26 now

How did you find Rhh ? I am having the most PITA pregnancy and they seem to be looking after me lovely, which is nice eh !

My midwife during labour was lovely. Unfortunately for me I gave birth at 5am and she clocked off at 7am. The midwife that took over from her just seemed to forget about me and leave me to it.

Also I was struggling with breastfeeding and both of them just shoved his face in my breast which just seemed to frigten him and make him even more reluctant to feed. They then said well as he hasn't fed much from you if you want to go home you'll have to give him formula cos we can't let you go home til he's had a feed. As a naive 17 year old I went along with it thinking I would be able to sort breastfeeding out when I was at home on my own with him. But once he'd had a bottle that was it the breast was too slow and frustrating for him. Ended up doing a mixture of attempting to feed him myself and expressing for 3 months.

It felt like I didn't really have the option of staying later than that afternoon so I gave him and gave him the formula so we could go home. If I could do it again I would stick to my guns and say no I'm not giving him formula and I would have had to stay til he'd fed from me.

I've since found out some babies don't feed straight away cos they are too tired. The worse thing you can do is try and make them feed (ie shoving their head in your breast) but you should stay topless with them lying on you and let them find your breast by themself. Eventually their instinct to breastfeed will kick in and you should trust that.

It was a shame none of the midwives could tell me this and reassure me about it though and instead just offered formula.

Very very old thread, but bumping this to see newer opinions and reviews of RRH. I am due 7th August and not really sure what to expect.

I'd be interested too. Am due Dec and under Russells Hall!

I am expecting a baby Due 24th April 2019 and I am currently thinking about having a waterbirth at Russel’s Hall. What is it like there? What are people’s opinions?

Mummykaz90 · 27/01/2019 19:27

I have had both my baby's at Russell hall. I can't fault the actual labour part of the experience as that was fantastic. But the aftercare was terrible I ended up staying in their days because my notes and bloods and yhings got lost or mixed up. I'm due to be having my 3rd baby their any time over next few weeks so hopefully be a better experience
