I was going to join the other one but those luck ladies have had thier babies and are now talking all things newborn Envy.

So join me if you are fat and getting somewhat fed up!

I am 36+4 and a scan on Monday showed that DS is already weighing around 7lb 3 Shock. For that reason alone I'm hoping he puts in an appearance soon. Previous DC's have been 40+1, 39 and 39 and 7lb6, 8lb13 and 8lb12.5 so not so sure why this one is estimated to be so big!

my MW didn't say not to take it but she did say it can cause a lot of problems and not really be worth it so it should only be tried as a last resort before medical induction or c section etc.

she did recommend bromelain tablets, raspberry leaf tablets, evening primose oil tablets and lots of sex apparently

Commutinghell · 21/05/2012 11:23

Ooh I've never heard of bromelein tablets, will have a google Smile

jessebuni · 21/05/2012 11:26

its the enzyme thats in pineapple. basically youd have to eat like 8 fresh pineapples for them to start working but in herbal stores like holland and barratt you can get the enzyme in tablet form :)

McKayz · 21/05/2012 11:27

You apparently have to have sex 40 times before it will make a difference. I couldn't have that much sex and be able to walk!!

Kveta · 21/05/2012 11:33

did anyone hear Chris Evans on the radio this morning? his wife is due in a week, so he was asking for advice on ways to get the baby out ASAP! sitting on a washing machine in spin cycle was one of the suggestions :o as well as pineapple, of course.

I think I'm going to just carry on as I am, and hope baby decides when to put in an appearance. Can't be arsed with all the hassle of trying things which probably won't work, and getting my hopes dashed! Last time the only thing that worked was induction and forceps, so I am fully prepared for similar this time - anything less will be a bonus :o

jessebuni · 21/05/2012 11:40

last time i had sex in the morning then went out shopping in the xmas sales and bam into labour i went on my due date.

sex works for 2 reasons though, the hormone in the semen (which i assume is the part you'd need LOADS of to work) and the act itself plus orgasms release oxytocin which triggers contractions which IF you're already ready to go may well just set the whole thing going.

McKayz · 21/05/2012 11:42

Sex isn't an option for me with DH away. Will have to make do with pineapple, RLT and clary sage. Might have a curry or 2 as well as they're yummy.

SilverSage · 21/05/2012 11:44

I'm with you Kveta. I don't think any of it really makes a different if they're not ready to come out. So I'm happy to do the things I actually don't mind doing, like walking, gym ball, RLT etc. But I went to the shops yesterday to buy some clary sage oil, and was horrified to find that it was more than £9. I refuse to spend that on a TINY bottle of something that probably won't work! The same goes for bromelain tablets - too bloody expensive. I don't mind the RLT, as I actually quite like the taste, it's not too horrendously expensive, and last time I took it it definitely did something.

Kveta · 21/05/2012 11:47

yep, we're opting for infrequent sex when both DH and I are awake at the same time, and DS isn't... curry next week (with a side order of Tums), and some pineapple because I like it. baby will be here within the next 3 weeks (am being induced at 41 weeks if she isn't here yet), so I guess I should make the most of my last few days with DS, and enjoy nap times as much as possible :o

jessebuni · 21/05/2012 11:58

well none of it is going to be a miracle that magically sends you into labour. but things like raspberry leaf and evening primose etc. do also tone the uterus so if nothing else it can help you when your in labour but no i haven't brought the bromelain tablets because they were expensive and i haven't seen clary sage oil to know whether it's expensive or not but i'm more than happy to hop on the sex wagon and down the raspberry leaf in hopes of even if i dont have it early maybe at least it'll be on time,.

McKayz · 21/05/2012 12:00

Clary sage oil is about £2 on amazon. I think it was £3.49 for the oil and postage. Certainly not more than £4. It's a horrid smell but I'm so sick of being pregnant that I'll use it.

SwivelHips · 21/05/2012 12:30

Okay I think i'm the only one that won't be dragging DH into bed anytime soon. Am I the only one who's bits are swollen up and red raw? (Maybe its overuse of that bloody ball)

The only thing I've bought (and it was a tennar Blush) is something called Vital touch and its to calm me down during labour - midwife recommended it and I fall for most things.

Shock at your milk flow Jesse, I achieve a little dot and feel v proud!!

jessebuni · 21/05/2012 18:54

swivelhips - no it can be quite common for your bits to swell up and feel sore while you're pregnant! but i have some days where it is sore and others where it's fine so if sex helps get the baby out and it's free and keeps my partner happy too i may as well! i usually get braxton hicks afterwards for like half an hour so hopefully one of these days it WILL send me into labour!

and yes i have a lot of milk i did last time and have this time. it's not always a great thing though because my poor son had to guzzle it down so fast he got really bad wind until we realised that's what the problem was and i had to express off a bit before letting him tuck in to slow the flow a bit. but i did feel good being able to donate to the preemies in the neonatal unit whose mothers hadn't been able to produce as much milk because bonding with your baby is pretty difficult when they've got to stay in an incubator.

karatekimmi · 21/05/2012 19:46

Well first day of maternity leave done, and no sign! Did have a text off my mum telling me sex would help induce labour! I informed her we'd been trying but no luck! If anything flump has moved higher up! My nipples have started leaking too, so I'm hoping that's a good sign!

ladyparking · 22/05/2012 08:06

Sex, i feel so frumpy, but the thought of anything going IN there when all i want is OUT makes me weep! Mild erotica might help i guess, ill root around to see if DH has any sort of stash from the 80s :) Im going for lying around like a stoned sow avoiding anything that might disturb the happy build up of oxytocin to trigger labour, im not sure any of it actually works but it does help pass the time. Heatwave coming! That should cheer us up, id love tanned cheeks to set off those freshly born pics, i looked like id risen from the grave in my last lot :0
Stay in touch x

SwivelHips · 22/05/2012 11:07

Grin mild erotica

Keep up the good work Jesse and fingers crossed all the sex will bring you on - 40 deposits mind Wink

I'm also planning on spending a day in the garden. No sign of bump moving downwards either....

SilverSage · 22/05/2012 11:37

I've just got back from the longest walk I've been on since being pregnant. Although it wasn't that long, as my fat swollen feet start to throb if I'm on them for more than about half an hour. Doubt it'll bring on labour when she's only 1/5 engaged, but I thought it might at least help her to descend.

I'm feeling surprisingly energetic today, despite the worst night's sleep I've had in ages. I honestly think I must have got up to wee more than 20 times.

littlemissnormal · 22/05/2012 11:49

I took castor oil Sunday evening at 40+8, desperate not to go through induction again. It is singly the most vile thing I have ever swallowed. Within an hour I was projectile vomiting and 2 hours later my bowels opened like a tap!!!
However, contractions started at 4am and was fully dilated by 9.30. Baby would've been here by 10 if he hadn't been back to back and needed forceps and epidural cos he got stuck Sad
But all safe and that's what matters!
But I did get a bollocking off the midwife who said that pregnant women should not be allowed to buy castor oil and that it can cause bad contracting and nothing else if your body's not ready. Was minging, could no way take it again.

SwivelHips · 22/05/2012 11:59

Ooh congratulations little miss - first baby on the thread Smile - so happy for you. What time was baby born at?

Silver I'm also energetic hoovering and mopping the floors, my back killing me though, but I shall martyr on.

Doubt I'll be going down the castor oil route anytime soon...

Commutinghell · 22/05/2012 12:13

Ooh congratulations! I'm still tempted to try castor oil over medical induction, really pleased it worked for you and everyone safe even if it wasn't very pleasant. I'm walking again, pretty sure it doesn't work now! My dogs are loving all this walking though- glad someone is!

SilverSage · 22/05/2012 12:21

Wow, congratulations littlemiss. You're brave - I doubt I could even manage to swallow castor oil. Just the thought of it makes me feel sick!

McKayz · 22/05/2012 12:22

Congratulations LittleMiss

littlemissnormal · 22/05/2012 12:57

He was born at 2pm. It really is disgusting, I'm making sure the bottle is gone from my house before I get home!!

ladyparking · 22/05/2012 13:04

well done miss!!! an inspiration for us all of determination over, well, what sounds beyond disgusting! But you have your babba, gorgeous.
Energetic ladies, it is well documented you get a mad energy rush for a few days, and a huge appetite, followed by a day of zero energy, and then birth, so fingers crossed for you.....xxx

SwivelHips · 22/05/2012 13:07
Shock How does it fit if the huge appetite has been there for 9 months?
