The third instalment as we're a talkative bunch!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

squidkid can I join your club too? My scan date is supposed to be coming in the post but I haven't recieved anything yet. I keep feeling like I'm making it all up and there isn't really anything in there. I'm sure I'm not, but there's still that niggling doubt.
angelico That's really bad news about your subject. Very short sighted of them as academic subjects are always the ones that give the kids the best chance of getting into their choice of uni. Our school always has a massive proportion of kids taking academic A levels, and we don't offer any mickey mouse ones that I know of, we send kids to college to do those.
mathsy My booking appointment was all questions about family medical history, then she took blood and asked some more questions, and that was it. They generally don't listen for a heartbeat yet because it worries people when they can't find it, even though it's perfectly normal.
My sympathies to everyone who says they feel unsexy. I used to have a very high sex-drive, but for the past 2 years (since my last pregnancy) we've had a ridiculously rubbish sex-life Blush It was amazing that we ever got pregnant with this one (not planned) as we'd only had sex twice in the past 3 months Blush. That's probably not what anyone wants to hear, and I do know people who have amazing sex lives even with small children, but we just aren't managing it as we're both too tired all the time.

jodidi · 13/03/2012 22:19

tennerlady my OH is acting the same way as yours. This baby wasn't planned, and he's got it into his head that I planned it anyway and tricked him into it which I didn't. He's very much in denial about the whole thing as he doesn't want any more children (he didn't really want the one we've already got, he only agreed because I wanted a baby so much). He thinks we can't afford it, and tbh he may be right about that, but it's happening so he's going to have to get used to the idea at some point.

milk · 14/03/2012 08:09

Good morning ladies Grin

squidkid, I not only want to join the "I want my scan now" group, I also want to be the first moaner of the day :)

milk · 14/03/2012 08:12

Which celebrity mums do you like?

I love Miranda Kerr :) Her boy is super cute :D

Midgetm · 14/03/2012 08:23

I am the second moaner. DH away. Back to back meetings including lunch meet. Nursery run, dog walking, before I get to work and then tickets for the football after work and I am beyond exhausted already. If I were a religious soul I would be praying right now....

Guccigirl79 · 14/03/2012 08:35

I will make it the third moaner!!! Not been on for couple of days as had booking in app Monday & felt so crap ystdy I couldnt be arsed!!!!

Angelico,i hope they dont make things more difficult for you at work than they already have now.keep your chin up & fuck em all!!!!

Just thrown up in the kitchen sink (which was REALLY pleasant!) which was triggered by the stench from the bin,its probably not that bad but my hooter is on overtime at the mo!! So to make myself feel better & the fact there is nothing in I want I'm having a rather large piece of Herman (friendship) cake that a customer have me. I know I shouldnt be having it for breakfast but I'm going with the thought that if I can keep it down then I shall eat it!!!!!!

CWest30 · 14/03/2012 10:40

Hi, can I join this thread?

Where do I start? We began trying for baby no 2 at the end of Nov last year. My cycle was a bit irregular, had a normal period at the beginning of Dec, and another one which began on New Years Eve. My next period didnt begin until the 2nd Feb, was very light, and only lasted about 4 days. (I was testing - at this time). I began a new job on the 5th March, and for some reason decided to do a test the day before.......yup, BFP! Typical haha. Although this is my second pg, have still done about 5 tests as its not sinking in, mainly because I have no symptoms. The dr is taking the 31 Dec as my LMP, but surely if I was almost 10 weeks I would be feeling something? I have slight nausea in the mornings, and around the time my period was due I had sore boobs and was tired, but I put the tiredness down to my new job. Apart from that, I feel completely normal, if a little bloated. I have been reading all about MMC and I'm sooo worried, my gut instinct is telling me something is wrong. i've got my booking in appt with the midwife tomorrow so should I say something? Had another + test this morning but I can't shake off this paranoia that something is wrong, please help :-(

Twobuttonsaway · 14/03/2012 11:24

Hi cwest30, sorry you are worrying, you are in good company here! I would def talk to your midwife about how you feel. I had an early scan a couple of weeks ago as I was worried due to lack of symptoms and I had a MMC last year which is making me super worried and sensitive. This would also sort out you date concerns too. Fingers crossed you get a nice understanding midwife. Do try not to worry too much, I had very few symptoms in the first 3 months with my DS and am not having many with this DC. I find it really hard not to worry, but ultimately what will be will be and many more beans make it than don't.

LondonMrsS · 14/03/2012 11:36

cwest you should definitely voice your concerns to your midwife, and insist that she takes them seriously. I couldn?t sleep before my early scan because I was convinced I was having an ectopic pregnancy. Now I know it isn?t, and we saw a heartbeat, but I still have moments of worry.
I think that paranoia is completely natural- I?m certainly feeling that as well because sometimes my symptoms feel completely gone! Then they come back and I feel relieved- but nauseous.
I think you can generally ignore the due date you?re given based on your LMP. I insisted to my doc that my cycle is irregular and I know exactly when I ovulated, making my cycle 45 days- but he still based his assumption on me having a 28 day cycle. My scan at 6 weeks + 2 days proved that I was right TO THE DAY! You know your body better than any doctor. No two pregnancies are the same, even within the same woman so it?s impossible to know what to expect.
I am constantly trying to reassure myself that nothing is going wrong. It?s so hard to rationalise, but the odds are always in your favour.
Hugs

ChrissieJA · 14/03/2012 12:17

6 more sleeps until my scan!!!! :)

Kyyria · 14/03/2012 13:01

I want to join the group too squidkid - not even seen the GP yet, let alone a booking appointment with the MW or a scan...GP appt a week on Friday so hopefully that will get the ball rolling.

What a horrendous morning. I'm currently doing the job of two people. To cut a long story short my boss was supposed to work the same number of hours as me (37 hours per week) and spent as much time off sick as he did on holiday, fiddled his overtime and did sweet FA when he was in. I've spent much of the last 5 years picking up after him. After having 3 months off sick last year due to work related stress and anxiety (that led to depression) I was put on antidepressants and have spent the last 10 months being back at work trying to get back into the swing of things. We've had a management consultancy in trying to help the business sort out various problems (the manager being one of them) and low and behold he went on "leave" (unspecified!!) at the beginning of January, never returned, and took retirement as of the end of February. I'm currently doing his job as well as my own (and covering bits of others) with no financial reward or any additional help - the partners occasionally pop in to help with the filing!!

Have spent this morning dealing with HR crap (even though I've not got any training), unpicking various bits of rubbish that the boss has left behind, and then finding that he's made a major cock-up with salaries that I'm going to be left dealing with and will ultimately have to fix.

They're advertising for a new manager (at half the salary) but even if they do find someone appropriate the earliest they're going to end up in post for is August. I debated applying but after the last year I felt I needed to put myself first (and then had my BFP so definitely wanted to put myself first).

Half day today so left work at 11am. Bought a tub of Hagen Daaz ice-cream on the way home and now feel better but sick(er)!!

londonlivvy · 14/03/2012 13:27

oh my, Guccigirl - poor you. I seem to feel super queasy all the time but not actually chuck. Do you feel better (or less bad) after?

Midget that is one heck of a day. I am just counting down the hours to bedtime!

Cwest that does sound stressy. I think I'd seek more knowledge if you can.

I'm hoping that the silence from the midwife means the hospital have chosen to accept us (wishful thinking) and that a booking in appt letter will be winging its way to me. Incidentally, do you bring other halves to those sort of appointments? My DP is very keen and supportive, bless him (apart from when he's away on a boys' holiday, this week!!!) and would like to come to pretty much everything I think but if it's a waste of his time as just a bunch of form-filling then I may as well say so.

Also - people keep saying things like "ask your midwife". Who is my midwife and how do I know how to contact him/her? Or will all be revealed at the booking in appointment?

LondonMrsS · 14/03/2012 13:55

londonlivvy When my GPs office (who arranged my booking in appointment) called me to schedule it, they specifically requested that we find a time that my other half was available too- I assume because they want all kinds of details of medical history from both of us.
I guess knowing who your midwife is depends on where you live and how it works round there. As I live in London, it's unlikely I'll see the same person twice so I just have the number of the local hospital's EGU to call if I have any worries.
Sleeeepy...

Guccigirl79 · 14/03/2012 14:22

In responce to ur question LondonLivvy sometimes I feel better for up chucking sometimes not! However,i went upstairs to spk to bf & could smell stale booze (he was at c'ham races all day ystdy) & it made me go again!! Been out for a decent breakfast dont feel too bad now just exhausted!

I hope the sickness doesnt start for u hun its fucks ur day up royally!!! :-)

ChrissieJA · 14/03/2012 14:35

Londonlivvy i went to UCL hospital on sat and had my checking in appointment. Both me and my boyfriend went and she asked him lots of questions too. Up until then i hadnt had any contact with a midwife- but at the meeting she gave me the mobile numbers of 2 midwives to call for help and the numbers of the hospital in case of problems.
I dont know if you are in north london but UCL seemed to have a good maternity ward. Big, clean and didnt smell of wee!!!

LondonMrsS · 14/03/2012 14:43

Chrissie did you choose UCL or is it your local? I'm automatically in The Royal London in Whitechapel because I live nearby- they didn't mention choosing or I would have looked at UCL and St Thomas' too. Having said that, Whitechapel has all been redone recently and it's quite nice- new and clean!

londonlivvy · 14/03/2012 14:53

Gucci Doesn't sound much fun. hope it eases soon. My sis chucked at least 8 times a day the whole way through to D Day and just carried a whole bunch of zip lock bags in her handbag. Apparently there's nothing like puking into a transparent bag on the tube to make sure you get a decent amount of personal space. Mad girl. I would have stayed at home.

Thanks LondonMrsS and *Chrissie" for the advice. We live in South London but are moving to Surrey, so had chosen Kingston as the nearest good place to future house (and close-ish to both our current jobs), so hopefully they'll accept us. I'd really like to get some continuity of care, even though I know it's v.unlikely I'll see the same person twice, it still being a high turnover sort of place. I'll plan for DP to be there anyway and he can always work from his phone if not required.

ChrissieJA · 14/03/2012 15:15

hi LondonMrsS - we did choose UCL ourselves. We are closest to Homerton but didnt like it. The doctor told us we can choose where to have the birth. Obviously not all hospitals will accept you if you are trying to choose one that?s miles away from where you live. I was also told that you can change your mind. So if you visit the hospital for your scan and don?t like it, or if you move, you can then opt for a different hospital. We went online and researched some stats on birth rates- there was a website we found that rated all the London hospitals for births. It gave stats on the number of births, C-sections, problems etc. UCL was rated one of the best so we went for that one. Hope that helps!

londonlivvy · 14/03/2012 16:47

PHEW!!! Kingston are going to take us! YAY. And we should get a letter by the weekend to let us know the first appointment. #very relieved.

squidkid · 14/03/2012 17:00

I don't know whether it's sunshine, actually doing exercise for the past two days, or the fact I'm so nearly in the second trimester, but I am starting to feel soooo much better... light at the end of the tunnel!!! Still knackered and nauseous in the mornings, but that extra bit of energy in the afternoons is glorious... reconsidering my hiking holiday right now!!

Off to the theatre tonight, boy has free tickets, very glam! talk soon xxx

Hello ladies,

Forgive me for butting in. We've had a couple of suggestions that this thread would be better places in our Antenatal Clubs section. Is that something you'd all like? Or should we leave you where you are?

Thanks
MNHQ

bella2012 · 14/03/2012 19:58

evening all! Just enjoyed a nice catch-up of all your news. Great to hear about all the reassuring scans, ladies nearly at their scans and the light at the end of the tunnel of symptoms lifting! I have had a rubbish day at work with no frees and rehearsals both before school and lunchtime. This coincided with the most sickly day EVER! Also, my ds was bitten quite badly by another boy at nursery today, poor little thing. He coped with it really well and the nursery dealt with it well too, i just feel so sorry for him. I have cheered up a lot now that i am home and dh is in tonight to do bedtime so that i can have a quiet minute. Bliss!

So sorry to hear about how badly your school are treating you angelico. I can't see their logic in canclling an academic a-level. Surely they willdiscourage students from staying at a-level if they do not offer the full range of academic a-levels. I would be interestted to know what you define as a mickeymouse a-level? Anything with studies in the title?

Smorgs · 14/03/2012 20:40

Evening ladies!

Well it's official. My arse is the size of Alaska. Im thinking of inviting displaced communities to take up residence on it. Skipped yoga for the third time in a row tonight Blush and that combined with eating utter, utter crap has led to expansion at an alarming rate. My lip also developed a huge cold sore within half an hour this afternoon, which is another highly unattractive look. Oh and the tiredness I thought was going has come back with a vengeance. I feel like I am walking through treacle. All this and still no bump Hmm.

squid I meant to reply to you yesterday - glad to hear you're feeling better.
londonlivvy great news you got the hospital you wanted!
Kyyria and angelico sorry to hear your work is rubbish - I find out if my contract is being renewed beginning of April, about the same time I should be telling them I'm pregnant, so feel very uneasy about everything right now. It's not pleasant is it?

Right, off for my first blood test tomorrow morning. We don't have booking appointments etc over here so I only get to see my doc again after the ultrasound on March 30. Will have SO many questions for her.

Hello RowanMumsnet - really don't mind moving if we're in the wrong place, I noticed there was an antenatal group for October too so it seems silly having 2. But then I'm fairly new here so I'll go with what the 'elders' want!

Who fancies a laugh? I nearly died of embarrasment today, I am definately pregnant-- I have completely lost my marbles!!!!

So today I visited my little old man that I do shopping/run errands for and he lives on the second floor of an independent warden controlled care home. After dropping off his shopping and having a chat I proceeded to leave and get in the lift back down to the ground floor. I press the Ground floor button and off I go, thinking about pregnancy and all sorts of bits. The lift dinged and I got out.. Running into two old ladies who also live there. So I say hello, turn left to go up the corridor to exit out the front door... No corridor. Its a wall with two doorways.
I'm thinking "What the f* is going on? There was a corridor here 20 minutes ago!!!" The two ladies are staring at me.. "Are you alright dear? I think you're on the wrong floor.."
It then hits me (after about 2 minutes of gormless staring at the door that says 'Boiler Room' that is not, in fact, a corridor) that the ladies pressed the call button for the lift and it stopped on the first floor before taking me to the Ground floor....
So basically moral of the story is, I am a complete nutcase, pregnancy has ADDLED MY BRAINS I TELL YOU.

I hope this all provided you with a laugh. My mum nearly died when I told her. Pretty sure the entirety of the care home think I am an absolute loon. I am going to go to bed and see if my brain cells decide to wander back in...
Hope you all had a good day my ladies, XX

CWest30 · 14/03/2012 21:14

Thank you for the help ladies.....will let you know tomorrow how I get on after I've seen the midwife. I have pre-existing medical conditions, which ensured in my last pregnancy that I was very well looked after, and kept an eye on, so maybe that will go in my favour tomorrow and grant me an early scan. Will keep you all informed though, blessings xxx
