Just had a BFP and wondered if anyone wanted to join me in the rollercoaster ride over the next few months

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

missbone yes i suppose they could give you false hope but for me personally it is a risk i am willing to take. I am a serious worrier and for me this scan is more about getting to grips with the fact that there is a baby and a pregnancy and the tests were actually telling the truth. I think everyone is different and go for them for different reasons. There is every chance I could mc afterwards but that chance is there anyway.

This will cheer you all up:

www.guardian.co.uk/society/2007/may/29/health.medicineandhealth

It was in the "What can I eat?" thread.

Twins - apparently only fraternal twins can run in familes, especially on mother's side - midwife asked me this last week. My mum did have twins but lost them - they were identical so just a quirk of fate.

Turnwest so happy you are feeling better. Enjoy your day and your chips! :o x

YompingJo · 12/02/2012 12:17

The only symptom I seem to have so far (apart from occasional faint twinges from the uterus region) is that I am being a complete cow to my DH. I'm not usually rules by hormones at all (love that litlan spells it hormoans , that's definitely how it should be spelt!)

Is this just me or is anyone else being out-of-proportion horrible?

BabyDustPlease · 12/02/2012 12:19

Angelico good article but it says you can't eat bagged salad Shock , i didn't know this did anyone else?

mrsclairemarie · 12/02/2012 12:37

Hi All, Hoping you don't mind if I join this thread! I'm 30 years old and I'm due on Oct 2nd This is my 2nd preganancy I had a MMC last June - scan at 11 weeks showed baby had stopped growing at 6 weeks 6 days. So I'm really hoping this pregnancy will be successful I've had problems conceiving due to a LPD and have been trying for a baby since Dec 09!

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 12:40

Welcome Mrsclairemarie! So pleased to have you here after all your heartache I really hope this one sticks!

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 12:44

I'd just like o say I think it's funny how many people have been looking at baby and maternity stuff... I thought I was the only one!! Lol

I had reeeeally wanted to go to the National Baby show - I thought all those prams in one place would be brilliant fun! But found out its in Feb or Oct this year! Would feel a bit of an idiot going when only 6 weeks pregnant and end of Oct will be too late :-(

mrsclairemarie · 12/02/2012 12:49

Thanks Vcarroll :) its so nice to have a bit of support on here. Think my DH must be sick of me constantly talking about the pregnancy and worrying all the time!!

missbone · 12/02/2012 12:53

Welcome MrsClaireMarie...and congratulations! Thanks

Angelico, my Mum is an unidentical (fraternal) twin, and neither her nor her sister had twins (ditto for my sister and cousin). Does this mean I am likely to have twins? How wonderful would that be!!

Vcarroll · 12/02/2012 13:02

Mrsclairemarie it's great isn't it being able to talk in detail with people who are all as obsessed as you are! :-)

Littlepurpleprincess · 12/02/2012 13:13

Lol. I'm glad I'm not the only one looking at baby things online already!

I also have a list on my laptop of the things I need to buy. Blush

I went to Mothercare yesturday to get some comfy bras because my boobs are really sore and they don't sell my size Angry. I had to go to M&S and buy some from their 'Angel' range. They say "My first Bra" on the label Blush Blush Blush But they are comfy Grin.

missbone · 12/02/2012 13:31

Angelico, thanks for the link to the Guardian article. I have to say that the author (Zoe Williams) infuriated me. You can almost hear the woman frenziedly ripping the gilt wrapping from her high-class bottle of wine and ramming her deli-bought goat's cheese and pate into her lip-glossed mouth, such is her obvious wrath at being told these substances may be harmful to her baby. So what if current guidelines say pregnant women should completely abstain from alcohol? If there is even the slightest risk that something you are shovelling/pouring down your throat could harm your growing baby, wouldn't any sane woman comply with current advice?

Im my opinion - and be warned, because this is controversial - any pregnant woman who is struggling to give up her beloved glasses of wine has an unhealthy relationship with alcohol to begin with. Yes, I am a recovering alcoholic highly aware of the dangers of this poison. Yes, I am now teetotal. However, I am not smug nor sanctimonious. I am, however, a pregnant woman who has had to give up a much beloved 25 year relationship with cigarettes - and I'm finding it terribly hard. But not as hard as digesting the news that my selfish addiction has harmed my child.

Littlepurpleprincess · 12/02/2012 13:45

Well said missbone.

For what it's worth, I think a person can really be good a parent if they can put their baby before thier own desires, so if they can't give up the wine now, they've got a shock coming to them when the child is born!

Well done on giving up the ciggies!

missbone · 12/02/2012 13:45

However, i will NOT be abstaining from my two Wispa Golds-per-day habit! Nor will I be suppressing my penchant for Tunnocks teacakes.....

Littlepurpleprincess · 12/02/2012 13:45

can't*

missbone · 12/02/2012 13:46

Thanks, LPP!!

Littlepurpleprincess · 12/02/2012 13:53

TBH though, I do find I really want the things we are not allowed, simply because I've been told I can't. I could murder a bacon, brie and cranberry sandwich, and a nice glass of Wine

missbone · 12/02/2012 13:58

Ha! LPP, I could happily smoke two packets of Lambert & Butler!! Sad

twolittlemonkeys · 12/02/2012 14:32

LPP - That's exactly what I'm like. Already I am craving prawns, brie, pate and eggs with runny yolks. Going to have to make do with scrambled egg though. Sunday lunch today is a greasy fry up, because I just can't be faffed with a roast!

Those ladies who say they'd love to have twins - you're not alone! I'm excited about my one in ten chance of multiples, though I know how hard 2 children with a gap are, so 2 together, waking in the night etc must be horrendous. Guess we'll have to wait until our scans to discover whether any of us are going to be mums of multiples!

VCarroll, don't know where in the country you are but 'the Baby Farm' near Rugby has a fab collection of prams to try out - by far the biggest collection I've seen - their prices are very competitive too. Website here

Littlepurpleprincess · 12/02/2012 14:35

Aren't we allowed prawns? Oops!

missbone · 12/02/2012 14:58

£599 for a pram????? You have GOT to be joking.

twolittlemonkeys · 12/02/2012 15:04

It's insane the price of some prams/travel systems. I will probably test drive them in the shop then buy 2nd hand on Ebay or something. I had a fantastic Phil & Teds buggy (cost me £400!) when DS2 came along but sold it on and got back £270
