my baby is 6 weeks where has the time gone!

twocatsonthebed · 04/08/2006 11:26

Morning everyone,

Arabica - hope all is going well for you and little Esja - thinking of you.

Caitlinsmummy - hope the scan is OK today, as mygirl says, there are people on this thread who have had loads of bleeding and now have babies to show for it.

t4t - I was told very clearly by the hospital after my miscarriage that there was no medical reason at all not to get pregnant on the very next cycle - it's more for the convenience of the doctors than anything else!

And hello Slink - good to hear from you. 6 weeks?!? blimey, time really is ticking on.

Hello to everyone else too, how are you all doing?

littlefrog · 04/08/2006 12:18

Hello everyone,
(Sorry this is going to be long I need to tell someone about this and so far we?ve not told anyone about this pregnancy)
Well, I feel as if I should be feeling much better now, after a nasty day or so. I got myself into a real state last night (husband was away) and convinced myself that the pains I kept having on my right side could be sinister (my first miscarriage was a suspected ectopic, so I?m paranoid). So went to the GP this morning (different one from the last few times) who took things seriously. They?d wanted urine earlier in the week to do their own pregnancy test (did they think I was imagining it?), but as the results hadn?t come back she did one then, which was indeed positive ? after she?d messed the first one up by dipping it in too far and wondering out loud ?what the tests are saying?. She also said ? and I?m sure this was meant to be kind and helpful and reassuring ? that if this pregnancy goes wrong then they?ll refer me to a recurrent miscarriage clinic. Good to know, but not quite what I want to think about just now.
Anyway, from an appointment at 9.45 she got me a scan appointment at 11 ? up the NHS! The doctor and sonographer completely freaked me out to begin with by going absolutely silent.
Then the sonographer said ?does it feel as if it?s in the right place??
I was totally taken aback, and said, well, that?s what I?m here to find out!
No no, said the sonographer, is the probe in the right place?!?!
Anyway, after all that it?s good news: a yolk sac in the right place and even a tiny little beginning of a baby! 1.6mm. And some pulsing on the screen that they said was almost certainly a heartbeat! So I should be feeling super-relieved now, I suppose (I?m not, not yet anyway). Another scan in 10 days time, and then they said they?d give me sequential scans every fortnight or so to make sure all is going well.
All I feel like doing now is crawling into a corner with a woolly hat hot chocolate and a duvet ? all for comfort, as it?s not that cold here!

Really really hope it was good news again for you today Caitlinsmummy, and lots of good wishes for baby Esja too.

twocatsonthebed · 04/08/2006 12:30

oh littlefrog I'm so pleased for you, even if you did have to go through all of that to find out. And I'm also really pleased that you are now getting proper care and regular scans. According to the research, feeling looked after in any pregnancy after a miscarriage really improves its chances, so it's great that you are in good hands.

I also find that chocolate works, whatever the weather...

Caitlins- Hope everything's ok. x
Slink- 6 Weeks!!!!!!!!! Mind you, little miss Katie Boo will be 2 weeks on Tuesday!!!! It's flying by.
Mygirl- You'll be up soon with an announcement hun, won't be too long x

Well little one is doing fab. Now 2 & 1/2 ozs above birth weight & think a fair bit more (find out Sunday). She's a gannet when it comes to food & as soon as she's drinking from me & bottles (she's still got the feeding tube) she'll be home. Could even be as earlier as the next few days, just waiting on her.

I've dropped a jeans size already, only 1 more to go. Now in size 10's

caitlinsmummy · 04/08/2006 18:48

Hi everyone and great news littlefrog, so happy for you, baby is fine, now 9 1/2 weeks and baby nearly double size of las week, even got to hear heartbeat. some tiny spotting again afterwards . I am so sick of it now, the midwife today said i will be fine now. But i had genital warts a while bk which came bk again {sorry TMI} but waiting to see dr to see if it is safe to have them removed during pregnancy or not, but midwife said this could b whats causing spotting. I jus dont wanna pester them if i get it again before 12 week scan, also was told that too many scans are not good, so dunno wht to do if happens again xxx

Hi all!

Just a quickie.

Baby Austin was born on Wed eve at 8:03pm weighing in at 8lb 11oz. Two days before his due date, one day before my labour was to be induced! Phew....! He is an absolute dream to have apart from i can't get the hang of breastfeeding. Have cracked, bleeding sore nipples and as hard as i try its a killer. Does it get easier when your milk comes in? He is being topped up with formula for now as he was getting very dehydrated and having lots of twitches. Seems better now thou. Asleep in his pram.

Will check in properly soon.

Snow x

twocatsonthebed · 06/08/2006 11:48

Snowboo - that's fantastic news!

Lots of love and congratulations to the whole Snowboo family - and I do think Austin is a lovely name. Hope the breastfeeding gets easier.

petunia · 06/08/2006 11:55

Congratulations Snowboo! Wonderful news!

I've had bleeding nipples with all 3 of mine, don't think it helped when the milk came in, but it only lasted a day or 2 'til nipples "toughened up" a bit. I think the advice is to rub some breastmilk into your nipples. I think my Aunt also found it helped to go bra-less as well to let some air get to them. If you can keep going with the breastfeeding it does get better after 1-2 days.

Hello Snowboo, congratulations on the birth of baby Austin. Breastfeeding is much harder than it is made out to be (for nearly everyone I know, esp with baby 1) is there a BF drop in at a clinic near your house? worth going to. You deserve good support, and there's nothing better than someone to show you with babe. If not, I read a great book by a woman called Clare Byam Cook (apparently she does a video/DVD as well) on BF and general baby care - sensible tips and non-judgemental in my experience. good luck and welcome baby Austin

SnowBoo · 06/08/2006 20:26

My neighbour is a breast feeding advisor so will ask her for help. Seems a bit easier apart from one boob being heavily engorged. Have just sat here expressing to try and ease the agony!

Sounds like it might just be a scratch but get it checked if you are at all worried. I had many concerns which all turned out fine but i felt better for the reassurance.

littlefrog · 06/08/2006 22:22

Many congratulations Snowboo!
Mygirl - if it were me, I'd ask someone about the spotting, just to put your mind at rest.

slinkstah · 07/08/2006 00:10

mygirl- you do know you are not allowed to use the applicator in pregnancy its a big no no. i was told this many times as used a pessary about 12 times during pregnancy poor me, i haven't had thrush since he was born though. It could be a scratch from your cervix but i would get checked out anyway.

snowboo- congratulations hunny i was waiting of news for you, can't wait for your birth story. DOn#t worry about BF its normal for nipples to be painful and bleeding at first, they will toughen up in a few days. put some cream on them - lansinoh is the best i have been told. Also make sure babys mouth is really wide, bottom lip lower on the nipple than the top. also put a hot flannel on the engorged boob before you feed/express and it will make it easier to clear the blockage.

wools · 07/08/2006 07:43

Congratulations Snowboo - that's fantastic news. Sorry to hear the bfeeding is difficult - I have always found breastfeeding very hard, I think it's great that you are persevering - I hope I will be able to do the same.

Agree with the others Mygirl - probably nothing but best get it checked out to put your mind at rest.

Hope everyone else is okay.

HellKat · 07/08/2006 08:09

Congrats SnowBoo!!!!!!
It does get easier. I'm expressing for england at the mo & touch wood my boobs are reacting well to the vicious electric pump. If they get engorged or sore, lie back in a really warm bath with some hot flannels on them & try to express a few drops. it really helps. Also after everytime you feed or express, rub breast milk into them as petunia said. It really does work. Worse case scenario & they don't ease & you have to use formula, don't beat yourself up about it hun. Better a babba to have a few drops than none at all.

Mygirl- best to safe than sorry hun & get it checked.

Little katie got weighed yesterday & gained yet another 2&1/2ozs lol. Little piggy. She's now 4lb 1ozs! Wahooo finally over 4lb. Does'nt sound so dinky now.

Hope everyone's well & enjoying this cool spell.
