Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/08/2013 07:45

Yep, 40+9 and still bloody pregnant. 3 hours of contractions last night came to nothing. Mw here later, dunno whether to ask for a sweep or not (hate them) dp has started with nasty toothache so he doesn't want to dtd, can't blame him but the timing is just shit.

abby81 · 23/08/2013 07:56

Lots going on with many mums to be it seems. Congrats to new mums. For me (41 weeks today) nothing. But I wanted to give you a laugh, especially JamesandtheGiantBanana. Thought I might try the booby pump to try and stimulate nipples and thought I had better look at it anyway. Omg.

Why I did it sitting on the bouncy ball with DH on the controls I dont know! The gentle setting was ok, bit tingly and quite humorous watching my nipple being stretched a little. 1st time mum 2b giggling etc. And then DH thought it would be a good idea to see how high the power would go and how hard it would suck the nipple, whilst I had my back turned to catch something on tv. Bar stuard!

I screamed, looked down at my nipple being stretched to within an inch of its life, Dh screaming with laughter unable to turn it off. Me joining him whilst also screaming in shock but also wetting myself and falling off the bloody exercise ball. Well......

Still no labour!

Hopefully something this weekend though perlease!!!!!!!

Hope this little story brightened ur frustrated waiting.

Good luck today and hope to hear about more babies soon!

Gerty1002 · 23/08/2013 09:13

JamesAnd Yes I was so convinced he was going to break the waters that I sat on a towel all evening! No such luck though, just lots of pain.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/08/2013 10:31

Lol Abby if you guys managed to get that much of a laugh from your breastpump, wait til he's electrocuting you with the tens machine and folding you up in the hospital bed! Grin

Mw may be giving me a sweep later, I feel sick at the thought (can't believe how much of a wuss I'm being) but I have achy af like pain and heartburn so its the last thing I feel like doing really. Got to start this off soon though, can't go on much longer.

islingtongirl · 23/08/2013 11:11

Hello all! Haha Abby that did give me a laugh, thanks Grin

James - I had a sweep yesterday and wasn't that bad, I say go for it! Having said that nothing seems to be happening this morning Confused have gone for a walk and treated myself to coffee and cake to take my mind off things...PIL imminent arrival tomorrow (due date) - heard OH on phone to them last night, they dont seem to understand the concept of a due date just being an estimate and are convinced baby will be here tomorrow Hmm - feeling a bit stressed!

bigredbaboonsbottom · 23/08/2013 11:32

Lol at that story Abby!

So, my question of the day - been told to stay upright to try and get gravity to do its job and bounce around on ball to try and encourage baby to move to right position. Problem is my poor feet and ankles are swelling like a bastard.... Do I put my feet up or bounce around like a lunatic??

Gerty1002 · 23/08/2013 11:53

BigRed I'm having a similar debate myself - walking hurts my feet and entire pelvis but also noticeably brings on the braxton hicks and period pains... going for 'no pain no gain' approach and off for a walk to the shops!

Gingerandlemon · 23/08/2013 13:01

Ok. I'm 39+4 which I realise is a couple of weeks behind some of you ladies. But still. I'm boooooored shiiiiiiitlesssss.

That is all.

Boosiehs · 23/08/2013 14:14

Well I'm BORED! Overdue today, 40+1.

Went for a lovely facial this morning and the beautician rubbed my ankles as she said this was a pressure point to bring on labour! Around the boney bits an along Achilles' tendon. Even if it doesn't work it was nice and relaxing!

Baby still bouncing on my cervix but no other signs. Meh.

abby81 hahahaha! That's hilarious! Your mean dp, that thing can bloody suck! Grin

(ps- I'm only 23 weeks but love checking up on you all and looking forward to my turn to be overdue and pissed off join in!)

Haddock73 · 23/08/2013 15:38

I feel like this baby will never come!! 40+5, sweep number 2 booked for tomorrow.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/08/2013 16:25

I wussed out of the sweep, mw said I can change my mind at any time anyway as she only lives 10 mins away. She said my blood pressure has elevated slightly which can be an indicator of labour being imminent. It's normally on the low side so not a problem anyway (and I had got myself all anxious about the sweep before she came round) she said not to worry about 42 weeks being some kind of cutoff point, and that she had had a lady go to 43+3 before now, she just keeps doing very regular checks. Calm now! Phew. Dtd instead, not exactly fun at this stage but more so than a sweep. Smile

LilPeasMama · 23/08/2013 18:34

Congrats Jolly Flowers

Haha Abby that made me laugh!

Got upset yesterday had just had enough, could not sit or get in a comfortable position at all and having been losing plug for nearly a week wondered how long it could go on for.

Well at 4am this morning contractions started, saw mw this morning who has done a sweep as planned, membranes still intact but says I was 2cm dilated.
Sweep was slightly uncomfortable but better than expected contractions have been coming and going not sure if I'm timing them right but using a tens which helps.

cakebaby · 23/08/2013 18:47

Yeahhh jolly hope you are both doing well!

Abby brilliant, gave me a much needed chuckle!

lilpeas fx for you!

Nothing happening here.... I have a sweep booked for the morning, seriously considering not having it. Not my idea, it's my edd & policy here is to offer edd as I am (just) 40. I've had no issues AT ALL, everything has been fine so far. I've had no BH, no plug loss, not uncomfortable, baby head down but not engaged as facing sideways on and showing no sign of shifting.

It just doesn't feel right, but this dc1 and what do I know? DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO! Arrgghhhhh!

Talk some sense into me......please!

Gonnabmummy · 23/08/2013 19:20

39+2 have a sweep book next Friday will be 40+2 doubt it'll make much difference as don't feel like he's coming anytime soon!
At the moment not fussed being late but that might change. Can't believe it's only 5 days to my due date!

MrsLianeB · 23/08/2013 19:51

40+9 had a 3rd sweep today with some monitoring and booked for induction on Sunday hopefully baba will be here in time for bank holiday!

The end is in sight! Smile

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/08/2013 20:19

Cakebaby, if you don't feel a sweep is right for you (or right right now)then don't have one! If everything is fine and you aren't too fed up, there's really nothing wrong with waiting, it's entirely up to you, they just offer them routinely, you don't have to accept.

cakebaby · 23/08/2013 20:38

Thank you james I'm just getting my (now giant but soooo comfy) knickers in a twist as they've told me from 16 weeks that someone of 'my age' (40) should be induced at edd. This is local policy and takes no account of how well things have gone so far. They've drummed into me the increased risk of still birth - from 1 in 10000 to 2 in 10000 or similar when going over 40 wks at 40+yrs, all they've done is scare me really and I'm losing perspective!

Boosiehs · 23/08/2013 21:39

Cakebaby that sounds crazy!

I've had no signs at all! Apart from a very active baby who keeps head butting my cervix. Argh!!!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/08/2013 22:36

Just lost a long message, thanks mumsnet Hmm

To sum up: I have a similar situation due to high bmi not being over 40, no other health problems. I'm now with an independent midwife who is happy to let me labour naturally at home as I didn't like being forced down a highly medicalised care pathway when there was no clinical need for it.

You need to weigh up the benefits and risks of induction vs the benefits and risks of going into labour naturally as an over 40. Do some research, ask them for their statistics, ask also for the statistics about induction of labour, and "what happens if we wait?"

bigredbaboonsbottom · 23/08/2013 23:44

James / Cake, interested in this discussion as have high bmi, 40, 1st baby and now 40+11.

They're trying to push me for induction on Monday, but I'm really not keen.

Refused sweep on Monday, tried on Thursday but unfavorable cervix.

Nobody has mentioned increased risks to me, even though I asked on Thursday. Oh well, let's see what the weekend brings.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 23/08/2013 23:49

Do you mean they haven't discussed why they want to induce you? Or haven't given you statistics/studies to back up what they say? They are meant to tell you the risks and benefits of intervening or not, so you can make an informed decision.

Do you have any other health problems beyond raised bmi & being over 40?

Boosiehs · 24/08/2013 09:11

My only concern with going overdue is an enormous baby!!

how are we all today? Any signs of babies?

I've had lots of tightening overnight. Nothing else though. Meh.

Haddock73 · 24/08/2013 09:17

6th day of painful contractions, 10 mins apart for 2 hours at a time, 40+6. Not sure how much more I can take of this. 2nd sweep today.
