Morning all. I am off work and wallowing in self-pity, dosed with cold and voice reduced to a pitiful croak. DH is back yay!!! BUT he has stolen the car for work and my car battery has gone flat as I kept nicking his heh heh! So I have no lemons, apparently can't take my Strepsils - aaaaarrrrrgggggghhhhh! Sweating and suffering till he nips home at lunchtime, then I will drop him back to work, go to Boots and demand a full list of what I can take without ending up with the baby equivalent of Binky the fish!!!

The maddening thing of course is that there are probably loads of things you COULD take but the manufacturers are covering their asses and saying "Check with your doctor / pharmacist / midwife" etc and then the medical peeps have to cover their asses so they say "Don't take." Googled strepsils and found various forums where women had gone to their docs / pharmacists etc and been told an infinite variety of answers - "Yes of course Strepsils are safe" / "Strepsils might be dodgy, better stick to Lockets" / "Lockets and Strepsils are the devil!!!!" So basically nobody knows anything for sure, hence we're all suffering just to be on the safe side.

And let's face it, who's going to risk doing anything else?!

8 weeks today, oh joy oh rapture. (I would mean that last bit if my eyes weren't watering with the scratchiness in my throat :o)

ps: Running you go girl - you're like the Bionic woman! Take it as easy as you can xo

Angelico · 24/02/2012 11:31

Beans it's hardly surprising you're nervous but I'm sure you'll feel really reassured after it - and you'll have seen the bean! :o x

Beans1977 · 24/02/2012 11:37

Thanks Angelico - I hope you feel better soon, being ill sucks especially when you can't take anything! Hope you have some good DVDs to watch... x

twolittlemonkeys · 24/02/2012 12:32

Beans, with you on the irony of the 12 weeks when you need people to be most understanding being the weeks when you're trying to keep schtum. So difficult. I want to tell everyone why I have no energy for anything besides eating, sleeping and sitting still, why I'm on edge etc. Hope your early scan is reassuring. I'm counting down now - 12 days til mine, 3 weeks til my booking in appt with the midwife etc etc. Can you tell I'm bored?

Angelico hope you are able to get some stuff soon. Paracetamol is fine, I'm pretty sure strepsils and the like are ok, if you haven't any lemons, have you got oranges? Hot honey and orange works just as well (though is a bit sweeter). Also in previous pgs I've used 4head sticks for my headache - works surprisingly well. Hope you feel better soon.

Hot chocolate and a siesta for me now I think. Must set an alarm otherwise I could easily forget to collect the boys from kindergarten and school!

RunningOutOfIdeas · 24/02/2012 12:36

Angelico I definitely don't feel like the bionic woman at the moment (unless her house was also a disgusting mess and she felt constantly nauseous). I think paracetamol is supposed to be safe in pregnancy. If your throat is growing razor blades you could ask a pharmacist for some glycerin and honey or blackcurrant liquid. When I was pregnant with DD I had a really bad cold when I was about 3 months pregnant. I resorted to using a nasal spray just so that I could breathe easier and get some sleep. I spent ages looking on the internet to see if it was safe. I found something by the American college of pharmacists stating that it was probably OK and certainly better than taking decongestant tablets.

It is a real minefield trying to work out what you can and can't take. In my last pregnancy, I was prescribed naproxen (anti-inflamatory) before I knew I was pregnant. I stopped taking it as soon I got my BFP, but I will always wonder if that caused my MMC.

The one godsend for later on is that Gaviscon is safe to take. I used to work with the people who wrote the clinical trial protocols that tested the safety of it in pregnant women. I could kiss them all.

DD seems OK now. She still had a temperature and a headache this morning but I managed to slowly give her a dose of Nurofen and now she is tucking into fish fingers and corn-on-the-cob (her favourites).

turnwest · 24/02/2012 13:19

Hello,

Ive been googling ectopic pregnancies today, does anyone else wish google was nt so available, its so easy to get obsessed with symptoms. Anyway, i ve woken up with bad shoulder pain a couple of times this week, hence the frantic googling. I dont want to go to the doctors, cause I have nt got any other symptoms and from what I can tell shoulder pain would be the last pain I would get, so think I m just sleeping funny. Does anyone have any experience with ectopics?

Anyway apart from cleaning and googling(I m at home all day too, Kerry, if I could drive I could visit you, seeing as you re in Lancashire also) I m pretty bored. Its turned into a nice day here though, makes me want to go to the beach....

Duke- so so happy that your scan went well.

turnwest · 24/02/2012 13:20

I m Adele, by the way, age 34, 6 weeks 6 days pregnant. DD is 4 and a half.

Beeblebear · 24/02/2012 13:43

Tturnwest... Put down the google! I.d suspect yes, you are sleeping funny, and peing preggo starts to loosen ligaments and joints all over.

Well lacking any clear symptoms here I decided to use the last internet cheapie I had being that 2 weeks ago thet would show the faintest of faint lines. Well the line showed up within about 5 seconds and is so much darker there was hardly any dye left for the control line. So I think that is a really good sign. :)

Midgetmj too funny re: burp fart puke!

Hope everyone is habing a woeful day today!

29{for 2 more days)/6/#1

Beeblebear · 24/02/2012 13:44

Damn auto correct! That is supposed to say wonderful day! Not woeful. Gosh

marvellousmarie · 24/02/2012 13:56

Hiya just checking in!

I told a few moor peeps todayGrin it's nice to get this off my chest! I felt like I had to explain as I have an enormous cold sore Sad on my NOSE! For fuck sake I look ridiculous! So I presume it's my immune system having a beating, plus I have spots which I dont get being a freckle face!

So I'm at work in my fetching uniform, can't do my button up and feel nauseous if I don't eat regularly!

How is everyone? Xxx

twolittlemonkeys · 24/02/2012 14:39

marvellousmarie I have such bad spots (though I usually get a few at certain times of the month) I have had to bring my maximum cover foundation and powder out of retirement as concealer is woefully inadequate. I didn't nap properly this afternoon, just chilled on the sofa with a boxset of The Big Bang Theory. Feel rubbish and not up to doing the school run - am going out in my comfy slouch-around-the-house clothes and don't give a flying fig what anyone else thinks :)

resipsa · 24/02/2012 14:44

Thanks for the welcomes/congrats. Nice to be able to tell someone. Last time round, the first person I told was my dentist (not cause we're mates but cause I had to) and TBH he didn't really seem that delighted for me...

Feeling like a Very Bad Mother today. Just gone back to work leaving DD in nursery 4 days a week. By Friday, she's exhausted so I woke her mid-nap today to take her for her MMR jab. Why doesn't she hate me?

Dreaded getting the same drippy midwife I had last time and, yes, she rang today to say she could squeeze me in for a booking visit on Weds or I'd have to wait for "several weeks" So confidence inspiring.

Like everyone, I'm half-dreading the first scan. Had some bleeding last week and although the woman on the phone at the EPU was not worried, you can't help but fear the worst. Human nature is a strange one. We delude ourselves most of the time into thinking everything's better than it is but as soon as you're pregnant, the reverse is true.

marvellousmarie · 24/02/2012 16:01

tlm im so glad someone else feels like me. I just want to fester but I have remain professional and so I to have being doing my extra covering effort over my leprosy nose! Sad oh well at least it's going and then I can feel all lively again! Not!

HaggisNeepsTatties · 24/02/2012 16:10

Hello everyone!
I was supposed to have an easy day working from home, but my phone hasdn't stopped all day! till now!

Duke fantastic news about your scan Thanks...I had gone to bed last night before you came back on to tell us the news!

So I guess I'm lucky in that I'm having very minimal MS so far, however oh my word my boobs! They've been sore since I got pregnant but last night they got about ten times worse, my nipples have about doubled in size and to top it all off they are really itchy. I don't think they've got much bigger but they feel quite hard which is strange! Anyway last night I kept on accidentaly rolling over to my front and the pain!!

And today I tried to put on my skinny jeans :( The scales say I've only put on a pound, but these jeans feel like I've put on half a stone...maybe I washed them too hot Wink

So we're flying up to Scotland tonight and I'll be telling my parents. Excited and nervous. Last time I was pregnant I miscarried before we told anyone as it was really early. My mum had 8 misscariages before they adopted me (and then had my sister naturally!) so I know she'll be worried for me.

Anyway, I probably won't be online much over the weekend, so hope everyone has a good one and catch up with you next week x

Littlepurpleprincess · 24/02/2012 16:13

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today. My sickness has been so bad that I can't even keep water down. Been to the docs and at first he was concerned that I needed to go to hospital and be put on a drip, but after testing a urine sample (TMI!) he said I'm not dehydrated yet. I've been given some anti-sickness tablets so hopefully that'll help, although I've read they don't work for everyone.

It means I've had to take tomorrow off work which I hate because I let people down. It also meant admitting I'm PG earlier than I had wanted to.

I'm starving and thirsty all the time but nothing stays in!

Midgetm · 24/02/2012 17:07

Afternoon all. turnwest Step away from google but just for your peace of mind shoulder pain is in the tip of your shoulder and is a sign of internal bleeding. If you have no other symptoms then I think you are probably in the clear. Google can drive you demented. I wish it was cleverer though as it can't actually tell you what we all want to know. (google search: is this pregnancy going to stic? How many stitches will I have? How good are the drugs etc etc. this proves to me that google is not our friend.

Midgetm · 24/02/2012 17:13

littlepp poor you that sounds awfull. Hope it starts to calm down soon.

milk · 24/02/2012 17:15

Littlepurpleprincess, hope you feel better soon x

Does anyone else have a metallic taste in their mouth?

Heartbeep · 24/02/2012 17:30

I sympathise littlepurpleprincess I got out of hospital yesterday. Had 1.5L of fluids (3 bags) and my urine was still 3+ keytones but they let me out on the premise that I went back today if I was sick again. They gave me an anti sickness shot & some pills to take which I hate the thought of but I've been so sick this week I've not made it into work so I feel I have to take them. Threw up about 20-25 times on Monday & Tuesday, was horrible. I've also lost over half a stone in weight in a week.

The good thing is they gave me an early scan today to ensure it wasn't either a molar pregnancy or multiple pregnancy (eek!). Fortunately it is neither & we got to see our little 8 week old baby & it's heartbeat. The sonographer said my bladder was rubbish as I've not been able to keep anything down since Sunday but we did see baby twice with it's little fluttering heartbeat.

I do feel a little better today, headache has almost gone, I've managed to keep some food & water down, I still feel really nauseous but I haven't been sick today which is the first day since week 4, docs said to give tablets 3 days to see if they make any difference & if not they'll try a different one.

I do hope you feel better soon, I had some good advice from other mumsnetters about getting treatment on another thread, fortunately my GP was great and took me seriously when I went to see her earlier this week, otherwise I think I would've been in quite a dangerous situation.

Don't ignore it, the hospital were great too, I half expected to be told to suck it up you're pregnant but they couldn't have been nicer to me.

Hyperemesis is truly awful, I don't know how women who have it go on to have more than one child, if I'd felt this bad in my first pregnancy DD would definitely be an only without question!

Hope you feel better soon.

Angelico · 24/02/2012 17:52

Lots of sympathy heartbeep and purpleprincess! I'm sure you feel like strangling all of us worrying about not being sick!!! Basically none of us are ever happy...

Went to Boots and pharmacist said NO throat lozenges at all!!! Shock I thought this was a bit extreme. She eventually said their own brand glycerin ones are mild stuff AND I went rogue and got a packet of yellow Lockets - they say "No side effects noted in pregnancy" which is about the least ass-covering message I could find. Pharmacist did say that when one of their other pharmacists was pregnant she wouldn't even take a simple linctus (sugar and water???) for a cough because it hadn't been tested.

That said I developed a mad craving for KFC Zinger Burgers this week - had one on Monday and one last night. I shudder to think what nasties are lurking in them... Hmm - would probably make the Lockets look tame!!!

turnwest · 24/02/2012 18:15

I could just eat KFC or dominoes, I ve got serious junk food cravings, I m trying to resist though...!

I ve stopped googling, there are some scary stories on the Internet!

Zoeplankton · 24/02/2012 19:06

Hello, ladies!

I've missed you all :)

More work travel, five hours out and back over two days, but I can't get out of it without giving the game away!

lpp and heartbeep - good lord you ladies are stoic. If it was me, I'd be wailing, flailing, shaking my fists at the sky... But no, not you. You must both be very tough cookies!

Ready for TMI? Good! I had (dating from pre-pregnancy) a particularly nasty bottom condition called a 'fissure' - a little, but staggeringly painful, tear in the back passage. Every morning when you go to the loo, it tears again, and the only pregnancy-safe treatment is prune juice, hot baths, and waiting. Awful.

Anyhow - while I don't usually tend towards 'alternative medicine' (as the joke says: there' a word for alternative medicine that's been proven to work: 'medicine') I was getting pretty damn desperate as I didn't want to take the fissure through pregnancy with me, so I bought a bottle of snake oil essential oils for fissures, ok'd for pregnancy, from amoils.com.

It works, it works, it works, it works, it works!

Apparently fissures are common in pregnant ladies, so if it happens to you, I recommend amoils. Also they do one for piles for pregnancy, no idea if it works but my gosh the fissure one is SENSATIONAL.

Hope you all have a lovely, comfortable evening!

RunningOutOfIdeas · 24/02/2012 19:14

mmmmmm KFC popcorn chicken

I am also craving junk food, especially crisps.

Hope everyone has had a good day. turnwest shoulder tip pain can also be caused by trapped wind. I had it after my c-section. Peppermints help (so does getting on hands and knees and doing a big fart).

DD seemed OK for most of today. I took her to my office for an hour this afternoon which she loves. But since 4pm she has been dozing on my bed with a temperature. I don't want to leave her to get my dinner but I guess I will have to otherwise she won't be the only one feeling sick.

DameFlatYouLent · 24/02/2012 19:37

Evening all. Hope everyone's had a good week - sounds like heartbeep and lpp have had a shocker Sad I really hope the tablets work for you both. I was talking to someone who had hyperemesis in all 4 (!!!!) pregnancies, and she was told by a doctor that the baby is like a parasite (more !!!!) and leaches what it needs out of you. So the baby is ok, you're...less ok. If that's at all comforting?!

I had a scan today as I've had some problems, and everything's fine. It was lovely to see the tiny heart beating. I'm feeling sick most of the time, and so tired I feel like I'm battling through sleeping tablets or something. DS slept through last night for the first time in ages but I was nervous about the scan so I couldn't sleep Sad Chances are he won't sleep through again for ages....sigh. Ah well, looking forward to a relatively peaceful weekend!

TartyMcFarty · 24/02/2012 20:05

Hello! Late and unexpected BFP here having been drinking wine on holiday all week [oops]

Think I'm due mid-late October - can't be more specific as I was on CD44 by the time I got my BFP. All being well, this will be DC2. DD is 2 on Monday Smile
