Ooh.. I pressed a button, oops.
...Continuing
I just don't understand them. At all. I don't get it. I don't get why they are so expensive. I think this might mean an ebay job.

On the plus side I have had multiple donations in the last three days, including my old baby blanket (which had been passed around the family but always saved for me cot mattresss, a car seat that can be used from 9mo, two microwave sterilsers, an electric steam sterliser, tommee tippee bottle set, multiple gorgeous baby clothes that are just so so so cute. DP got a bit freaked out when I went through it all but I think he is OK now. The funniest donation by far was the breast pump. Its the weirdest feeling ever!!!! Immature as we are we tried it on DP's manboob but he didn't feel anything.. Not enough flesh Wink
I hope to breastfeed but I'm not going to beat myself up if it doesn't work, so best to be prepared with bottles and sterilisers right?

The best donation by far is the Babybjorn carrier. Now I don't have to buy one. Hooray. Hooray for my family and friends and lovely neighbours!!!!

Oooo cross posted Katla, welcome!!
Lmao, 800 messages.. this is the fourth thread ;)

FjordMor · 07/05/2012 23:26

All caught up now. Sounds like everyone?s had productive weekends/bank holiday. It wasn?t a holiday here so business as usual?

londonlivvy - ouch ? sorry to hear it was early stage mastitis. Hope it?s feeling a bit better now. BTW ? was it you with the carpal tunnel syndrome? Mine?s been rubbish but I found these stretches online quite helpful. Also planning to hit H&M this week after a scope out last week ? lots of promising stuff :) Glad the house stuff is sorting itself out! :)

Yomping - great bra recommendations ? I?m still in a quandary about it all?

squid - sorry you?re having such a rotten time ? I hope you?re keeping your hours down now though and winning the battle to gain back time and eating time for baby squid :)

smileyhappymummy - I know what you mean about the knackered. However, at 18 weeks, I?m starting to feel more ?normal? (like I did before pregnancy) but only if I get enough sleep and I?m talking at least 8 hours. Otherwise I may as well be a zombie?

Beeblebear - Impressive haul! I admire your shopping nous. I?m crawling the secondhand pages here in Norway, bookmarking stuff hoping to grab a few bargains but I?m being frightfully disorganised about it!

GucciGirl - not everyone?s first choice but the Stokke Xplory is very height adjustable and my 6?2? boyfriend can steer it at waist height and at the touch of a button, it adjusts to my 5?8?. Also baby can be further up too. However, v expensive ? secondhand is the way to go unless you?re minted or have v generous ILs. We snaffled ours from Gumtree (eBay is also a good source). Also yes to you and MrsConfusion to the phelgmyness (yes, clearly that's not a word...). I have what feels like a permanent cold. I think the ?extra saliva? we produce also contributes to the fluid in the throat feeling. I?m always nearly choking on it if I breathe in too suddenly!

Zoeplankton - Grrrrrr how frustrating!

Katya - welcome. I feel almost exactly like you. My due date is around the 7th and I?m eagerly awaiting a midwife Doppler/20 wk scan as I?m totally starting to feel like there?s nothing in there! :)

Zara1984 Haul!!! :)

Mickey - I?m also hankering after a Baby Bjorn and have seen one reduced online due to a discontinued colour ? yay! :)

Not much other news from the mostly sunny fjords ? other than I?m chomping for my midwife and scan appts ? had DP phoning round furiously chasing them this afternoon. I?m turning into a mini tyrant! (well, my Norwegian?s not up to much?).

YompingJo · 08/05/2012 06:38

Yawn, morning all, back to work with meetings after school for the next 2 evenings.

But first, this morning, an appointment at the hospital as part of my vitamin D trial thingy. Weeing in a bottle at 6am all unco-ordinated is a challenge!

LisbethsOpposite, are you there? everything ok? Long time no post...

Zoeplankton · 08/05/2012 08:02

Hiya, Katla!

Confession time...

It's not 800 messages.

These forums cap out at 1000 messages, you see, and this is our fourth forum - so we're actually up to 3800 messages.

MrsConfusion · 08/05/2012 08:18

What busy bank hols you've all had! My mega-scary-meeting yesterday went OK, phew, now just(!) got rest of week to survive.
I had a brief burst of feeling like nyself yesterday, made me realise how low my batteries have been since Feb, so I foolishly met up with friends after work, turned into late night... And BINGO new symptom, searing heartburn at 4am, no more sleep for me! Feel knackered and sore this morning, definitely learnt my lesson (was lovely to see people though).
I'm very impressed with all the shopping you ladies have done, will have proper look tonight and start a 'needed' list, which is one step closer to actually shopping instead of spending day at work slowly undoing my trousers button by button... Blush

CWest30 · 08/05/2012 08:19

mrsconfusion I too am really phlegmy, esp in the mornings. It's this which is still making me gag every day (even at 14+2, will this ever end??)
I'm also waking up in a pool of drool every morning. Nice!
Awwwy mum bought us a Moses basket and stand at the weekend so starting to feel real now. I'm also suspecting that I'm beginning to feel flutters.....it may be too early but this is my second, what do people think? Got my first obstetrician appt in an hr so will see what she says
Have a happy day ladies Xx

milk · 08/05/2012 08:25

CWest30, I am now 19 weeks and the MS is easing off Grin I wasn't sick yesterday, and praying I won't be sick today as well :)

DameFlatYouLent · 08/05/2012 10:30

Hooray for MS easing, milk! Hope it goes away completely & for good.

And well done all the DIYers and shoppers - sounds like productive weekends all round. Not so much here - saw family on Sun which weirdly totally wiped me out - spent yesterday in a fog and today I still feel a bit rubbish. Nothing got done all weekend - DH isn't feeling brilliant either and he's usually the one who does stuff on weekends. Ah well, nice to veg a bit. I still haven't got a bloody dress for the wedding at the end of the month! And I'm still wearing the same old manky bras I've been wearing since DS was born. Time for a change.

I am feeling absolutely loads of movements. It feels like Noodle's doing backflips and chest bumps against me with maybe a Highland fling every now and then for good measure. I wonder if it's because my uterus is still so low? I'm 18w and still no bump, which is so weird 2nd time round. I definitely had a little bump by this time with DS, I remember people commenting on how small it was. The feeling of pressure in my pelvis is almost unbearable though so I still think my uterus is in the wrong place - starting to worry a bit. As soon as DS stops singing to himself and actually goes to sleep I'm going to call the MW and see what she says.

Oooh, silence upstairs...to the phone!

DameFlatYouLent · 08/05/2012 10:30

oh and welcome & congratulations katla!

GingerDoodle · 08/05/2012 10:32

Morning all.

Am 19+5 today and totally demotivated at work!! Going to be a long day at this rate.

Have posted a few posts this morning as I think baby descrided to try out a transverse lie for comfort last night lol o and I am constipated - nice!!

On other news we are going to look at prams this weekend, and I am car seat hunting after reading that they normally expire (good friends have their baby one but its 8 years old now so probably out of date!)

MickeyTheShortOne Prams / buggies etc are expensive! I guess I am a over it now as my folks are paying and I started off wanting a Stokke (£1000+) but have not been impressed enough to part with the cash! Even if its not my own! Anything less now seems pretty reasonable lol.

Have my scan booked on Monday (sooo impatient now) and have just ordered a medical grade doppler as my (not so cheap really) Boots one has too much background noise so that should arrive tomorrow and I shall report :)

GingerDoodle · 08/05/2012 10:33

Bah should have read 18+5 lol - getting ahead of myself!!! Don't think I can edit my post.

ShellWeDance · 08/05/2012 10:36

Hi ladies,

I'm going to join you if that's OK. Have been lurking for ages but it's taken a while for me to feel 'safe' with this pregnancy after a missed miscarriage last year. Figure I've got to take the plunge some time!

Am 16+4, 20 week scan on 6th June, first DC. Am also finishing up training to be a primary teacher, I don't do things by halves!

You're all so good with all your useful information, have learnt lots already!

Guccigirl79 · 08/05/2012 11:13

Welcome Katla & *ShallWeDance :)

My very lovely friend has asked if I'd like to buy her mamas and papas 'joolz' off her so been busy researching it etc so I asked how much she wanted for it (£375) but think I may have offended her somewhat as I was surprised at the amount being as it's second hand (she paid £800 for it 2 yrs ago) however, done a little more hunting around to see what second hand ones go for & she doesnt seem to be unreasonable asking what she's asking.I've text her to say I'm not in any way trying to knock her price down & it would be easier to have it to save me trawling round lol but no responce. How do I make it ok again I dont want to fall out over a bloody pram!! Am I totally overreacting??? Please someone talk me off my ledge!!!

londonlivvy · 08/05/2012 12:12

I just told my boss and he was absolutely LOVELY - even gave me a handshake and then decided to go for a hug too. I am astonished. Properly astonished. But also very relieved.

Fjordmor it was me that has carpal tunnel too - thanks for the stretches - hadn't seen that. Will give it a try. It's eased a bit this week which is great!

On the buggy front, I did ideally want one where baby faces you and had been overwhelmed by the choice. But then my sister offered me (free) their old Phil & Teds buggy and, frankly, free won it for me. DF wasn't that excited til I told him how much buggies go for and then he sounded a LOT more enthusiastic. They are incredibly over-priced, it's mad. I think if we hadn't had one from my sister I would totally have been going to ebay.

I have left DF to look at car seats. No doubt he'll leave it til Dday but I shall try and remain calm!

Midgetm · 08/05/2012 12:14

Welcome Shallwedance we are scan buddies - same date as mine.

CWest30 · 08/05/2012 12:37

Only just got back from my obstetrician appt, j have high blood pressure and a suspected water infection :-( they nearly kept me in for observation and blood tests but decided against it thank god! Came away with some tablets for the blood pressure and I've got to get it checked by the midwife once a week.
It's kind of thrown me a bit to be honest, I completely sailed through my 1st pregnancy with my son.....maybe that's why 4 people have told me today it could be a girl!!!! Anyone else suffering with blood pressure....I know its not pre eclampsia coz its too early but what does high blood pressure mean before 20 weeks? X

ShellWeDance · 08/05/2012 12:41

Thanks Midget, we can count down the days together! What time is yours? Mine's at 9.30 which is good because I won't have to spend the whole day waiting but last time I had an early scan and the baby was sleeping so I didn't get to see it wriggling around much. Will you find out?

Gucci I would have balked about the price too, it does sound like a lot but I guess prams are just ridiculously expensive. I'm sure your friend is just busy and will reply in a bit.

Midgetm · 08/05/2012 13:31

cwest I had high BP but not till the end (and it was the dreaded PE). They never gave me MEDS though as it developed later on. So not much help as to your circumstances. Good that they have picked it up early and mess should stop it getting out of hand. Kind of Knicks you a bit when it's not what you are expecting doesn't it?

Gucci personally I don't think any travel system is worth that much, even second hand. My favourite buggy I ever used was the trusty maclaren. But I am a skinflint. I would just say to your friend you had no idea the cost price of them and that you hope you didn't offend her with your reaction to the price. That should do it.

shallwedance my 12 week was at 9am and I had to drink lucozade and do pelvic tilts to get the baby to move, even got sent away for a walk. This time it is at 10.30 so hope it will be awake by then. not sure it will though as its not an early riser...

WantAnOrange · 08/05/2012 18:35

Hello ShallWeDance.

RE pushchairs, my travel system did great with DS and it cost £180. That was 6 years ago. I still have it and will probably use it for this baby. The only thing I am a bit dissapointed about is that it is not parent facing.

My friend's daughter has just outgrown her Ergo sling and she's selling to me. I'm very excited!

I'm having a lot of pain in my pelvis today, in my lower back and down my thighs. It's not a really bad pain, just constant. We took DS to the zoo yesturday and I think we walked to far.

I now have major indigestion to top it off! self inflicted

I can never keep up with you lovely ladies any more! I am so sorry...

After a rough weekend (mentally, not physically, though I'm not altogether enjoying being less fit on hikes/workouts/etc) I feel loads better today. Calm and trauma-free day at work where no one died, got to leave at 2pm to go to midwife (yay), sunshine, new midwife as have changed surgeries, new midwife lovely - competent friendly and professional, heard little squid's heartbeat again, got told small bump was nothing to worry about, went to the dentist for the first time in 12 years (!!!! so ashamed), no probs with teeth (so smug!!!)... made and ate huge bowl of mushroom courgette ham and olive pasta (yum), am now sipping tea and trying to catch up with you all before heading off to yoga. My favourite bit of yoga is where we lie on the floor and she says soothing things to us and I fall asleep.

Zoe - from days and days ago - you're not wrong - I am very conscious of it. Arranging a bit of counselling (dunno how to fit all this in, so exhausted) ... hoping it won't go any further. Need to up the relaxation/sex/fresh air/feet up bits of my life, I guess. Or try...

Kyyria · 08/05/2012 18:50

Evening ladies Smile

No doubt it will be an all nighter for me as I have coursework due in tomorrow and what with a combination of baby brain and procrastination I am struggling for motivation!! Confused

Must admit I'd been laughing about your bizarre dreams up to now as I really haven't had any. Woke up this morning clutching my boobs and dreading looking as I'd spent all night dreaming about having them fire off like custard water cannons!!! Shock Grin

mickeytheshortone I'm also experiencing the buggy nightmare. Don't know what I need, what the differences are (they all seem so similar to me) , where to start...and I'm certainly not paying over £350 for one!!! Was astonished at the price some of them sell for!!! Everytime I make my mind up over one (currently M&P Sola, and would buy an aton car seat to fit it) I then panic that it's the wrong decision and is there something better out there. I also worry that i'll buy it and then find out that it's crap!!

Looking forward to having our first weekend in ages with nothing to do Grin - may try and persuade DH that we need to finish clearing out the box room so that we can start turning it into a nursery!

WantAnOrange · 08/05/2012 19:00

MY BOOBS ARE LEAKING! AAARRRGGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!! Shock

squidkid · 08/05/2012 19:15

Sounds like there are lots of different stresses for people... really feel for those buying a house/moving at this time.

I'm a bit torn on the spending front.. I am a bit of magpie and like pretty things, but I also don't really like commercial stuff and adverts and big corporations, so I just buy a load of cheap unbranded stuff, or more expensive local stuff that supports little businesses I like. I've spent a lot of the weekend researching NAPPIES, wow my life is so cool now! I really want to go with reusables and if I works out I think I can get all the nappies I'll ever need for this baby and any subsequent ones for under £100, which is a lot of money saved to spend on ... other pretty things. I also really hate the idea of a pushchair, though I suppose I may end up getting one. I live in the city centre and my flat is up stairs and I walk everywhere and a sling just sounds SO much easier. I like the idea of being that close to the baby and having my hands free. The two people who are likely to take the baby out without me (boyfriend and mum) are keen on slings too. But people keep looking at me like I'm mental when I say I'm not going to buy a pushchair unless it becomes a struggle. I mean I'll be flexible if things don't work out but I don't see why I shouldn't try things the way that sounds appealing to me?

I have bought some maternity clothes (including new nun-like bras) but most of them from ebay (especially proud of my £1 jojobebemaman jeans, v comfy). I am very lucky in that I can wear scrubs to work so only have to buy casual stuff...

I bought some 3-6 month dungarees the other day, they were so cute. They were second hand from oxfam though. With lions on them. AWWW! Oxfam also had an adorable framed zebra picture which I bought, and I'm framing some cartoons from my favourite artist (they appear in local magazines so I have a backlog). I like personal or used stuff with a story.

Kyrria good luck with all your coursework... I am so glad I got my one exam this year out the way before all this happened. I took it 6 weeks pregnant and it's amazing I didn't just fall asleep half way through (6 hours is way too long for an exam anyway!) My brain has just turned to fluff and I find concentrating hard work.

Cwest try not to worry too much, they will keep an eye and if it stays raised they may put you on meds to keep it down - but a one-off doesn't really mean anything and it may just resolve. I'm sorry about the stress though.

Welcome Katla and Shallwedance- congratulations to you both.

Mickeytheshortone I live in fear of the breast pump! I am really up for breastfeeding but being milked sounds like no fun at all.... Confused

ps. I'm 20 weeks today. Next scan on Friday. Excited about that.

lisbethsopposite · 08/05/2012 20:14

Hi all,
Thanks Yomping, I've been prowling but by the time I get caught up in reading I am too tired to post.
My news is that I keep farting... oh the joys of it. DH looked at me oddly the other day. I assumed it would be a silent one but 'fraid not.

On the shopping front, DH and I both have good jobs and I shopped like a lunatic for DS. Totally unnecessary. Blush
Baby clothes come as 0-1 month, 1-3, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12. Each are in about 6cm increments. That's assuming you skip tiny baby. I always found baby outgrew clothes a month early (1-3 fit up to 2 months, 3-6 up to 5 etc). My DS was not tall, he was almost exactly 50% on the growth charts. A midwife told me that these clothes sizes do not allow for a nappy. Anyway this means that the average baby will have outgrown 3 wardrobes of clothes by the time they are 5 months. Baby never wore some of the stuff I bought, but the stuff was SOOO cute I couldn't resist.
Accept all freebies and you can see what you use later.

Gucci I haven't looked into it but I think 50% discount for 2nd hand is a bit cheeky. You are in effect paying the same amount as the original purchaser but she got to use it brand new and pristine and with a warranty. You have it worn and soiled and if the wheel falls off - too bad.
There are 2nd hand pram sales, not sure how to find them, but when you are finished with your pram you will be dead keen to see the back of it (they take up a lot of space) and 2nd hand bargains are to be had.
