Wow what a blessing! They are both sleeping really well arent they? I have visions of babys sleeping for 2 or 3 hours at a time for some reason? Is dream feeding when you wake them up to feed instead of them waking you? My mom told me when I was a baby I used to demand a feed every 4 hours on the dot but my sister who was a bigger baby would sleep right through and even a bath wouldnt wake her up for a feed lol so in the end she let her sleep through and gave her last feed at 12 then she'd sleep till 7am.

Cheers for advice Diddle on tens machine am definately going to hire one next week.

bamboozleslover · 04/07/2006 16:19

BHM - google freedom tens machine. they are cheaper than the cost of hiring them.

when you give a dream feed you feed them while they are still asleep. you just have to make sure they are slightly raised and they won't get wind cos they are so relaxed.

sometimes i find changing him or bathing him does the trick but he usually only wakes up for a bit then goes back off again.

diddle · 05/07/2006 09:07

Bamboozlelover - I couldn't wake him up to feed him in the night, his belly is obviously full otherwise he'd wake himself. He is having 4oz's during the day, 6 bottles normally, sometimes 7. Every baby depending on their weight apparently will need a certain amount of milk, the key is to make sure they have enough of the milk during the day, then their body will only need a little during the night if any. apparently, although we're not on a strict routine at all, he seems to be getting plenty in the day.

We are also trying to introduce water to him as its so hot, but not so much that it fills him up.
How about you, how often are you feeding?

bamboozleslover · 05/07/2006 22:25

how much did joshua weigh? that's loads more than toby-jack. he only has 5 bottles and i struggle to get 3 ounces down him!that must be why the midwife wants me to wake him.

diddle · 07/07/2006 18:47

bamboozlelover - Josh was 8lb 15 at birth and was 9lb 4 on monday.

bamboozleslover · 07/07/2006 19:34

gosh! toby-jack was weighed on monday too and was still 4.5 ounces off his birth weight!

BigHotMama · 14/07/2006 15:45

Hi girls, how are baby Josh and Toby doing? bet they're growing by the day! Only 3 weeks left for me now and have broken up from work which is such a relief as was becoming a real effort to get up in the mornings!

diddle · 14/07/2006 17:51

BHM - wow that has come round quickly, only 3 weeks left. Josh is doing very well, yes growing loads he's constantly changing.

how are you feeling about the labour etc and being in hospital??

bamboozleslover · 15/07/2006 00:03

toby-jack still not doing well on the feeding side. doctor thinks it might be reflux, but i'm not convinced as no crying and he sleeps fine. he's still 2.5 ounces off birth weight at 3 weeks old. very sleepy, althoughy very alert the few times he is awake! also not weeing or pooing a lot so hope the medication the doctor gave him works else back to the hospital it is!

BigHotMama · 17/07/2006 15:45

Diddle, I'm not too scared about the birth yet as not sure what to expect but do know its going ot be very painful and just hoping I can get into the water as I'm sure that will keep me more relaxed as dont want to go into a state of panic. Got my Tens machine and hospital bag almost packed and ready to go. My bump hasnt dropped though so doesnt look I'll be early yet! Glad to hear Josh is getting bigger and changing, bet everyday is just such a joy isnt it?

Bamboozle, do you mean Toby is lower than his birth weight due to not feeding very well? AH bless hope you dont end up going back into hospital, could it be because he arrived early do you think? Hope he puts some weight on and at least he's not crying too much and sleeping well - sounds like a good thing?

bamboozleslover · 17/07/2006 19:48

well HV was concerned as most babies put their birth weight back on by 2 weeks and he's quite a way off yet. he seems to be feeding better this week though so fingers crossed. yes i am very glad he doesn't cry much but the over sleepiness is a bit concerning.

diddle · 21/07/2006 15:10

Have read the Stourbridge news today and it says that the prices for car parking at Russells Hall is being lowered as of the end of August i think. which is great, its not going as low as it was, but its got staggered prices for different hours you've been there.
Wish they'd done that sooner, DH spent a fortune while I was in Hospital for a week having Josh. Oh well.

BigHotMama · 25/07/2006 12:49

Just our luck about the parking! Why cant they do it at start of August?

Well girls, MW said baby's head is engaged so things looking good so far. Counting the days now and really hope I get to have my waterbirth. Any tips for having an early arrival? Tried sex, pineapple, curry and rasberry leaf tea so far and nowt happening? Maybe I'm just too impatient lol.

How are the boys doing then? I hope Toby is feeding better now Bamboo. Are you still breastfeeding?

bamboozleslover · 25/07/2006 22:27

my midwife told me every woman she had advised to take cohosh went into labour within 24 hrs. i was going to get some of this but as i was induced inever ended up having to.
i had to spend the night with toby-jack in the children's ward. the new charges are in place already. i can't remember exactly how much but its something like £2 for 1-2 hrs, £3 for 3-4 hrs, £4 for 4 hours, £5 for more than 4 hrs.

Littlefish · 26/07/2006 10:07

Bamboo - please check your breast feeding thread. If you are in Russells Hall with your ds, there is a community midwife you need to contact who should be able to support you with your breastfeeding.

diddle · 26/07/2006 16:01

bamboozleslover - is toby ok?
BHM - i can honestly say that nothing works for inducing labour, baby will come when its ready, make the most fo your last few days of pregnancy I miss it like crazy, miss having my little boy inside me, all protected. Pregnancy is so amazing and as much as i moaned about the last few weeks, i would do them all again. I miss my bump and being huge.

nappyaddict · 28/07/2006 05:01

hi bamboozleslover here .. changed my name!

BigHotMama · 02/08/2006 16:00

Ah Diddle, thats nice to hear and I have had a really good pregnancy but I'm just getting anxious now and keep thinking I'll never get to meet my baba. Cant believe it will be happening for me soon, I've got another 4 days till my EDD.
Hows you and baby Joshua doing?

Nappyaddict cant keep up with you and your new names lol, how is Toby doing now?

Anybody know how to work a M&P pramette? Trying to have a practise run and I'm getting very frustrated due to silly instructions which aren't very idiot proof and I cant close the damn thing properly and now when I've got it back into position the foot part is locked up pointing towards the ceiling? Oh christ what kind of mother am I going to be eh?

diddle · 08/08/2006 15:03

BHM - when are you due?? it must be soon?

diddle · 08/08/2006 15:03

have you delivered yet??

BigHotMama · 08/08/2006 16:32

Hi Diddle I was due yesterday but no signs of baba coming yet, seems far too content and happy so the MW says. I've got a sweep booked at 41 weeks then they'll induce me at 41+5 if still no baby. Am feeling quite good and not allowing myself to get down about it as I believe baba will come when its good and ready, but its hard when you get people texting and ringing all day everyday asking if any signs or twinges yet? I must have had about 20 texts a day for the past week and I know they only mean well but you sort of get sick of saying 'No still no signs yet'. Oh well I'm sure I'll have some news for you soon. (And am praying I get to have my waterbirth)

Hows little Josh doing?

diddle · 14/08/2006 14:08

bighotmama - wonder if you've popped yet, but i'm not gonna ask you because you're right its flippin annoying.
I know the feeling I was 1 1/2 weeks overdue when i went in for induction. I guess you're having your sweep today then, hopefully you won't have needed it.
My advice to you is dont go in to hope for induction expecting it to go like clockwork, i never expected my induction not to work, but it didn't and I was still in hospital 4 days later with no baby. Take it all as it comes, and rest as much as you can or you'll be exhausted.

thinking of you loads, at this very special time

nappyaddict · 16/08/2006 00:13

i know BHM - i get bored easily what can i say!!well finally toby-jack has decided he wants to eat more than properly. a few weeks ago he went to taking the recommended amount for his weight but now he's taking more than that i think, although its hard to tell cos he tends to go 5 or maybe 6 hours in between which is why i guess he has more than hes "supposed to."
just thought id warn you BHM incase your LO also doesn't decide to follow the norm and get back to birth weight in ten days or something stupid and they try scaring you with all sorts of tests. oh and don't trust nurses to convert weights properly. toby-jack was 3.3kg when he was born (7lb 4), we took him to the hospital at 19 days and he was weighed. we were told he was 3.3kg and this was 7lb 1. as i always pay more attention to weight of babies in pounds the 3.3kg didn't ring any bells until i was looking in his red book 2 weeks after. there was a load of panic cos at almost 3 weeks he was still not his birth weight but i know now he actually was!
i hate how the professionals think they know better than mothers instinct sometimes. toby-jack had to spend the night in hopsital cos he kept choking. during the night when we were both sleeping the nurse came in woke him and fed him cos he hadnt woken in 4 and a half hours. she also gave him warm milk after i had told them if you wake him for feeds he eats less in 24 hours cos he won't feed when he is sleepy than if you leave him to wake and then he guzzles down big feeds. i also told them he has his milk straight from the fridge or room temperature, but if you warm it he will fall asleep and leave half his feed. then they wonder why he only had 3oz as opposed to his usual 5. why do they think they know best on how to get babies to put on weight grrrrrrrr!! right my moans over now! hope everyone is ok and ive got my fingers and toby-jacks got his fingers and toes (i cant cross my toes!) crossed for a mini BHM!

nappyaddict · 16/08/2006 00:14

oh and i don't know how to do the M&P pramette sorry - but it does annoy me how unhelpful instructions are. we had a car seat and the instructions consisted of a load of stupid pictures - no words or nothing. that annoyed me especially when it is my babies safety i was guessing with.

BigHotMama · 17/08/2006 14:27

Well girls, I'm still here 10 days over and waiting to pop! No contractions or a show yet! Had a sweep on Monday which didn't work and now I'm booked in for induction on saturday morning at 8.30am. Really didnt expect to be doing it this way but hey as long as my baby is my arms soon I'll be too choked up with love and happiness to care about how I'm feeling right now. Just want to hide away from the world at the moment, hurts to walk, hurts to sleep and its dragging me down. Starting to worry about how long I'll be in hopsital now and if I'll end up having a CS which I really dont want. Am thinking of going to Asda later in a final attempt to start somehting off as am counting the hours until I'm induced aaaaaaaarrrrrrggggggghhhhhh!

Hope to be bearer of good news next time I'm on here!

Finally know how the M&P Pramette works now phew!
