Hi
I am 43 and expecting my first and these next several months are going to be a challenge so hoping to meet others in the same situation.
I can believe I have a baby growing in my dusty cobweb ridden womb. It has taken me 3 weeks to get my head around the whole thing and it is still worried about the future and being able to cope. My partner is fab and great helping me with the ups and downs of baby hormones. Nothing beats hot sweats, night panics and freeze in the middle of tescos wondering our we doing the right thing. I feel better this week and got my head around things .
Any ladies who also need support or just to have a good moan every now and again. xx
Ps thinking about having a toilet built next to my bed to save time going to the loo quite a bit in the evenings!!

HBPD good news so far, got everything crosses for you for your next hurdle.

Fjordmor that strangely does make me feel better. In a way I live symptoms
Being strong as it reassures me that still going strong but then grumble about them. I am a difficult bugger to please. So you want me to come round and tape your Mums mouth shut for a wee while? You are in london aren't you? I could jump in the car if I had the energy. It's the least I could do for you making me feel better.

newumma · 29/03/2012 21:52

Congrats! As one of the elders of the pack ( DS born Dec 11 to his young 45 yr old mammy), I say enjoy ur pregnancy, take it easy, do lots of relaxing things like reading, long baths, cinema , nice restaurants... When babby comes along at least these will be recentish nice memories Grin

FjordMor · 29/03/2012 22:31

Awww thanks Midgetm :) I'd take you up on it if I wasn't too knackered to get up and go to the door... Blush

Booking in appointment today. May beg for an EPU referral as got an attack of the heebegeebes. They can't hear a heartbeat at 10 weeks can they? I am quite tiny so I am kidding myself they will be able to. I have been very positive considering my dodgy history but all of a sudden now I have an proper offical appointment I am a wreck! Help............

Hpbp · 30/03/2012 09:48

Midgetm, at 10 weeks, it is possible to see and hear the heartbeat with a scan, but I am not sure that a Doppler would allow you to hear the heartbeat, most MW don't bother doing it because it can be stressfull. Don't panoc if you don't hear it, you will see it though. Good luck and keep us posted. Fingers crossed.

Hpbp · 30/03/2012 09:49

Panic, not panoc....

FjordMor · 30/03/2012 11:14

Midgetm - I had an EPU scan at 10 weeks - she could 'see' the heartbeat and tried to show it to me (I saw nothing but didn't know what to look for) but there were no sounds. I guess for me, a senior sonographer 'seeing' it and saying it was good reassured me. Do beg for EPU referral if you're really anxious - I'm sure they'd give you a reassurance scan with your history and a lot of units you can 'self-refer' and show up at 'open clinic' times. I don't blame you for having a 'moment' like that. I was the same before my 10 week one - sudden panic. Hope all goes well at the booking in appt xx

Midgetm · 30/03/2012 15:07

I was together for the midwife appointment but her sympathy and kindness pushed me over the edge. So went to EPU, explained I was being a crazy lady after having to repeat my history out loud and they kindly scanned me. So saw the bean again, massive head. And he listened to the HB and measuresd it. I was totally shocked at how much my normal booking appointment freaked me out, totally took me by surprise. Spend so long trying to be positive it is easy to forget the paranoid thoughts that bubble under the surface. Have 2 more scans in the next 2 weeks, should be enough, even for me! Someone in EPU asked me if you could still get pregnant in your 40's,. I was tempted to refer her to this thread. She also asked how old I was. The sauce!

Hpbp · 30/03/2012 15:26

Well done Midgetm. Now you can relax and enjoy the weather! 2 more scans within the next 2 weeks.... Hats down ! Xxxx

littleredmonkey · 30/03/2012 18:45

thinking of you Midgetm. Try and have a relaxing weekend. See friends go for a nice walk or meal. Cheeky sod asking if you can still get pregnant in your 40's. Probably jealous you are still having sex. Saying that once the baby comes it will be a distant memory I keep thinking !!!!!.
Thinking about going to the gym, but quite bloated which is down to the chicken curry I just hoovered up and 2 digestive biscuits. I have been really bad with my diet last three weeks eaten quite a bit. Lots of good stuff fruit and veg just the odd chinese and pizza. Keep wanting sweets and chocolate. So with that thought in mind I will attempt the gym . I have quite a few twinging pains today on my right side which I have not had for weeks. So I will do some gentle cycling . Plus it is a good place to look at all the blokes lifting weights . hahahah !!!!. Only joking.
Cleaned the house from top to toe today. Stink of mr sheen and window spray so I am a domestic goddess. May treat myself to a flake after the gym (yes I am useless).
Hugs to you all and have a good Saturday. Ooohshiny hope you are ok and feeling better xx

After a scary week with DD1 all is fairly well. She developed a raging chest infection out of nowhere and the GP took bloods thinking the worst. Got results lunchtime - low platelets but all nasties ruled out. Diagnosis of ITP which usually passes in a couple of months - needs close monitoring at hospital with regular bloods, and may need treatment if her counts drop lower. Worst case scenario is spleenectomy - big scar, but you can live without a spleen. Risk of severe bleeding from fairly minor knocks so she will not be allowed much fun for a while Grin

Kids are a lot easier when they are in the womb.

littleredmonkey · 30/03/2012 22:19

sending hugs to ya valiumqueen . Hope she is comfortable xxxxxx

Just a quick hi from me. Been a bit busy recently. Lots going on in here! Wil back in a day or two to catch up properly. Have a good weekend. Ffxx

Midgetm · 31/03/2012 07:31

VQ hugs for DD, sounds all such a worry but such a relief the nasties have been ruled out sorry to be ignorant but what is ITP?

LRM hope you enjoyed your perv, I mean workout. I have one fro
5 times a week to about 2 times for my perving . Hoping the energy comes back second trimester.
Hpbp and LRM - thanks for your well wishes.
fjord hope your mums not driving you too crazy. X

sorry if I missed anyone, posting from my phone, in bed. May the sun shine on us and all have a relaxing and marvellous weekend x

HorseyGirl1 · 31/03/2012 08:14

Shineysideup - congrats on Baby Noah - such a lovely name!
Fjord - step away from Dr Google - that way madness lies! Trust me, so far I have had SPD (as opposed to being a bit stiff from lying on the same side all the time) high BP (as opposed to having just a bleedy preggo nose and blowing the honk all the time with the cold) DVT (as opposed to Bumpy just lying on a nerve connected to my thigh) high protein (as opposed to just needing to drink more water) etc etc. need I continue? D'oh!
ValiumQueen - hope your daughter feels better soon. Just what you need at the moment.
LRM - ha ha at oogling the hunky boys down the gym. I seem to find myself staring a lot at any broad shoulders I see when out and about. DH and me are not allowed to at the moment - so a little light perving is my only fun at the moment. Dark sunglasses for further oogling will follow shortly...
As for me 30 weeks last Thursday and feeling OK apart from occasional mentalling (see above)! But I did do well this week. I got my pram organised which was a really big step in making this all real. Also looked at the mess I call home and went out to finally order curtain rails and a new blind. Have been trying to tidy up a bit and have sorted out some bags for the charity shops and generally been fixing my nest! Sorry I don't post very much but I love reading all the posts on here. HOpe you all have a lovely restful weekend or if not at least a nice lie down now and again. xx

randomimposter · 31/03/2012 09:06

very quick message from me as on phone and also struggling with terrible back pain. But my adjusted risk came back yesterday and improved me from 1 in 39 to 1 in 768. Relieved of course but will only be able to enjoy when have sorted this back problem. Waves to all.

FjordMor · 31/03/2012 15:34

Thanks LRM - my mum is a legend in shit mum-ness I'm afraid. Nothing I'll ever do about it (and have finally stopped blaming myself/assuming everything's my fault & accepted it) but it doesn't stop me constantly forgetting & expecting her to be loving like a normal mum. Big kudos by the way on the top to toe house clean and gym plans (did you make it?) - so glad you're feeling better from the cold! :)

Midgetm - so glad you got your scan & feel a teensy bit better. Actually I was kind of freaked after my not booking-in appointment. Went straight home & cried like a wuss most of the afternoon - although I think a lot of it was misery/shock about my weight but also the sheer reality of it all I think just hitting home. Can't believe some silly bint asked you that! However, it's amazing the ignorance of some...once when on the phone to my mobile provider, trying to explain I'd be moving country this (otherwise switched on & eloquent) girl said to me "Is Norway abroad then?" (and she wasn't joking).

ValiumQueen - hope your DD1 makes good progress - how scary for you.

jollster - can I ask what is 'adjusted risk'? Is that when they combine the NT scan and blood results? Only majorly curious 'cos I'm having my NT on Monday morning & bloods will be back then as well. Super-anxious about the whole thing :-.

HorseyGirl1 - lol! :) You're right, of course. However, I am fairly sensible with online info as I worked in medicine for years. Mostly I use it to reassure myself that other pregnant women have the same symptoms and therefore 'it's nothing' and normal Wink. ie. had a massive nosebleed the other day, googled 'nosebleed symptom of pregnancy', found out it was fairly common and thought there, fine, normal! and ironically I may actually have high BP as I've had borderline readings before & I'm overweight! (& no-one's taken it since I've been pregnant). I'm mostly choosing not to worry and was bizarrely hormonally zen for the 1st 10 weeks. The only thing I'm really worried about is my blood test results and NT results :-. Glad to hear you're managing to nest a bit and feeling ok :)

randomimposter · 31/03/2012 15:55

Fjord., basically you get a background risk which is just your age. Then with the bloods and scan info they give you an adjusted risk specifically for your pregnancy. You often have to wait for you bloods results for a few days or longer, unless you go private, and even then it's not always immediate. At your scan they'll be measuring the fluid behind the neck. And the lower this is the better. Mine was 1.5 mm. From memory i think it was 0.9 with my son.

randomimposter · 31/03/2012 15:58

sorry just saw your bloods available then too. Good luck for Monday then.

ValiumQueen · 31/03/2012 16:53

Thank you for your kind messages - ITP is when they have ruled out all other causes for low platelets and basically have no idea - it is probably caused by a virus and the antibodies get a bit over-zealous and attack platelets which help the blood to clot. It is sometimes fatal if there is a bleed in the brain or intestines, but DD1 seems fine thankfully. The doctors have been awesome. I am so grateful we have free healthcare.

I have my booking appointment on easter monday. No date for scan yet. I am 9 weeks now and feeling very sick and tired beyond belief.

lopopo · 31/03/2012 16:57

Hello all - may I join your group please? I am 41 years young and 22 weeks pregnant with my #1. A boy! Due August 3rd. So far so good...Am a little paranoid as have had long journey to get here but am trying to enjoy it.

littleredmonkey · 31/03/2012 17:03

Hi guys
I managed the gym last night, lord it was hard work flopping from one machine to another. I did get a good viewing spot of the cross trainer to do a spot of light perving. It is a good way of passing 30 mins which would be other wise be very dull looking at the local news on the monitors or far worse looking at some 20 something lady with small ass and no jibble working out. Not jealous much now I cant do my weights. I was a tad pissed when I put on my gym gear as it has got quite tight.Plus the muffin top was not attractive. Self inflicted by my eating habits lately. Wont stop me having my dominos pizza this evening. Gym again on Sunday , Having a lazy afternoon watching a film and relaxing.
Valiumqueen - Hows your little one. Hope she ok ?
Jollster - Hows your back honey ? Glad your results were good
Horseygirl - Bet is was exciting buying the pram ? did it blow your mind with all the choice ? God help me nearer the time. Partner is going DIY nuts in prep. He has redone the down stairs utility room which has needed doing for ages. We have bought tester pots for the kitchen to re do that room and then the bed room for a touch up. We will wait for the nursery decorating till we find out the sex. Partner is hoping for robots all over the wall !!! Partners brother is fab at art so I am sure we will get some cool wall paints if I ask nicely. It seems strange to be soon sharing our house with a special someone else soon. I am taking 40 weeks mat leave then partner is being the super hero and giving up work to look after little one will nursery then hopeful go back to work ( fingers crossed ) . So a massive life change for us both. How did all you other ladies cope with your first? I am crapping my pants at the thought.

Hope everyone is dandy today. Looking forward to a pizza and popcorn later while watching a good horror film.
Hope you all have a good evening xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Special hi to Lopopo weclome to the gang.

Morning all,

Blimey VQ, your family have really been through it. No wonder you are exhausted. Such a relief to rule out the nasties though and as we all know kids have the most amazing habit of bouncing back. It's the parents they leave drained. I hope you are able to get some much derserved r'n'r.

LRM - good job on the perving - I went to pilates yesterday and intend to go to the gym but going up West (I don't acually ever really say that - I have been possessed by the spirit of Pauline Flowler) may just finish me off! Hope he pizza and popcorn went down well.

lopopo welcome to our little group of oldies - paranoia and long journeys are our speciallity so you should fit right in.

Horseygirl I remember DH and I nearly puking in the shop when we were faced with the choices over prams and pushchairs - it terrified me - so intimidating. Silly but it totally freaked us both out. We just looked at each other in terror as the overwhelming choice faced us. For usm, the realisationb of the enormity of parenthood was triggereed by the big pram decisions! Well done for passing your first major hurdle!

I was out last night so beyond tired today. Notice the more tired I am the more sick I feel - they feed off each other like little parasites. Supposed to be on a 12 mile walk today but binned that idea - just don't have the stamina for a couple of weeks at least for that kind of business.

Right best go and dress DD rather than leaving her suck in front of the TV. Can't wait to tell her but holding off till the NT scan. Spending time preparing her for it though so it comes as a happy surprise.

Happy Sunday everyone - x

ValiumQueen · 01/04/2012 10:02

R'n'r? I wish! Just as DD1 is recovering from a chest infection, DD2 (nearly 2) has developed one too. Up most of night, temp 39.5, struggling for breath due to coughing, trip to out of hours this morning... Grrr!

Have barely given this little bean a passing thought.

I have told DD2 about pg - will tell DD1 after the scan. No tests for me unless there is obviously a problem.

I will be getting a new pram - DD1had a second hand one, and I have still got it. The mice have nibbled the foam off the handle, so I am going to treat myself! I would love a silver cross carriage built jobbie, but have 3 steps up to the house so not that practical.
