Milk if you think you might need reassurance throughout, you might want to invest in a doppler which you can use all the way through and probably will cost less than a private scan. I've got a sonoline one which I'm loving - use it every few days to listen to the heartbeat and always reassures me.

LondonMrsS · 03/05/2012 15:35

Hi all, thanks for the advice re. SPD. A bit better today, so being very careful with what I do with my legs is helping. Will talk to my doc next week if it gets bad again.
Sorry for you guys midget and sedgers still suffering badly with ms, that's crappy. My saving advice during 1st trimester sickness was eat little and often, have snacks available wherever you are (just some sugary sweets or some nuts if you prefer savoury).
Glow is eluding me too. My skin has broken out like it used to when I was 14. Maybe we're all having girls- apparently they make you look and feel worse.
Haggis is the dopplar easy to use? I can see myself trying and failing to use it properly and convincing myself there is no heartbeat at least once a day. Maybe it's best for me to just assume everything is fine.
Can't wait to feel kicks!!!

HaggisNeepsTatties · 03/05/2012 15:39

London I deliberately didn't use it till I was 16 weeks for that reason, but like I say I've used it every few days since then, and have always found the heartbeat within a couple of minutes. I read on here somewhere the trick is to do it with a full bladder and use lots of ultrasound gel and that's worked for me. I suspect I won't feel the need to use it so much once I start feeling movement, but the gap between scans and midwife appointments seemed like forever and I'm a worrier!

MickeyTheShortOne · 03/05/2012 17:32

I'm another also wanting the second trimester glow, i'm still exhausted and now im having awful dizzy spells :( but on the plus side, I haven't cried for two days straight!!!! :o WIN.
Milk Have you tried travel bands? They might ease it.. I don't know much i'm afraid :(
Well ladies I', currently dancing in my FIL kitchen cooking a steak and ale pie for the lads and, and, and, millionaire shortbread for myself for pudding! :)

MickeyTheShortOne · 03/05/2012 17:33

Oh, and also laughing my head off at the cabbage comment, i'm with yomping!!!

YompingJo · 03/05/2012 17:43

I want to go to Mickey's FIL's for tea - millionaire shortbread, yum! I am officially having a night off tonight as just saw midwife and my blood pressure is higher than last time. Admittedly last time was in the morning and this time was after a manic day at school but it's still a good excuse to do no work at all tonight!

Heard heartbeat - odd mix of proud, freaked out and amazed. Still no movements felt. Come on baby, move your arse!

So sorry for milk and sedgers still putting up with MS. Maybe you'll have amazingly good babies as a reward, who sleep through the night straight away and everything?

Midgetm · 03/05/2012 18:17

Thanks for the replies about sickness. Went to the Dr to get BP and urine checked in advice of midwife. Turns out I have lots of ketones (but no protein or sugar) and may either just be severely dehydrated or have a UTI. So lots of fluids if I can keep anything down (so far just throw it all back up again). May just also be a bug or I could be one of the unlucky ones who's morning sickness doesn't know it's not supposed to start in the second trimester. Hoping it's a bug as couldn't face long like this. Sedgers and liege, don't know how you cope. More tests tomorrow and maybe IV fluids. Arse.

FjordMor · 03/05/2012 18:20

I've got a bit of glow - as in my skin looks better (but it may just be the soft Norwegian water), despite tiny breakouts on my chin - and my hair has stopped falling out in handfuls and started looking nicer, despite needing a cut and colour. Other than that, I have good days and bad days energy wise and still sporadically get 1st trim type symptoms. I'm only just really starting to feel more like I 'should' in 2nd trim since 17.5 weeks (but the early evening 'crash out' is still firmly in place).

Massive empathy to all those with bad MS. I second the 'carby snacks' advice. I used to keep a box of Ritz crackers or similar handy and these can sometimes fend off the nausea waves when they start.

milk - I have days like that. Have contemplated a doppler or a private scan but have now just decided to be brave and patient Hmm and wait until my scan date comes through (I'm also broke Sad). If the scan's longer than 2 weeks time though I expect I'll cave...

Having a good giggle at the cabbage leaves - it may well work - cabbage has lots of healing properties. I wouldn't be able to do it...cabbage is one of my major cravings at the moment ...I'd just have to eat it Blush. Also craving cucumber & I'm back on fishy things again. On the subject of cravings, Midgetm, I've finally 'gone over to the iced side' - ice cold orange juice is my main craving and also left the supermarket today with armfuls of various ice pops and ice lollies Blush. Now just have to consume them before the DSDs find them Wink. Ooh yes...right...might have one now...

Smorgs · 03/05/2012 18:25

Hello ladies, sorry it's been a while since I've been on here but I've been away loads recently. A friend of DH's told him we should 'do everything you want to do now before the baby arrives because life will never be the same again soon'. So we've been away every weekend since the end of March and the next two as well... it's very sweet of him but I'm so exhausted Confused

Had a rather odd experience the beginning of this month. We've had a ski holiday booked for ages (I know I shouldn't really be skiing, but it's my thing and I love it so much). Anyway, the snow was great so went a bit hardcore one day and then totally flaked out on a lift at 3,000m. It was packed so I got too hot, but suddenly my vision became blurry, felt really sick, so hot I was drenched in sweat in seconds and very queasy. Anyway I managed to make it to the top and have a rest and cool down. We concluded that I had not drunk enough water and had just overdone it.
Now, I'm not one to panic but that almost did it for me. I mentioned to DH (who up until that point wasn't too concerned) that overheating can cause brain damage in babies and he completely panicked and started Googling 'dangers of overheating in pregnancy'. I don't need to explain to you the kind of sites he found. We know Google is no friend of the pregnant woman! Turns out it's also no friend of the expectant father. Anyway, things seem fine and I have (tried to) take it easy since then.

In other news, I have a (very small) bump! Really I just look a bit of a porker, but I can feel a slightly harder swelling at the bottom of my tummy. Really pops out when I have eaten though! I went straight out and bought maternity leggings, but they keep falling down so it's obv. not really big enough to justify them Blush

I have read through as much as I can to catch up with the news, but as I haven't been on in ages it's taking a while - so sorry to hear that some of you are still suffering with MS. I am also waiting for the 'glow' - and yes LondonMrsS my skin resembles my 14-year-old pizza face.

HaggisNeepsTatties · 03/05/2012 18:35

I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering from a teenager's skin! I didn't even get spots when I was younger, but now I've just erupted - especially on my cheeks!

MickeyTheShortOne · 03/05/2012 19:04

if anyone fancies a giggle - think my dog is hungry...

Velo · 03/05/2012 20:11

I'm just catching up - hot nipples? I was going to ask if anyone has cold ones!! No matter what I wear as soon as there is a bit of a cool breeze my nips start to feel frozen (guess its just me then). On the bra front - I figured that my chest was going to continue to expand so bought the most basic non-wired bra's I could find in M&S (now a 38 E) - but really comfortable. Liege hope you manage to solve the creche problem (I think we're both in Belgium). I told DH to sleep with the creche owner if it meant we could get a place (and yes, people must book these things as soon as they start even thinking about getting pregnant).

As for the glow - no, I'm not glowing. Just getting rounder and rounder - no little bump for me. I think I'm going to resemble a Mr.Bump by the time 40 weeks are up!

Smorgs - hope you're feeling a bit calmer now. It's kind of hard to judge what 'too much' is before it happens! Hope you have some restful weekends coming up.

And finally - my 20 week scan is on the 22nd of May.

squidkid · 03/05/2012 20:21

er... I completely failed to catch up yesterday didn't I... just kind of fell asleep instead...

Well other than being wiped-out-tired I am doing ok... work is busy and stressful but I told my immediate team and they were really lovely... said "good!! that's how it should be!!" when I said I was not working nights and weekends any more, and were just generally really nice. This is the other junior doctors, and a consultant I work with a lot. They then said I was tiny and not showing at all and they had no idea and when I said sorry if I've been anxious/tired/stupid/not working quickly enough/nearly fainting a lot they said they hadn't noticed. They might just have been being nice.

In baby news, I still barely have a bump. I think this is a good thing. I don't know. Baby is kicking all the time. It's so wonderful. At least 5 or 6 times a day I get 20 minutes of it. I don't know how often you get to feel it further on?

I am suffering quite frequently from nearly fainting - I don't know what that's about. I am drinking gallons, I just cart a bottle of water about the ward I don't care what it looks like. I don't get time to snack, but I am eating 3 times a day now (however busy it is) so I think I am eating enough. And I'm getting palpitations at times, and I get nervous and count my pulse, and it's like 130 at times. Then it calms down. I have checked my blood pressure and dipped my urine at work, what a loser!!! They were ok though. Haven't quite gone as far as asking one of the nurses to whip off a quick ECG so I can check it.......one of my mates suggested that!! I suspect it's just bouts of anxiety+pregnancy really. Emergency medicine is a bit stressful.

I had to change midwives cause I've changed surgeries (long boring story)- new midwife sounds LOVELY and wants to meet me specially even though I'm not due another appt till 25 weeks. It made me feel very looked after and special :) And I also have my 20 week scan next week. Am I the first? We still haven't decided whether to find out the gender or not!!

Boy has been playing football/ more football/ out watching snooker/ out drinking with old mates literally every night this week. I am terribly lonely, bit too knackered to drag myself out to see someone else (I get home around 7pm, and then I have to cook) and I haven't had sex since the weekend. So ... he better be nice to me at the weekend!! I want to go for a (mini) hike, get some fresh air in my tired lungs.

So that's me. Now for all of you :)

Angelico · 03/05/2012 20:21

Hey peeps. Reading and running. Been lying low due to cramping and more spotting. 17+6 but baby measuring 19+2. Big scan two weeks tomorrow (18th) when in theory I'll be exactly 20 weeks.

Fed up being stressed out. Totally agree with the 'wish I could have a few days off pregnancy then pop bean back in' sentiments.

Love to all of you x

DameFlatYouLent · 03/05/2012 20:23

milk, any advice on double buggies? I'm looking too - DS will be 23m when this one's born! I remember with DS suddenly not feeling pregnant for a while after the 12 wk scan - totally freaked me out. Everything will be fine, don't panic.

smorgs could your "episode" up the mountain be to do with high altitude and oxygen? I've heard that can be tricky when pregnant. I think short holidays when pregnant are fine at altitude but the lack of oxygen has a more obvious effect for some reason.

mickey I keep having to sit down abruptly at work - nearly passed out twice today alone. I'm still waiting for the 2nd trimester glow too Sad My eyes are glowing - red, mostly (bloodshot due to extreme knackeredness)

Pleased to report that we got to the end of the day with both DS and my Dad intact...phew. I'm less intact - couldn't sleep at all last night, and I'm a zombie today. Work was tough. Feet up now and bed soon, ready to fight another day tomorrow Hmm

squidkid · 03/05/2012 20:37

Poor milk and sedgers. Really feels like morning sickness should be long behind us eh? Really feeling for you. And for midgetm, really hope you manage to drink a bit and don't end up in hospital, you poor poor thing. And even more thoughts for Emmie, you have to spend the WHOLE PREGNANCY in bed?? My god, are you ok? Do you work? I would actually go crazy. Oh that's not very helpful... I will try and think of some good things to do from bed, some good book/film recommendations or something!

My boobs have calmed down and my skin is fine so I'm feeling like I've got off light now! Though the dizzy/fainting thing is crap.

Zara I also go to a yoga pregnancy class and love it, though I have the opposite thing of I'm the only one there without much of a bump at all, which was ok when I was 15 weeks but now I feel I should be more impressive! I love the breathing /relaxing... so good for me. And nice to meet preggers girls. So so weirdly, I met an old flatmate who I hadn't seen for about a decade whose due date is one week after mine! She was leaving the early yoga class as I came for the later one. It was just mental. We are going to have a big catch up.

Bit shocked at people looking at nurseries. I live in a bit of a poor area (I love it, it's friendly and convenient and striking and full of character and history, but yeah, not affluent) so I reckon it will be alright though!

MIckey thanks for asking after me! You're very sweet. Your tea sounds amazing, well jealous!

Fjordmor :( at your nightmare. I had one last night where they found out I had a heart defect and I had to have a caesarian at 28 weeks and the baby was on NICU for months. :( :( :( Why can't I have nice dreams? Boyfriend died in another dream a few days ago. Obviously I'm feeling a bit vulnerable...

Angelico Thinking of you. Rest up. xxx

There are so many more people to catch up with... sorry for those I've missed out!!

Beeblebear · 03/05/2012 22:50

Well - I'll catch up on all the goings on when I get home... But I just need a bit of MN stress relieft at the moment

Work is driving me bonkers today, and I feel like a delicate flower! I have been set off in tears 3 times this afternoon about stupid little things. Everyone here is really grumpy today and is being very curt with their words. I've been so busy today that I havn't gotten anything done. I'm just feeling overwhelmed and know I'm going to miss deadlines, just made a $350 screw up and had to fess up to the boss.

Good thing I can blame the nose blowing and watery eyes on this darn cold. I think my immune system has been compromized and is allowing my hormoness to take over.

:(

LoopyLa · 04/05/2012 07:23

Wow I just can't keep up with everyone! Confused

Nowt much to say here but Smorgs my mum lived in France when she was pregnant with my brother & I and she skied right up to 36 wks (and had frequent soft cheese & wine!!) with both of us!

Got a week off work after today and just can't wait! While my nausea has abated, I've also got a pizza face & permanently knackered and wonder if the 2nd trimester bloom is just a load of old bollucks fairy tale?!! Hmm

Only 22 weeks of work left to go tho!! Haha! Grin

Anyone else feeling Envy at baby flutterings & movements? I want to feel them too!!

Midgetm · 04/05/2012 07:32

I am now bleeding. Sickness appears to have been a bug as DD throwing up too now. Bleeding bad. Going to try and decide if a&e or EPU best route. Please cross everything for me. Worried beyond belief.

londonlivvy · 04/05/2012 07:43

Oh midget I'm sorry you feel so awful. Do get down to A&E or EPU as soon as you can just to be on the safe side. If nothing else it sounds like you're dehydrated so they can help with that. Look after yourself. Crossing everything for you. Xx

milk · 04/05/2012 07:46

Thank everyone for all your kind words/useful suggestions :)

DameFlatYouLent, loads of threads in the pushchair section at the moment regarding double prams :)

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pushchair_chat

I really like P&T Explorer or Vibe, however DS hates facing away from me as he loves talking so I think I'll probably go for the Baby Jogger City Select- although I dislike how long it is :(

milk · 04/05/2012 07:49

I am feeling less depressed today, I guess that is due to the Bank Holiday weekend coming up, so DH can look after DS while I sleep Grin

Kyyria · 04/05/2012 07:54

Fingers crossed for you midget - sending hugs x

milk · 04/05/2012 08:01

Sorry Midgetm I missed your post :( I hope you are alright!

LondonMrsS · 04/05/2012 09:34

Good luck midget. Hope everything's ok.
