Just had a BFP and wondered if anyone wanted to join me in the rollercoaster ride over the next few months

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

elvislives I have what to expect book and don't find it patronising at all. I think it's hard for them to get the tone right tbh - they want these books to have a bit of humour but also to be informative. They are probably less useful now post-google but I quite like dipping into mine.

lisbethsopposite we are at exactly same stage - 6 +3, due 5th Oct :) How on earth did you get your scan so soon - was it because of IVF? I'm considering a private one as will be 13+4 before I ever get mine! Congrats on both your pregnancies! :o My cousin has 2 gorgeous boys thanks to IVF - it really is a miracle.

BabyDustPlease · 13/02/2012 17:36

Congratulations on scans! Glad to hear everything is ok. Can't wait for mine next saturday, I'll be 8 weeks then and it will be our second wedding anniversary so fingers crossed we'll see that little heart beating away!

Angelico sorry you have to wait so long, my private early US is £80, think it will be the best £80 ever spent whatever the outcome!

Hope everyones having a good day, I have a couple of days of leave which is nice as the tiredness is kicking in big time! Anyone got any nice plans for valentines day? My DH works away in the week so its a night in on my own with chocolate (normally a glass of wine but not this time!) for me!!!

xxx

Angelico · 13/02/2012 17:38

On the bra front, does anyone know if non-underwired sports bras are suitable? I have large bosoms and wear these quite a lot for good support. They are also quite stretchy. Anyone else used these?

Zoeplankton · 13/02/2012 17:45

You mean like 34 inches, litlan? That's a size ten, isn't it?

I must be thinking in Australian measurements, they just use your normal dress size :S Sorry for being confusing everyone!

gt79 · 13/02/2012 19:06

Hiya,
I'm due 10th Oct. have had a miscarriage previously so feeling very nervous about everything going ok. Doing my best to relax though!
Wishing us all a happy and healthy nine months
Xxx

lisbethsopposite · 13/02/2012 19:17

I think I was scaned early because of IVF - there is a higher risk of ectopic. It was an early pregnancy unit so, as all is well, I have no follow up appointment.
I am in Southern Ireland and I think my next appointment will be the routine 12 week one.
I feel really well, I don't have the tiredness that I remember from before, so I've tested myself several times in the last few days with the cheap pregnancy tests, I have had 'chemical pregnancy' twice in the past - That is where you get a BFP but it ends spontaneously after a few days. I suddenly got very nervous as I waited for the scan and I understand your fears, Angelico. The midwife had to do an internal scan, because of it being so early. Nothing showed on the external abdominal scan. Can the private centre offer an internal scan? An external one that shows nothing would only frighten you.
Seeing the little flutter of the heart, even though there is still a long way to go, is worth a lot.

I think any softish bra will do the trick,

BabyDustPlease · 13/02/2012 19:25

The early scan that I am going to they offer an internal scan if they can't see anything with the external.

DameFlatYouLent · 13/02/2012 19:29

elvislives I'd recommend your pregnancy week by week by Lesley Ragan. I found what to expect too american (ie. not relevant) - the lesley ragan book is English.

Congrats everyone on scans, and hope you get to the bottom of what's going on with your sister, Bubblebell. Family can be the absolute worst Sad

Vcarroll · 13/02/2012 19:51

Evening all! Hope you are all well... Very jealous to be reading about all these scans you lucky things! Great news they seem to have gone well Angelico having to wait over 13 weeks is an outrage! I will be 12 weeks on 1st April and was fully expecting to get a scan that week... Obviously it's not as Simple as that boo :-(

zoeplankton thanks for the book tip, I'm not doing too badly tbh I haven't given in once whenever I feel tempted I visualise a baby with a mouthful of smoke and it stops me! The book may well be useful for hubby though who has cut down but struggling to quit completely, so thanks

bear1984 a big welcome! We are date buddies!! Can't believe you only found out yesterday - I feel like I have known FOREVER lol, in reality has only been a week and a bit... Has anyone else found these to be the longest weeks EVER?!! I reckon will be like this until I get my scan

Vcarroll · 13/02/2012 19:54

elvislives I meant to say I have what to expect when you're expecting and I don't like itits too full on. I read the conceiving section and honestly it made you think it was the hardest things in the world all the things it said you should be doing!!! The diet in pregnancy section also left my mind reeling.

Beeblebear · 13/02/2012 20:00

I have both your pregnancy week by week and what to expect when you are expecting. I do like the layout of the week by week but WTE book has a little more in depth things that you can reference.

Well I just got off the phone with my Dr. Office. I have my first appointment on Friday to "confirm pregnancy" when they said that my heart jumped a little. I guess I'm not used to that yet. After this first one they will schedule my first real appt with all the blood work and internal exams(oh joy).

I'll keep posting the time lines for my appointemnts if anyone here is interested in what the schedule of care and procedures are like in Canada.

missbone · 13/02/2012 20:01

nasara & bubble, fantastic news on your scans!! Grin

missbone · 13/02/2012 20:23

Welcome and congrats to all the newbies! Thanks

I, too, would recommend 'Your Pregnancy Week By Week' by Janet Regan (although it's uber tempting to jump to the second trimester where you can read about 'real' babies, IYKWIM!)

Feeling tons better today re yesterday's hysterical crying and irritability. Just had a lovely long bath and made love to DP (still no penetration - too afraid). Mercifully, my nipple tenderness has receded so DP had a right ol' breast fest! Right now I'm awaiting the second instalment of Corrie and a 12" pepperoni pizza and chips to be delivered from my local Italian. GET IN!!!! Grin

missbone · 13/02/2012 20:26

Ha! Vcarroll, I reckon you're the only lass on here who isn't a Corrie fan - there was only you posting between 7.30 and 8.00pm!!

Vcarroll · 13/02/2012 20:33

I noticed the dead air!!! I am actually watching it but multi tasking lol

Angelico · 13/02/2012 20:50

Thanks for info lisbeth. The clinic I phoned said that although they offer scans from 7-11 weeks it's sometimes better to wait until at least 8 or 9 weeks to be sure that any heartbeat is visible.

As to which book thing if people want to get the pregnant week by week one you can still sign up to the what to expect website and get lots of free info by email - best of both worlds :o

twolittlemonkeys · 13/02/2012 22:37

Hi ladies, I am really torn over whether or not to pay for an early scan (I have requested one as I conceived with fertility treatment, but the fertility clinic which prescribed the clomid seems to have shut down :() I have had early scans (between 6-8 weeks) with all my pregnancies, and found it reassuring. However, last time round, I had a scan at 8 weeks, saw a heartbeat, announced it to all the family when we had a big family get together, and MC at 9 weeks :(

I have made my booking in appointment with the MW (Will be 9 weeks) Previously they have filled in all the notes whilst I'm there whilst asking me all sorts of questions and answering my queries (long appointment). This time round, I have been given my own pregnancy notes to fill in, including detailed obstetric/ other health history, allergies, you name it... Methinks I won't actually be getting to know my MW and she won't be getting to know me either - I'll be in and out in 5 minutes as I've filled in all the relevant info! Mind you, nobody seems to consult the notes properly anyway - despite having big stickers over notes saying Group B Strep - administer IV antibiotics in labour, I still had to actually point it out to every health professional who dealt with me during DS1's labour and birth. It's a good job I'll be having an elective section, at least I won't be so worried they're going to miss that. By the way GBS can be passed on to baby during delivery and cause lifelong disability/illness, yet they still don't routinely screen for it here! Shock

Anyway, now I've stopped ranting about antenatal care, I'll head off to bed. I'm off on holiday in the morning. I think I'm more excited than the kids about meeting Mickey Mouse! Grin Back next week - A Bientot! :)

nenehooo · 13/02/2012 22:41

Yep it certainly is half term Angelico and only about 7 weeks til Easter Grin Before then I've got a class assembly, lesson observation and parent meetings to get through - all whilst trying to grow a bean! Telling my Head tomorrow - hopefully she'll be supportive.
Can't believe I've missed all the book reviews - I ordered one off Amazon this morning - can't remember what it's called, but don't think any of you mentioned it. I really need to be on here more often and soak up the knowledge!!!
Told siblings today and they were well chuffed - my sister cried! People keep saying well done - don't feel like I've actually done anything yet?!
So sorry to hear your sis is being difficult Bubble how insensitive to say things in front of your DCs. You need to try to rise above the brain-farts - AMAZING analogy Zoeplankton - as they say, you can't choose your family. Certainly wish I could've chosen DH's - there's a fair few brain farts going on there I can tell you!!!

nenehooo · 13/02/2012 22:49

Very jealous twolittlemonkeys I wanted to do a Disney trip before I got pg, but we went snowboarding instead. Hopefully if we get to do a trip with a little one Daddy will let me go on the scary rides Grin
Is it normal to have to fill in your own notes?! Shock My DH always has to remind doctors that he's allergic to penicillin every time he needs antibiotics. He says it's like they're actually trying to kill him!
Fingers crossed for you and enjoy your holiday!

missbone · 13/02/2012 23:01

Monkeys, I catch your drift re antenatal 'care', and yet...in a weird way it soothes me to think that not everyone considers pregnancy to be this massive deal where we need to be treated with kid gloves (although it must be awful if you've had problems in the past). Enjoy your holiday and go wild!!

bubble, your sister sounds jealous - or psychotic? What she needs is a jolly good kicking; you could take her on to the Jeremy Kyle Show where we could all watch and cheer you on Grin Seriously, though, I wouldn't tolerate that kind of venomous nonsense. Your financial situation and family planning are absolutely none of her business, and she needs to know that slagging you off in front of your children is a non-negotiable no-no (if this does not quieten the woman, send her round here and I'll kick her head in) Wink

Right, I'm off to watch a documentary on serial killers and prostitutes...right up my street!

P.s. If I'm feeling controversial/irritable tomorrow when I get up I may start a discussion on here about Amanda Holden's decision to go back to work after 'nearly dying' in hospital 3 weeks ago. Ta-da for now! x

twolittlemonkeys · 13/02/2012 23:03

Well I didn't think it was normal to have to fill in your own notes but I guess cutbacks in the NHS = saving appointment time by filling in your own notes (and also a reduced chance of getting an early scan!) I certainly plan to enjoy my holiday, no big rides for me, but I look forward to scoffing loads of croissants (sadly have to avoid the soft cheeses and pate) You know, I'm beginning to think that booking a fab holiday is like tempting fate - when ttc #1, it wasn't happening for ages so DH and I booked a once in a lifetime holiday to Malaysia and Hong Kong. Then I promptly fell pregnant and was 22 weeks when we went... still had a fab time :)

Angelico · 13/02/2012 23:30

Actually filling in your own notes isn't a bad idea - my midwife was lovely but made at least 5 mistakes, 3 of which I caught and 2 of which I didn't and which are now in my notes Confused. I even phoned them to say and they weren't bothered. So I'll happily do my own notes from here because I won't leave anything out!

I'm constantly amazed by how much paper hospitals etc generate. Never assume they have actually read your notes. A GP made my sister very ill giving her a penicillin based antibiotic even though it was all over her records that she was allergic. I was especially pissed off after enduring a totally unnecessary and rather unpleasant procedure a few years ago when my consultant had specifically written in my notes that I wasn't supposed to have it (it was a barium enema in case you're wondering and it's absolutely the grossest thing ever - you drink litres of vile chalky stuff bleugh!). The poor lady reviewing the file was horrified and very apologetic. Tbh I should have made a complaint but everyone had been so lovely - it's just the usual NHS busy busy thing where they give you files the size of War and Peace for really minor conditions and no one has time to read them!

Anyway the point of that waffle was - assume they know nothing and tell them everything significant!!! :o

elvislives2012 · 14/02/2012 02:27

Thanks for the book advice. Think the week by week one is best. Will get it in the UK when back from honeymoon! Prob not til after scan tho....

HampdenMum · 14/02/2012 03:31

Hello all, can I join in? This is my first post and first baby! We decided to start trying at Christmas and I came off the pill (Cerazette) on Christmas Eve. Had a normal period starting on 11th Jan - lots of 'trying' - and KNEW I was pregnant just before I was due on again.
Did 3 tests on Thurs and have GP appt today. DH in denial but very very excited, hopefully after seeing GP today he will belive it!
I think my due date will be 17th Oct??

I am posting this at 3.30am - been awake every night this week (wide awake and starving) can't get back to sleep so know I will be a zombie tomorrow :( anyone else not sleeping??

elvislives2012 · 14/02/2012 04:04
