Zeuxippe · 26/04/2013 06:48

Hi everyone! Great to hear the scan news bod and anda. Two girls, wow! Good luck to diy today!

I've reached the 7+0 stage today, yay! And am off to tell my GP I'm up duffed this afternoon (and beg her for an early scan on the NHS). What are the chances?

IBelieveInPink · 26/04/2013 07:06

Morning zeux. Really depends where you live. Mind were having none of it, so be prepared to outline how much stress you under etc. I know some places are better than others though. Good luck!

andadietcoke · 26/04/2013 07:15

Zeux congratulations on getting to 7 weeks -for me that was a big milestone Grin

I think it depends on the GP and the EPU. Is your local EPU self referral or not? If it is, then you could always ring them regardless of what the GP says and beg

DIY good luck today xx

ChocolateCremeEggBag · 26/04/2013 07:22

Good morning, I think we have at least one graduate today from Fertile Friday.

Jmf & Janie - I haven't booked an early scan yet. I'm 6.5weeks today going off LMP, but my BFP took a few days to show, so I'm not convinced I'm that far on. DH is then away from Sun 5May to Sun 12th, so not sure whether to risk a scan on the 4th when it could be too early (would be 7.6 weeks at best) Otherwise have to wait until the 18th of May when we are both free to go. I keep checking availability on their website like a mad thing.

shellshock7 · 26/04/2013 08:38

Good luck today DIY a good scan should mean you pass your milestone a bit easier Smile

bod I found I preferred normal
leggings to maternity ones last time, sat under the bump instead of rolling down it! I suppose it might depend on how big you are? Will hopefully go JoJo shopping tho after scan, love their maternity work dresses and only have winter ones from last time Wink

Enjoy booking in vix Smile

jmf great passing that milestone Grin Is that your last one now, just looking forward to 12w scan?

Hope you get an early scan zeux I didn't but my GP got my 12w scan at the earliest possible date which helped Smile

So, my body just changed over night, my bump has gone nuclear, really big, hard and heavy feels like Im carrying something in there Wink And same up top! Had to dig out an old big shirt to wear for work today, look a mess but only one more work day before the scan to get thru. After hearing the HB I'm really getting hopeful for Tuesday but then you think don't get ahead of yourself, as pink would say 4d 5h 24m to go Grin

BumpKitty · 26/04/2013 09:12

choc I know it's hard but I'd wait if I was you, from what I've seen on here its just too stressful to have an early one that doesn't show much and you'll see so much more if you are over 9 weeks. But saying all of that I know the waiting is torture!

Pentagon · 26/04/2013 10:52

arrrghhh, I've just written a post and lost it!!! OK, here we go again...

zeup it's worth having a look here to see if your local EPU accepts self-referrals at all (but you'd probably know if they did):

earlypregnancy.org.uk/FindUsMap.asp

It really depends on the GP, some are more sympathetic than others. Mine sent me straightaway when pregnant with DD after having a missed miscarriage and this time, after my 2nd missed miscarriage, I didn't even have to ask, she phoned them when she sent me to the loo for a urine sample! She's lovely, bless her! Good luck, I hope you get one!

choc if you can wait, it's better to have one at 8 or 9 weeks - 9 preferably as by then all the major organs are formed (if I'm not mistaken, Bodicea had better confirm) and the risk of miscarriage decreases considerably.

GaryBuseysTeeth · 26/04/2013 11:04

Welcome stich & amber!
Congrats on the scan & booking appoint Bod, you pregnant lady you! Grin and enjoy Sean Locke tonight!

Good luck DIY!

Good luck in getting an early scan Zeux, well done on 7wks today!

Congrats to your friend Janie, how wonderful to have someone in real life to share it with.

JMF, well done on getting through the appointment!

Any exciting plans for the weekend?

Lucky13ForBaby · 26/04/2013 11:12

Morning all. Am sat at the Drs again! My 2nd home these days. Going to ask her about the pains I had yest and got to unfortunately get signed back on at work. Totally dreading it as have to support other people and am struggling to support myself right now! Will have to see how it goes I guess. My booking in is now next Tuesday as when I went this week they just took bloods and asked about domestic violence. Glad DH didn't have the day off work! With regards to a scan I had one at 7 weeks and for various reasons I only measured 5+ and no heartbeat. Had an agonising 15 days then went back for a re scan to see a heart beat and dated nearly 9 weeks. In my case the early scan caused a lot of worry and heartache. Those extra few weeks make a big difference! Sorry to hear some of you have had a worrying time this week but glad all is ok. Lol at the fanny farts! Please let me not have those :)

GardenWorm · 26/04/2013 11:44

Good to hear from you Lucky take it the pains went away? Hope you have helpful Dr who can put you mind a little more at rest. I always find that when I don't want to go into work because it's crap/stressfull etc, it's never as bad as what I thought it would be when I actually get there. Bit like Sunday night when you were at school iykwim!

Having said that I've just left work early so I can go to my booking in appt so today was officially a good day at work!

Aoifebelle · 26/04/2013 13:23

Wow, such alot of news in a couple of days. Lucky it is fantastic to see the little heart beating away. That first scan I had was awful. I asked the GP and she said - yeah you will see a heart beat and the limbs. I went and there was an empty sac - just a void with nothing visible in there. So glad they took my HcG levels otherwise the two week wait to be rescanned would have totally done my nut in. Sorry that work is so stressful for you at the mo. I am quite lucky I can generally hide when I need to. I can't imaging having to be supportive to others right now. I can barely tie my shoelace.

Pentagon, Bod & IBIPwell done on your milestones. You all sound on really good form.

Zeux this is really really naughty (Bod turn away now) and perhaps tempting fate, but you could say you are getting cramps - they might scan you then.

I am also looking for a bit of advice ladies. I have booked in for the harmony test on 13th May, 12 week scan and results on the 24th may. This is the day before I go on holiday with my OH, sister and three nieces. Do I a) get the results before I go or b) delay getting the results until I get back
If I get good news will be the best holiday ever, but if less good news then could ruin the week for all. Really don't know what to do.

DIYandEatCake · 26/04/2013 14:37

I'd get the results if it were me, but you know yourself best, would you be able to put it out of your mind for the holiday or would you keep thinking about it? Is there any reason you're high risk (is it a test for chromosomal abnormalities?)

Just back from my scan, there is a 9mm long little baby in there with a heartbeat! Eeeeeeep! They dated it at 6+6 which I guess is spot on as I have 30 day cycles and usually ov on day 16. So so relieved. Trying to contain my excitement a bit, dp is distinctly underwhelmed and is more stressing than excited (at the prospect of having another baby). Think it may be time to tell our parents now, I know they'll be excited too.

JanieLovesCake · 26/04/2013 14:41

Aaah DIY I'm delighted for you!!! Congratulations GrinGrinGrin that's great that they were able to see the heartbeat even with you being quite early!!! Bet you had a wave of relief!! My DH still doesn't mention it much, I think he's a bit more worried too (and we don't have any kids yet!)

Lucky good to hear from you, hope your doctor was reassuring xxx

JanieLovesCake · 26/04/2013 14:42

Oh and Aoife I would defo get the results if it was me...no way could I sleep or be out if the country without knowing!!!

BumpKitty · 26/04/2013 15:08

aoife i would get the results, I couldn't cope with knowing they were there ready to be read.

diy that's brilliant :) hope you have a lovely weekend of not worrying!

janie i don't think it's very real for the DHs yet, mine started reading up about labour (on his iphone) whilst I was actually giving birth Grin

Right, had my booking in. My midwife is super lovely which is great as I never got on with my one in my first pg. I did have a good cry because I had to say about my mum dying in January but at least I won't have to do that again. She didn't take my bloods as I'll have them taken on Monday when I have my 12 week scan. Good things about it being at home - I could nip off to my own bathroom to wee in the tube. Bad things - the dog widdling on the floor in front of the midwife Blush

Aoifebelle · 26/04/2013 15:22

Woo Hoo DIY. Another heartbeat to add to the list. Fantastic news.
Bump I had no idea MWs did house visits. I don't think I could be arsed to tidy up! At least you didn't widdle on the floor.

Thanks for the advice all. The test will give me pretty definitive results for chromosomal abnormalities. Going for it as a) I am a bit old (38) and b) after MC don't want to be faced with the amnio choice if I get a higher than comfortable risk of abnormality. If you do the harmony test at 10 weeks it costs £180 and the results give a much more precise indication of risk than the nuchal plus bloods. The cost rockets after week 10 to nearer £600.

Will think on.

Pentagon · 26/04/2013 16:01

Congrats DIY! Now you can enjoy the weekend! Plenty of good news lately, hooray!

Aoif, I would definitely get the results before the holiday otherwise I wouldn?t be able to enjoy it. Chances are your results will be fine anyway! You?re going to the FMC, aren?t you? That?s where I had it done too because same as you, I wanted to do it early and know early (especially since it is at such a great price) rather than wait till I?m 14-15 weeks get a bad or average result from the combined test, freak out and pay a fortune for the Harmony then. I am 35yrs old but a close family member had a baby with Downs syndrome about a year ago and my DH is terrified ...he was up for having an amnio no matter what the combined test result. Thank goodness we found out about the Harmony test!

AmberSocks · 26/04/2013 16:44

jmf-everyone asks how i cope with 4,im not sure what the answer is really!I just do.
I did find going from 2-3 difficult, but my first 3 were in 2 years, and it got really hard once the youngest was toddling about as i had 3 toddlers and they were all quite mischievous!3-4 has been a doddle,so hopefully it will be the same this time.

i am only just under 7 weeks so wont be contacting the midwife yet, will probably wait til im at least ten weeks, thats what ive done the last 3 times. im still i contact with my midwife from last time,i had the same one all the way through and she did my home birth too so ill book in with her,i dont think she will be expecting to see me again so soon!hopefully she can do home visits like last time!

stitchinline · 26/04/2013 17:26

Lots of lovely scan news!

I'm still undecided about when to have first scan, I am unsure of exact dates as my cycles post breast feeding hadn't really settled into a pattern so I don't want to get it done too early as not seeing anything would completely mess with me. I keep looking at dates and going no I better not get it done then as that is just before X and if its bad news then..... So need to be more positive! Will prob try to wait til about 8/9 weeks... Going to try not to be as much of a scan addict as I was last time around.
Hope you all have lovely weekends.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 26/04/2013 18:05

Great news about all the scans! I think we'll probably wait til 12 weeks. Hopefully a much lower risk then. Felt so unbelievably sick today though, which I'm taking as a positive!

I'm sorry again I'm on my phone and can't check back. lucky- hope all is ok. Welcome Amber- I will be having my third too (all going well) so tips on how to cope well received nearer the time! Have you had any losses?
