You're joking? So if I'm in labour for 48 hours like my mom was with me, it'll cost £10.00 to park! What a stinker!
Shock

TopBanana · 04/04/2006 13:56

Sorry I never replied to you I must have got distracted Blush
I've been twice, once for my dating scan and once for my booking in appointment. Parking was a nightmare but the hospital and staff seem nice. Not sure when I'll have a tour, not yet I guess.

diddle · 04/04/2006 14:55

its true bighotmama - i have my antenatal saturday and it will cost us £10.00 then too, because we're there for over 4 hours. bloody ridiculous.

BigHotMama · 04/04/2006 15:40

Its a joke isnt it? Let us know how you get on with the class. I dont think I'd stay awake for more than 1 hour session lol. I've got 3 night classes booked in for June. TopBanana, I think you may have to book in for the tour if your not already booked in for any of the classes yet as it is part of the class or a seperate thing if dont want the classes.

I am just being nosey and have read the posts so far, just wanted to say how fantastic the birthing pool is and how much it helped me to relax and cope with the pain. I am also a complete wuss about pain, paracetamol for the slightest twinge and have never had anything major before and was also worried. Think positive - every contraction is one more you have done and one closer to meeting your baby and if you need drugs then have them. You don't get a medal for a drug free birth! Once you're in established labour and you're having proper contractions that's it, the pain won't get worse with each one and you do get a short rest between each one (normally!). Also it is the best, best thing in the world having a baby that's why you'll all go back and do it again after these bumps have arrived.

BigHotMama · 05/04/2006 12:30

Ah lovelybird your post made me smile. I'm not worrying until the day I go into labour about giving birth, suppose its the just not knowing what the pain will be like that makes us first timers bit scared! Waterbirth's sound like they really ease the pain and help you to cope..did you give birth in the water or use it to help labour? (I'm very nosey too!) Grin

lovelybird · 07/04/2006 18:08

Hi Bighotmama,
I found the water really helped to relax me and get me comfortable, and it helped to speed up the dilation as I was more relaxed. It helped with the pain too I think, but by then I was so high on G&A I was a bit out of it. I would have given birth in the water too, but DS got stuck and I had to get out and have some help with that bit! I would really recommend it, and you can always get out and go for the hard stuff if you don't like it. When are you due?

MummyToToby · 08/04/2006 13:05

lovelybird do you know if you can deliver the placenta in the pool or not?

OP posts:
mumtodylan · 08/04/2006 16:11

hi i've got one little boy dylan who was born at redditch as russels hall wasn't open when i had him. me and dp are trying for number 2 and that will hopefully be a russels hall delivery. where abouts are you all? nice to see some local mums, and everything on here seems very positive about RH!

diddle · 10/04/2006 08:34

ok Ladies - have had my parentcraft class on saturday.
They do 3 levels of epidural, mobile, where you can walk around, then they can top it up to a slightly higher does where they recommend you sit down more so you don't fall down and then a stronger one where you're numb from the waist down.

The rooms are lovely, you get your own private room, most have showers, and the two that don't, have a bath instead.

The birthing pool looked good, you can't deliver the placenta in the pool, you have to get out for that.

I asked what the chances were of getting the pool as you cant book it. she said that water births tend to move quite quickly once you get to a certain point, and they are quite hands off during a waterbirth, and let you deliver the baby yourself, they just monitor you, you can have gas and air in the pool too. Once you've used the pool and placenta has been passed, they move you and baby back to your own room, so that someone else can use the pool.

Think i'll cross my legs and wait till its free Grin

diddle · 10/04/2006 08:35

mumtodylan - i'm in Wollaston

lovelybird · 10/04/2006 08:57

I think the bit about the water speeding things up was definately true for me, and the midwives are very hands off which I think is a good thing. They just let you get on with it, and chat to your other half!
Mumtodylan - how old is he? Where are you?Diddle - good to know about the mobile epidurals for future reference. We're in Wordsley.

mumtodylan · 10/04/2006 15:34

ds1 is now 22months..will be 2 in june, we are in Hagley, nr pedmore. me and dp are going to start ttc soon, and hoping to have next one at russels hall. i really want a water birth too as i wanted one with ds1 but he was back to back and ended up having epidural and forceps - ouch! not sure if i'll be able to get in at russels hall tho cos technically we're still in worcestershire, even tho we live 20 miles from worcester and 5 miles from russels hall?!

lovelybird · 10/04/2006 18:52

Ouch that sounds painful. It's mad that you may have to go so far away when RH is your closest hospital. Did you live there when you had Dylan? They may give you a choice. I used to work with someone who had the choice between wordsley or sandwell hosps when her children were born. We're also hoping to start TTC in the summer as we don't want a big age gap and our DS would be about 2 1/2 if we are successful. Here's hoping!

MummyToToby · 11/04/2006 23:26

lovelybird : just wondering what you wore for your waterbirth?and also as you ended up delivering out of the water did you have to get changed cos wouldn't you be all wet?sorry if my questions seem really stupid!!oh one last thing-did your waters break before you were in labour, cos i heard some places won't let you have a waterbirth is this is the case.

BHM and diddle : what are you planning to wear?

don't like the idea of being totally naked. i know a few people who have one vest tops, but was wondering about wearing a too big tshirt. don't know if it might get in the way, or make me too cold though.

OP posts:
diddle · 12/04/2006 09:03

I was planning on wearing either my tankini top, or nothing because it was so flippin hot in there i can see myself stripping off anyway. its not exactly the time to be shy is it.
Apparently the only thing that would stop me having one is if i'm induced, or go over my dates.

BigHotMama · 12/04/2006 11:29

Hi everyone, just got back from a lovely weekend away in Torquay as it was a birthday traet from DH, really nice to get away and chill by the sea.

MumtoDylan, I live in Tipton, and 'Dylan' is top of our boys names list at the moment, you got good taste girl!

Lovelybird, I'm due on 7th August! Seems ages away yet tho.

MummytoToby, I aint got clue what I'll wear, I know its gonna be hot hot hot in August, so cuz I'm a sweaty betty in the summer when I'm not pg I might have to strip, dont think I'll care to be honest when the pain is soo bad!

Good report on the class then Diddle? How many were in the class? I didnt even know there were diff types of epidural? Hoping it wont come to that for me, give me some G&A! Really hope the pool will be free when I go into labour or I'll have to try crossing me legs too ha!

My belly is getting very big now, people say i look 7 months instead of 5 months! Grrreat!

Good luck to you who are TTC hoping to hear some good news soon! Smile

diddle · 12/04/2006 14:45

bighotmama - glad you had a nice time away, you lucky thing. everyone tells me i look 9 months when i'm only 7, i've decided that i'm average and they're just used to me being by usual size.
There were about twelve couples at parentcraft, but it was all very informal and after the initial shyness we were all agreeing with one another about the whole process.

BigHotMama · 12/04/2006 15:43

Diddle, I think I'll be very giggly at the classes. Did you do the different exercises and positions for labour? That will crack me up! ha

diddle · 12/04/2006 16:00

nope ddn't do any of that. In the afternoon the midwife demonstrated some good positions for making the baby turn that we could do now in front of the tv, but she didn't make us do them, we just watched her, and she showed us good ways of using the birthing ball, but we didn't have to demo that either. we did have to sit there and tighten our pelvic floor muscles, the Men there must ahve thought we were crazy all sitting there exercising, but they could just see us sitting still Grin
Then the ladies lay down on the mats and did some relaxation, which was literally listening to soothing music with our eyes shut, while the midwife talked to us. So nothing embarrassing. not one giggle from any of us. think we were probably knackered.

BigHotMama · 12/04/2006 16:28

Hope I dont fall asleep then? I'm snoring like no-ones business at the moment! Haha lol at the men watching the women doing their Pelvic floor exercises! I must try and start doing some!

MummyToToby · 13/04/2006 22:21

bought a longish tightish tshirt to wear for the waterbirth - figured a loose one would float up around me and get in the way. duno if i'll keep it on lol. almost bought white, then i thought hmmm with all that blood floating around and it going see through, black is probably a better option!!
does anyone know if you have to provide a sieve to scoop stuff out or do they already have one?some people have told me you have to take your own, or clean the one they have cos they can't guarantee it being clean?!
also does anyone know if the pool has those relaxing twinkly lights and a music system cos i know some places have this to make it more relaxing.

OP posts:
MummyToToby · 15/04/2006 20:20

also does anyone know how long it takes to fill?

OP posts:
diddle · 18/04/2006 09:02

Have no idea how long it takes to fill, its probably about twice the size of a normal bath and deeper.

Grin love the sieve question, can't say i noticed a sieve, but i should imagine thats not what you need to pack in your hospital bag.
I was going to wear a t.shirt, but i always remember wearing a t'shirt in a swimming pool as a child and i just got cold once the t.shirt was wet.

BigHotMama · 18/04/2006 10:48

Hi girlies, I'm thinking of wearing a black vest top from H&M which is lycra fits over the bump with adjustable straps and will keep me cool from the August heat. Not heard about the sieve needed? Maybe that will get mentioned when we have to discuss our birthplan? Not too sure ont hat one!
Hope your all well x
