Sorry this is totally self indulgent and not very interesting for you guys, but would you mind casting a vote on the two options that dh and I have narrowed it down to for our expected ds (due April). Its between:

Scott Spencer Roberts
or
Spencer Scott Roberts

If you don't like either then do say...

Thanks

We like Finn but decided on Finley so he could have a choice when he's older to either be Finn or Finley - plus when i was younger i always knew when i was in trouble as i would be called by my full name rather than the abbreviation!
Not that i plan on him being troublesome it's just i know how well it worked on me!

i LOVE Freya but DP hates it - says he would rather eat shit! Pleasant - i have been trying to work on him about it but he's not budging - It's my absolute favourite girls name too!

elena2 · 05/01/2004 16:52

Love Freya, Spring Chicken. Get working on DP!
I liked Violet as a middle name when I was pg, but never found anyone else that agreed!

Finley's a great name for a boy, too.

SpringChicken · 05/01/2004 16:55

I will - got 6 months left so will keep plugging away - think i might make a subliminal tape and play it whilst he is asleep!

We usually agree on names too but he wont even think about it - just says no straight away!

zebra · 05/01/2004 17:08

I dislike Tayla and Freya -- ok, Freya is ok, but I really don't like Tayla... I am such a spoil-sport, aren't I?
-Z (who is not called Punky in real life, honest!)

SpringChicken · 05/01/2004 17:09

Think i'll just keep my names to myself in future - they don't seem to go down very well here!

When they birth announcement comes round i certainly wont be admitting i if we decide on Tayla! :0

Evansmum · 05/01/2004 17:37

Just overheard something that bears out suggestion re. trying shouting out names in your most common voice. Scene: Asda. Mother: real SAAAFF Londoner. Dialogue: something that sounded like 'SHANEEKWA GET YOUR A**E OVER HERE'! Poss spelling Shaniqua?

Demented · 05/01/2004 18:19

Springchicken, I love Freya, it's on my list of favourite girl's names. It often depends on your surname, I have a ridiculous surname and it is difficult choose names that would go.

Hayls · 05/01/2004 18:20

Just to add to this, I heard of somebody (admittedly through a friend of a friend) called Pocahontas. Can't imagine what that would be shortened to!
I shouldn't say anything though as mine's due in a couple of weeks (girl) and we still don't have a name!
Btw I prefer Spencer- good choice

udar · 05/01/2004 18:50

Our friend's little girl is Tayla and it is lovely and really suits her. It is a little more unusual too so she won't be one of many in her class which is always nice.

hana · 05/01/2004 18:58

SChicken -
love Freya, such a sweet name. Not no keen on Tayla, but what about Tallie? Kind of close to Tayla (well a bit) and still a bit unusual. It's fun thinking about names, isn't it? You'll probably come up with a big list and then go back to the first or second one you thought of.

Tinker · 05/01/2004 19:00

Hmm, have to agree, Tayla is bad. What about Talia (short for Natalia?)? There's an actress called Talia Shire, one of the Coppola clan.

My mum is called Violet

fio2 · 05/01/2004 19:05

i am a taylor...only by marriage, dont do it please!!!!!

but if you do decide to i will support you

bobthebaby · 05/01/2004 19:18

Freya is a brand of bread in NZ. Then again Milo is a brand of hot chocolate and I still think its a nice name. BTW I know I male Brook, I always want to ask his mum if he's babbling yet.

sibble · 05/01/2004 19:29

Agree you have to think of names in different contexts, Dh wanted to call Ds 'Elvis@!!!! said I couldn't see me over the park shouting 'Elvis get here now it's time to go home!!!!'
We settled for teh now rather common Jack

bobthebaby · 05/01/2004 19:51

If you shout "Jack", do 15 children all turn around?

marthamoo · 05/01/2004 19:59

re: Buffy Names (I'm hijacking the thread too, hmc, but it sounds like you've decided on Spencer!). Ds2 is Harry Alexander (Alexander Harris). I thought it was just me!

And my friend's little girl is Lilah (from Angel) which I think is absolutely gorgeous.

Heard a woman in WHSmith the other day say "get over here Harley!" to her daughter, was dying to ask if the surname was Davidson.

Worst ever: on, believe it or not, the ferry 'cross the Mersey, woman to daughter (broad Scouse accent) "Gerroverere, Marie-Antoinette, before I batter yer!"

marthamoo · 05/01/2004 20:00

Also know a little girl called Calla. Sorry, just makes me think of gas

melsy · 05/01/2004 20:29

Talia is actually an Israeli name. I didnt think it was short version of natalia!

Mog · 05/01/2004 20:32

I wanted Iona for a girl but dh thought even this was too unusual! We've got a Jack too but I've loved that name for years.

CountessDracula · 05/01/2004 21:08

What about Talya, like Tayla but a bit different! I have a friend called Thalia.

Sorry Jems, have to agree I don't much like Tayla.

Love Iona, Mog.

WSM · 05/01/2004 21:12

A friend of mine has a DD one week younger than my DD, she is called Tayla. Child and parents are lovely but the I really am not keen on the name.

zebra · 05/01/2004 21:16

I thought Talia meant 'comes at Christmas time' or so a mother to a Talia told me.
I think Iona is beautiful!
In the end, name your child something you like. They will make it their own, regardless of whatever we say.

GillW · 05/01/2004 22:08

Love Iona - but sods law says she'd end up marrying a Mr Garden or a Mr Kitchen or a Mr Ball or .....

Tinker · 05/01/2004 22:29

Ah, didn't know that about Talia - was guessing cos she's Italian/American
