Sorry this is totally self indulgent and not very interesting for you guys, but would you mind casting a vote on the two options that dh and I have narrowed it down to for our expected ds (due April). Its between:

Scott Spencer Roberts
or
Spencer Scott Roberts

If you don't like either then do say...

Thanks

Butting in on your thread girls, sorry - just very bored. Living in Cairo, due Monday but decided on names long ago. Love "Spencer" not so sure about the Scott though sorry. I was sold on Zak but apparently a Zak stole my husbands bike back in 1973 (he was 10) and under no circumstances were we allowed to call our son "Zak"!!! Finally decided on "Jake Benjeman" Good luck with the name choosing and the rest of the pregnancy

dot1 · 19/12/2003 12:02

We were going to call ds "Xander" but at the moment he's goes under the nickname 'B' (way too long and complicated for me to go into!) and "ALEXANDER!!!" when he's done something naughty! Hopefully when he gets older he'll turn into a Xander!

Not so keen on Zara -isn't that Princess Anne's daughter's name? - would give me a mental image of Princess Anne!

I love Madeleine, but dp won't let me have it!

jinglesaur · 19/12/2003 12:04

Isn't it terrible how one's views are coloured by one's childhood recollections?

I don't like Madeleine for the totally fatuous reason that there was a very drippy girl in my primary school called Madeleine. There are lots of other names that will always be coloured in the same way for me.

HappyHollyHulababy · 19/12/2003 12:10

HMC - prefer Spencer Scott

GT - we had chosen Oliver Joseph Michael if we'd have had a boy.

Twiglett - I like Isaac. I teach a Connor who has been pretty naughty recently.

fisil · 19/12/2003 12:23

Teachers have such a hard time chosing names. We both loved Catriona, but I asked for a couple of days to try and get the gum chewing obnoxious little out of my head (it was years since I'd taught her) and I just couldn't. In the end we opted for an unusual name that I've never taught, and very unlikely ever to do so (although I have now heard there's an eight year old with the same name in my borough ...)

Azure · 19/12/2003 12:47

For what it's worth, I think Spencer Roberts flows better than Scott Roberts, so would go with Spencer as the first name. Am impressed you're narrowing it down with 4 months still to go!

maretta · 19/12/2003 13:25

Don't know if it helps but bounty.com shows that 472 Spencers and 1914 Scotts have been born in the UK since Jan 2002.

This makes Spencer far more unusual - although neither are common. There are 14,520 Jacks!

dot1 · 19/12/2003 13:27

I know - Jack is such a common name, but we love it! It's all strong and no-nonsense! (and the only boy's name we can agree on...)

maretta · 19/12/2003 13:53

I agree, Jack's a lovely name. My sister was going to be Jack if she'd been a boy.

loofers · 19/12/2003 13:53

I like Spencer Scott best just think it flows better.
Hope you dont mind me asking hmc, but Im due in 3 weeks and if we have a boy would love to call him Brooke what do people think? most people Don't like it. please be honest

udar · 19/12/2003 14:00

I agree Spencer Scott Roberts.
It is nice that there aren't as many Spencer's as Scott's. Have either name got any significance to family or history etc?
DH and I agreed on our girls name about 3 years ago - even before getting married. Everytime we saw a name we liked we wrote it down so we had a list of preagreed potential names to start with. Boys names we have gone for derivatives from both of our mothers maiden names.
Due March/Apr as well, it's nice to have one less thing to worry about then isn't it.

Northerner · 19/12/2003 14:03

Loofers - I'm not too keen on Brooke I'm afraid, but don't be swayed by other people not liking it. Your child will suit any chosen name and after a few months no one will comment.

alohappychristmas · 19/12/2003 14:05

I don't know any boy Brookes, only girls eg Brooke Shields. That's not very helpful, is it?

udar · 19/12/2003 14:18

loofers I wasn't going to say our boys name but it is Brook (no e). So you get a vote from me! We also know a male Brook who is about 27ish. Not a very common name but I think Brooke with an e is the feminine version and no e is the masculine.

moosh · 19/12/2003 14:22

Me and dh are opposites any name I like, he doesn't, but he can't think of any sensible suggestions for me. So I have a short list for him to look at and if babe is born and he hasn't made a decision, I will choose one to suit the baby's face. I have in mind, Harvey, Leo, Toby, Daniel, Franklin, Max or Dominic. Ds is 4 and is called Alfie and we seemed to just agree on that straight away. (before Alfie Moon thank god!!). So we do have a few to choose from but he has said yuk to all of them but we'll have to wait and see. It will be one of these, I usually win

codswallop · 19/12/2003 14:25

DONT DO JACK

My Dad is Jack (aged 69) and I can tell you every man and his dog is called it now

CountessDingDongDrac · 19/12/2003 14:42

Dot1 my mate Alexander is called Lex, which I think is the nicest diminuative of the name!

Spencer reminds me of that weedy twit in Eastenders, sorry! Nice name though.

loofers · 19/12/2003 14:48

Thanks for that udar need to think on spelling then.
what does the 27 yr old think of his name. I know that brook is used in the states as a boys name.

jinglesaur · 19/12/2003 14:50

Does anybody actually like their own name, just out of interest?

(I don't like mine, although it's a very popular girl's name now.)

SilverZebra · 19/12/2003 14:53

I, ahem, chose my own name. So, yeah, I think I like it!
I think I chose DD's name wrong, though, keep kicking myself about that. Doesn't suit her.

XmasQuackers · 19/12/2003 16:36

Gladtidings, my DD is called Annabelle, couldn't be more perfect! We don't call her Annie though, it's either 'belle' or 'Rosie' as her second name is Rosie.
If I'm having a boy, I'll be really stuck!

jinglesaur · 19/12/2003 16:38

XmasQuackers - one of those is my name...

Zebra how did you chooose your own name (apart from Zebra I mean)?

XmasQuackers · 19/12/2003 20:02

You've got class then!!

popsie · 19/12/2003 20:13

zebra how did you choose?

slug · 19/12/2003 20:24

Countess, the sluglet is Alexandra, shortened to Lexi.

Scott is just a little bit too "Neighbours", just imagine Kylie whining "Awww, Scott..." .

Spencer is nice and authoritative
