MickeyTheShortOne however your DP feels during pregnancy, I am sure he will love his child. Could it be self preservation? My DH seems really happy about this pregnancy but every week I read about "what my baby is doing now" and he gets downright cross if I tell him about it! I think that maybe he doesn't want to think of it as that much of a 'person' yet, just in case. Becoming a parent can be scary, especially if it's unplanned (been there!), some people deal with that by hiding for while.

That said you need and deserve the right support from your partner, you would be well within reason to remind him of that, and that it's your body supporting the baby NOW, and you didn't make him concieve a child!

Whatever happens, you still have 6 whole months for him get used to the idea.

Yompingjo congrats on the scan.

Fjordmor your mother sounds very familiar!

Vcarroll It may be a little evil but I am secretly glad to not be the only one who can't get into her clothes anymore. I found Mothercare to be better than I expected. H&M ok, New Look is pants. All the maternity trousers in there are skinny fit! Pregnant pear shaped people cannot do 'skinny fit' (in fact, not pregnant me cannot do skinny fit!). I am Envy.

Hey.

Really want to catch up with everyone but will have a proper thorough read through tomorrow.

So exhausted, started new job, pretty tough, in the Emergency Management Unit. Busy, everyone sick, patients going to ITU, getting intubated, sick sick sick. Had kind of forgotten how 100mph hospital work is, on your feet all day, no lunch or break today so didn't eat between 6.30am and 9pm. Team seem nice. Feel really stupid and vulnerable. Told my seniors privately I was pregnant (and a few other people too, like Occupational Health and my GP) - and asked for them to make some concessions. I have hit a bureaucratic wall though - basically no one will agree to take me off the full rota. So night shifts, 12 days in a row at times, 14 hour days, etc. I was very upset about this yesterday but worked flat out today and I think, for now, I can manage. And then we'll see. I mean if I collapse I guess I collapse.

Still in most of my clothes but I do have a tiny little bump. I feel like a fraud. 15 and a half weeks.

I ordered my scrubs a size too big and I'm drowning in them. Everyone else looks so slick and professional in their dark blue scrubs and I look like a child/clown.

But seriously mates, there is no better thing for a pregnant girl to work in than scrubs and trainers. It is like working in your pyjamas. Lovely.

I feel a bit shellshocked but I have the easter weekend off, so will just try and gather my strength I suppose!

Promise I will catch up with you all soon. I had a very quick skim read. Congrats to the happy scans.

squidkid · 05/04/2012 21:57

ps. when I lie very very still I can sometimes (like now) feel a faint fluttery feeling in my tummy.. could it be baby moving or is it too early? (15 weeks)

Guccigirl79 · 05/04/2012 22:32

Hello ladies :)
Gave it a miss on here for a couple of days,as scan was today & I was taken over by blind panic & was freaking out!!!! However there was no need, all was fine tiddler was wriggling well even if the little bugger was upsidedown (!) saw heartbeat & hiccups. What a bloody miracle our bodies are!!! It all seems a bit more real now I have seen for myself roll on the 20wk scan so I we can find out the sex!!

Well done on your positve scan Yomping, isn't it a relief to finally see it?!

Squid my friend said she felt her DS very early on around 14wks so I guess it is possible to feel it now :)

My dates have been revised (just a little) am now 12+4 & due 14th oct now instead of 16th,so I was almost bob on with my dates!!!

jodidi · 05/04/2012 23:13

Squid I don't think 15 weeks is too early to be feeling fluttering type movements. I think I was about 17/18 weeks when I first definitely had movements with dd1, with dd2 it was a bit earlier around 14/15 weeks as I knew what they felt like. I am feeling the first faint flutterings now at around 12 weeks (still haven't had scan so still don't know for sure how far along I am). I only get them when I lie very still at night, so putting dd2 to bed is when I feel it. I really like it as it gives me hope that I'm not imagining it all, but then again it could be gas.

Yomping yay for wriggly baby. I really like the cake idea, I wish I could do something similar, but everyone already knows as I'm so rubbish at keeping secrets Blush

Fjord I think the up to 3 times bigger thing is for women who start off pretty small, those of us blessed with larger breasts in the first place do get bigger but not in those proportions. Engorgement was never a problem for me as my babies were feeding so often I didn't have time to get engorged. As for going back to work, you can still bf when you are working. I went back to work when dd2 was 6 months old and only just starting solids, she would eat solids in the day when I was at work and bf when I was at home. She never did get the hang of a bottle though, so all those hours I'd spent expressing for her were wasted (as was all the precious milk I'd collected).

Beeblebear · 06/04/2012 03:36

Well it seems like I am a little late on this today, but this is my public service announcement:

If your pants are tight and uncomfortable, and you may think it's too early, or people (mothers) have been telling you it's too early to need bigger clothes, or you have been thinking of just getting a size bigger in what you usually wear....

GO BUY SOME MATERNITY PANTS! You will not regret it.

I went to the mall today and after shopping the entire mall of regular stores, brokedown and went in the maternity store, tried on the pants, and in case you can't tell i'm sold!

That is all.

Kyyria · 06/04/2012 07:42

Morning all Smile

Off to Leeds for a couple of days as DH has got tickets to see Orbital tonight. Would normally stop with the in-laws but they still don't know about the bean (not telling until we've had the scan) so we're in a hotel but meeting them for lunch tomorrow. Hopefully can manage not to feel too sick and can get away with not drinking for the 2 hours we see them!

Not been feeling too bad recently, nausea seems to have retreated to low level, headaches seem to have abated but still feeling generally bleurgh! Couldn't face the lovely meal that DH made yesterday - bless, he looked so disappointed.

Counting down to the scan - not until a week on Monday. Feeling very much like a fraud at the moment and paranoid that there's nothing in there. Want to get it over and done with as the suspense is driving me nuts!

It may be a bit too early to be asking questions like this, but can anyone give me their thoughts on separate buggy/car seat compared with a travel system. The choice is overwhelming, they're all extremely similar, and to be honest the difficulty I'm having in making a decision is driving me to tears (stupid, I know). Why can't they make these things straight forward?

Hope all of you have a lovely weekend x

31, #1, 10+4

Midgetm · 06/04/2012 08:07

squid I think it is Possible. I think I have felt the bean flipping over about 3 times now. Only when sitting or lying down. I know what I am looking for and I am certain that is what is was. The doctor said I was wrong but being as he's never been pregnant I am not paying any attention to him. 15 weeks is a little early (normally 18 weeks with first) but not much, if you are slim and thin and in tune with your body

YompingJo · 06/04/2012 08:44

Aaah, thank you again for the congrats messages, you girls are really lovely [busmile] (wow, special Easter smilies!). I really look forward to checking in every day and seeing how everyone is getting on. Kyyria, I know exactly how you feel, I was so convinced that things weren't right that my first response on seeing a baby on the screen was a surprised "oh! it's a baby... and its moving!" much to the amusement of the sonographer. But take heart, as I did tried to, of the fact that no-one has had bad news at their 12-week scan.

Guccigirl79, yay, so pleased for you, and yes, it is amazing. I can't believe my body has manufactured something with a brain! Even if it does look a little like a little alien from a sci-fi film in some of the pictures.

Can I just lead a cheer for the small-boob brigade? I am actually delighted that my breasts will get bigger [bugrin] as they have never been much more than a (small) handful. I think I may be the only one on here who is feeling like this, lol.

Squid, I think that legally you are entitled to some concessions - I know pregnant teachers do not have to do playground duty or teach games, and must be allowed to sit down if they need to (ha! in a classroom??? teachers are the only ones who never do sit down in classrooms!) although I don't know at what stage of the pregnancy this entitlement kicks in, maybe someone else does? It's worth looking into though - I'm amazed that you're facing this problem inside the NHS though [bushock] - I would naively expect that they would have a better idea than most how to take care of pregnant workers!

Right, my main task for today is to begin the mammoth task of writing my class' annual reports. I procrastinate very badly when I'm meant to be writing these, so if you see me on here, please throw tomatoes at me and tell me to go away and get on with it.

Have a good day all :)

36, 14 weeks today Shock, DC1

MickeyTheShortOne · 06/04/2012 09:17

Congrats yomping on your scan, So happy for you!!
I shall also join that small boob brigade (well small compared to you girlies, i couldn't imagine size j breasts [bushock]

Anyone else working a full shift today? no.. just me? One day I'll get a real job and get bank holidays off [buangry]

Can I just say I'm LOVING the bunny smiles. Hahahahahahaha [bugrin]

YompingJo · 06/04/2012 10:27

Mickey, sympathy to you - I'm sort of working a full shift - have set myself a target of writing Literacy report comments for 13 children, have written myself a timetable for the day and everything! Currently ahead of schedule and feeling smug about it so rewarding myself with tea and biccies. It sucks having to work in the holidays though [busad]

SimplySoo · 06/04/2012 10:31

Hi there, i'm new to this thread. I'm 26, 10w+5, due date 28 Oct. my first pregnancy last autumn ended in missed miscarriage. I have horrible nausea all the time which is exhausting, yesterday I was sick twice! So, feeling simultaneously excited, tired and scared. Hello everyone!

SimplySoo · 06/04/2012 10:40

oh squidkid, you poor thing! I feel bad for being exhausted after my 9-5 office job! Not eating for your whole shift sounds horrible, take some snacks to put in your pocket?

GingerDoodle · 06/04/2012 11:19

Morning all. Thank goodness to for Easter break....the lie in this morning was a welcome relief. - Even if one of cats did decide to get stuck in the draw under the bed (the older ones have learnt to vertically jump up the headboard / wall gap (about 4 inches!) which is how they get under there in the first place but on no - she requires me to get our of bed and let her out!

Went to mama's and papa's yesterday and got my first maternity clothing - pair of jeans. The ladies were very helpful and despite them being a little baggy round the bum they are brilliant and at £28 didn't break the bank :)

DameFlatYouLent · 06/04/2012 12:19

Squid I think it's possible to feel movement too. With DS I started feeling fluttery movements at about 14 weeks - with this one at about 11, usually when lying in bed on my side.

Kyyria I think it's hard to say about buggies/travel systems etc as everyone has different needs. With DS we bought the full works, bells n whistles travel system, but ended up selling it as it was so bulky and I have a small car. I'm currently looking at doubles [bushock] but if I had my time again, I'd just go for something like a babyjogger city mini with the carseat adaptors and the carrycot. It's just so much cheaper, lighter, easier... But having said that, I have friends who love and still use their iCandy/bugaboo etc. Depends on your car, your house/flat, whether you're in town or in the country. I'd advise you to talk to people in shops and try things out, but really - don't think you need a full travel system because you really do not. They are unbelievably expensive!

Sorry, long rant there.

Thanks midgetm & fjordmor for your kind words. I was on a bit of a downer last night which culminated in a big melt-down on poor DH. I'm panicking a bit about coping with 2 DC, having had PND with DS, and no family support (fjordmor I can sympathise with the mother issues and parenting worries, as I have a mother with schizophrenia. I spend each day paranoid about transferring issues on to DS Sad). I guess it's good to talk about it now so we can look at putting support in place, and the budget required to achieve that (it would need to be a postnatal doula or something like that as I really have no useful family anywhere).

This is long enough, and I hear DS stirring...enjoy the long weekend all - I'll be mostly missing out on chocolate as sweet stuff makes me feel unbelievably sick [busad] - it's just so unfair!!

DameFlatYouLent · 06/04/2012 12:21

PS hi simplysoo and welcome!! Sorry you're feeling so sick but hopefully in some ways it's reassuring? Sending sticky bean vibes your way!

Midgetm · 06/04/2012 13:10

Afternoon bean bakers,

Dame personally I think the fact that you are already working out coping strategies for potential issues means you are already ahead of the game. you deserve the odd melt down. I keep fancying chocolate but it nearly always makes me feel like hurling too. No justice in this world.

Kyria I had a huge meltdown choosing travel systems etc and to be honest as soon as I had DD I realised how pointless and unnecessary most of them are. A car seat that is not too heavy is useful so you can carry them about in it into friends houses etc. A sling when they are small and then as soon as you can get them into a light weight buggy (can't beat a maclaren in my opinion). The best things i look for are weight and size big old buggies and prams in real life are just a pain in the arse. however I live in London, do a mixture of drivi g, walking and public transport and that is what suits my lifestyle. I ended up getting a pram that converted into a buggy in mamas and papas, hated it, totally pointless and couldn't wait to get rid of it and get a maclaren buggy.

welcome simplysue you are in good company with the pukey people here.

mickeytheshortone and yomping does sitting watching Tv with Dd count as a shift? Err... No guess it doesn't. Don't work too hard.

Just rather depressingly cleared space in my wardrobe for my big bird clothes and cleared out my collection of rather splendid and tiny dresses and shirts that already don't do up. Having got to 40 with no sign of DC2 I had gone rather crazy buying lovely clothes. Of course I am delighted to be pregnant but not delighted to pack my clothes away. Realistically at my age after another Child I may never get into a size 6 again. I may have a memorial service for them!

Also slipped into maternity pants yesterday and may never take them off again..

squidkid · 06/04/2012 14:01

Hello lovely ladies

Bit more relaxed and rested today. SO much to catch up on, not sure I'm going to be able to. Big congratulations to yomping and Guccigirl on their scans. And hugs to Mickey and yomping for being at work today... seemed like all my mates in the hospital were working nights over Easter, but I got away with it this time!

I'm just beginning to wrestle with maternity gear... I ordered my uniform (scrubs) a size up from my usual, and it's just massive and ridiculous. I bought some maternity tracky bottoms online (asos.com) again a size up and they arrived yesterday and they are 1. enormous - they actually don't stay up, and 2. about a foot too long for me. So I am sending them back, sigh. I also bought a pair of nice looking maternity jeans from ebay for only about £3, the brand name was jojobebe, but AGAIN I ordered a size up and I don't know if they will be too big too. I guess I didn't really believe that maternity clothes would give you enough space! Are people getting maternity clothes in their pre-pregnant sizes?

And then I feel guilty for buying maternity stuff anyway, because I can get into all my clothes, though my smaller jeans are on the tight side now. I mean I'm hardly a size 6 like midgetm but I don't seem to have changed greatly! I saw my boyfriend's work crowd out briefly after work yesterday in the pub and two of them said I wasn't showing at all.

I HAVE bought some "bump bands" and I find them ... comforting to wear? I can't really explain it. I don't really need them yet but I kind of like (particularly under scrubs) wearing something specifically for my belly. I have one on right now - tshirt, bump band, jeans.

Oh and I bought a swimming costume because I'm feeling a bit self conscious in a bikini now (I think I'd wear a bikini when I looked PREGNANT, but not just oddly thick round the middle!). That was my pre pregnancy size and it's got plenty more room to stretch, but it does fit ok.

What would other people recommend... don't want to spend lots of money but the secondhand thing is hard (I buy most of my clothes secondhand usually) when you're not even sure what size you are any more!

Zara1984 · 06/04/2012 14:02

Hi everyone! Haven't caught up in ages, but so pleased to read about all the positive scans!! Got 2 scans next week - my nuchal fold at the private clinic on Tues and then my regular 12 week one on Friday with the midwife (and my booking in appt at home with the midwife on Thurs)! DH is very excited to see the bean!

Flights back from the Antipodes were long, I swelled to manatee proportions! Working this week with jetlag and MS was vile. We are in Wales for Easter weekend though, hurrah!!

After my nuchal fold scan am going to tell my manager and team I'm preggers... Eek! Helps that my slightly nutso big boss is away for the next few weeks Grin perfect timing!!

Things I have discovered recently:

  • totally concur with what another poster said about maternity pants -JUST DO IT. Ignore annoying ppl who fit into their regular clothes until 36 weeks or drone nonsense Grin
  • I have to wear scarves all the time because men stare at my 16E and growing tits 24-7. I caught my boss looking at them yesterday (he doesn't know I'm pg yet). On the ferry to Wales today a big group of open-mouthed teen boys could barely conceal their semi lob-ons... Gross.
  • my emotional craziness is being met with fits of laughter by DH. Had a big blub before and he roared with laughter, told me I sounded incredibly ungrateful given that I'm having a baby in a first world country with a supportive husband and financial stability; I'm going to be a fantastic mother; chemicals are making me sound crazy and I should focus on more important things like how fortunate I am.....! Was a bit Shock but it made me feel better Grin fans of stiff medicine we are in this family...!

Hope you all have a lovely chicolately, non-vommy Easter Grin

First baby, 11 weeks today!

squidkid · 06/04/2012 14:10

Kyrria I am really confused by all the travel system stuff too. I'm going to have to buy a car seat for any car journeys I suppose, but I think I'm going to get a sling to start with and if I can't manage with that get a little buggy, but later, after the baby's born and I tried with the sling first. I live in a flat with stairs and right in the middle of town so not very keen on the idea of pushchairs/prams, they sound awkward. And I'd like to have my hands free.

People keep telling me babies are heavy etc, but I've always done all my shopping on foot and I'm fairly used to walking and carrying stuff.

Actually I didn't do my shopping on foot this morning because the market was shut, so I had to go to morrisons and buy overpriced food wrapped up in unnecessary plastic while hundreds of people shoved past me. Every time I go to a supermarket I remember why I hate them. I bought an Easter egg for my boyfriend, but I can't think of much worse than chocolate right now, if anyone gives me anything I'm donating it to boyfriend's big gob...

Midgetm · 06/04/2012 14:18

squid I always go for clothes in current size if they are proper maternity. I made the mistake of thinking I should get bigger things with DD and had items that were still too big when ready to pop. With your first there is an awkward clothes stage where maternity clothes hang but normal clothes uncomfortable but if you try mat clothes in your size you may find something ok. My stomach must have a good memory as its popped out good and proper despite thinking I had a pelvic floor and abs of steel. I must have only been kidding myself!

Zara welcome back. Don't envy you the jet lag/MS combo.

Right I must move arse of sofa and get it to the gym before I actually become part of the sofa. X

squidkid · 06/04/2012 14:24

Stay on the sofa! It's the place to be! I'm on mine with two cats asleep on my feet.

You are also titchy midgetm - my sister in law is a size 4-6 and 9 weeks at the mo (her 2nd) and has a proper bump. Not much space for it to go anywhere else I guess! She was back in her normal clothes a month after delivery last time, and she eats like shit and never exercises! Not that I hate her or anything, haha!

I don't have abs of steel to look at but I'm pretty fit - I possibly have abs of steel under a layer of other things :)

Thanks for the advice, I should stick to pre-preg size then, I just know how ridiculous and hormonal I am, I'd probably just burst into tears if something didn't fit me! I got all upset about those tracky bottoms yesterday and my boyfriend was like, squid pregnant or not you just aren't 5 foot 10, sorry.

Midgetm · 06/04/2012 14:58

I haven't left the house for nearly 48 hours. It's the gym or actually turning into a sloth. Although the sloth thing is tempting as at least I now have comfy elasticated trousers x

YompingJo · 06/04/2012 16:07

I've done 11 out of 13 report comments for today. It's SO BORING!!!!!!!!! I did break for cheesecake this afternoon but that has given me a sugar rush so I might need to double check the ones I wrote this afternoon to make sure they make sense!

I'm dreading shopping for maternity clothes. I don't have an actual baby bump yet, and most of my jeans are usually far too big on the waist as I have a tiny waist for my hips, so I'm really hoping that my jeans will accommodate a growing waist/stomach for a while yet. Not entirely sure what I'll do about work clothes, as I think that will be the more pressing issue. Wish I could teach in scrubs, ha ha. I'm off into town tomorrow for my hair to be paid some much needed attention so I'm going to brave the shops for a bit afterwards and see if I can find anything decent and cheap. I hate clothes shopping at the best of times, and I can't imagine pregnancy hormones and current flab situation are going to improve the experience [buhmm]

YompingJo · 06/04/2012 16:08

I should add that I have eaten a healthy breakfast and lunch too, I haven't solely eaten cheesecake today [bugrin][bugrin][bugrin]
