Angelico Do you like herbal tea? I like peppermint and eucalyptus when I get a cold as it smells sort of medicine-y and soothing. I've had some since being pg, I assume it's ok to drink.

HeeHeeHeeBum · 25/02/2012 10:10

Hmm, I'm confused about herbal teas now. I have been drinking loads but I've just googled and it seems to be mixed as to whether or not they are safe. Does anyone know anything about this?

missbone · 25/02/2012 10:50

Zara, fabulous, fabulous, fabulous advice, thank you. No, I have no editing experience but I feel it is something I may be good at(?) Sorry to sound dim but what is NGO an abbreviation of?

missbone · 25/02/2012 11:03

LittlePurple, what medication were you on, and what mg? What reason did your GP give for taking you off them (I want to see conclusive studies saying my baby will come out as a clone of Fred West before I come off these little fellas)?

CottonSock · 25/02/2012 11:19

Hi there, hope you don't mind me dropping in. I am on the other October thread, but just had a quick look at this one and thought I would say 'hello' as from my first quick read, there are a few of you with similar interests to me (hiking and the great outdoors, me and DH met through the Young Ramblers). I fully intend on (DH) lugging baby up hills once we feel up to it. I also have the same fears about what I am going to be giving up, but I'm sure that's all natural. I hope you are all well today and enjoying the weekend. I'm 33, 6+5, first DH, second pregnancy. No MS and feeling good apart from no sleep and terrified of another MS!

CottonSock · 25/02/2012 11:20

First DH, I mean first DC, although I'm on my first DH too ;), and terrified of another MC. I think I should give up on the acronyms

Zara1984 · 25/02/2012 11:22

missbone it stands for non-governmental organisation - basically a non-profit! Not a bother, that was my fault for assuming all and sundry would know what an obscure term means! Grin

Littlepurpleprincess · 25/02/2012 11:42

missbone I have been on 20mg of citralopram. He said to only stay on them if the benefits outweigh the risks, and didn't feel this was the case for me. I am scared of how I'm going to feel but I decided to try and manage without. If I can't cope, well I'll just go back to GP and ask for help again.

According to le leaflet that comes with citralopram, it can cause breathing problems for the baby, especially if taken in late pregnancy.

DameFlatYouLent · 25/02/2012 12:02

hi cottonsock, welcome!

Midgetm · 25/02/2012 12:21

Welcome Cottonsoscks.

Angelico I am off to the pharmacist but I need to make an imaginary ailment first. I am not sure that sore boobs will cut the mustard in the discussion. Good idea though - very legitimate person to tell and less weird than a passing stranger.

HeeHeeBum I thought herbal teas were fine except one or two (like Raspberry leaf which can bring on labour some such serious consequence) but even that I think is ok in the first trimester. I think your run of the mill peppermint/cammomile etc are all good.

I am supposed to be cooking lunch for the family. Bad bad me.

missbone · 25/02/2012 12:51

Zara, thank you so much Thanks

Angelico · 25/02/2012 13:10

Feeling grotty and also a bit paranoid.

I have quite bad lower back ache today. We were walking on the beach and I got the most horrible sensation - TMI warning - like liquid was running down inside me. Combined with backache immediately thought "Oh god, it must be blood." It wasn't but tissue was quite dark yellow when I peed - couldn't tell if I was just dehydrated and strong urine or whether there was a tiny bit of old blood mixed in. Did push a bit of tissue inside and it came out covered with the usual clear mucus. So hopefully all is well but going to take it easy today. DH is away to get me more lemons for my hot honey and lemon, bless him.

Take it easy ladies xo

marvellousmarie · 25/02/2012 16:56

Hiya! Welcome all new mummies!

Im feeling sick and I think it's when I'm not too busy. But I'm tired today just want to relax! I also put my sickness down to not eating enough, like others have found little and often helps me.

Angelico I know what you mean about back ache, try and stretch in the cat position or my mum was given some good exercises- rolling on your back from side to side.

midgetm I know what you mean about the drink, my friends knew straight away because I was making spritzers of wine and soda! Thats definately not me! I'm a bottle of wine girl. To be honest I'm really off any alcohol because it makes me feel more sick! I've had a few half hearted attempts and wine but never finish half a glass! My tipple of the moment is orange and pineapple squash! I feel so sorry for those of you really struggling with sickness, what about an extra strong mint?

Anybody wanted particular foods and avoiding others? I'm liking the idea of anything with cheese and fresh veggies, I'm so off the smell and taste of alcohol and butter makes me heave!

Heartbeep · 25/02/2012 17:09

littlepurple I don't know anything about depression so I can't comment on that. What I do know from last 4 weeks is that hyperemesis is truly truly awful & I have never felt lower than I did this week.

With regard to the housework, leave it. It's easy to say but you don't need to be worrying about it right now. Once this phase passes (hopefully soon for us both!) we can start cleaning & nesting til our hearts are content.

It is worth going back to the gp, or a different gp to discuss the options re medication, it's most important for you & the baby that you're in good mental as well as physical health & hyperemesis definitely
messes with both.

How is your sickness, has it alleviated any?

Mine has a bit thanks to the meds but I now have a constant migraine type headache & I think they're making me drowsy, both of which might also be related to the dehydration so I'll give it a couple of days before discussing with my GP.

Hope you get a bit of relief soon.

RichardAndJudysButtPlug · 25/02/2012 17:24

Just want to mention to all the hikers out there that having a baby doesn't necessarily mean you have to give it up. My 5yo son walked for 8 miles through countryside today - first time he has walked that far (we took a wrong turning) but we go out every weekend for 5-6 mile walks. I know they aren't huge, strenuous treks but it is a lovely thing to do as a family. When he was a baby we managed with carriers etc and obviously if breastfeeding you can just find a nice spot to sit in.

Now if you were saying you were worried about giving up raving at Fabric every weekend then I could tell you that yes, you probably might. But rambling/hiking - massive adventures for little ones I tell you. And I intend to continue when our new baby is born.

RichardAndJudysButtPlug · 25/02/2012 17:27

Littlepurple Did you wean yourself off the AD's or just stop taking them? I know that if you stop suddenly you can have quite a severe reaction.

Beans1977 · 25/02/2012 17:31

Hi. Hope everyone is doing well today - sorry to hear about those of you who are struggling this weekend.

I've had a bit of a strange day - had an early scan this morning which showed (hooray!!) a healthy baby with a heartbeat exactly as it should be at this stage.

However, the scan also showed that the pregnancy had begun as twins (random as we have no history in the family, and I've not had any fertility treatment, but perhaps explains why I was so sick early on) but one of our beans sadly died a few weeks ago.

So it was a very bitter-sweet experience - amazing to see one live baby, after a MMC last year - but sad that I have lost another baby. I don't feel I have a good hit rate at the moment although I know these things happen and it is all just fate - but hopefully this one will stick with us. I think sometimes the path to motherhood can be something of a roller coaster...

Another surprise was that we're a few more weeks along that we thought. I had worked out I was 8 weeks, but I'm actually nearly 10 - which means if all goes well our surviving baby would be due at the end of September - just in time for my sister's wedding on 21st when I am chief bridesmaid Hmm I'm hoping you'll all let me stay on this thread though. If it's anything like it's parents it will be late and be in October anyway!

(Elly, I'm 34, 9+5, first DC, second pregnancy)

TheGrandOldDuke · 25/02/2012 17:39

Hello all!
Just about to go back and read what's been going on today.
Just wanted to ask if anyone else is having my current "weird" thing - practically passing out after meals? I take the last mouthful and practically have to crawl to the couch to lie down because I feel like i'm about to faint. WEIRD.
ANyway back when I've caught up!

missbone · 25/02/2012 17:46

Beans, that really is bittersweet news. It's difficult to know what to say. Anyway, I'm thrilled for you, darling, despite the obvious sadness at your loss Thanks

I am really feeling sorry for you girls with sickness/nausea - none of which I have had any experience of (sorry!)

So....I've told the world I'm pregnant...via Facebook. I'm just too excited about this pregnancy to keep schtum any longer. I won't be having a scan before 12 weeks and I cannot wait another 4 weeks to tell the world. So that, as they say, is that....

Me: 40 yrs, 7+5, 1st baby, already chosen names!!!

TheGrandOldDuke · 25/02/2012 17:54

beans big hugs for the one that you lost, and big hugs for the lovely little bean you've got! Bittersweet is quite the right word.

purpleprincess and heartbeep sorry to hear about your sickness - horrid horrid. I hope you've both had a better day and been able to keep fluids down.

Hello!! To all the new ladies Grin

angelico hope you're feeling better soon. DS has started with a streaming nose and hacking cough today so I shall be joining you shortly I expect!!! I wouldn't worry about the backache too much, just be prepared for it for the next 9 months!!! Last time round from month 6 I was in agony and had physio for it, and this time it's started already. Can't get comfy at night at all, it's just so sore and achey. Paracetamol is fine in pregnancy, but ibuprofen is a DEFINITE NO-NO.

Beans1977 · 25/02/2012 18:03

Missbone and Duke thanks for the support - it has been a weird day, but DH and I are going to be positive and be thankful to the man upstairs for the healthy baby we appear to have been blessed with, who seemed to be waving at us on the screen. One little miracle would be more than enough for us.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturdays - I'm into tracky bums and hoodie for my date with the sofa! x

milk · 25/02/2012 18:21

Saw my midwife today :) She took so much blood :(

Now I can't wait for my scan on 28th March :D

twolittlemonkeys · 25/02/2012 18:26

Beans sending you some un-Mumsnetty hugs. :) about your little waving bean, :( about the one you have lost. Also good news that you're further on - less time to wish away til you can share the news with everyone! Please stay on this thread :)

My Saturday night is going to consist of slobbing about on the sofa with DH, if the DSs will stay in bed (pigs might fly....) Need an early night so I have enough energy to teach my Sunday School class at church tomorrow morning Confused

HHB most herbal teas are fine, according to my pregnancy books, MWs etc. I just got some lovely Pear & Vanilla herbal tea from Morrisons - add a tsp of sugar/honey/sweetener and it tastes lovely, not like pondwater (which is more than can be said for some herbal teas!)

missbone · 25/02/2012 18:46

Hello, Milk [waves] Blimey, here's me telling everyone on Facebook I'm pregnant and I haven't even been to my booking-in appointment yet! It's a good job I don't believe in jinxes or superstition Smile

Michael & me are currently awaiting a pepperoni, red onion and green pepper 12" pizza and two portions of chips with mayo from the local Italian. GET IN!!!

I had to laugh today (remembering one of you ladies saying you may just tell a random stranger of your pregnancy) when a lady came to our (rented) house unexpectedly to view it. I was still in my pyjama bottoms and apologised to her, explaining that "I'm eight weeks pregnant, you see, and very, very bloated...hence the jim-jams!" Ha! Ha! She didn't even congratulate me (think she was bemused by the seven-foot Christmas tree still up in our lounge).

Have a lovely and carefree weekend y'all! x

TheGrandOldDuke · 25/02/2012 18:52

So what are the names missbone?????????
