cakebaby a lot will depend on your baby
DD took to it straight away which was lucky. Also if it feels ok to you it prob is :) I say this because had wonderful support in hospital where could press buzzer and mid wife would come check latch. Then at home Health visitor wanted to watch me feed and said she had a noisy suck on one side (which can indicate problem with latch, could lead to soreness) BUT I wasn't sore at all, so I just ignored her (where if you're not careful a well intentioned expert can knock your confidence for no reason).
My top tips are - to start with (in hospital it's always warm, or if you're at home nice warm room) get baby down to nappy and take off all your top layers so you get lots of lovely skin skin and aren't trying to hold clothes out of the way.
I have a book on breastfeeding called 'the food of love', friends also recommended a la leche league book but I haven't read that one. Anyway 'the food of love' includes some troubleshooting pages, to help you identify any prob you might encounter (from tongue tie, to mastitis, to thrush) and advises you how to resolve them. I didn't really have any problems but felt more confident knowing this stuff.
I bought a tube of Lansinoh and never used any :-O
I found the Lansinoh breast pads the best (have you got some - you don't mention them).
I hope overdue DC2 is as good as their big sister was. Sorry for poor quality post - am typing on phone.
