Yomping i am hoping to keep it to myself for at least another month but it will be a minor miracle if I achieve this. Neat low down bump spreading to under my rib cage but people are STILL not noticing. I think they think I have just let myself go and I am dressing very cunningly to disguise it. Getting lots of leg out so doesn't look like I have gained weight - trying to distract them....

Kyria Good luck with the scan.

Squid Sounds to me like you are ddoing all the right things to look after little squid kid. You can but try and in the meantime making sure the little things (like food!) get taken care of - I know you will find your way through. You are legally and morally entitled to reasonable adjustments that keep the quids safe.

Fjord I offered to sort your Mum, shall I start heading over to Norway to sort out them kids? Teenagers think the world revolves around them but can also get eaily distracted by the next drams. I turn up, start causing a scene as i diversionary tactic?

GucciGirl I actually hated you last night as I laid in bed craving a lemonade ice lolly but was too tired to go and get one. I best stock up today....

And forgot to say as last post from my phone Orange welcome - glad you are now posting not lurking. I started off this pregnancy aneamic and it is well worth checking out. I can tell when I am as I get really cold hands and feet and pins and needles if I hold my hands up in the air. The combination or iron and pregnacare is a bad one for the constipation but always works really quickly for me.

Totally knackered after a late night at the football last night. Also another late night on Wednesday when we play Barcelona. Like you Squid I can only cope with about one outing a week on top of work - so lame! Have a good day bean ovens.

SkaterGrrrrl · 16/04/2012 09:05

Hope you had good weekends everyone.

Wish my bump would hurry up and show so people will offer me a seat on the tube!

In the magic 2nd trimester and still stupidly tired. I'm napping in the afternoon when DC1 naps and going to bed at every night! When will it end?

Zoeplankton · 16/04/2012 09:49

Wow, lizbethsopposite. I'm sure you didn't mean it, but that came across a little abrupt.

I don't think there's much good to be found in doing what they tell you because they tell you to, or that to love something you have to love all of it without question or complaint. I love my country (both of them! Permanent resident in UK, going for citizenship in November) but that doesn't mean I accept it belt and braces - quite the opposite! It means I want the best for it and myself in it - which is exactly why I object to and where possible fight against people (from street drunks to the govt) when they do things that make it worse. Not despite loving it, but because.

Also, 50 hours is not actually reasonable - whether you're being paid for it or not (I assume squidkid, as per standard NHS practice, is working at least 1/5 of her working week for free). The science (and there's a lot of it) is very clear cut, and not just for pregnant ladies - after 40 hours, you're pretty much useless. I can't recommend this article enough - www.alternet.org/visions/154518/why_we_have_to_go_back_to_a_40-hour_work_week_to_keep_our_sanity/?page=entire

I'm a little concerned about the 'infirmity' idea, too... if my organisation lost all the people who have disabilities (even the ones that I know of, most disabilities are invisible after all) we'd lose a lot of our best & brightest, not to mention the only person who knows how to work the photocopier. I can't say working with any of them has ever made my working life more difficult, tbh.

Tsk tsk - I'm back at work today, should be on emails, not mumsnet! Back to work!

Zoeplankton · 16/04/2012 09:52

skatergrrl Help is at hand! There's a bit on the tube website you can go to apply for a little badge that says 'baby on board' - wear it when commuting and everyone will know to give you a seat.

My local train company (I have to go to London from not-London a lot) also has a 'pregnant ladies ride in first class' policy, pending a letter from the doctor. Maybe some other people's train companies might too?

Zoeplankton · 16/04/2012 10:25

For the fizzy drink lovers - me too, me too! I'm going through those little cans of tonic water like there's no tomorrow, with lots of ice :)

We had some fizzy from our friend's new soda stream a few weeks ago - they've launched some very pretty new ones. It was really good, and they love it. The basic model is about £60, but with the amount of fizzy I've been drinking I'm starting to think it could save me a lot of £££...

Have found the answer to my horrible pregnancy constipation! It is...... Dried apricots! Just thought I'd share in case it helps anyone else.
Going back to work tomorrow after taking some time off over Easter so going to tell people at work then. Otherwise I think they will be sat there thinking Hmmmmm, is she pregnant or did she just eat all the Easter eggs!

smileyhappymummy · 16/04/2012 16:53

Oh, and a definite yes to little cans of tonic water. Drinking one right now!

YompingJo · 16/04/2012 17:14

I gave in and told people at work. midgetm, good luck - although, if you don't want people to guess, but there's no way of hiding the changing shape, wouldn't you want them to think you'd been putting on weight? Maybe a different tactic, like never being seen without cake or biscuits, might buy you some more time? Grin

It was nice telling people, my yeargroup are all surprised but happy for me - and from others I got a whole range of reactions, from "what are you calling the bean at the moment" (recent new mum) all the way to "so how long does pregnancy last?" Shock And this from a Year 6 teacher! Male, but not sure that's really enough of an excuse!

Home early for report writing - the glamour never stops!

Kyrria, looking forward to hearing good news!

Guccigirl79 · 16/04/2012 17:19

Afternoon!! Grin Midget that just made me lol!! So sorry I dont want to instill hate in anybody especially over a lolly!! :)
I made DP go to macdonalds last night to get me a mcflurry (creme egg) I told him when he complained that it was what the baby wanted!!!! Aren't I naughty!!!

Have booked 4d scan today & have to wait until 15th July for it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank goodness I will have my 20wk NHS scan in the meantime to look forward to :)

LondonMrsS · 16/04/2012 17:20

Hi chaps, haven't posted in ages as I've just been getting through each day- trying to work 40 hours a week, plus an hour commute across London each way has left me a bit knackered. SkaterGrrrrl, I don't think a seat is guaranteed no matter how big your bump is, bloody rude commuters.

Have finally got past the 12 week mark and had my scan, all of which went really well. I guess we're almost all past 12 weeks now, right?

Good luck Kyyria, I found it a very strange experience- I expected to feel a sudden outpouring of emotion, but it is still difficult to grasp the idea that the little thing in the pic is in my tummy. I'm really happy and excited, I guess it's sinking in more gradually that it's real.

I don't have a bump yet at all, although couldn't fasten a previously loose fitting pair of jeans yesterday so I'm just turning into a fatty. I am officially in the stretchy trousers now.

I have to think about what I'll wear for a family wedding when I'll be 36 weeks preggo- anyone been looking ahead at nice maternity outfits and have any shop / website recommendations?

Anyway, just wanted to say hi!

Hey peeps, sorry if this is TMI - is anyone else noticing a 'pressure' feeling down below and / or sweet smelling discharge like water. It is driving me crazy. Had it, then it went away, back again today. Have to go to EPU tomorrow morning and so pissed off - means missing half a day at work. Am really worried about it because I had it badly last weekend when we were away, was really relieved when it eased off, now back with a vengeance today. Feels like bean is trying to push out! The sweet smell thing is freaking me out as apparently amniotic fluid can sometimes smell sweet. Someone please reassure me that this is normal!!!

London I got some nice dresses in new look yesterday as we have a wedding in a few weeks. A lovely purple one and a lovely turquoise one, also a deep pink more casual summery dress and some linen trousers. They seem to have a nice selection.

Hi Ladies,

Just checking in after a week away on a pre-pregnancy booked ski-ing holiday. I avoided the downhill but had cross country lessons instead - I think that I have now put in enough exercise to last the whole pregnancy. Getting into work clothes is challenging - this is my first but I'm already looking quite round - roundness is visible over skype!
Sympathy with my co-cyclist, I'm starting to huff and puff as well. Apart from all of that, have been doing my best to fend off a horrible cold with fortified orange juice (which is not really doing the trick).

That's it from me - good luck for those who are having scans today.

Hi Zoep bit of a long article on your reference - I have time/interest to only read part of it.
I had actually heard that a 5 day week evolved out of respect for the Sabbath - that a person would have a day for their errands and then the Lord's day.The article makes lots of assertions without references. I did not pursue the references it gave.

I am not suggesting that people who have infirmities should be lost to the workforce.
I am working from the assumption that a NCHD (Non consultant Hospital Doctor) is a 6 month contract ---
You know what, I'm not up for a row. I'm off to watch recorded episode of Montalbano with DH - I hope there is something good in the freezer.

Kyyria · 16/04/2012 19:25

Scan done, home with an alcohol free bottle of cider and phonecalls to parents underway Smile

The scan went well - I am one day further on than I thought - was hoping I could bypass a couple of weeks!!

The top half of the little bean was taking after DH and being camera shy (hands over it's face) but the botton half was taking after me - midwife gave my tummy a big prod to get it to move and bean's legs went absolutely nuts!! Grin

Told some close friends but still need to keep it under wraps until work is told tomorrow.

Overwhelming feeling of "Oh sh*t...what have I got myself into?!?!?" - but in a nice way Smile

Ooh, forgot to say EDD is 28th October

HaggisNeepsTatties · 16/04/2012 19:57

Hi All,

Have been lurking for the past couple of weeks, but haven't really had anything to say so haven't been posting!

Things are going well - have started telling people over the past week which has been great - especially my best friends who know we've been trying for years.

Will be telling my boss tomorrow - I definitely can't hide it any longer!
Velo My usual tight fitting work outfits have been swapped for empire line dresses, and I'm sure I've caught my boss looking at my stomach a couple of times recently!

Someone was asking about leggings earlier...I've got some from fat face and white stuff which are both really good and don't sag even after two days of wearing. They're not maternity but I can pull them up over my little bump which I prefer rather than having things sitting underneath or in the middle of it. I imagine I'll be able to wear them for another 2 months or so before the bump gets to big, but we'll see.

London I took the plunge yesterday and ordered a gorgeous lace Tiffany Rose dress. I have three weddings to go to this year when I'll be 5 months - 7 months pregnant so I figured it was worth the investment plus they sell well on ebay. Speaking of ebay there are often nice Tiffany rose or Isabella Oliver dresses for sale that have only been worn once or twice - so you might snap up a bargain if you don't mind second hand.

In less good news, my friend who is 8 weeks pregnant had to go to the EPU on Friday - she has placental bleeding and although baby was right size and heart beat seen, the blood could be getting into the amniotic fluid...she has to go back for a scan in a week, so feeling worried for her.

Hope everyone is doing well - seems to have been lots of great scan news over the past couple of weeks...it's starting to feel real now!

Angelico · 16/04/2012 20:03

Any takers on the sweet smelling discharge?!

OP posts:
HaggisNeepsTatties · 16/04/2012 20:05

Sorry Angelico not come across this early on in pregnancy, but like you have heard that Amniotic fluid smells sweet.
Hope they manage to reassure you at the EPU - I know it's frustrating having to take the time off, but hopefully will be worth it.

milk · 16/04/2012 20:06

Zoeplankton, Argos has one for £39.99 :)

Angelico · 16/04/2012 20:15

Thanks Haggis :( I just know the bloody thing will go away overnight and will turn up looking like a mad worry wart :(

OP posts:
HaggisNeepsTatties · 16/04/2012 20:31

Angelico you might think it too gross, but if it's happening now then it might be worth putting a pad in to catch some of the fluid - not sure how it will be overnight, but if it does stop then you have something...

Sorry if that's just too minging a prospect!

Angelico · 16/04/2012 20:47

(Already done thanks Blush) x
