Good morning

I'm a mum of 2 already and this little 'surprise' is due on 13/03/07. I teach in Stourbridge, West Midlands.

I'll be having this baby at Russels Hall Hospital in Dudley, hopefully by an elected section (2 very traumatic deliveries have brought me to this decision)

I'm brand new to mumsnet and I'm really looking forward to becomming a mum of 3!! lol

Have a great weekend everyone

annaspanna · 02/09/2006 14:13

Hey teaching mum. Welcome to mumsmet - I'm relatively new too. I'm due mid March with second baby too. Have you seen the ante-natal thread for MARCH NO2? Its just nice to see how other pregnancies are going when we're due.

I think this Russells Hall thread has kinda finished because the ladies who started it are with child now i think!! Still i always have a look a this thread being's as I'm from sunny Dudley!!

mumtodylan · 03/09/2006 13:59

hi i live nr stourbridge too and having baby number 2 at RHH, had number 1 at redditch, so not sure what to expect. is it true they have a midwife led unit there where you can stay in the one room for labour delivery and post-natal? i hope so!! due 31/01/07 btw x

annaspanna · 03/09/2006 14:35

Yes mumtodylan. It has a midwife led side and you stay in the room from statr to finish. My DS born 31/1/05 - weird how its your edd- I wanted water birth but complications meant emergency CS so i had a long stay.

There are rooms with en-suite showers and i was in one with a bath - after being moved- but you'd have to ask if this was free. (I prefer showers so didn't want it but was given!!) It was nice having the same room throughout but the downside i felt was that it was so lonely in after 8pm (no TV then as just opened so probly have tv now) & couldn't go to a day room to chat to other mums in fact you don't see anyone but the Midwifes occasionally. But as a second timer i wouldn't be bothered by this now as i know more of what to do with a baby. Was clueless first time. The other downer was the strict 2 visitors at a time including DP/DH which meant they'd be in the waiting room & you wouldn't know they were there. I would ask your DH/DP to arrange visitors to stagger. this won't be relevant if you're only in for a day mind you. I'm due March so i hope to have VBAC and only be in 6 hrs this time so none of the downers above would be relevant!!! But we'll see. It is defo a bonus not sharing a loo with other ladies when in labour & afterwards. The rooms are huge.Could fit four beds comfortably in each one with plenty space in between. All of them. Unless its changed since Jan 05.

nappyaddict · 06/09/2006 14:04

no the threads not finished .. still going strong its nice to keep in touch with mums in the area whether mums to be or mums that already are.

nappyaddict · 06/09/2006 15:30

there is a midwife led unit for "normal" labours and then there is the obsetric unit for more high risk labours. you are put in your own room from start to finish although if you are in the high risk side and they are busy you might go onto a ward with about 6 beds called triage until you are in established labour. each room is ensuite with a shower and i think one has a bath. there are also baths at the end of the high rish ward which i used during labour. the only thing i didn't like was that the store cupboard was sort of inside my room - they draw the curtain around though so no one can see you of course. there is a radio in every room but not a cd player or TV. also every room has a baby changing unit with bath etc and also there is a chair and a birthing ball. my room had a fan but i'm not sure if they all have these. the thing i didn't like was that my birthing partner was not allowed to be there outside visiting hours so when i was induced and nothing was happening they had to go away and be called when something was happening. however i got really upset over this and they made an exception - good job cos when they rang my mum to tell her things were progressing i'd ended up giving birth 15 minutes before she arrived so if they'd ahd their way i'd have ended up being alone!it was 2 visitors extra to the birthing partner though as far as i knew, not inclduing ..

nappyaddict · 06/09/2006 15:37

hey diddle and BHM - here is a link to a meetup you might be interested in.

and CONGRATS BHM. how is little jackson doing?

annaspanna · 06/09/2006 19:32

Hey nappyaddict! Sorry chuck - didn't realise it was an active thread. Mind you I've carried posting on it anyway!! You were in the same room that i was!! The one with the bath & store cupboard!! I wanted a shower room so i felt unlucky!! Glad they let 2 plus DS/DP now. And they have radios. Thats why i found it so hard in the evening it was so quiet. I haven't read all this thread - So are you a recent mum nappyaddict? Congratulations if so I'm expecting no 2 in March. Wonderered if you could tell me whereabouts you go for your scan & whether you can pay for extra photos?? Is it still tokens from a machine? I went to Wordsley for scans etc last time as Russells hall wasn't open during my ante-natal time?

nappyaddict · 06/09/2006 21:04

no mine had a shower. i was on the obsetric unit not the midwife led unit.

i went to the waiting room to watch TV cos i was so bored and then got told off cos theyt hought they'd lost me lol.

for your scan you go to womens outpatients. if you go to the maternity entrance its the first door on the left. you go right to the end of the corridor and thats where you get the scan done. they do still have tokens but i just gave my money to the woman doing the scan and i got 2. it cost £2.

i am a new mum - my little man toby-jack is 10 weeks old. he's only a day younger than diddle's little boy joshua.

annaspanna · 08/09/2006 13:36

Thanx for the directions & info about the scan place Nappyaddict. Yes i too was in the obstetric side in the end the very last Room with the bath. I thought you'd said you had a bath - ignore me - I must not have read your post properly.

Well Congratulations & welcome to Toby-Jack. Hope he's thriving and you are enjoying every minute of motherhood!! They grow so fast - make the most of him while he's still a baby. God I sound really old- but it is the truest cliche thats ever been said.

nappyaddict · 11/09/2006 18:16

how many children do you have anna and how old? i always wanted room 12 cos it was the biggest was free as well when i went in but felt too cheeky to ask for it!

annaspanna · 11/09/2006 19:24

My DS is only 19 months. Still seems like yesterday i bought him home from the hospItal tho. It was when the parking was at crisis point at Russells Hall & i was nearly run over by some impatient driver while i was hobbling over the pedestrian crossing with new baby to go home!!

I'm hoping this time i can be in the midwife side & have the waterbirth i wanted. It's doubtful tho because of Emergency CS & BP last time.

Anyway, hope you enjoy every minute of Toby-Jack. Take my advise and keep a diary of this time. You think you'll remember every detail but you don't & i regret not doing it now i've got another on the way. I would really love to see what happened & when. Even feeding times would be useful to me now!!!

nappyaddict · 12/09/2006 01:43

awww we shall have to have a russells hall meet up!!where abouts do you live anna?

i really wanted a waterbirth too, as did the other 2 girls on here - unfortunately we were all induced so couldn't.

been trying to keep track of all the things he does for the first time but i'm never really sure if he's actually done it or its just random - like i have no idea when he started properly smiling as i didn't realise til last week he's one of these babies you have to make smile - he doesn't do it of his own accord!

diddle · 17/09/2006 11:03

teaching mum,

i'm in wollaston, congrats on your pregnancy.

nappyaddict · 17/09/2006 14:58

teachingmum where do you teach?

annaspanna · 18/09/2006 14:43

Sorry nappyaddict - i lost this thread somehow. Just found it again. Had my scan.I'm due 23rd March which is later than i thought. Still didn't find the scan place easily, despite your excellent directions but i have an appalling sense of how to get around so i expected this!!! I'm from sunny Dudley BTW. Hope Toby-Jack is still keeping you amused!! Has the time gone slowly or quickly since he's been born do you think?

slalomsuki · 18/09/2006 15:01

Another RHH mum here. Actually I have done all three local hospitals New Cross, Wordsley and RHH in my time and also was an out patient at the Birmingham womens during all 3 of my pregancies.
Was induced with my third at RHH and found it very unpleasant, no private room for the 4 woemn whe were induced at the same time. We were all in together and left to moan and groan for 12 hours before one of us got moved to a private room. Once moved dd was born in 15 mins and I went home with her after 6 hours cause they told me I was going to get moved back to the 6 bed room again overnight. I was on the obstetric side.

The AN care was great, having had 2 previous prem babies I was consultant led....a very nice man called Mr Lewis who is head of Obs and Gynae there and makes you cups of tea during your appointment...well he did me cause I was familiar to him seeing him on a weekly basis from 4 months. I was scanned evry 2 weeks from 20 weeks and have some great free!!!! pics of dd and thought it was a vast improvement on Wordsley.....except for the dreaded parking.

I always tried to get the first AN appointment cause the car park was quieter at lunchtime

nappyaddict · 18/09/2006 23:31

it has gone far too quickly. my best friends brother has just had a baby - hes a week old now - and it makes me sad that toby isn't that little anymore although i also can't wait for him to start to sit up and talk and walk etc. i want the best of both worlds i think!

WeWishUAMerryXmasNANappyNewYr · 20/12/2006 03:02
