PreciousPuddleduck · 03/05/2012 11:02

Hi, pains are better today so maybe it was the stress of a 12 hour day at work. Definitely ready for mat leave now.

katykuns · 03/05/2012 11:10

Littleray - I am very anxious about how my daughter will cope with baby. She is 5, and can get very jealous when we show lots of attention to her cousins! I have a feeling it may be a rude awakening for her!
Hoping that the people that offer their help when baby arrives might actually take her out and do fun things to make it all seem less negative lol.
How is your DD btw? Is she recovering from the nasty illness?
I have bought Faith some little presents 'from Baby', which I am hoping will sweeten the deal lol.

My appetite seems to have gone the opposite way and I am eating more... and lots of carbs! :S only downside is that my body really isn't coping on the digestion front :( lots of trapped wind and constipation... very very uncomfortable!

iowmum - happy birthday for the other day :)

Cewafwb · 03/05/2012 11:48

Well if you ask DS3 (3.5) about the baby he will tell you there is no baby coz its been run over and is dead!!! That has been going on since we told him! And if its a girl he is going to shoot it! Nice! He is usually a lovely little boy, so not entirely sure how to deal with that! x

Wommer · 03/05/2012 12:30

Wow cewafwb that's quite extreme! What are the older two like?

Cewafwb · 03/05/2012 12:51

Rather unconcerned about it thankfully although would like me to 'get it out' now so they can have hugs without it in the way! DS3 is such a sweet boy, but properly the youngest as the gap is 21 months between the first two so they are almost twins in terms of how they play together and get treated too and the next gap is 30 months which is big enough that DS3 is the youngest if you know what I mean. It will help him when dc4 is here and big enough to play, but right now he doesn't go to 'big school' (september) so is here most afternoons and has a lot of Mummy time. Not entirely sure he has actually worked out that he isn't going to be the youngest anymore, don't think they work it out at 3, but he knows somethings up. I am pretty sure he doesn't mean it, but it does come out every now and then!

PreciousPuddleduck · 03/05/2012 12:54

Does anybody else have mixed feelings about starting mat leave?? Obviously I am really looking forward to having our baby but it feels odd to leave work and have to adapt to a reduced income. I know it's worth it etc etc but it is still a little unsettling for me...

PreciousPuddleduck · 03/05/2012 12:54

Maybe I'm bonkers ;-)

Wommer · 03/05/2012 15:33

Sorry puddleduck absolutely nothing mixed in my feelings about finishing work for 6 months! Can. Not. Wait!!!
But then I hate my job so that would be why!
I guess if I loved what I did and had good friends in the office that could be quite different.

Xx

SirCharles · 03/05/2012 16:19

Hi puddleduck - I had mixed feelings about taking a pause from work but DH has been working overseas since early 2011, leaving me with my career in London, so we were finding it difficult to conceive as we only had every other weekend together throughout 2011. SO, I actually took annual leave this Jan and unpaid leave in Feb & March to join him in sunnier climes before starting mat leave in April..... so I have had plenty of time to get used to the idea of not working!!!!

The 3 month break over the British winter was supposed to be our final hurrah and conception holiday before DH & I settled down as grown ups...... ha ha! As soon as I put that application in for unpaid leave my body must have decided I was relaxed enough to conceive. V funny really :)

What I would say is that I was perturbed by how little I missed work but I am sooo over that now.

I say this as a qualified professional with a set career path who used to work 10 hours a day regularly and could easily clock up a 100 hour week when a big project was on.
In Q1 this year I was effectively on holiday for 3 months whilst DH went to work every day and I did very little, except go to the gym, read books, chill out, get used to my own company and cook dinner every day - ie I was not dashing about seeing people or doing much. DH & I did stuff together at the weekends of course.

I DID NOT MISS WORK AT ALL & I still dont, despite popping into the office for a couple of days in the last few weeks to catch up with people and sort out end of year personal review stuff...... I am sure once B arrives there will be times when I would rather be at work because a) small babies can be quite boring and b) raising children is very hard work but I reckon I will be too preoccupied for the next 3-6 months to think about that!!

As for the money element - well I think that depends on your relationship with your DP & money ...... we have a joint account into which most of our money goes. Whats mine is his and whats his is mine.... (it has been like this for a few years & during that time I earned more than him for a period and he earned more than me for a time too). Joint finances make it so much easier. We also view this period as a team effort so the fact our income is reduced is not seen as a reduction in "my income" but a reduction in "our income". It is a slight shift in perception but helps. He brings home the bacon, I raise the baby. we remain as equals...... he trusts I am not going to spend our money on a new Mulberry handbag and I trust he is not going to buy a new Ducati motorbike. of course treats are encouraged so he has bought me gifts and I have baked him cakes :) With limited funds he will only buy gifts he knows i want so although they usually come as a surprise I have usually given him a hint. (he ignores many of my "hints"!). Of course we will also have to reduce our expectations re new clothes, eating out, wine purchases and holidays but tbh they are all material luxuries so we can cope with that. It does mean we have to talk more about money than we do naturally - which we both find a little difficult and we also have to rein each other in too....... we are indeed becoming very grown up!!!

Enjoy your mat leave pre baby - it will be the last time for a long time when you can do what you want when you want to do it...... (or so I am told!).

alwaysanauntie · 04/05/2012 10:23

Morning all, precious I can understand your reservations about starting mat leave, I was so happy to as we have a mammoth amount of work to do on the house & I was worried it wouldn't get done in time, but if you're totally organised the I guess it could get a bit boring :o

I just about managed to clear our spare room yesterday either for dm coming to wallpaper next week or for homebirth, whichever happens first! I've been getting mild period type cramps last night and this morning, not sure if it's just the Lo moving down into position or (very) early labour signs (i think positioning is more likely but am hopeful I won't be going too far over my due date... :) )

Am hoping to do some more clearing today to bin all the rubbish around the house & possibly start grouting the bathroom but I have been saying that all week and not done anything about it yet :o we shall see...

Wommer · 04/05/2012 16:04

always that sounds very industrious! Can't remember what your edd is?

Am on my final commute for 6 months.... Am loving that fact!!!

Xxx

alwaysanauntie · 04/05/2012 16:48

Wommer I'm due on the 15th but as the lo has definitely moved lower I thought is better sort something out in case she makes an early appearance! I didn't actually do anything other than wash bed sheets today anyway, but will make up for it over the weekend when I'll have DH around to make me feel guilty! Yay for your last commute :o have yourself a well deserved lie in tomorrow.

Littlerayofsunshine · 04/05/2012 21:12

Hi All,

Will update soon. Current situation is - stomach bug. :(
Hope you're all well.

Wommer · 04/05/2012 22:14

always I would have thought the dh being around was a reason to move into a "supervisory" role Grin
I've got a feeling about next Thursday - that would make me 10 days early... At least the dreams I've had about waters going on the train today didn't come true!

On that subject... Do you always know when your waters go? Ive been (TMI!!) getting more "damp" recently which could be a change in cm/discharge type stuff (although more like water than cm - in denial that could also be stress incontinence!) but was also not sure if that's what broken waters could be like?

littleray sorry you've still got a sick house Sad hope you guys get better soon

Xx

Wommer · 05/05/2012 08:16

Urgh.... Worst nights sleep ever!!
I had no clue that once it had gone because the baby had dropped so you need the loo all the time Heartburn could come BACK!! I had thought I'd moved past that particular gem!!
It actually made me sick last night and had to do a 2:30 dash for a)the loo and b) the Gaviscon!
Will NOT miss that post pg. at all.

alwaysanauntie · 05/05/2012 08:37

littleray poor you, I wonder if there's something going round as 2 ladies on the other may thread who are 2+ timers also have horrid sounding bugs. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids & try to eat little & often to keep your energy up, even if it's only biscuits! :)

Wommer my heartburn comes & goes whenever it fancies, never had it bad enough to make me spew (apart from when you burp & get a bit coming up) but did have humungous leg cramp at 5am which made me swear loudly enough to wake DH, oops! Still hurts so am in bath trying to ease the muscles at the mo. On the waters/cm front, I've been using panty liners for the last month or more as increased watery discharge leading to soggy knickers wasn't a pleasant feeling! As far as I've read waters can break in many different ways from gush to trickle but it's usually only after the first stage of labour has started so unlikely to catch you out iykwim, plus more likely to be constant trickling rather than the odd spurt you'd get with stress incontinence, so should be possible to tell difference between these. As I have no personal experience don't take that as gospel though, and as we know from all our pg stories, everyone is different :o

Hope everyone has a nice weekend & pg sickness & niggles etc leave us alone for a bit!

Cewafwb · 05/05/2012 08:50

I promise you - you will know without a shadow of a doubt whether your waters have broken. Have no fear - there is no way you won't know! x

Rugbylovingmum · 05/05/2012 09:53

Hi all,

crappy nights sleep here too Sad. I have itchy excema patches on my elbows and ankles again (I bloody hope this disappears after the birth - I've never had excema before and it's awful!), sore hips, heartburn and the baby seems to spend all night kicking, punching and twisting about. Luckily DP has taken DD out this morning so I can relax for a bit, she is being a little sweetheart at the moment but she is so full of energy I am struggling to keep up with her all day. I worked out that I only have 3 full days left with just the 2 of us before my c-section on the 15th (the other days DP is off too or she is at nursery) and it's started me worrying about how she'll cope when the baby arrives. I'm feeling really emotional this morning and worrying that she will feel left out or upset when she has to share us with the new baby and that I won't manage very well with 2DC. DD is such a happy, confident, loving little girl and I'd hate for that to change at all. I know it's silly really - I didn't know how I'd manage being a mummy at all before DD but it has been great so I'm sure I'll adjust to having 2DC as well but the hormones are kicking in today so I'm stressed and just want to have a little cry Sad.

Littleray - I hope that you are feeling better today.

Wommer - hurray for an end to commuting and starting ML. No idea about the waters I'm afraid as mine didn't break last time. I'm with you on looking forward to the heartburn going after the birth!

I hope everyone has a lovely relaxing weekend and we all get some much needed sleep Smile.

LimeFlower · 05/05/2012 11:15

Hello everybody :) hope all of you bumps including are fine :)

Just popping from the other May thread in antenatal forum with a friendly question whether you'd fancy a merge into post natal May thread please don't kill the messenger

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1429874-May-be-Babies-The-Third-Trimester?pg=1

I'm on this thread in the stats but I wasn't too active here-sorry,just found it awkward to write the same stuff on both threads.

Any takers?

Bodeccia · 05/05/2012 13:23

Afternoon ladies

I didn't realise there was another May baby thread going on, there would be loads of us if we were all put together!

Today is my EDD, and as you can expect, I am still pregnant (mine isn't one of the 5% then...).

I totally hear you about the heartburn (chocolate Nesquick has been my saviour. Oh, and not eating after 6pm, and cutting down on bread), the aching hips at night and the general fatigue. I can now add restless legs to the list (thanks, body!)

Well, I hope you're all bumping along nicely. Has anyone on this thread had their baby yet? We're still waiting for our first May baby. I don't think it will be me, although I am eating fresh pineapple as I write this.

SammyB1985 · 05/05/2012 18:31

Hi Ladies!! Well I joined this group on 23rd April and I started nesting that day - started contracting on 24th and gave birth to my beautiful baby boy by natural water birth on the 25th!! I think you ladies kicked off my labour! lol!

My baby Jack was born at 10:28am on 25th April weighing 7lbs 8oz and 21 inches long and he is absolutely beautiful!

I'm just reading through the posts so not sure if any of you have had your little ones yet either, but I will have a read through now, hope you're all doing well! :)

iowmum88 · 05/05/2012 18:48

Congratulations sammyB that's excellent!!! Your the 1st but hopefully things will get started now!!

hippieshake · 05/05/2012 18:48

Congratulations Sammy I bet he's just perfect!!

No May babies yet (I don't think). x

SammyB1985 · 05/05/2012 19:06

Thanks iowmum88 and hippieshake he is just amazing, can't believe he's 10 days old already!

I woke at 9am on Tuesday 24th with period pain like cramps and thought it was from a dodgy take away the night before as my fiance wasn't feeling great either, but by 10am i realised they were every 10 minutes. I had promised to take my mum to town as she's in a wheelchair at the moment from snaping her achilles tendon so we took her to town and by 1pm my contractions had got to every 5 minutes. I didn't tell my mum though because I knew she would panic. I drove her home about 5pm and then got home and caled the hospital and they said it sounded like I was in early labour and to have a bath as i seemed to be coping with the contractions ok. I had a bath and waited it out at home until 4am wednesday 25th april and then called the hospital. The nurse i spoke to really didn't want me to come in and tried putting me off saying it was busy, but i said I was coming in. I got there at 5:30 am and you could just tell she thought she would be sending me home because i could talk to her through the contractions. Anyway, she eventually agreed to check me and was really patronising saying 'don't be disheartened if nothing's happening, if it isn't then I can always do a stretch and see if we can get something moving' and when she checked me i was 5cm already! :o) you should have seen her face lol :o) so they admitted me and classed me as in active labour as of 6am. I went in the birthing pool at 8am, ate some toast in there at 9am then started gas and air. By 9:45am I told the midwife I needed checking, I was 9.5cm dilated with a tiny rim of cervix left and waters still in tact and i started getting the urge to push. Got back in the pool and fought off the urge to push for a little while until i coul hold it no more and then started pushing. Jack was still in his waters trying to come out so she had to break them when his head was coming out and after 10 minutes of pushing he was out! I got a 2nd degree perineal tear which wasnt nice getting stitched, but it's not been too bad since getting home and is healing great. I was so lucky to get the natural birth I wanted and such a straight forward and quick labour, I hope you ladies are all just as lucky! xx

Littlerayofsunshine · 05/05/2012 19:46

Always I think there must be something going around, DD had it for 6 days, I feel better today. so just a 3 day thing for me. but dear lord the worst 3 days in a long time.

A few updates: I spent Thursday at MAU as I really wasnt well, breathlessness, weakness, painful hips, bh's etc. had lots of tests done, Iron level is luckily good, ECG's all fine. they put the lethargy down to late stages of pregnancy, and now down to the bug....... baby is all well, and when MW came back in , she said "Oh, You're in labour?!" I said oh really? And she said well you're contracting every 5 minutes... I was just laid down, and just said yea tis is what my BH's do, and she said well its only a matter of time before they do turn into stronger contractions. (this is what happened with DD 4 days before I had her) she doesnt think i'll reach 40weeks. who knows. she did an internal to check if i was dilating or not. no dilation yet but my cervix has already gone soft, when its usually still hard at this stage. but is still at the back. Next MW check, on weds, I'm hoping baby hasnt gone back to back, because with this diarrhoea it made my tummy go very odd positions and MW said its due to my bowel movements annoying baby really so would make it try to steer clear. so we'll see.

Rugby Throughout this pregnancy, I have had annoying patches of eczema on my fingers. SO horrid.

Congratulations SammyB :)

Are any of you (especially 2nd timers) starting to think - "oooo, that pain is soon to come :S ouch! ?? I am calm mostly, but due to the situation etc i just feel anxious now. and especially how quick DD's labour was. I just really hope it goes well, and not end up labouring at home, PPH, baby end up flying out and tearing me to shreads. I know im being silly thinking this but I just feel like its near now. and starting to think Woah... thats got to happen again. I just hope I get a good warning, with DD it literally was smash, bang, wallop straight into intensity. a slight gear up, but not really gradual. and her labour was classed as just under 4hrs, and established labour 2hrs..

Sorry for long post
