Sorry this is totally self indulgent and not very interesting for you guys, but would you mind casting a vote on the two options that dh and I have narrowed it down to for our expected ds (due April). Its between:

Scott Spencer Roberts
or
Spencer Scott Roberts

If you don't like either then do say...

Thanks

I prefer Spencer too.

alohappychristmas · 19/12/2003 20:48

I really, really like my name. It was very unusual when I was younger, less so now as the daughter of a famous rock star has the same name. It has an ancient history and lots of heritage but wasn't common. I hope my ds likes his name all his life. It's a huge responsibility isn't it?

Linnet · 19/12/2003 21:47

Handle, I like Scott spencer best.

GeorginaA, my granny's name is Beatrice it was also a family name in our family.

We had a boys name and a girls name picked out months before I fell pregnant. I got to choose the boys name as I'd had one lined up since dd was born and Dh got to choose another girls name since he chose dd's name last time. Well, he didn't get to choose it he suggested one and I actually liked it so that saved lots of arguing, but I do have a back up name incase I go off his name while I'm pregnant, lol

sobernoel · 19/12/2003 23:01

Hmc - I agree that Spencer Scott flows off the tongue more easily.

Alohappychristmas - trying to guess your real name (don't expect you to confirm or deny, though)

Leah?

Or maybe:
Peaches
Scarlett
Kelly

deeno · 19/12/2003 23:25

Just wanted to say I prefer Spencer Scott. Spencer was one of our original names for if we have a boy, but now changed to Leo. We've agreed on Phoebe if its a girl. Agree with AHC - choosing the name is a huge responsibility. I think its about getting the right balance between not calling them a name which every child in the street turns round to when you shout them, and also it not being too unusual that they get the mickey taken out of them throughout life!

hoxtonchick · 19/12/2003 23:35

Aloha, is your name Lola? Sounds a bit like Aloha, & Madonna has one. I am very nosy!

SnowyZebra · 20/12/2003 08:41

I was given my mother's named on birth certificate (Elizabeth) and nicknamed Lisa in the family. Middle name Ann. My mother didn't like my middle name and asked me if she could change it when I was 5yo. I didn't like Lisa or Elizabeth and chose a TV character name when I was 8yo. When I said, "Why shouldn't be called what I want to be?" My mother was actually very sympathetic because she had fought her whole life to not be called Betty.

When I got married I had to get an AKA on the marriage certificate, but otherwise, all my official documents (passport, etc.) have my modern name on them.

So there you have it, if you didn't think I was eccentric before, that pretty much seals it!

As a 2nd twin somehow my dad never got a birth certificate, so had a terrible time getting a passport, etc. Now he has these documents they're precious to him so he doesn't have to go through bureacracy to ever replace them. I don't think name changing is all that difficult, really.

I prefer Spencer.

I know too many Scotts and don't really like any of them!
Scott's can get called Scottie, and that's horrid.
If Spencer gets shortned by his mates Spence isn't bad.

It just sounds a stronger, more manly, and altogether nicer name!

Good luck.

SpringChicken · 05/01/2004 16:16

When I was pg with ds1 I really really wanted Alfie (it was 3 years ago) cos its my Dads name and I loved it. Even still tempted when DS2 came along, but hub said no. Now really I'm quite glad what with Alfie Moon and the rise in popularity, still think it is a nice warm name though.

I'va always liked Tayla - i don't like the spelling but agreed with Dp that if one picked out the name then the other could decide on the spelling!

Like with Rhys - i really like it for a girl - got the major ump with Dp the other day as he didn't like the spelling so i told him that if i couldn't have it spelt that way then i wouldn't have it at all and would just call my baby a name i didn't even like - Ooooops - he soon changed his mind! !
We also like Dylan for a boy and Ellie for a girl - don't know whether it's a help or hindrance that we actually agree on names - the list just gets bigger and bigger.

SC, I like Connor, so does dh, one of the only ones we agree on!! I also like Spencer, Noah (DH would rather die!!) Tom, Finn.
For girls I like Matilda, Beatrix, Freya, Kirsty.
For dd we only had one name which we agreed on, fortunately she was a girl!!

SpringChicken · 05/01/2004 16:38

Did like it buit have just said it over and over and now it's started to sound funny! Hate it when that happens.
