Hello all.. I feel sick...very sick...urrgghhh I woke up this morning retching and have come home from work as I feel so bad. I thought I might have been passed it but obviously not! I'm also so very hungry! Not nice to feel sick and hungry at the same time! I have eaten and managed to keep my 2 snacks so far down! A feat in itself I think! On a good note, I have my 20 week scan date - 23rd April, DH has decided that he doesn't want to know the baby's sex after all. Which I am secretley pleased about - I don't care what I have as long as it's a baby!!

This is your first isn't it Highlander? Although I had a 'bump' last time at 4 months, it was noticeable to anyone till about 5 months, so I wouldn't worry too much. Perhaps you will have a small bump all the way through? Couldn't hide my pregnancy this time if I wanted to - maternity clothes since 13 weeks!!!!!!

Hope all is well with you all

ja9 · 27/03/2004 19:47

hey jacksmumto1, i have my 20 week scan that day too so sorry you're still feeling crap tho'.

looking forward to my midwifes apt next tuesday as apparently will be able to hear baby's heartbeat.... apparently you can tell the sex of the baby from the heartrate... i don't really want to find out the sex, but am quite happy to speculate myself!!

Love to you all!

tillymint · 28/03/2004 00:14

Hi all
Glad to hear some of you are getting fatter. I thought I was the only telly tubby around. Gained a stone already at 17 weeks, but still carrying weight from dd2 (8 months old).
Distracted, I've got some maternity bits you can have (just pay for P&P) Not sure how summery they are. Have also got bits to sell (mainly Next last year, but size 16) Let me know.

Don't want to say it too loud, but my SPD has got better in last week. Didn't someone else claim that earlier? Did it stay away? Am still seeing osteopath every other week - just in case.

After seeing William aand Mary last week, I had a little brown show, so went to see GP for reassurance. Its great to hear that heartbeat.
My 20 week scan is on 21 April ( when I'm about 21/22weeks). Even though I've had two scans already, I can't wait.

jacksmumto1 · 28/03/2004 11:45

Hi all!

Tillymint - it was me! Yes my SPD eased - this last week or so I have noticed the aches and pains have increased BUT it's discomfort rather than actual pain. Can't decide whether it's due to hormones or if it's because the bump has risen and therefore putting less pressure on the pelvis at the moment. Long may it continue!!!

Despite the sickness being back... I am actually feeling better i.e. less tired (though still in bed and asleep by 9pm!!) and more energy to do things. If it wasn't for the rain, I'd be out n the garden and getting things ready for the bbq's I'm planning this summer!!!!

Hope everyone else is feeling good

niknik · 29/03/2004 20:39

Glad to hear everyone is 'fairly' well.

I have just been for my 16 week ante-natal check up for my bloods and listen to the heartbeat which was great.

Still haven't felt any movements - maybe still a bit early at 16.2 weeks

I also have my 20 week scan on the 23rd April!

We are definately not going to find out the sex, with it being our first I would rather wait for the suprise.

I have plucked up courage now to start looking at baby catalogues and have started picking out bits for the nursery, travel systems etc. I've got the 'babies r us' book and I am quite impressed by the range and prices.

Has anyone else started buying yet?

jacksmumto1 · 29/03/2004 22:29

Hi niknik, had my 16 week check today as well!

I don't think I felt movements first time round till about 19-20 weeks (can't quite remember!) but this time it was amazingly early from 9 weeks!! We have most things so don't need a great deal and will wait till we find out the sex at birth before we buy any baby clothes (as we have them for a boy but not a girl). However... I have bought a new pram and a crib (had a moses basket last time but can just see ds knocking it over in his eagerness!!).

Is anyone here rhesus negative??? The midwife was talking about the govt recommendation for precautionary (can't spell the word she used!!) anti-d injections at 28 and 34 weeks as well as at any sensitising events plus after birth (have you understood that? BUT I don't have to have it.... so confusing as to what is best I'm wondering whether to err on the side of caution and have everything..... Oh well...few weeks to decide!!!

hope all is well!

tillymint · 31/03/2004 01:43

I need a tattoo on my forehead saying
"I am not fat, I am pregnantg"

I am fed up of people looking at my size in disgust - They seem to assume that because my dd2 is only 8 months old, that my belly is the result of 'letting myself go@!!
"It's important to work at getting your figure back my dear" "Just hold your tummy in and stand tall" Bloody cheek! I nearly shouted out that I was 6 months pg (in fact only 4 mths, but felt better).
GGRrrrrrrrrrrrr. Maybe I could wear a badge. Or leave dd2 at home.
OK I feel better now!!

eyelash · 31/03/2004 09:13

Does anybody mind if I lurk here occassionally. I have a new due date of 30 September but ds1 was 11 days late and ds2 was 14 days late so feel I will still have an October baby.

I have been reading this thread for a while and so nice to remember from your posts what is just ahead.

dinny · 31/03/2004 12:28

Hi, Eyelash and everyone. Tillymint, have people really said that to you? Hope you punched them!!!

I'm feeling a LOT better in terms of sickness and moodiness. Look less like a pale ghost now. Had a scare as dd has chickenpox and I didn't know if I was immune - had blood test and I am, thank God! Found out the lovely male midwife who delivered dd1 is head of my homebirth team! Was speaking to him the other day (about chickenpox and felt quite emotional!) We have accepted an offer on our house so don't know where we'll be for the birth - may not have home birth if in rented accommodation! Bye, Dinny

tillymint · 31/03/2004 22:48

Oh dinny, we've just accepted an offer on our house too. Scarrrrey
We plan to leave the area, move somewhere with fresher air and lower prices. BUT with some of the tales of lack of ante/post natal care - we're going to rent locally so I use my local hoispital. They are v good, and commun ity midwives are super. We're looking to complete in June half term eeek. Will rent for 6months to give us a chance to find something we really like. Want this to be a final move.

dinny · 02/04/2004 13:33

Tillymint, I could have written your post! Moving to afford a bigger place, out of the city - but we too are going to rent for a while first to stay around the hospital we're booked at! You're not moving out of London too are you?

jacksmumto1 · 03/04/2004 16:57

Tillymint - you should have hit em! Rude obnoxious people! Also hope you and Dinny cope well with your house moves - good luck!

Hello eyelash - come and join us!! I may be having a august baby (possible elective cs) but am sticking with the september thread for now!!!

How is everyone doing? Counting down the days till my 20 week scan now... can't wait!!

Lolabelle · 03/04/2004 17:44

I may have an August baby also but as my due date was 31st August/1st September depending on doctor or website calculation i decided on thsi September thread!! I am now in maternity wear at 18 weeks and feel huge and was told by a shop assistanmt that i looked a lot further along then I actually was so now paranoid i am going to be a whale by the time I hit summer!! My friend is due next week and is so tiny from behind she barely looks pregnant and does every excerise regime allowed at this stage - why oh why am i such a lazy bugger??! I attempted to go swimming the other day and drobve straight past the leisure centre and visited a friend for tea and biscuits instead!

niknik · 03/04/2004 18:35

Hi everyone

Well I think I have felt the baby moving for the first time yesterday (17 weeks). We were at a family party and it was like wiggling all over the place. But today nothing so now I am paranoid again that something is wrong. Maybe it has exhausted itself.

All of my family (Aunties and Uncles) where really suprised when I said I was 4 months pregnant, said they couldn't tell so that really peeved me off.

I want a proper bump!

jacksmumto1 · 03/04/2004 20:59

Exciting feeling the baby move isn't it?! I wouldn't worry you haven't felt anything today - I have gaps of movement and assume that it is to do with the baby's position.

Just arrived home to find a letter for an urgent scan appointment tomorrow - it seems that the blood test for risk of spina bifida and downs was rather high... Am feeling nervous (almost in tears nervousness) but am trying hard not to worry.. wish me luck.. I will post with news..

niknik · 03/04/2004 22:39

Oh gosh Jacksmum poor, you what a horrible letter to land on your doorstep. Obviously your concerned, but I'm sure that everything will be OK and that it is just precautionary

Is DH able to come with you for support?

Of course fingers, toes and everything else crossed for you tommorrow.

Take care honey

Love Nicky

cazzybabs · 04/04/2004 12:32

jacksmumto1 don't worry there are all kinds of resons why it could be high other than the conditions it tests for according to my book. Wait and see what the scan shows.

My preganancy is a form-filling nitghtmare - this is the doctors revenge for me going late. 1st of all when I went they were meant to give me the hand held pregnancy notes but didn't and said of the midwife wioll give you those when I asked about them. The midwife said when she phoned to make an appointment - oh no you need to get them from the doctors. Went back to the doctors who said oh no we can't just give them out you will have to wait for your blood tests. Luckly the midwife had some spare, but was cross with the doctors. Anyway then I got my prescription you don't pay certificate form back because the bl**y doctor hadn't signed it. Then I phoned up the scan unit because I haven't had my 12 week scan yet (yes I am lucky and am supposed to have 2) and they said ohh we haven't got you on your books. Your doctors can't have sent the form off yet..so phoned the doctors again and oh we'll chase it up for you....

Oh well isn't really anyone's fault...I just have to wait and see. Although knowing my luck I'll turn up at the hospital in labour and they say no bed for you as no form from your doctors!!! At least the midwife knows I am pregnant.

highlander · 04/04/2004 16:31

jacksmum, so sorry to read about your letter. Hope everything goes OK.

I'm starting to feel awfully fat now, like I'm full all the time. Jeans are tight, but no obvious bump. I walked into work the other day and my friend exclaimed, 'your boobs are huge!' Can't say I'd noticed but now I'm paranoid!

Off to sunny Vancouver (at laaaast!) on Tues. DH in his wisdom has booked my ante-natal appt for the day after; I'll hardly ne the typical 2nd trimester picture of health
I think the amnio is booked for the week after so I'm dead nervous; more about seeing the sprog for the first time. No doubt I'll be on here in a gabbling reality check!

Hope everyone else is well.

M2T · 04/04/2004 16:43

Jacsmumto1 - Please please please don't get too scared by this. The leaflet I have about this blood test says that if it comes back high risk it is still highly unlikely there is anything wrong with the baby.

It's more likely to be your dates are slightly out... or a natural fluctuation. How old are you? The accuracy of this test is minimal of you are older than 26 (I think??).

I really don't see the need to offer this blood test, it causes SO much more worry than is ever warranted. When is your scan?

jacksmumto1 · 04/04/2004 20:58

Hi everyone - thanks for your messages of support. Had the scan this afternoon - all seems to be ok. The downs risk was low but the AFP risk was high. The doc said the spine looked fine so wasn't concerned about spina bifida; the head and brain looked fine so not concerned about that. He tried to see the abdomen and check a)cord attachment and b)for hernia's - couldn't get a clear picture but he wasn't concerned and also said that even if there was a hernia, it wasn't an emergency and they couldn't do anything till the baby was born. I have to have more checks at the 20 wk scan which is now the 26th not 23rd April when my consultant is "on" and they will then do another growth scan at 28 weeks to check growth (as sometimes high AFP levels means slower growth?) but for today, everything was fine, baby was smack on for dates and I don't need to worry. phew!

littlerach · 04/04/2004 21:41

What a relief, pleased it has put your mind at ease.xx

ja9 · 05/04/2004 00:19

Great news Jacksmumto1!!

Had apt with m/w today. Heard babys heart beat which was fab and a big relief because I, like many of you, am finding it really hard to believe that there is actually a baby inside me. I feel so blessed that things have progressed this far without any hiccups. It feels too good to be true. God is good!

niknik · 05/04/2004 21:22

I'm so pleased that everything looks well Jacksmum, you must be so relieved, and its great that they are going to keep such a close eye on you over the next few months.

Listening to the heartbeats great isn't it Ja9.

I have been to collect some maternity wear from Next today, it is such a dissapointment when only one of eight things I ordered is any good!

tillymint · 05/04/2004 23:46

Hi all,
Now dd1 is on her easter hols (THREE AND A HALF WEEKS!!!) my time on the computer is virtually nil - since everytime I switch on, she wants to play a game on cbeebies website. Given up now.

Glad to hear jacks' scan went well. My 20 week isn't 'til 20th April (at 21+weeks) Can't wait - even though I've had two already - just love that heart beat

I've not felt my baby move yet. Do you think having a fat belly and being overweight makes a difference? I'm 18 weeks now.

dinny, we're moving from 'silly money' surrey (inside M25) to hopefully, 'healthier air' hampshire. We keep driving down there on a sunday to explore new towns and villages - we seem to be getting ever closer to the coast!
This week we are mostly moving to Wickham. (PS Last week we were mostly moving to Petersfield) I'm sure we'll get it right eventually..

HAPPY EASTER IN CASE I CAN'T FIGHT OFF CLIFFORD THE BIG RED DOG!!!

Distracted · 06/04/2004 00:21

Hello all

Glad the news was good Jacksmumto1 (my midwife told me those bloods were only 60% accurate) - hopefully it's reassuring to have everything so thoroughly checked and know that they will keep checking this throughout your pregnancy.

Eyelash do keep with this thread, some of us are not far off your date (I'm only due 3 days earlier than you on 27/9 (or maybe even 29/9 according to my dating scan) and my last dd was 10 days late, so I'll more than likely have an October baby too).

I don't get onto mumsnet very often so there are large gaps in my postings, but it's nice to catch up every 10 days or so.

Tillysmum thanks for the offer of the maternity clothes - would it be easier to email me about this, as I don't get onto mumsnet too often? My email address is [email protected].

Funny that everyone is moving. We're moving too, but we're already rural Wiltshire and only moving down the road from our current house. We've exchanged contracts but don't have a completion date yet (new house, will get 2 weeks notice of completion, which is a bit stressful).

Well I finally plucked up courage to weigh myself again and I've put on 3/4 stone at 14 weeks! I have got a bump, looking at myself sideways in the mirror, but fully clothed just look fat (probably because I am) and my clothes are all far too tight, but think mat. clothes will still be too big. I'm sure my bump is too high as well, it kind of peaks above my belly button and I'm sure it should start off low down - probably is just fat!

Must exercise more, I have been trying to swim twice a week, but it's such hard work! Lolabelle can really sympathise with your attempt to go swimming
