The third instalment as we're a talkative bunch!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Much, much love for oranges! I bite into them to rip the skin off - completely grosses DH out.

Speaking of food, DH is at work today and I was going to cook something. But I've lost all inspiration for food, have a fridge full of veg I have no interest in eating but feel guilty about wasting, and have been trawling through recipes for the last hour. Had to text DH to say I should not be in charge of food.

squidkid · 11/03/2012 14:41

... and also I am leaving my current job at 13 weeks, so I'm happy I've got the scan before I go and I can finally apologise for being useless/exhausted/asleep/stupid/tearful/hormonal for the last 2 months!

squidkid · 11/03/2012 14:45

bettybat I am like that, I manage to eat if something is in front of me but I used to get so much pleasure out of cooking and making up recipes... now I just stare at ingredients and think, meh.

Here is what I made for my parents last night if you are interested:
cooked some pasta,
heated lots of halved cherry tomatoes and olives in a pan,
mixed it with the drained pasta and stirred through basil and rocket and mozzarella* and some olive oil,

that went down well, just with chunks of bread, really simple and boring but everyone loved it, sunshine food.

*possibly I am not allowed to eat mozzarella, I didn't check and I'd rather not know now!!

DameFlatYouLent · 11/03/2012 14:48

milk I can sympathise with the sense of smell. When my DS' nappy needs changing I have to block off my nose immediately because I can smell him a mile away. Changing the damn nappy is another thing - I'm amazed I haven't chundered all over him yet.

I've finally got my scan date - have to wait until 3rd April, when I'll be 13 weeks Angry That's just over 3 weeks away, arrggghhhhh!! Waiting to tell people is killing me!

squidkid · 11/03/2012 14:53

Oh god, I am worrying about my hot water bottle now! I used that loads a few weeks ago when it was so cold!

bettybat · 11/03/2012 14:59

squidkidd that sounds delicious but DH is all "I'm paleo dude, we don't do refined.." Hahahaha! He just about eats rice and last night we had take away curry so it's not all veg and protein ;)

Just watched the British women take gold in the 4x400m relay - all the commentators could do was squeak - hahahaha!

squidkid · 11/03/2012 15:10

What's refined? You don't eat carbs or summat?
My stock diet pre-pregnancy was mostly protein with some veg, I admit. I ate fish about 4 times a week, and raw when I could get it (I'm so weird). Now I appear to be a vegetarian who is eating more bread. Still don't like sweet stuff.
If your boyfriend is that fussy he can bloody cook! I hate fussy eaters. I hate that I have BECOME a fussy eater even more :)

bettybat · 11/03/2012 15:23

Maybe refined is the wrong word? Processed. We (mostly) agree between us that human's are at their healthiest when consuming a "cave man" diet - basically anything you can find in nature that doesn't require processing to turn into something else - so breads, pasta, wheats, grains, cereals etc.

Our diet mostly consists of vegetables, high quality protein, fish, nuts, fruit and paleo "versions" of things so like today, I'm making a paelo cheesecake (I'm kind of cheating because I'm using soft cheese) but the base will be made of nuts and butter, rather than digestives. Most recipes are doable with a little tweaking and we do have rice maybe once a week. Lots of Asian recipes, particularly south east Asia, are most paleo friendly.

But yeah tons of natural carbs from potatoes, yams, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, broccoli etc. Just not processed.

I've eaten tons of fish so far in my pregnancy - the only things I've conceded on are caffeine and shellfish. I'm not really even craving anything I cut out pre-pregnancy like bread, and I just feel a hundred times better not having bread. But I just feel so ambivalent about food right now :(

bettybat · 11/03/2012 15:24

Weird - I did do paragraph breaks in that post ^ Promise!

squidkid · 11/03/2012 15:28

That sounds quite similar to what I (used to) eat anyway, though I didn't have any rules, that's just the stuff I like. I do eat pasta and bread though, but I'd always eat considerably more vegetables than pasta in a dish, etc. It just tastes(ed) better! I cook a lot of indian, pakistani, sri lankan, thai, japanese, vietnamese, italian, spanish stuff. And sometimes yorkshire puddings :)

I miss my cooking enthusiasm as much as I miss my sporting enthusiasm!
-prays for 2nd trimester to be as wonderful as people claim-

Midgetm · 11/03/2012 15:31

Afternoon all,

Over achieved today and now feel like limp biscuit. Sat on the sofa watching Columbo whilst DH takes the dog for a run and DD is with friends. I was going to go to the gym but the thought of picking up the bag is tiring me out - let alone actually doing anything when I get there. I've also over doesed on Phish foood frozen yoghurt and may puke in my handbag.

Bettybat Little things turn into big things with the hormones raging. Just try to focus on things you can change - not what if's. Easier said than done I know and I wish I could take my own advice rather than wanting to kill that poor boy on the W3 last night. I also seem to have lost my passion for cooking. I too just stare at things. Managed to rustle up spag bol yesterday which seemed like a minor miracle. Soup and sandwiches seems to be what the bean wants, that and ice cream and yoghurt.

Squid Mozerella is just fine. Not that you wanted to know but I am pretty sure it is. Laughing to myself at your BP (Well more at myself). That is what mine is pre pregnancy so I have made a deliberate attempt to stay away from checking mine. The machine keeps winking at me but I will not let it lure me in. I set off hospital machines at the best of times, I am a medical freak. Dread to think what mine is currently. Sorry to hear you have had a crazy week but nice to have you back.

Milk my sense of smell is imense which is not so cool when you live in London and often get public transport. Man, some people stink. And I can smell booze on someones breath at 20 paces. Loved a drink myself just a few weeks ago but now the smell makes me shudder.

Because I am so tiny I do think I look fairly obviously pregnant. Maybe becasue I have been so many times before. I have put on 1lb but my shape has changed completely. Still in my clothes but trying to go for things that aren't too tight and hide the muffin top, when in tight clothes it is totally obvious. And I am only 7 weeks. Maybe a pooh baby but still my lower stomach has gone from flat to rotund already. Have to say I love it. Trying not to get carried away with myself but can't stop stroking it already. Grow bean, grow. If the bean sticks I am going to treat myself to some right fancy maternity clothes but not till quite a bit later. Rambling now. feel envious of you girls in double figures now. 11 weeks seems miles away! Slowly slowly catch monkey. Take care bean ovens.

For some reasons paragraphs are elluding me...

YompingJo · 11/03/2012 15:32

I is off to buy oranges Grin

Midgetm · 11/03/2012 15:34

Posts crossed but who has stolen our ability to make paragraphs?

HaggisNeepsTatties · 11/03/2012 15:38

Ouch...I have a new symptom today. Pain in my coccyx. It is so sore right at the very top of my but cheeks, and not helped by the fact that I've not poo'd for days and am very "windy"
Whenever I get up from sitting down or vice versa it's agony, as it is when I try to go for a poo.

I'm just back from a 6 mile walk and feel so much better for that, but hoping this pain goes away soon :(

OP posts:
milk · 11/03/2012 15:43

bettybat, my scan is 28th March at 4pm :D

DameFlatYouLent, I have to wear a scarf over my nose/mouth when I change DS nappies :(

YompingJo- enjoy :)

squidkid · 11/03/2012 16:08

midgetm you sound very titchy and spectacular. I am a smallish person but my sister-in-law is around 4'11" and doesn't fill size 6s, buying her maternity gear was a right nightmare! :o She is the only person who makes me feel oversized! (She eats cake on the hour, puts 500g butter in a single recipe, and hasn't exercised since she was 18 so we make a lot of tapeworm jokes, heh.) It's quite common for young women to have very low BPs (90, 80 even) and it doesn't usually bother them - but mine was never low before, is all.

Is this going to be a new paragraph let's see... I also am craving a bump!! I think the boobs are taking away any bump impact!

Midgetm · 11/03/2012 16:25

squid titchy, yes, spectacular, no. Also short but not quite as short as your SIL. Everytine I got pregnant I put on weight. As this is my 9th time I put on rather a lot! I decided I would never get another bean to stick so went hell for leather to get as fit as I possibly could, 2 years of dedicated mania. My best friend thinks this bean will stick as its gods way of messing with me now I finally got my figure back. I do hope shes right! Can't wait to have a huge bump. Bloody love a bump.

HeeHeeHeeBum · 11/03/2012 16:55

Hi all. I'm totally understanding the reduced ability to exercise. I have just been trying to tidy up my garden but after about 20 minutes I'm so tired and out of breath that I can barely get up. I usually do loads of gardening and grow loads of veggies but lifting a few pots has left me so exhausted. Home grown veg would really have helped the healthy diet this year. Oh well.

squid your pasta sounds lovely. I am eating lots of bread and pasta at the moment, I seem to have carb mania. It has been a good day cooking wise - I have made two amazing sourdough loaves. I have weighed myself and seem to have only gained a pound. Not sure how this has happened as I've been craving everything and eating loads. My MIL cut up a tomato yesterday and I literally wanted to snatch it from her plate!

I seem to have cured my constipation problem - low fat greek yoghurt and muesli for breakfast everyday.

11 days until my scan!

30, 10+5, #1

bettybat · 11/03/2012 16:59

I'm loving all this embracing putting on weight - it's to create the bean ovens (TM Midgetm hahaha!)

It's taken me years to be happy with my figure - short, hour glass, put on weight VERY easily, and only a mixed race husband with a love of massive bums made me realise the niceness of it. I grew up longing to be tall and willowy, growing up in the shadow of "heroin chic" culture but maybe because he group up with 9 (yes, 9!) West Indian aunties with wonderful shelf bums, it's a norm for him. Who knows - all I know is he worships The Rump but not unlike Kim Kardashian, I remain committed to the squat. The difference between my waist and hips pre pregnancy was 13 inches - I'm not even going to think about it from now! All I know is my silhouette will look HUGE from the side (big bum, big tum) but I really couldn't care less. It's a baby Grin

I just figure - labour will be the most incredible endurance event we will ever commit ourselves to, so to be fit makes sense. But I'm not going to sweat it if I put on 1,2,3 stone - but equally, I'm going to kick this sudden mass chocolate affair in the bud now and feed my sesame healthy things it needs me to eat :)

squidkid · 11/03/2012 17:03

Heeheeheebum my scan's on the 21st! 3.40pm. We'll be scan buddies. So exciting.

I am very envious of your lovely garden. What do you grow? I live in a flat so I have no garden. It's a gorgeous spacious light flat with river views and a place you can sit by the river and loads of character and brilliantly located so I'm not complaining at all, but I am still envious of people with gardens.

My constipation seems to have cleared up too, and I'm not sure how I haven't put on weight either... probably the veggies. Sourdough bread sounds amazing. Oh I'm hungry/sick again now...

bettybat · 11/03/2012 17:06

Sourdough bread is amazing - just like bagels! (I do actually really miss bagels/sourdough bread)

squidkid · 11/03/2012 17:06

bettybat It's all about the T&A. Or so I tell myself, being another shortie with an hourglass! Boyfriends are usually fans, anyhow :)

HeeHeeHeeBum · 11/03/2012 17:09

squid This year I will probably stick to salads, tomatoes, aubergines, beans, peas and herbs in my garden and some potatoes and onions in my allotment. I usually grow as many different veggies as I can cram in but something tells me I will find it more difficult this year.

Your walks in the peak district sound lovely. I grew up in the midlands and used to love going there for walks. Where I live now is so flat.

squidkid · 11/03/2012 17:14

oh my god, there is nothing in the world nicer than fresh peas popped out the pod!

Yeah I would go crazy without hills and views, whether urban ones or country ones. Keeps my legs in good shape too :)

squidkid · 11/03/2012 17:18

Right it's so beautiful I'm getting my lazy arse off the sofa and going for a sunset river walk with the boy xxxx take care lovely pregnant ladies xxx
