Just had a BFP and wondered if anyone wanted to join me in the rollercoaster ride over the next few months

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi Cheekychops 29. I'm 6+5 today. I've been taking Pregnacare Original & additional B6. I've not really has any sickness feelings yet either I actually wish I would feel sick so it would make the pregnancy feel real (I know I will probably regret thinking that if & when the sickness starts!)

bee1983 · 12/02/2012 18:01

Well ladies, very long time no see, but I've been snowed under with work and some pregnancy worries - I've had spotting for the past five days and getting a bit stressed out about it.

Called the out-of-hours GP yesterday finally and he was totally useless and seemed to think I'd have to come in for two GP appointments and still wouldn't be offered a scan for two more weeks (I'm nearly at 6 weeks now) despite the bleeding. Anyway, called the Early Pregnancy Unit and they were enormously helpful and told me to come in for a scan on Tuesday. So that's what I'm going to do...

Anyone else having anything like this? Despite not having pain I am worried it might be a sign of something being wrong.

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 18:05

Hi bee1983 I am sorry to hear your troubles - I haven't suffered spotting myself but I have suffered from an annoying unhelpful GP! They just seem so jaded don't they? They don't really care enough.

From what I have read spotting is incredibly common and you only need to worry if you start to bleed HEAVILY. I think there's a few ladies on this thread who have had it and then it just stopped

missbone · 12/02/2012 18:10

bee, how worrying for you. Please take courage and know that one in three women at our stage are having spotting/bleeding/cramps and will go on to have healthy pregnancies. I will be praying for you.

Ladies, I'm afraid I'm staying off this thread for a little while as - sorry if I offend - I am literally going crazy with all this pram talk (probably because I am skint and also because I feel it's inappropriate when there are a number of women on here who are living, literally, in fear of miscarriage). I'm so sorry to sound like a kill-joy; I am as excited as everyone else on here about my pregnancy, but I've just burst into floods of tears and I think it's best if I don't contribute for a little while whilst this mood prevails Sad

I will be praying for all of you with anxieties and imminent scans x

mrsclairemarie · 12/02/2012 18:16

Just wondering if any of you ladies have not experienced many symptoms yet? (I'm 6+5) So far all I've felt is more tired and very hungry!! My boobs hurt a little but not a huge amount.

TheGrandOldDuke · 12/02/2012 18:17

missbone hope the mood passes quickly and you come back soon! I think this thread is great because it encompasses everything. I think people should be free to talk about the good as well as the bad. It's everyone's own reality. At this early stage the risks are still high, and I'm sure everyone's worried, and I am desperately sorry for those going through a bad time, but people shouldnt be put off talking about their happiness/excitement as well.
Hope I've not offended, I just did feel your post might make people feel they couldn't write positive stuff on this thread.

TheGrandOldDuke · 12/02/2012 18:18

mrsmarieclaire my sense of smell is a cute, everything makes me gag. The smell of butter? Putrid. The smell of hand wash has me running for the loo. Hate this feeling...

Sassee · 12/02/2012 18:19

No symptoms here, boobs are always massive, please don't let them get bigger! Missbone, may need the power of prayer with that one!

I'm a bit tired but that's not news for me, I've got a stressful job that leaves my brain fried!

The lack of symptoms in costing ne a fortune in tests!

6+1 here

mrsclairemarie · 12/02/2012 18:26

Sassee same here I've been doing lots of tests as well! The lack of symptoms makes me worry but the positive tests make me feel temporarily better!

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 18:30

Sorry if I offended anyone was just excited. I am just as nervous as anyone and will be for the next 7 weeks I guess I just like to think positive

RichardAndJudysButtPlug · 12/02/2012 18:31

missbone I know what you mean. Pregnancy is so exciting and you can't help being pulled into dreaming of what stuff you will buy etc (I've chosen names already) but there is just that thing at the back of my mind that is thinking I need to reign it in a bit. Today I've been thinking about the fact I already have one beautiful, healthy son and how this pregnancy will certainly go wrong because I have been blessed already - getting all superstitious and stuff. So unlike me. Hope you come back and post soon :)

twolittlemonkeys I have heard the midwife is great so I'm looking forward to meeting him.

To those asking about maternity bras, M&S do some nice ones. Obviously they are not the sexiest lingerie but I find it much more comfortable having the correct fit and without the wire (and the wire can damage developing breast tissue). I bought two for £25 but I know that H&M are better value at 2 for £15 or something like that. Because my boobs are growing so quickly I'll go for a fitting and go to H&M next time. It is worth buying the bras with the clasps on the front so you can use them for breastfeeding too.

RichardAndJudysButtPlug · 12/02/2012 18:33

vcarroll You have a right to be excited and to discuss what you want. I don't think your posts were offensive.

Angelico · 12/02/2012 18:39

The whole 'to be excited or not to be excited' thing is interesting. I told my mum yesterday - hadn't planned to but we've had a few deaths in family recently and she was quite down - thought she needed some good news! When she asked if I was excited I was like "Yes but cautiously so" and she bewailed the fact that I was being so negative.

So actually Grandoldduke I agree with you - I think we need to feel free to celebrate when we are in a position to do so, especially first-timers. None of us have any control over these next few weeks so I'm trying to feel happy about the BFP and sending love and hugs to those who have suffered losses, knowing that any of us could end up in that situation. Here's hoping for lots of sticky beans all round xo

missbone · 12/02/2012 18:43

vcarroll nobody on here has been offensive in any way. Like Richard quite rightly says, we all have the right to express how we feel on here. Apologies to anyone who's feelings I have hurt...I'm just having a horrid, horrid day.

Angelico · 12/02/2012 18:45

On the smell thing - I put on my lovely fav perfume today and felt like retching :( DH is a bit snookered now as he was going to buy me some for Valentine's Day and now he's not sure whether to or not heh heh bless him! Wink

bee1983 · 12/02/2012 18:48

Vcarroll - my actual GP is lovely (and very down to earth) but this out-of-hours chap just seemed totally bogged down in red tape and guff! It's reassuring to know it's so common. It's funny how easy it can be to panic when you're on your own, and being able to share it with other people makes it less scary.

Missbone, don't stop posting! The pram posts - and others - are keeping my mind off worrying about spotting! Anyway it is definitely comedy gold - £599 for a pram, how we laughed ;)

bee1983 · 12/02/2012 18:49

Sorry you are having a horrid day, Missbone - sending some virtual flowers your way (but not technically savvy enough to figure out how to make them actually look like flowers!!!)

Angelico · 12/02/2012 18:50

bee you are right about the price Shock I swear to god you can actually buy a car for less than some of these 'travel systems' lol!

TheGrandOldDuke · 12/02/2012 18:50

missbone I'm sorry you're having a rubbish day :-( I hope tomorrow is better.

I don't count anything as certain, and will not be going public until after the 20 week scan as we have a genetic anomaly and I can't bear all the questions. Once I know, then I can announce, and have answers for people when they ask if s/he is affected. Until then it's just a matter or hoping and praying, checking the toilet tissue religiously, and for me, although I'm not hippy in anyway, I do do a bit of positive visualisation....never admitted that before!!!

Last time round the sense of smell thing was just the worst thing for me, couldn't go in our bathroom for 4 months. Fabric conditioner made me gag.

TheGrandOldDuke · 12/02/2012 18:51

Smeone mentioned maxi cosi mura - personally I would not get this again, if I was buying another. I will use it because I have it in the garage, but I did not get on with it at all.

Zoeplankton · 12/02/2012 18:56

Hear, hear, angelico!

I'm all for not eating damaging foods. But me, I like science. And I know my way around scientific journals, too. The amount of proper, reliable research on the different foods for pregnancy (and let's not forget booze!) is negligible.

I will happily take any advice that is based in science and is not just superstition. Most of what we are being told is superstition, pure and simple. Prawns, by the way, are fine - just ask all the Thai mums with healthy babies :)

That mumsnet thread on what to eat is very sensible, and links to the food standards website (also vey sensible).

I also recommend everyone grabs a cuppa when they've got a spare minute and reads this: www.essentialbaby.com.au/life-style/nutrition-and-wellbeing/the-child-king-20120130-1qoqf.html

vcarroll - good on you, lady. You won't stop wanting them as long as you think you're missing out on something, though. You're really not missing out on anything, you just need to convince your brain that :)

I quit almost a year ago using the Alan Carr's easy way book. I can't recommend it highly enough. I have not had one single drag since I finished the book and stubbed out the last one... And I was a smoker for fifteen years STRAIGHT. Good luck!

twolittlemonkeys · 12/02/2012 18:59

If you think £600 is bad, do not look at the Stokke Explory. The RRP for that travel system is about the cost of my first 2 cars combined Shock link here for serious pram junkies only

Right, enough, I have to go.... I promise not to talk about prams for at least a week the next 7 weeks.

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 19:03

Thanks zooplankton.. I have been a smoker for 14 years so it's not easy! I assume it's not Alan Carr the comedian? :-)

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 19:04

Btw I just had to think how long I was a smoker for and 14 years was a shock!

turnwest · 12/02/2012 19:22

Litlan- I m just taking folic acid and vit d supplements, can't swallow the pregnancy vitamins they are pretty big, I try and get everything else from a varied diet. I told my close family and friends as soon as I found out, I was really excited and if something goes wrong I might need their understanding and support.

Missbone- I m at home all day too by myself with a cat, I took 5 yrs unpaid leave after I had my DD and I m not due back until next year, DD is at school now and I try and keep busy but sometimes I get a bit bored too.
