The third instalment as we're a talkative bunch!

turnwest poor you! I think a bit of sun and a cream cake sound like the best medicine in my opinion. Try not to worry too much.

I haven't really been on here much this week because, same as you turnwest I have my scan tomorrow and the suspense is killing me. I really just can't wait to tell people and stop keeping it secret. I told a colleague last week as she was off on holiday for a fortnight and her reaction was just lovely: big hug and lots of questions. I was really touched. However, I can't tell the rest of work yet as I am on a six month contract that ends on April 10th and I am hoping it will be renewed. Needless to say, announcing my pregnancy beforehand might affect whether it is or not! Sneeky I know, but sadly needs must and the nuchal scan isn't until mid April I think so that will be my excuse for not saying anything until then. Are most of you waiting to 'announce' until after 12 weeks or after the nuchal scan?

Liege and velo thank you so much for all your advice the other day, sorry it's taken so long to reply.

'Yay' for everyone with positive scans/enjoying the sun/no MS or tiredness, 'Boo' and sympathy for everyone with work etc problems.

lisbethsopposite · 29/03/2012 14:14

Smorgs
I'd definitely say nothing until after the 10th - NADA, zip it. After baby arrives, time off is great, but right now you need to be a money making factory as well as a baby making one.
After you become a mum, and you are one now, you have to always look out for your child's interests. That includes not giving your employer an opportunity to treat you less well than when you weren't pregnant. It is not sneeky AT ALL.

londonlivvy · 29/03/2012 15:02

turnwest hope you've managed to speak to a midwife or get checked out by now? anyway, sending you positive thoughts.

Smorgs I'm with lisbeth - you really shouldn't say anything until it's actually confirmed to be all ok at your scan. Definitely. (and that's a v.good defence if work subsequently query your decision not to say).

Kyyria so glad your booking appointment went well- hooray for lovely midwifes.

tunwest how scary. Hope you've managed to get checked out or are reassured. I agree with the others that they are very well cushioned in there- at our scan ours measured 6.2cm which is so tiny compared to the rest of me!

Sorry for those with work troubles. I told my immediate line manager at about 8 weeks, and going to tell HR when I get back (will be 14 weeks)- was holding off for scan. From what I remember I don't HAVE to tell them until 25 weeks before due date.

Moan time here- Well, my joy at sleeping through the night was shortlived. Whilst I slept through the night again last night, this has been countered by nausea and sickeness all day yesterday and today, and complete exhaustion. Thank god I'm off work at the moment- got out of bed at about 10 this morning, went to the shops, had lunch, then back to bed for a couple of hours. I've had nausea up till now but nothing this bad, and it has always helped eating- now I am hungry but eating makes me feel or be sick. Think the little one may be going through a growth spurt- my stomach is also hurting- feels streched (although that could be in my head), and things must have moved a bit inside as i'm now not peeing nearly as much as I was before!

londonlivvy · 29/03/2012 17:37

MrsPeggy I think we don't have to tell them til 15 weeks before expected due date, but by then it'd be pretty obvious on most people. poor you re nausea - I feel your pain as am having a wave of HIDEOUS yuckiness and need to pull myself together to go to a friend's house for supper. UGH. I want to go home and sleep. ugh.

Midgetm · 29/03/2012 19:27

Evening all,

turnwest hope the cream cake therapy worked wonders. I am sure the bean is fine. Even direct blows to the tummy are unlikely to harm a bean at this stage so try not to worry too much if you can.

Smorgs totally agree with the others you have no obligation to tell and of you aren't showing then I would protect your position as much as possible. Having been on the end of some shabby treatment by an employer when pregnant I would always put myself first now. I know it can seem selfish but you need your cash for you and the bean.

yomping I was hoping for something more than paperwork at my booking appointment tomorrow but at least you have managed my expectations! 2 hours of filling in forms. Oh deep joy.

Fjordmor sorry the scales were unkind. Don't let them get to you - it's just a number and you are still the same Fjord that stood on them before you knew the numbers. Scales are a bitch sometimes and I think you can easily blame a kg or two on fibroids and constipation!

MrsPP sorry you are feeling so pants. Hopefully you will get your full second trimester glow soon.

Blimey that posting has knackered me. Had a facial and feeling all sleepy. Really hoping I may get a listen to the HB tomorrow but know this is unlikely so early. Can't help day dreaming though. Anyway hope you are all more perky than me and have a lovely, stress free evening x

piggyboo · 29/03/2012 19:51

Just checking in, not been on here for a while as i was quite poorly with 'slapped cheek virus' then DD has picked up a Diarrhoea bug and had to be admitted to hospital. To top off my week the docs have lost the blood sample they took 2 weeks ago to see if i definately had slapped cheek (dangerous to the baby) or something else, so i have been stressing about the results all week and they've not even been run :( Got to go in to repeat the bloods tomorrow.

Also i had my booking appt last Friday and ended up in tears whilst discussing the birth of my daughter, it was a little bit traumatic but nothing really to cry about and it was 2 years ago, damn pregnancy hormones.

angelico the Kari-me wraps are good once you get the hang of tying them, they are very similar to the moby wrap. Also its definately not to early to buy one, i bought a new hug-a-bub wrap off ebay whilst still TTC Blush

congratulation to all those who have had happy scans this week, my sis had a happy 8 wk scan this afternoon, i'm so pleased as she has had several miscarriages in the last couple of years so fingers crossed bean stays healthy.

CWest30 · 29/03/2012 20:46

Well, here we go, this is finally it SCAN DAY TOMORROW. Arrrrgggghhh managed quite well not to think about it all week, (thank god for a busy week at work), but doubt I will get much sleep tonight, esp as my 4 yr old not well either :-(

Cant believe that in 14.5 hrs all the waiting will be over, and I will finally get those answers to those agonising questions....,is there even a baby there? Is everything ok? And how far gone am I?? Arrrggghhhh this is insane, wish me luck people, I will let you all know the outcome either way, best of luck to anyone else scanning tomorrow xxx

CWest30 · 29/03/2012 20:50

Oh and just seen a few of your kind messages from earlier in the week when I was stressing about stressing and harming baby(!) thanks for your support, hope fully all is fine x

FjordMor · 29/03/2012 21:24

CWest30 - best of luck tomorrow. I had reached the point of not believing there could be anything alive in there before I saw it! Also best of luck for scans tomorrow to Smorgs and turnwest. Will be thinking of you all.

turnwest - I do hope you're ok. It's a big shock having a fall like that. Here's hoping the bean hardly felt a thing. Hope the cream cake did the trick :).

Mickey - job situation sounds nightmarish. Kind of agree with your DP but change & upheaval can be the last thing you feel like when you're up-duffed (take it from one who's swimming in it!).

piggyboo - hope you can get some reassurance soon re the slapped cheek risk. Sorry you've been feeling so poorly. Someone needs to get their finger out and give you some news! x

Midgetm - thank you :) That was exactly what I wanted to hear Wink. I guess the way I should think about it is the way I choose to. Hope I don't come across any more doctors who feel the need to say 'Obviously, you're frightfully fat...'

Wishing everyone good sleep, good dreams, good work days tomorrow and a day free from horrid symptoms x

Midgetm · 29/03/2012 21:26

Good luck cwest hope you mange to get some kip and not fret too much x

turnwest · 30/03/2012 11:00

Good luck cwest, I am sure you re scan will be fine, I m so jealous that I have to wait until Wednesday for mine!

Thanks for everyones kind wishes, I saw the GP yesterday and she said pretty much the same thing, the baby is still tucked down in my pelvis and unlikely to have been harmed but watch out for things like bleeding, pain etc. Luckily no bleeding and apart from an aching bum, back and shoulders I feel fine.

If my uterus is still tucked down in my pelvis though, what is making my stomach look so big? Bloating? too many cream cakes maybe? oops...!

Have a great weekend everyone.

squidkid · 30/03/2012 12:27

Hey lovely ladies

I'm back from my epic hike with the best weather ever, we did 60 miles over 4 days in the end, I am footsore but happy, relaxed, triumphant. I feel better about myself and my very-slightly-changing body (hint of a bump? in the evenings anyway!) and I feel better and more secure about my baby (who the boyfriend has taken to calling "squid kid" cause he liked the name so much!) Either exercise has been so good for me, or being off work is so good for me, or second trimester really is as lovely as they say! Bit of all three probably! I did really well on the hike, I don't think I'm any less fit than usual, but did take more breaks and drink more water. (I also had to wee ALL THE TIME. Half the countryside must have seen me wee.)

I have soooooo much to catch up on, congratulations to all who have had happy scans this week and good luck for today CWest

Just having a feet-up day in the sunshine today, resting my tired hiking limbs. Walked (limped!) to the market this morning and going to cook some scrambled eggs for lunch in a mo. I have eaten all sorts of things I wasn't meant to on holiday, oops. B'n'Bs serving me runny yolks, caffeine, king prawn curry one night (whatever, I wanted it!), probably unwashed salad. Oh well. I keep telling myself not many mums manage to do something that active and giving myself a pat on the back for that instead!

My best friend's mum has just sent me a congratulations card after he told her I was pregnant at the weekend, it includes the line "I smoked and drank through both my pregnancies and look at the result!" - haha, I love her.

OOh, going to have a more thorough read and see how you all are.

32, 14+3, first (squid)kid

squidkid · 30/03/2012 12:39

turnwest oh you poor thing, what a horrible thing to happen... I'm sure baby will be fine but I completely understand your worry... god the cat jumped on my stomach this morning and I had a 10 minute freakout about it. Hope your scan is soon and you can get that reassurance you need.

Smorgs · 30/03/2012 13:28

I had my scan! And it was... just beautiful. There was a proper baby in there and everything! And it had a heartbeat. They even did the nuchal fold thingy there and then and it was totally normal. I'm very happy, have just told parents, sisters and in laws and they were all really great. Mum has already bought French Kids Don't Throw Food to send me?!

squidkid nice to have you back, glad the holiday was good
CWest Hope your scan went well today too
piggyboo Sorry to hear you've been unwell and weepy. My DH came home the other night to find me in tears reading Pride and Prejudice the shame of it
lisbeth londonlivvy midgetm thanks for the work advice, I'm deffo keeping schtum until I know what's happening with my contract.

Big sunny smiles to you all from a very happy Smorgs x

lisbethsopposite · 30/03/2012 13:43

Hello all,
I'm just back from the supermarket where I was shocked to find they sell sushi! Has that always been there? It didn't look too tempting. I bought the box of 8 ice-creams in case I was running low - can't run out of ice-cream. I'm sure in among the fat and sugar there is an odd vitamin lurking. Grin

Good luck on the scan today citywest. Turnwest, just a few more days now.

I've been googling some info re exercise and pregnancy, when some of our crew were mentioning highish BMIs. Contact sports are not recommended and something like mountain biking. However walking, cycling, yoga and swimming are fine. Cycling would not suit people with Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (You would feel pain on your pubic bone). Personally I think walking and swimming is the way to go - I don't really work much in yoga, don't know how.
Remember three 10min walks are as good as one 30min one. We should be doing 30mins exercise, 5 days a week minimum.
Please try it, it lowers the risk of lots of possible complications, and when you get into it, it is good for the head. Smile

Beeblebear · 30/03/2012 13:44

Congrats squid! That IS quite the accomplishment!

I.m pff to the mountains until monday, don.t think i'll hike 60miles though. lol

Have to get all dressed up for a celebration dinner for my uncle. Tried n myfancy dress and you can definately see my ...what I am calling baby coccoon! Bit nervous about the "you are big for 11 weeks, is it twins?" Comments

lisbethsopposite · 30/03/2012 13:48

Oh yes squidkid, I thought of you in the sunshine. What a lucky break to have had such wonderful weather. Glad all went well.

Just got a text, a good friend just had a baby girl!! Ahh!
That'll be us in a while, sending those texts.

squidkid · 30/03/2012 14:21

Congratulations Smorgs! It's so amazing to see isn't it. Did they tell you how far along you are?

lisbeth I think they do usually sell sushi in the supermarket, but it's not nice sushi. Haha, I was just remembering the day I got my positive pregnancy test I ate a whole pile of sashimi in a state of shock without even realising I wasn't supposed to! I agree with your exercise ideas, they sound really sensible. I used to be bigger when I was younger (not huge or anything, like a size 16) and I really really gradually introduced small changes (walking to work, etc) and lost weight really really slowly, but, well, I've been slim for years now, it all stayed off. I've certainly never been skinny but that's not what it's about. The fitness kick came later, and that side of it comes and goes, but it really was one of the best things I've ever done, just becoming a generally active person. I keep using this phrase at the moment, (mostly when faced with the amount of overpriced baby stuff we're supposed to buy): "I'd rather DO stuff than HAVE stuff." Ah, rambling.

Beeblebear which mountains do you live near? I want to live near mountains! The Peak district will have to do for me, ha ha. People have odd ideas about when you "should" show. Seems to me going on what women say that it's any time between 6 and 30 weeks! What's your fancy dress costume?

I'm looking at plans for a quiet weekend after my EPIC HIKE (sorry still so proud) ... going to make a long slow spag bol tonight and watch Tintin, and then maybe go to this farm market event tomorrow and try to ignore their "gin stall", or they are opening the open air swimming pool in the Peaks tomorrow so that might be nice... some chinese lantern festival parade thing sunday... or maybe I'll do none of the above just sleep :)

Smorgs · 30/03/2012 17:13

Hey squid - the doctor was almost spot on with dating, so I was due on Oct 16 and am now Oct 17.
Wow all that exercise sounds great! I felt my energy levels coming back today so went for a swim and feel completely awesome now.... although that may be because of the scan and telling family?!

Guccigirl79 · 30/03/2012 17:48

Happy Friday lovely baby bakers :):)

Glad you enjoyed your hols Squid sounds like you had a well deserved rest.

Cwest Hope all went well with your scan today & you got to see your tiddler somersaulting away!!

Been chatting with a friend today about scans etc & she went to a place in Solihull for a more indepth scan (4d) as well as NHS scans.I didnt think I'd have much of leg up with DP on that front (as it costs money & we're both skinflints lol) however,he told me 'whatever you like,if it's what you want then see about getting booked in' you could've blown me down with a feather!! So am going to research it after dinner :) has anyone else had private scans & if so would you recommend going?

milk · 30/03/2012 19:39

CWest30, I hope everything went ok today!

MickeyTheShortOne · 30/03/2012 19:52

Hello everyone, hello squidkid, glad you enjoyed your 60 mile (OMG) hike!! I need a good holiday too!! Although maybe not a 60 mile one.. Wink
Congratulations to all those with healthy scans and hope everything went Ok today Cwest30.
guccigirl79 My cousin had a 4d scan and they give you a copy of the DVD for it so it is a nice keepsake. Very technical but it looks great. Definately recomend it as the pictures are so much clearer and you can see everything!

squidkid · 30/03/2012 20:28

A friend of mine just told me she was pregnant today, couple of weeks behind me at 12 weeks, so happy for her. She already has a 2 year old. She said she's not having the 12 week scan and "might" have the 20 week one... (I guess because she wouldn't have an abortion whatever was found)... really made me think about how reliant I found I became on the idea of my scan and how my mum never had any with me or my two brothers, and of course the world over most women are never scanned. It's almost like we start to believe the scan itself makes the pregnancy healthier, when of course it does nothing at all one way or the other. I wonder if I would have been so nervous around the 12 week mark if I'd known all along I wouldn't be scanned unless there were problems.

Food for thought, anyway.

nenehooo · 30/03/2012 20:35

Hello everyone! Happy to hear about good news at scans from lots of you, fingers firmly crossed for everyone else Smile
Very jealous of your epic adventure squid I am getting really breathless doing the minimum amount of activity... And I mean like I would imagine asthma to feel like and sometimes just literally walking from room to room around the house... Anyone else?!
I've also had good news re unidentifiable lump... GP can't feel it anymore!!! SO relieved and reading my baby book again Grin however I have lost weight to need to go back and check again and he did say again that my uterus is big for my dates so could be twins... I can feel it when I lie down and grope around... It's amazing, I highly recommend it!!! Am burn getting a bump in the evenings, although think it's a wind baby more than anything Blush
Anyway, hope you all have a lovely weekend... And to all you teachers - HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!! Grin
