Angelico Glad you enjoyed the Stieg Larsson - the good news is there are 2 more. Can you see what I mean about her opposite - I forgot she was bisexual. I'm 5ft 9 size 12-14, 11 1/2 st, DD boobs, non smoker, IT challenged, nary a tattoo, single pierced ears, talk too much...... I could go on

I shouldn't be so sad, it's materialistic of me and I should be more zen about everything.

FjordMor · 13/04/2012 17:27

Hello everyone :)

Just arrived back home in Norway a few hours ago and feeling pretty exhausted but otherwise ok. Have just seen I have 4 pages to catch up on so will post again later when I've caught up on all your news.

FjordMor · 13/04/2012 18:10

Wow! Finally all caught up!

I?m also planning on finding out the sex. We?re convinced it?s a boy and Blush confess to a slight preference for a boy but there will be no disappointment if it?s a girl ? just surprise. As long as it?s a human child all in one piece I?ll be happy! :)

Kyyria - ugh ? so with you on the bizarre dreams (unfortunately). Mine have run the gamut in the last few days from penises being sliced off, getting stuck in lifts no wider than my body and Bruno Mars (who I have no opinion on normally) miming or barely being bothered to pretend to mime whilst strolling nonchalantly around the stage at a gig! The Ninja (our name for the bean) is waking me up at 5.30am every day with no explanation and these dreams tend to happen when I go back to sleep Hmm.

Zara1984 - if you (or anyone else for that matter) find any really good maternity tights/leggings that don?t fall down, go slack and are comfy, please let me know. I?ll be happy to order them from the UK & pay extra tax to get them here if they?re worth the money!

Congrats on great scans to Beeblebear, WantAnOrange, smiley, Mickey (please stay ? you might be premature! Wink), Zara1984 (great news on your ultra-low nuchal results! :)), MidgetM (likewise ? I know that ?old bird?/ok nuchal results/wanting to cry relief Wink x), Yomping (isn?t it great when they move around tons like that? :)), twobuttons, Sedgers & cheeseymonster (and welcome! :)) Phew! 4 days away and look how many scans happened! Hope I didn't miss anyone...

Yomping?yup, stay away from the birth section! Wink As for the placenta business??fraid I?m strictly in the ?yuck? camp. DP & me both nearly puked at the thought of a smoothie. Am with Mickey & londonlivvy on this one. Would love to hear ?why? people do that if anyone on here intends to ? just because they?re ?health-giving?? Is there another reason? Also total sympathy over the bike thing. Just gave away most of my furniture & quite a few of my possessions via freecycle. Was surprisingly ok about most of it but can?t stop thinking about my favourite sofa and wondering if it?s being loved in it?s new home Sad.

Squid - v concerned about you not eating properly. I?m sure you?re looking after yourself. I just worry about people that way?totally agree with the others ? talk to the bma. It would surely be unethical of a medical association to put the health of one of it?s employees at risk?

Angelico :) Thanks :) mucho congratulations on your book news! How exciting!

londonlivvy - glad the holiday was great. Sorry to hear your buyers have pulled out. I have all this joy to come in the next few months :-.

41, first baby, 15 weeks sometime this weekend, back home in Norway :)

milk · 13/04/2012 18:53

All is fine... will tell more later :)

Sedgers · 13/04/2012 20:47

cheesymonster, bella2012 congratulations on the scans!

On the downs question, my DH is very black and white that he would want a termination. I was initially unsure, however having now seen the scan I'm very sure that I just couldn't terminate and wouldn't want to either. Hopefully we are not in the position where we have to make that choice.

Is anyone else feeling sick still? I'm trying not to get down about it, but it's just never-ending and I'm finding it so hard to cope at work. My boss knows I'm pregnant but I don't think he understands how difficult it is to work when you are squirming in your chair fighting the gag reflex all day. I've resorted to taking quite a few 'odd' day's leave as I can't face a full week anymore, but I'm hoping I start to feel better soon as I'm going to run out of leave to take!

Guccigirl79 · 13/04/2012 21:23

Evening ladies, welcome cheesymonster congrats on your scan :)

Not been on for couple of days as work has been manic again this week (don't get me wrong I'm not grumbling just v v v tired!!) Am looking forward to next week being a bit quieter when I can catch up on housework etc & not have to clock watch.

Am also getting my 4d scan organized but it wont be til I'm around 20wks so will be sometime toward end of May,didn't get a fight off DP as I managed to get it with quite a bit off normal price so just told him how much I was saving us & he just handed me the card lol Grin

Had alot of wretching last few days but dont feel sick just extremely tired in evenings, anyone else noticed anything similar?

Nice to see everyone progressing nicely, hope you all have lovely weekends planned :)

milk · 14/04/2012 08:09

Sedgers- I am 15+4 and I still have MS :(

Guccigirl79, out of curiosity, how much is your 4D scan costing?

Kyyria · 14/04/2012 09:18

Is anyone else getting restless legs at night, or is it just me? It's driving me mad!!

Other than that - morning bean ovens waves Smile

YompingJo · 14/04/2012 09:53

I'm getting a weird sort of all-over internal whole body itch in the afternoon that makes me feel restless, like I need to be put on a rack and stretched. Not sure if this is related to restless legs or just a different kind of weirdness! And for a week, I could hear my heartbeat echoing in my ears whenever I sat down and held my head in a certain position.

Zara1984 · 14/04/2012 11:41

Feel your pain Yomping and Kyyria except my itchiness is just underneath my butt - most undignified Blush Comiserations Yomping on the bike. Think of all the lovely money you'll get when someone buys it though! Speaking of money I am now wondering how much I could get for my placenta...!

Fjord The best maternity leggings I've found so far are from ASOS! They have a big sale on maternity gear at the moment. I need to do some more maternity shopping as I am limited right now to 1 pair of maternity jeans, jeggings and dresses.

Has anyone started researching pushchairs??? It's bloody terrifying! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pushchair_chat/1449719-First-time-mum-starting-research-from-scratch-on-pushchair-help I made a thread here if anyone would like to comment. Please please comment if you have anything to add because I feel quite clueless on this. I was kinda fixed on the Maclaren XLR Techno but now I think it's a bit fugly compared to the Bugaboo Bee.... :(

At the rest of a big bag of Haribo Goldbears just now... feel a bit ill. But so so so nice to be having a weekend at home - it's my first since going to the Antipodes!

Age 27, 12+1 weeks, first baby

Zara1984 · 14/04/2012 11:42

Crap that link shortening didn't work first time, here is my pushchair thread link.

GinPalace · 14/04/2012 11:49

Hello ladies, I'm new to the thread.

I am due 14th Oct (theoretically - not had dating scan yet, but very regular cycle and actively trying to conceive so pretty sure) but not getting my scan until over 14 weeks. Has anyone else had this?

I am concerned as the nuchal test can't be done after 14+1. :(

YompingJo · 14/04/2012 12:18

Zara, I feel your pain, DH and I are studiously avoiding even thinking about pushchairs, travel systems, slings etc for now as I just can't cope with all the choice and minor differences. We're also going to see what we gt passed on to us from others and what I can pick up on Freecycle before trying to decide what else we will need. I will follow your thread with interest - Mumsnet should have an advice area where you post your situation, preferences, limitations and a budget and experienced people suggest solutions!

GinPalace, welcome - I had a similar situation, my scan was meant to be at 13+3 but when I had it I was actually dated at 14+5 so too late for nuchal test (which I thought could only be done up to 13+6) - they took bloods for a quad test instead. Be aware though that for the quad test, the baby's age has to be dated from the head measurement not the crown to rump length, and make sure your sonographer dates it like this - mine didn't, and I had to go and get blood taken again as the date from the crown-to-rump length put the baby at one day too young for the quad test to be carried out - I'm learning more than I ever wanted to know about dating pregnancies! Heart nearly stopped when the phone went and the woman said "Hi, I'm calling from Princess Anne's about your blood test" but thank goodness she was just phoning to ask me to go back in for a second sample.

GinPalace · 14/04/2012 12:22

Yomping Thank you so much for that advice. I have no idea what a quad test is so will go and google. I am pleased there is an alternative. :)

YompingJo · 14/04/2012 12:47

GinPalace, no worries. It's a blood test, they check levels of 4 things in the blood I think, which is why it's called a quad test. Google will be much more informative than me though.

Hurray, I have met my report-writing work target for today, off to reward myself with lunch!

squidkid · 14/04/2012 13:50

Oh wow, there is so much to catch up on. Going to spend half the afternoon reading.

Thanks for all your comments and concerns... you ladies are so kind and thoughtful. I'm managing at work, but wow I had forgotten how different it is in hospital, on your feet all the time, dashing about here there and everywhere, no time for breaks, always finishing late, leaning over beds and wrestling to position heavy sick patients so you can listen to their chest, etc. Finishing each day shattered... only worked one long shift this week as well.

Met a friend out one evening and that was just too much for me, even though all I did was sit on a sofa in a nice pub and eat dinner and chat. She's a hospital doctor too - I met her on a job a couple of years ago - and was entirely lovely and sympathetic. GPs forget, I think, how physically different the job is in hospital.

Told both my consultants at work - they were both nice - or I probably would have cried. No one's managed to sort out taking me off nights or the 12 day stretches of on call yet, but at least they said "congratulations" rather than "oh for fuck's sake." I'm working on it. I've had to speak to my consultants, the rota organiser, my union, occupational health, my GP and my programme director SO FAR and still have to call medical staffing monday. All I feel is guilty and lazy and like I'm a skiver, even though all I'm asking for is not to work more than 50 hours a week, and to work the days instead of the nights. It's not that I don't want to work...

Managed to eat most days, I'm sorry Fjordmor I feel terrible about it too! Sometimes I hug squid kid when I get home (this is what I call the baby - this will probably confuse you all!) and cry and say sorry for stressing him out or tiring him out...

One day at a time eh! Have today and tomorrow off so had an (outdoor!) swim this morning and bought some nice food from a cute village in the peaks, fresh veg and that. If I get off the sofa again now it will be a miracle!

32, 16+5, first kid, still no bump!!

squidkid · 14/04/2012 13:52

Can I just clarify the outdoor swim was in a heated pool. I'm not insane.

YompingJo · 14/04/2012 14:01

squid, the thought of you hugging your bean and crying made me cry too :(. Please keep going with standing up for your rights, it's really important. It's very clear that you are not a skiver or lazy, but it is also clear that the demands of the job, or just the level of worrying it produces, is a bit unreasonable at the moment and if there is any way to lessen the stress then you shouldn't worry about pursuing it.

Glad you have a couple of days off - my gym has an outdoor pool but I've been too much of a coward to try it in case it's cold!

Sedgers · 14/04/2012 14:29

Milk that's horrible, I hope that you start to feel better soon.

Squid, you seem like an extremely conscientious person, those hours just seem rediculous for a pregnany lady. I hope you can in some way reduce the hours and also the nights. Surely hefting around people into positions is not what you should be doing and has to be against health and safety regs. I agree with yompingJo that you shouldn't worry about persuing this. I'm sure you've given them enough hard work to compensate for a bit of a reduction when you really need it for you and your baby's health.

I've just had a lovely morning in the sunshine and have also splashed out on a basic knitting set, some lovely yarns and patterns for baby clothes (for beginners). I used to knit when I was younger but that was a very long time ago. Now to remember how to cast on :)

squidkid · 14/04/2012 14:30

Angelico MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR BOOK! That is such exciting news. Don't forget us all when you're famous!

Zara I think the pet toys sounds fine... I would do the same but my cats only like rubber things, and they destroy them instantly. I'm going to wash my old teddy from when I was 2 though. My mum gave him back to me. He is a proper cool old fashioned bear. He is just very dusty. Hopefully little squid will love him just as much as I did. I like the idea of old things with personality rather than new things.
And pushchairs seem like such a minefield I think I'm going to just buy/borrow a sling and only get a buggy if I find that too tiring!

Yomping I am so sorry about your bike. :( :( :( When I was three I used to ride on the back of my mum's with a little helmet... am sure this is not legal these days!

Sedgers not sick still - you poor poor thing - but still so exhausted doing things I used to do without thinking...

random thoughts on all your discussions:
I don't have a bump really - bit thicker round the middle - I can definitely feel my uterus though. It's about two thirds of the way up to my belly button. I don't know if that's normal for 17 weeks or not...

I'm laughing at the placenta discussion. Not easily grossed out, but don't quite see the point of the smoothie!

I am totally on the fence on the Downs issue. Just hoping it's not a decision I'll ever have to make and lots of sympathy for anyone who's been there. All my tests came back as low risk.

Big congratulations to everyone who's had scans this week. Mine seems like ages ago!

squidkid · 14/04/2012 14:35

Sedgers and Yomping thank you both... I'm sure I will feel loads better once it is sorted one way or another. One of my consultants called his wife when I asked his advice! ("she's a doctor, she's been pregnant" and then I could hear her bossily down the phone, "who's pregnant?? It's your SHO is it??" - it was fairly hilarious) She was the only person I have spoken to so far who has the faintest idea what I should do/who I should talk to. You think the NHS might have come across doctors having babies before now... Hmm

I'm jealous of your knitting sedgers. I can't remember how to do that at all. A friend of mine knits and I love going to wool shops with her, the different colours and textures really appeal to me! (such a child) I want to make a mobile for the little squid but I can't think how to...

FjordMor · 14/04/2012 14:36

Oh squid I hope I didn't come across as critical - I'm just worried about you. I've worked with & been mates with lots of young doctors & I know how it is & that you hardly have time to remember your name. Doesn't make it right when your pregnant though but your firm should be supporting you.

As for me, DP just told DSDs. 10 yr old seems ok about it but 12 yr old is inconsolably devastated & amongst bits I could make out through the hysterical crying & ranting feels she is 'in hell' & 'not ready for this'. SadSadSadSad all round Sad.

squidkid · 14/04/2012 14:41

Oh poor you Fjordmor. Not the best reaction! But 12 years old is pretty much a teenager. Everything is massive and unfair when you are a teenager. I am so sorry she reacted like that but I am sure she will come round. Hope your DP is giving you plenty of hugs and reassurance though, sounds like the step mum thing is hard at the best of times...

and no! you didn't seem critical at all, I was touched by your concern and grateful.
