Just had a BFP and wondered if anyone wanted to join me in the rollercoaster ride over the next few months

No prawns! Drat. There goes my favorite chineese food dish!

Is anyone else having trouble distinguishing between gas/digestion pains and "that could be something going terribly wrong" pains?

Oh and I thought it might be helpful for us all to try and put out week in the beginning of our threads so everyone can figure out who they match up wuth here symptom wise. We coulc now be nearly 4 weeks apart from each other.

4 weeks over here

Ps went to the thrift shop and bought a coup e maternity-ish tops yesterday. I'm nuts! I also got a couple sleepers and that say grandma or grandpa on them to give as gifts to reveal our pregnancy to or folks. Oh and a couple really cute halloween ones to give them a clue on when we are due.

Sassee · 12/02/2012 15:14

I'm sure the NHS list only says no raw shellfish, on that basis cooked prawns are fine no?

Angelico · 12/02/2012 15:28

I think the article is basically saying that this is a very emotive area - and therein lies the problem. If anything goes wrong people immediately start thinking, "Was it something I did?" and the answer is a resounding no. In fact the midwife told me this last week - anyone losing a baby at this stage - there is nothing anyone could have done done differently.

I thought it was an excellent article and made some really interesting points about the whole issue of 'controlling' pregnancy. As my mum said people were having babies quite happily before any of these guidelines came along but then it wasn't socially acceptable for women to be binge drinkers or even to have more than a couple of glasses of wine. I think the article makes one really important point - these decisions should be evidence led not made in a bout of anxiety and guilt. Ironically I don't eat soft cheese, pate etc simply because I find them disgusting - but for anyone who gets a desperate craving you might want to read the article and make an informed decision.

As for alcohol - I fully intend to continue with my 'one glass of wine a fortnight when I'm out for dinner' habit :o We never drink at home so I enjoy a glass of wine when I'm out (DH doesn't drink at all, doesn't like the taste and I resent opening a bottle at home, only to have one glass and pour it down the sink a week later).

Ironically it has left me slightly nervous of my shop bought salads for lunch though... :o

Angelico · 12/02/2012 15:31

And Missbone I actually agree that if anyone struggles to give up the vino there may be more to it all than meets the eye. But in defence of the journalist I think her point is that these new guidelines to avoid alcohol completely are not based on any actual new evidence. I know one of the royal colleges (can't remember which one) still says a couple of units a week is fine. So people need to make their own informed decisions.

twolittlemonkeys · 12/02/2012 15:32

Beeblebear I have been doing that all weekend - getting quite sharp wind pains Blush then thinking something bad is happening. In my slight defence, I had very sharp pains when I MCd - they gave me morphine in hospital for it - ahhh. Beeble, I bought a gorgeous fleecy all-in-one which I gave DH along with my CB Digital BFP to tell him the news! :)

I think cooked prawns are ok, but I just avoid them altogether - it's to do with the chance of listeria being present, which can make you very ill and we're more susceptible to it, or it can cause complications when pregnant if you do get food poisoning.

I've been on Ebay checking out single and double buggies, DH thinks I've lost the plot!

I'm 5+2 at the moment (ie 3+2 from conception)

marvellousmarie · 12/02/2012 15:32

I have the worst acid! I feel like my throat is bubbling away! Aaaahhhh!

Welcome mrsclairemarie! my real name is mrs Marie Claire! I thought it was funny!

I think you can eat what the hell you like as long as it's fresh and in moderation. The only food you definately shouldn't eat id foods you wouldn't probably want to eat (like shark!)!

Kerry I think you are doing fabulously well not smoking! Also, are you by any chance a writer?? I could read your threads all day, thanks for making me smile Wink

I told my mom this afternoon, actually she guessed because I was turning down my wine Sad tbh I don't even want it! Smile

Angelico · 12/02/2012 15:35

Just read the latest posts there. We are ALLOWED whatever we want!!! we are not naughty children! We are simply pregnant ladies. If you're desperate for some 'forbidden' treat check out this thread - might cheer you up! :)

RichardAndJudysButtPlug · 12/02/2012 15:37

Hi

turnwest Hope you have a lovely day. Sorry to hear of your crappy few days.

sassee cooked prawns are fine.

I haven't been on the thread for a few days as have been so busy with work etc. Nothing much to report apart from the fact that I am exhausted in the evening, getting waves of nausea which isn't bad at all and my boobs are still sore and are HUGE. I went to M&S to get fitted for maternity bras and I have gone up two sizes already. My boobs grow so much during pregnancy. I spoke to the midwife who has booked me in for the end of the month. My midwife is a man btw. Fabulous Grin

I'm still only 4+5. This last week seems to have taken forever. What is the next 8 months going to be like?

RichardAndJudysButtPlug · 12/02/2012 15:37

rofl at me pointing out I have nothing much to report then I go on to write a ruddy great paragraph.

Angelico · 12/02/2012 15:38

Twolittlemonkeys you are not alone. I started looking at buggies but went reptilian at the sheer choice. We live near brilliant beaches so a three wheeler with inflatable tyres seems the best choice. In fact heading to the beach now - so enjoy your afternoon ladies :o x

missbone · 12/02/2012 16:35

Beeble, really good idea putting the status of our pregnancies on each post: I'm 6 weeks tomorrow.

Marie...what a compliment! No, I'm not a writer; my last jobs ran alongside each other for years: teaching assistant with EBD children and lapdancer ('tis true). I was sacked in 2007 from my school for hitting a year eleven pupil around his head (he had no emotional difficulties or special needs - he was purely a cruel, fat wanker). I descended into alcohol addiction rapidly thereafter. I lapdanced for eight years from the age of 30, and was finally sacked for attacking perverts/falling off the pole/placing fake turds on punters' chairs/sleeping with the Welsh doorman (I think the fact that he was Welsh was the final nail in the coffin of my numerous misdemeanours).

I love writing and can be very opinionated, which is why I flourished at my Education degree at university. However, 3 months before I was due to graduate - and ravaged by alcoholism - I collapsed during my presentation on 'Post-colonialism & Globalisation in Zimbabwe' (don't ask). Several admissions to hospital for liver/stomach problems and hysterical suicide attempts ensued and resulted in my leaving university - £24,000 in debt and sans a degree. I have excellent 'O' & 'A' level results.....but that is it.

Since leaving rehab I have resisted the pressure I put on myself to carve out a 'noble career' and have simply enjoyed the recovery process and the peace sobriety has brought me. There is nothing in this world I know I can be better at (or more fulfilled by) than being a mother. So...as much as I envy all the career ladies on here, and as much as I lament sitting here every hour of every day with nothing but daytime TV and my darling DP (and cat) to keep me stimulated, I thank God Almighty for my precious life and His wonderful gift.....my baby.

twolittlemonkeys · 12/02/2012 16:41

R&J Grin A male midwife? Fab!

My boobs do nothing in pregnancy but go up 3 cup sizes when the milk comes in! I love it when I'm breastfeeding as it's the only time I have decent sized norks. I too am basically wishing away the next 7 weeks. I do find pregnancy seems to speed up once I start to show (except for the last couple of weeks when I can barely move at all with the SPD I get and feel like a beached whale! That'll be interesting this time round with a school run to do Confused

BabyDustPlease · 12/02/2012 16:42

RichardAndJudysButtPlug or anyone else for that matter would you recommend maternity bras? My boobs are absolutely killing me, especially when I first get up in the morning and when I take my bra off at night.

I too have been looking at the mothercare website to get ideas for prams, sterilisers, everything really! I have been waiting for this time for a very long time!!! I even found a great list on the mothercare website telling me everything I need to buy! Can't wait to start shopping!

Has anyone thought about telling work yet?

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 16:43

Prawns are abso fine as long as well cooked and in date. I am now avoiding them from the Chinese but had a lovely prawn risotto from Waitrose yesterday as figured that would be fine. I DO like some of the rest of you find myself craving pate and Brie which I hardly ever ate before just because I can't have it! Lol

I too like you Missbone have given up cigarettes which was much harder than I thought! I guess I figured being pregnant I would just stop wanting them - I didn't!! Hardest of all though was my shark habit... That has been tough to give up (wink)

Thanks twolittlemonkeys for the tip on prams but I live in London - so Rugby is a bit far! I have discovered 'The Pram Centre' at Oxford that looks promising... Just really wanted to go to the baby show! Has anyone any thoughts on the pram they want? I want a 3 wheeler for walking the dog and like the look of the iCandy joggers... Though you never know til you see them in real life

I am exactly 5 weeks today!

BabyDustPlease · 12/02/2012 16:44

Ps, I am finding all this prawn talk very amusing as we have named our little bundle of joy Prawn. hehe!

Also, I'm 6+1 today xx

TheGrandOldDuke · 12/02/2012 16:45

Hi missbone this will, all things going well, be my second. I'm 30. Whilst the sickness is hideous, I think having DS to concentrate on, it takes my mind off it. First time round, it was all I could think of 24/7.
Yes looking at the prices of buggies etc I'm pleased our previous one has enough wear left in it for this time round!

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 16:46

Btw ditto to everyone on the boobs... Very painful!!! Bra recommendations would be great!

TheGrandOldDuke · 12/02/2012 16:50

Peacocks do cheapie nursing bras for £4 which are not wired, I shall be digging mine out soon as my boobs are sore as anything!
Also M&S do simple ones.
HotMilk would be my choice, if I could afford!!!!

turnwest · 12/02/2012 16:53

Hello, I ve had a lovely afternoon, freezing but good. I ve also looked online at prams, mat clothes and starting thinking of names!! Can't help it, I m excited. No return of the dreaded spotting, so so far so good!!

I m 5 weeks today, not many symptoms yet, boobs got bigger then smaller, constantly bloated and quite a bit constipated, and I m also struggling with telling the difference between windy bowel pain and scary something's wrong pain, but I m thinking windy bowel pain moves all over your abdomen and comes and goes whereas scary pain probably does nt.

Hope everyone's had a good day. Xxx

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 16:56

Hi turn west-looks like we are date buddies :-)

litlan · 12/02/2012 17:18

Cheekychops29 · 12/02/2012 17:45

Hiya, I'm 6+4 today! Out of interest is anyone taking supplements? If so what are you popping? I've not had sickness feelings yet (thankfully) I was wondering if it has anything to do with the b6 I'm taking.... Not sure but I'm keeping taking them anyway haha! Also taking folic acid!

On the drinking front, I do like my alcohol so have taken to zero% acl beer x

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 17:56

Hi litlan - I don't think there's anything wrong with telling people close to you at all! I have told my mum and my best friend. Also with your pram it sounds like you want EXACTLY what I want lol. I like the iCandi apple and pear joggers and the Maxi Cosi Mura. I am also interested in Phil and Ted Explorer and Mountain Buggy but they look a bit hardcore - like they will be great off road but a bit big and long when taken shopping - I might be wrong I haven't seen them in real life.

Cheekychops I am taking pregnacare supplements - I am a bit rubbish at eating fruit and veg so wanted to be sure I was getting everything I need. I bought them online though as much cheaper!!

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 17:57

Btw Litlan the prams I suggested have a carrycot you can buy to make them into a pram (and carseat)
