great news Caitlinsmummy, I had my planned scan on Thursday (9 weeks), and saw the beanie. I've also been looking at the stats in the Lesley Regan book, very encouraging. Given that the last time they scanned, the baby was only the same size/stage as the baby we lost earlier this year, and now at 9 weeks it is twice the size, this also seems encouraging.

i think its inevitable WWW that we think of the little ones we lost at their due date - its normal to be sad. but I'm constantly amazed at how things turn out - it took us nearly a year to conceive the little one we lost, and then exactly a month after the ERPC we conceived this new beanie.

i'm struggling with this heat, pregnancy exhaustion and feeling a bit sick. but trying to keep pecker up. its good to hear of new arrivals like Katie - well done HellKat

I hope no-one minds if I join this thread? I just need to ask a question on behalf of my lovely sil. She is 8 weeks pregnant after 4 miscarriages. They saw a heartbeat at 7 weeks and again just now at 8 weeks which is great but there was a a black spot on the scan, near the heartbeat and the dr said she had had a heamorage although she has not had bleeding so she doesn't really understand what it means? He said 'don't worry about it' but she is beside herself with worry. She just wasn't in the right frame of mind to get him to clarify. She thought maybe it was the other embryo that was put back in with this IVF cycle but wouldnt' he have told her if that was the case? Would anyone have any idea what it all could have meant? I'd love to be able to reassure her.

weewilliewinkie · 29/07/2006 10:36

Hi melbournemum,
I'm sure that given the doctor told her not to worry it means that in his opinion there really won't be anything to worry about! If there was something wrong he would have told her straight away. Is she booked for another scan soon? See if she can get another one sooner rather than later as nothing will put her mind at rest better. Maybe she could phone the doctor to find out exactly what he was talking about? Sorry, I have no idea what the black spot could be. The fact she could see the heartbeat at this early stage is a fantastic sign so she should be thrilled with that. Hope all goes well for her.

Hi t4t, do feel more positive now, of course its inevitable we think of lost babies, didnt mean to disregard them, i still think about 2 babies i lost and this was 2 years ago. Jus have to force myself to think positive. So how many weeks are you? 9? xx

littlefrog · 31/07/2006 10:26

Hello again,
This feels a very positive thread - great news from Arabica, Hellkat and Caitlinsmum all in the one week.
I went to see the GP after I got my BFP; she was great when I miscarried, but a bit less helpful this time: 'that's very soon, isn't it', 'are you sure your period isn't just a little late', 'well, if things go wrong this time then we'll refer you to a gynaecologist'...
Anyway, that was last week, and she wants a urine sample this week so that they could do a pregnancy test as well (why??). Not sure now when I should go back etc. etc.
Also, she said that I could have a scan whenever, but what do people think, when's a sensible time? We lost the last one at 10+5 (missed miscarriage though, so not sure when it went wrong - more like 7, they thought). When is the earliest you can see a heartbeat?
Wish I felt more positive about this one, but in a calm kind of way I just can't believe it won't go wrong again.

caitlinsmummy · 31/07/2006 11:07

Hey littlefrog, I know how you feel, very distressing, even altho i have got bbys heartbeat twice, at 6 weeks and jus under 9 weeks i still cant get ecstatic .... yet! I no that it seemingly falls to 3% after heartbeat is found, but its hard to get excited, i am trying. Thats all any of us can do is try our best to be positive. I too had 2 miscarriages 2 years ago now, I also have a little girl aged 5 from previous relationship xx

wools · 31/07/2006 11:28

Hellkat - she is gorgeous, a real cutie. She doesn't look at all premature - very robust imo. Crikey - that is a big increase in boob size. Mine don't get that much bigger unfortunately.

Littlefrog - sorry to hear GP wasn't as good as she might have been.... How many weeks are you now? I think 7 weeks is a good time for the scan - at least then a heartbeat should be picked up - any sooner and they won;t be able to tell you a lot. I had 2 missed miscarriages - babies had both died at about 6 weeks but like you, I didn;t bleed until week 10. I'm sure everything will be fine this time - although it doesn;t stop you worrying does it?

Hello everyone,

HK - Katie looks amazing, feisty indeed. You must be very proud and pleased, never mind relieved.

Littlefrog - it's amazing how unsympathetic some medical people can be, when they really ought to know better. I think the right answer as to the scan is, whenever it will reassure you most. I also had a missed miscarriage at almost the exact same times as you, and so got a scan at about 8 weeks, because the worst thing for me would have been walking around thinking I was pregnant when i wasn't. But you'll know what feels right for you and your situation.

Well, I'm now at 27 weeks, which I can't quite believe, and trying to get out of denial mode. To which end we went down to London to get a whole load of baby stuff from a friend of mine. It practically filled the car! We've now got everything from a complete travel system and moses basket to disposable breast pads, never mind the four bin liners of clothes and bedding. It is, frankly, terrifying. But I'm going to ignore it for a bit until we've got the room painted (!).

Hope everyone else is well. x

Thanks all.
She really is our pride & joy . Dp decided to leave me a soppy message on there yesterday, nearly cried lol what with all these hormones racing around.
Yep my boob size increase is tremendous! I so feel like I'm carting udders around, especailly the amount of milk that comes out of them.
Glad to hear everyone's doing well.
Mygirl- it is very quiet on here now. Can't believe you've only got 14 wks left. it'll fly by.

I just had a text from arabica, esja is in special care and it's hard for her to stay in touch, so I'll ring her after 8 tonight for an update and post tomorrow, bundle x

wools · 02/08/2006 14:21

Hi all.

Yes it is quiet on here these days but agree its' because everyone is graduating to the post-natal thread. Thanks Bundle for the update on Arabica -really hope Esja is okay.

twocatsonthebed · 02/08/2006 18:42

It's so lovely, and so encouraging, to hear about babies that have been born, and babies that are coming along well. It's certainly what I need at this stage - some reminder that it is possible that children can be born after miscarriages! Am getting worried about lack of tiredness, sickness, breast tenderness - it may be earlier than they started last time around, but I'm not sure...
Hope everyone's well.

(I've also posted this in Health)
I spoke to Arabica last night - they're trying to "build up" Esja in special care, she has little sucking reflex and so they're feeding her by tube.

Her main symptom is global hypotonia, or low muscle tone, so she's quite floppy.

You may remember that the doctors were concerned during her scans because of the larger than normal ventricles in the brain (ventriculomegaly) but they still don't know what's caused this but various "syndromes" have been mentioned.

A geneticist is due to visit the hospital today to see another baby but will also see Esja and have a detailed look at her DNA too.

Arabica said she does have a certain "look" (a flattish nose, lowish ears and slanted eyes) but this may just be family stuff rather than anything significant.

She said the hospital are being great, she can stay overnight and she also sounded like she was recovering well from her c-section. I think she's being very very brave.

I sent her all best wishes from MN and told her we were all thinking about her.

I'll let you know if I hear any more, bundle x

time4tea · 03/08/2006 13:46

hello all, especially LittleFrog, I really sympathise. I'm now 10 and half weeks pg, I had scans at 7 and 9 weeks and saw my beanie with a heartbeat, but still can't feel quite over the denial feeling - nothing feels secure after the mc.

If its any consolation, I got pg this time the cycle after the ERPC, and no-one's said anything. Perhaps your GP is just a bit Eeyore-ish.

I think there are a few of us at this stage - WeeWillieWinkie? Caitlin'smummy? Bobbynog? so plenty of folk around....

caitlinsmummy · 03/08/2006 15:03

Hi all, thinking positive thoughts for baby esja!! Yeah now i am around 9 +5. But got ANOTHER scan tomorrow as had slight spotting AGAIN yesterday, so fed up with it all now, but got heartbeat last friday, so i am praying xx

HellKat · 04/08/2006 06:54

Caitlins- Good luck for today!!
Arabica- Awwwwww hun, here's hoping Esje gets the sucking reflex soon. katie's on a tube aswell (would'nt be if more nurse tried bottle feeding though).
Here's hoping the results are good for you. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hiya everyone else. Hugs & love to you all xxxxxxxxxxxx
