1st baby, how many weeks (+days?) were you gone when the baby was born?
Was it spontaneous, induced or C-section with no labour?
If you don't mind saying, how would you describe your ethnic origin (some ethnic groups may go longer than others....)?

Ta! My answers are:
39 weeks+0days, spontaneious, American white mutt.

My theory - totally unsubstantiated - is that early labours might run in families. I am however almost certainly talking b*llocks. I usually am

37.+4 - elective cs due to placenta praevia. Baby born weight 8lb 8oz white British. Suspect despite bahy's weight and maturity (no special care or anything) he would have be born at the very least two weeks later in diff circs. I had no sense of impending labour and no Braxton Hicks etc. He was head down though, with his head firmly tucked into a corner of my pelvis...

Just to be different. Twins runs in my family. I had a period at end of August, found out I was pregnant in Oct., MW calculated the due date as 28 May,2003. When the scan was done, measurements calculated it to be 21 May,2003.

Don't know if she was early or late, as far as I know, she shouldn't have even been here. But she weighed in at 7 lbs 12 ozs, healthy looking on 28 May with a natural labour.

Records has it as term plus 7. We will never know. All I know is that 2 eggs were released and one was in hiding waiting for a sperm to come along.

Spanish, Indian, Caribbean mix, I just say fruitcake. Baby is even more complicated.

Zebra - didn't realise you needed more detail. Sorry from me too. Spontaneous labour but ended in emergency c-section due to foetal distress. (38wks +1 btw)

40 weeks and one day!
my waters broke the morning i was due and i went into labour that night and gave birth the next morning. 12 hours of pure pain and joy. the most amazing and strangest experience my dh and i have ever had. after 4 hours of labour i asked for an epidural, i was giving pethidine first which sent me off to the fairies and i forgot about the epidural. i gave birth to a 7.11 beautiful baby girl. aaahhhhhh i could go on forever. x my origin is irish

37 + 4
induced with gel then drip then c section (preeclampsia)
white english aged 30

Interesting point about dates GenT. Is the mother or the dating scan more reliable? I mentioned both in my post because I was absolutely certain on my dates. Although hospital changed due date twice. Friend had baby 3 days late but said cycle was between 26 and 39 days. I think they take the average (ie median) in this case but its not that likely to have been that and her baby might actually have been early.

Anna01 · 21/01/2004 15:24

39+1, Spontaneous hospital birth.
Mixed breed white british/italian.

suzywong · 21/01/2004 15:32

me too, I wascertain by dates but scan put ds2 forward a week because of large size. Then he came in the edd by my calculations, so IME mother knows best

womba1 · 21/01/2004 15:33

37+1 started to labour, waters were broken and after 28 hours, forceps tried/failed and emergency c-section.

English and white :0

uplate · 21/01/2004 15:33

Can I just ask, if your baby is born exactly on the due date, how many weeks is that?

Bozza · 21/01/2004 15:38

Its 40 weeks uplate in UK but some argument over whether this is right.

Zerub · 21/01/2004 15:41

Just read this again; didn't realise you wanted the elective c-sections.

38+4 elective c-section for footling breech (wish I'd refused and made them wait a fortnight now!)

WedgiesMum · 21/01/2004 15:42

DS 42 weeks induced with gel but no further intervention

uplate · 21/01/2004 15:45

40 weeks +0 days, spontaneous but slow progress (27+ hrs labour) lead to induction (failed), then emergency c section due to fetal distress.

steppemum · 21/01/2004 16:35

do you need our age? I was 35

zebra · 21/01/2004 16:55

I'm a stats-hoover so of course I'll note age if you want to volunteer but I'm not too bothered. I imagine that relatively quite old (
