evening lovely pregnant ladies

So happy to read about people's scans showing good news. And big sympathies to the poor ladies whose morning sickness is so bad.

I'm tired tonight, hard day at work, went to help a mate finish moving house afterwards. I'm not OCD or anything (unlike twice a day hoovering boyfriend) but she just had piles of random clothes and pots everywhere rather than boxed up and it was such a mess. She's a very good friend and I was going to tell her I was pregnant but she was tired and stressed so it didn't seem a good time. Anyway it was an hour of carrying stuff to the car then carrying it up 2 flights of stairs to the new flat, that will do me for a workout for today... at least it's Friday yay. Came home and went straight out again to the cinema to see another mate and watched The Artist, very cute film. OK I am exhausted now though. Going to eat toast and go to bed...

Off to London tomorrow, big party, bit nervous about it. I am usually a happy little party kid, not a massive drinker, but will put away a few, get tipsy and dance all night. I have no energy at all. Bit nervous that everyone will notice and I'm not ready to tell everyone yet. My best friend, the one I told the other day, he'll be there, at least, maybe he'll look after me. Boyfriend is coming with me too.

Hope everyone has a nice evening/weekend!

missbone Nah... we're both 32. I feel like I'm getting younger not older though, I quite enjoyed turning 30. "DP" is a bit too cutesy a term for me, and I'm not married (don't want to get married either), so I am kind of stuck with calling him my boyfriend, or the boy. He calls me his partner occasionally, and I make a face and say "are we a law firm?"

Zara1984 · 24/02/2012 21:35

Evening all! Been watching recorded One Born Every Minute on the Sky box and blubbing away. Much harder to watch when you're actually preggers!

Gosh sounds like everyone is in need of feet up and a relax this weekend! squidkid hope you have an excellent weekend in London! Thanks to littlepurpleprincess and heartbeep.... rough week for the two of you. Commiserations to all those with morning sickness... blergh. I'm feeling a bit sicky in the afternoons but it's not full nausea yet.

Am such a nerdbot, got very excited to receive a letter from the maternity hospital today! Scheduled for 17 April for my 2 hour "booking in" appointment at 12 weeks. That's fantastic so it means I will get 3 scans before 12 weeks! 18 days until my first scan.... argh! Am irritated at the dreadful leaflet that was enclosed explaining the first appointment.... with a typo/grammar error in every paragraph! Errr if you can't spell, can you deliver babies safely..?!?! Actually tempted to offer to rewrite it for them for free. Part of my job involves editing a publication, so I get extremely annoyed at poor writing....

Zara1984 · 24/02/2012 21:49

For some reason the Thanks didn't appear! Thanks for littlepurpleprincess and heartbeep on feeling so rotten. :)

Zara1984 · 24/02/2012 21:50

Welcome tartymcfarty Grin congrats! Well at least you had a week of fun on holiday before getting your BFP - a nice surprise!

FjordMor · 24/02/2012 22:26

Checking in as I'm so knackered and had such bad MS all day yesterday (no puking but like being totally seasick, dizzy and headache). However, have no right to moan compared to poor heartbeep and lpp. Hope things get better guys Thanks.

Baby brain has me again today in the 'brain dead' kind of way. Waddled round Ikea earlier with DP and have decided that if I carry on getting bigger at this rate, I won't be able to drive or walk by month 5!

turnwest - I've had shoulder pain in my left shoulder, but am sleeping on it most nights so have put it down to that.

Zoeplankton - I've had a small fissure for a while that sometimes feels like I'm being but by a knife inside when I go and bleeds (but not all the time). I defo going to try that oil. Thanks so much for recommending! :)

Angelico - I feel for you. I had 2 colds back to back at the start of this pregnancy, fever & all. One before I knew for sure but suspected. I used olbas oil in steam, olbas inhaler and lots of lemon juice - squeezed in hot water or drops put up nose (sounds gross but works really well for sinus blockage which I get often). Hope you feel better soon Thanks.

missbone · 24/02/2012 22:32

Tartymcfarty, congratulations and welcome Thanks

Much sympathy for you both, LPP & Heartbeep, sounds utterly hellish!

Zara, I am exactly the same re. grammar (I have an annoying habit of correcting friends' spelling mistakes on Facebook, and don't get me started on the subject of menus in cafes; I have been known to inform the vacuous and evidently disaffected waitress that [her] spelling is crap and they don't know when to use apostrophes: jacket potato's, anyone??!) Zara, can you tell me, please, how I would go about looking for editing work, please?

Mathsy & DameIceandaSlice...are you both o.k? Let us know how you are x

Squidkid, I don't like the whole 'DP' thing, either, but I'm considering proposing to Michael on the 29th, so.........Hmm

missbone · 24/02/2012 22:33

Zara, apologies for the two 'pleases'!!

Zara1984 · 24/02/2012 23:04

missbone I'm not really sure the best way of picking up editing work (depends on your experience I guess??) but a usual way these days is through websites like Elance. Unfortunately you're competing against mega-cheap editing companies based in SE-Asia.

Editing is only about 1/5 of my role (I work at a legal NGO) but it is very interesting! I'd suggest if you want to get some experience of it you could perhaps volunteer your services to NGOs/charities that produce regular publications (especially a smaller one who might not have a dedicated person in-house)? Initially unpaid unfortunately but a great way to get an in later with an actual publishing company I reckon. Where I work is quite lucky to have a person to edit publications (ie me!) - most don't - in fact right now at work we're helping to place postgrad students with another NGO to edit their quarterly publication while the staff member responsible is on mat leave. NGOs/charities would be hugely appreciative and likely to give stellar references to publishing companies for paid work!!

Alternatively you could advertise to postgrad universities to edit/proofread dissertations or theses (charge them for it, obviously!). This is something I used to do while I was doing postgrad study myself and you will be surprised how enquiries you could get - especially from students whose first language isn't English. Not enough to pay all the bills but can be good scratch!

Not sure if any of this helps??? Perhaps you have more experience of editing and know more than me??!

Meanwhile, I am sorely tempted to rewrite this dreadful leaflet the hospital sent me over the weekend and email it to their management INSISTING that they use my replacement text! Honestly, they're supposed to be instilling confidence in their patients...!

TartyMcFarty · 25/02/2012 07:46

Thanks for the welcome. Did a CB digital this morning and def pg! About 5 weeks according to that Smile Look forward to nattering with you all!

Midgetm · 25/02/2012 07:52

Congratulations Tarty and welcome aboard. Why am I awake? Slept on a room that smelt of paint. Bad idea as my hypersensitive sense of smell went into overdrive. I am like a bloody sniffer dog. Hope you are all doing good this morning x

HeeHeeHeeBum · 25/02/2012 08:11

Morning everyone! I'm glad it's the weekend, work has been so hard this week with my trying not to fall asleep at my desk. I came home, watched Star Wars and went straight to bed!

Sorry to all the ladies suffering sickness, I'm emetophobic so sickness is what I'm dreading most. I've been lucky so far.

What is everyone up to this weekend? I'm finally going to get my hair cut for the first time in months. Hooray for my looking less scruffy for a change :)

marvellousmarie · 25/02/2012 08:25

Morning all! Congratulations to newbies! Welcome to the chat!

Well Andrew is away so I have a whole double bed to myself and I had a lie in as he wasn't here to wake me for sex at 6! Pah! Grin (I havnt slept all that well though, never do when he isn't hereSad)

Ah well, I'm just waiting for Dd to wake up and then I'm off to my parents to be spoiled for the weekend! Smile

Kerry I honestly think you should write a book! I love reading your comments they are funny and addictive! How about a book about 'pregnancy- the way it really is!' I can just imagine! Wink

I don't feel very pregnant anymore, all my symptoms have subsided and I don't feel bloated anymore ( which is good as I can still use old jeans!) but still it's Confused! Maybe I'm just ok!

Right, I'm going to drag my arse out of bed, make sure the washing is done and then pack! Hope you all have good weekends!

Over and out x

bella2012 · 25/02/2012 08:26

Morning all! May I join you? So excited to get my bfp a week or so ago and now feeling brave enough to join in. Have been feeling ridiculously tired all week which is so hard at work and looking after DS but this phase didn't last too long last time as I remember so hopefully will have some energy soon! It is my good friend's 30th birthday party tonight and though I have been looking forward to it for ages, I really don't want to go. I feel as fat as a house and don't want people wondering why I am not drinking etc. To make matters worse, I ordered her a cake (as she is a bit short of funds) but due to terrible baby brain, forgot to pick it up yesterday! Oh dear...

Really enjoyed reading through your comments and knowing other people are going through this joyful but worrying time too. Hope everyone is having a good weekend?

I am 29, due 27 oct. 2nd baby :-)

DameIceAndaSlicePlease · 25/02/2012 08:40

Morning all! Sorry I've not posted for what feels like forever, rl and DC getting in the way on MNing time during the day (how v dare they Grin) and come the evening I'm so popped I'm straight to bedBlush

Anyway this is just a quickie to say hi and that me and my little bean are just fine (sorry if I've worried anyone) Hope you're all ok and hopefully I'll be able to get on for a catch up later Smile

8abyDust · 25/02/2012 08:44

Morning everyone,

Hope you're all ok. I am 8 weeks today and can honestly say I feel horrible. Last couple of days eating food has been the hardest thing in the world and when I do force the food down, I feel sick for about an hour afterwards and then it all starts again. Anyone got any tips or advice? Its my 2nd wedding anniversary tomorrow and we were supposed to go out for dinner tonight but I feel too terrible too. Well and truely fed up.

Hope everyone is okay.

26, 8 weeks with first baby.

Midgetm · 25/02/2012 08:46

Congratulations Bella. Welcome to the world of tired, gassy, constipated, bloated women, all sharing a secret. God I'm gagging to tell somone. Not going to though till I at least see a HB.

hehe I'm off to watch football. I always drink. If I do not my 2 friends will know immediately. They may be men but they are not silly. Coming up with cunning plans to avoid the pub. May say I am antibiotics. That's always a goody, anything else is simply not believable as they know me well.

What about the rest of you? X

helenamay · 25/02/2012 08:47

Hi! waves! I just found out I'm pregnant with my first this morning.... first pregnancy test I've ever done and as I always suspected, they make you pregnant! bit shocked to be honest as last month was the first that we were trying. OH is is the US (where he's from) and my mum is not awake yet. I NEED someone to talk to! ahhhh. Just calculated due date of 30 October :)

Midgetm · 25/02/2012 09:04

Congratulations helenamay. It's the hardest secret to keep. I have just had my Pilates class cancelled and was gutted as thought I could at least tell the teacher for safety reasons. Damn and blast.

Twobuttonsaway · 25/02/2012 09:22

Congrats helenamay and hope you feel better soon 8abydust. Just made gingerbread muffins in the hope they will help with nausea waves. (no, am not super human, DS got up at 6am this morning and I can't bear any more ceebeebies!). Off to swimming next, god I don't feel like getting wet and cold! Wishing away the weekend til Tuesday morning when I have an early scan as I had mmc last autumn. Fingers crossed!
Have a good day all

DameFlatYouLent · 25/02/2012 09:50

Midgetm Grin when I saw why you wanted to go to pilates! Can you just tell a random punter in the street, just to make you feel better? They may look at you like this Hmm or they may be pleased for you...?

Angelico · 25/02/2012 09:53

Morning all. Congrats newbies! :o

Nothing new to say this morning apart from: I hate having the cold when I can't throw drugs at it. Had one Locket last night and it was so menthol-y I was worried about it. Throat feels like my cats have crawled down there and used it as a scratching post. Oh Strepsils, how I always took you for granted!!! Never again!!!

HaggisNeepsTatties · 25/02/2012 09:53

Congratulations to all the new ladies! Welcome!!!

I'm at my parents house now... Told my mum last night (dad was already in bed and then out before we got up this morning so will tell him later)
Mum very happy for us but like me not getting too excited yet...she knows better than most how it feels to lose a much wanted baby having had 8 miscarriages.

Feels good to have told someone though!

Have my DH granny's 80th birthday celebration this afternoon, my grandparents 65th wedding anniversary dinner tonight and my BiL has just got engaged so celebrations all round this weekend. We're not planning on telling anyone but my parents though. MiL cannot keep a secret!

Have a great weekend all xxx

Angelico · 25/02/2012 09:55

MidgetM if you are dying to tell someone I would tell the pharmacist. So far I've had to tell 3 pharmacists so I could get:
a) cream for itchy shins (which seems to have subsided, hurrah!)
b) calcium supplements
c) utterly useless glycerin throat sweets.

Midgetm · 25/02/2012 09:56

That's not a bad idea. I have done that before and they seemed pleased and scared all at the same time. I've has so many MC's that I now try and put off telling people as I worry it is becoming a bit tedious. I am going to tell a couple of girlfriends though, the ones i need if it goes right or wrong. But the Pilates thing should be a sign to tell then quick!

Littlepurpleprincess · 25/02/2012 10:04

Heartbeep I'm sorry to hear you've been feeling so rough as well. For me the worst part is the feeling exhausted and faint because I've got no food in me.

I've also been taken off my anti-depressants and woken up feeling very tearful this morning. The house is a state because I haven't been well enough to keep on top of it and DH is not that great at helping. I know that's hardly the end of the world but being off the anti-depressants makes me blow things out of proportion entirely. I'm trying really hard to keep things in perspective.

I'm going to try and stay positive by doing some sewing, and going to by some flowers for the lounge.

The dishes not being done is not the end of the world, and DH can just do them this evening!
