as a hat today.

abby81 · 24/08/2013 10:06

Hey guys, glad things seem to be lower and moving in the right direction James.

Nothing to report here and going to try and stay off MN today as I am getting a bit cross about still being pregnant! Good luck all and I will check in later x

Mayanbob · 24/08/2013 10:23

Hi everyone! Just wanted to check in and wish you all the best.

Islington - good luck with in-laws. I feel your pain. Have in-law BBQ today and if one more person tells me to hurry up Or mentions port and lemon (?) or a hot curry, I may go batshit crazy get. A. bit. upset.

Gerty- I too am a bit concerned about sizes. Was measuring 6lb 4 at scan 6 weeks ago. Shock

Off to eat some pineapple. Hope some of you have babies today!

islingtongirl · 24/08/2013 10:42

Thanks mayanbob - you too at bbq - raining buckets here in London, all day apparently, which means staying in all day with inlaws no doubt!

James - Grin at pants as hat!!

cakebaby · 24/08/2013 11:38

Hi ladies, well I went to my appt and have managed to calm down. Baby has got into a better position and shifted down a bit. Heart rate was good and all my stats good. Agreed to an exam, cervix closed but central and softening. MW could get 1 finger in (!) which I didn't feel at all. She doesn't think anything will happen before I see her next on Thurs.

I've read everything I can find re induction for those of us 40+, centers on reducing stillbirth. I can't find the clicky link at the moment, but googling 'NICE induction advanced maternal age' should do it if anyone needs to read it.

Hang in there ladies with outlaws, bbq's, rain, humidity, stubborn comfy babies

PurpleDana · 24/08/2013 13:27

Hi ladies!
Well the sweep worked, baby Poppy Mae born yesterday morning at 10.18am weighing 7lbs 11oz.
Natural birth, just a little gas & air for last hour or so of contractions, midwife wouldn't let me have it while pushing!
Good luck to the rest of u!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 24/08/2013 13:40

Fab purpledana! Congratulations, what an ideal birth! Love the name too x

Glad everything's ok cakebaby Smile

Woodifer · 24/08/2013 13:54

dana my sweep worked too!

Baby Will arrived yesterday at half three - bit fast and furious! Door to delivery 2:30hrs. Back to back, early pushing, getting rushed howling to theatre Blush, spinal - nearly cesarean - keillands rotational forceps and episiotomy - 1litre blood loss. Whew. Beautiful boy relatively unscathed, me with a sore undercarriage but hopefully home this eve!

Mayanbob · 24/08/2013 18:24

Woodifer and Dana- congratulations!!!!

Woodi- yours sounds a bit eventful but glad you and baby are(relatively) well.

How long after sweep did things start happening?

I got through BBQ and had a relatively nice time. Just feel excessively phlegmy now Confused
Actually don't want baby to come today as very tired.

Gingerandlemon · 24/08/2013 18:29

Right. So I'm definitely getting contractions that are noticeably more intense than the BH and have been coming more and more frequently all day so are now at 7 minutes apart. They're lasting about a minute.

But, they don't really hurt, I can feel them in my lower tummy and inside (what I think could be my cervix) and sometimes in my lower back but it's only a bit painful, not too bad.

Am I delusional and just having yet more braxton hicks? I haven't had a show but definitely noticed some colostrum leaking this morning when I was in the bath.

Help?!

Queazy · 24/08/2013 18:31

Congrats to those whose little ones have arrived :) I'm due today and no sign of this baby coming! I'm booked in for a sweep next Friday. Dreading waiting a week, but also dreading thought of a sweep. I feel too tired to go into labour today, but not sleeping at all now (2-3hrs) so might not be any better next week! Fingers crossed this baby comes soon Smile xx

Mayanbob · 24/08/2013 18:32

Ginger- I can't help because I haven't a clue. But from my perspective it sounds promising. Could you not phone midwife/ hospital and describe to them - they might be able to help?

Fingers crossed for you

Gingerandlemon · 24/08/2013 18:39

Ummm yeah I might ring the midwife. But I also feel a bit silly like I should know! They also seem to have slowed down again now and the baby just had a crazy five minutes dancing around so now I'm even less sure!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 24/08/2013 18:54

Ginger it sounds like braxton hicks but nobody knows until they just carry on and get really strong and closer together. They usually get more regular too but not always. Some people say that real contractions feel a bit like a huge fist closing over your uterus one finger at a time, from the top. Braxton hicks tend to happen mainly lower down and aren't usually painful. I'm sure your midwife would recommend a nice warm bath. If they're real they won't stop, if they're bh they will probably ease off. Hope they turn into something real for you!

I'm lay here having bh myself. Had a very stressful emotional morning so I've just had half an hours chill with a lavender candle burning, my hypno birthing cd on and I took some rescue remedy. Feeling much calmer now, all this tension won't do me or baby any good. Hoping things happen tonight.

Please baby, with the mc I had just before you, I have now been pregnant for almost a full year. Come out now!

Mayanbob · 24/08/2013 19:05

fortunately my midwife already thinks I am a doughnut after me being unsure of foetal movements for about 2 months.

I know how you feel but I'm sure they wouldn't mind you phoning. Maybe one of the experts on here will be along to offer proper advice. Good luck [crosses fingers]

Boosiehs · 24/08/2013 19:09

My BH are getting stronger and more uncomfortable. Nt sure what this all means. Painful period type pains. Hmmmm.

Baby is on eviction warning. :)

Gingerandlemon · 24/08/2013 19:25

Ooh thanks for the advice, James that's really informative. I shall watch and wait :). Bath sounds like an excellent idea though.

Good luck everyone!

Gingerandlemon · 24/08/2013 19:27

Oops meant to say Mayan I'm in the same boat. My midwife has done a lot of reassurance for various things over the past few months. I'm sure she must brace herself for my latest daft question whenever I have an appointment!

Gerty1002 · 24/08/2013 19:55

Well I think I'm in for another night of painful BH that lead to nothing after DTD. Maybe one time it will lead to the real thing... tonight would be lovely, but I'm not feeling hopeful.

Good luck to those hoping for the same and congratulations to those with new babies :)

PurpleDana · 24/08/2013 20:06

Ah congrats woodifer! Poppy turned back to back during labour so I was the same, wanting to push too early. I was turned away from hospital twice cos she said I wasn't progressing enough, until she found me in corridor trying to push lol. Then was rushed to delivery room! I went from 4cm to 8cm in one hour!
mayan my contractions started a couple of hrs after sweep, but after 6hrs they stopped & then started again 2hrs later.

bigredbaboonsbottom · 24/08/2013 20:32

Congrats to all the new mums!

Hi James, sorry for late reply to your question, have been out walking around all day trying to get baby to move.

No, just old and fat, no other issues health wise, well controlled asthma, but under midwife led care after consultant basically told me there was nothing wrong with me and couldn't understand why midwives weren't looking after me!

They have said that it's up to me, but if I chose not to then baby will have to be monitored every other day.

Hope your stress has gone down. x

Boosiehs · 25/08/2013 10:38

Congrats to the new mums! Same old same old feelings overnight. Woe up with horrible backache which is a new symptom. My bump appears to have got really firm all the time. Who knws. At least my lovely DH has made croissants for breakfast!

Hopefully we all hae better news after today!
