Hi just joined Mumsnet and couldn't find a thread for Dec/Jan babies. Anyone due around this time?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Welcome, Kiwicath. Fascinating what you are doing. Must be tough now - waiting, especially on your own in foreign country. When will your DH join you? There are a bunch of different things you can do to move things along, although I've heard that all of them are myths. Sex is a big one, with lots of nipple tweaking - apparently produces some sort of hormone or something that speeds everything up. Also, my friend swears by a brisk walk - or walking in general as a good thing. Pineapple juice or pineapple, curries, spicy food. Good luck! I'm due on Christmas. I have a feeling now that I'm going to go early though. . .

deeno · 16/12/2003 20:15

Hi Tinyfeet, I'm due on Christmas too. What makes you think baby is going to arrive early. Have you been getting any bh or strange sensations?
Kiwicath, the castor oil sounds awful. Not long for you and marsup now.
Does anybody know the sex of their baby or are we all waiting for a surprise?
How about any names?

tinyfeet · 16/12/2003 20:25

Hi Deeno, I think I may go early because there is a lot of pressure down there right now - plus braxton hicks, although I've been getting those for a while now. The thing is that I think the baby 'dropped' yesterday. I'll find out in a few days at my next appointment, but I'm extremely uncomfortable right now. I'm having another girl. Don't know names yet, but have a short list and want to see what she looks like before deciding

tinyfeet · 16/12/2003 20:27

Deeno, just wondering - if you don't mind - since we're both due on the same day - when was the first day of your last period? Mine was 21 March. I'm wondering how close the calculations are.

deeno · 16/12/2003 20:41

Tinyfeet, first day of my last period was 20th March. So just a day before you. 25th Dec has always been E.D.D. and not been changed at any scans.

It's interesting you said you feel the baby dropped yesterday - I keep looking at my belly trying to make my mind up if its dropped or not.
Feeling pretty uncomfortable at times myself too, but not sure about bh's. Baby definitely feels low down and last week I saw the registrar at hospital who said baby's head is 'fixed' ?? I am seeing midwife tomorrow, so will wait to see what she says.
It's all very fascinating to me and I'm just relying on what midwife or other people tell me, and waiting for any weird or painful sensations.

tinyfeet · 16/12/2003 20:57

Deeno, is this your first? I didn't feel any bh with my first. Also, did not feel when baby 'dropped' last time. This is my second, and my doctor said that I essentially don't have the muscles I used to have, so the baby is resting uncomfortably on some nerve or something. The bh's are clear, I think, it's when your entire belly suddenly gets rock hard, but it doesn't last for very long. You may go much later than me, if this is your first, which it sounds like it is. Much more exciting the first time around

deeno · 16/12/2003 21:11

Tinyfeet, yes this is my first, and yes I am very excited, but also very nervous and worried about what to expect!
My belly does go rock hard but unsure about bh's because when it happens its not painful, just uncomfortable.
I imagine I will probably be late too with it being my first. Ideally between xmas and new year would be great . - although I know I can't request when it's going to happen!
My next hospital appointment is for 41 wks + 4 (5th Jan), that's if I make it until then, although by all accounts it it is possible i could still be waiting. There will be a few disapointed family members if baby hasn't arrived by then, as they are coming over to stay for New Year and will be back home by then! What will be will be .

popsicicle · 16/12/2003 21:15

i dont belong on this thread...but just popped in to see how you are all doing...
i am very excited for you....almsot feel broody myself!!!
good luck for the next few weeks, ladies!!!

deeno · 16/12/2003 21:16

Tinyfeet,
Wondering if you are going for home birth or hospital?
I wish we had a shortlist of names - we could only agree on one name for a girl and one name for a boy - so if name doesn't suit babe when he/she arrives we're stumped!

kiwicath · 16/12/2003 21:36

Hi guys, thought maybe you all went and had your babies without me!!! Feeling a bit crampy today but no bh (or at least I don't think so) Tum goes very hard but just think that is him having a wiggle. Still kicking me in the ribs and bad indigestion so don't think he has dropped yet. Going to quiz doc tomorrow at next appointment. Hubby will be joining me when he gets "the call". He will have to make it anyway he can as roads have washed out either side of the Suez tunnel. Might have to fly but not regular so may very well miss the whole thing. Say some prayers he doesn't as I really need some support. Name we have decided on: Jake Benjeman Dalton. Found out sex really early on as had to buy things in the the UK ahead of time. Boy oh boy, I'm excited!!

marsup · 16/12/2003 22:24

deeno, BHs don't have to hurt - I've been having really long ones since week 20-something and they weren't even uncomfortable at first, though they do take my breath away now as they are stronger. But I'm not convinced they mean the baby will come early, though I'd be really pleased if he did. Mine is a boy. The doctor said his head was only slightly engaged last week, and I can't really feel it. I guess that is the same as 'fixed', deeno? I like Jake Benjeman, kiwicath - Benjeman gives a little exotic edge to a classic name.

tinyfeet · 17/12/2003 16:29

Hi, I'm in the US, so different timezones - a bit annoying lapse in my responses. Deeno, I'll be having this baby at the hospital, as I did with my first. Agree with marsup, bh don't have to hurt - sounds like you're getting them alright. Also, with our first, we only had one name. Take your time in deciding and getting to know your baby. We felt pressured to decide on the name right away, and although I still like the name, I wish we had taken more time. Kiwicath - like the name Jake - very masculine sounding. I hope your DH does it make it there in time - if he doesn't he will be missing the most beautiful, happiest moment of your life! Since it's your first, I'm sure your doctor has said that you can expect a longish labour, so there will hopefully be time for your DH to get to where you are. Hoping the time flies quickly by here -getting a bit impatient.

deeno · 19/12/2003 23:15

Hello all, how is everyone feeling? Anyone heard any news from Karenanne following her c-section on Monday - I've been looking out for a birth announcement but not seen anything yet.
Like you, tiny feet, I'm getting a bit impatient now. I'm feeling pretty uncomfortable at the moment, not sleeping well. Really would like baby to come early
Midwife said again the other day that baby's head is 'fixed' but still some way to drop.
Jake Benjeman is a lovely name. We've decided on Phoebe Eleanor for a girl or Leo Derek for a boy (middle names after family members). I'm still not 100% though, although we can't agree on anything else.
Hope to get a decent nights sleep tonight.

marsup · 20/12/2003 12:31

deeno, we've decided on Leo as well.

My midwife won't tell me anything (she believes in going with the flow, I think, and I'm more of a control freak - definitely incompatible personalities), and I'd really like to know how much the baby's head is engaged. Is there anyway of telling by yourself, do you think? I do quite a lot of touching and I know where his bottom is and he plays 'footsie' with me on the other side, but he doesn't seem to have a head at all... only joking I did see one on the scan and it looked pretty normal back then!

I can't sleep very well anymore either - I'd be really pleased if little Leo decided to make an early appearance!

karenanne · 20/12/2003 18:00

hi all....sorry its taken so long to post things didnt quite go to plan and i have posted a quick message but put it on wrong forum.
tyler gerrard baker was born at 9.43am on monday morning by section ,hes beautiful and fine.
i however had abit of a rough time first they discovered that he was breech .got to theatre ok and had epidural but didnt work so ended up with a general then lost quite alot of blood.tyler well made up for it though.
recovered well though and got home wednesday morning after gentle persuasion of the doctor.
having to take it easy and take lots of iron tablets but its great to be home and have a little one again.amazes me how big and grown up dd(3) is.

joolee · 20/12/2003 18:34

Congratulations karenanne! Glad to hear everything is okay with you and the baby.

Now that the baby has dropped 3/5? into my pelvis it is actually much more easier to get around so feeling quite comfortable at the moment.

Picked up half my prescription for the Meptid painkiller injection after going to 3 chemists! Still have to go back for the anti sickness bit of it on Monday. Let's hope the baby doesn't make an appearance before then.

Actually it's got to come after Tuesday as we are going to watch Lord of the Rings Tues eve

Congratulations karennane and little Tyler!

kiwicath · 21/12/2003 09:15

Contrates Karenanne. Sorry it didn't go to plan but I'm realising that this baby business isn't a precise science! Hope all goes well for you all. Well, I'm offically due today but the little one has no intention of making an apperance. I'm feeling no different today that what I've felt for the past couple of weeks. Baby is still very high and enjoying kicking his mum mercilessly. Tell me, do you know when the baby has "dropped" and is this a must before contractions/labor starts. Everyday I'm waiting for different sensations, bloody shows, cramps etc but until now - nada! Does this also mean he will be REALLY late? Going to post this on the main page as well to see what I get.

marsup · 21/12/2003 12:22

Oops just saw this here kiwicath after having replied on your other thread.

tinyfeet · 21/12/2003 13:34

Kiwicath, I'm sure everyone has already told you that you are likely to be late, as this is your first. I was nearly 1 full week late. It might be Christmas for you (or later). I've been really tired lately, but aside from that, no signs either.

Hayls · 21/12/2003 18:30

Congratulations Karenanne. I don't really know if I should be on this thread, as my due date is 28th January so it could well be February! Never mind, I'm here now! I'm coming up to 35 weeks now and had a growth scan last week because they were concerned that baby wasn't growing enough. Thankfully everything was OK, although two of the measurements they took put me at further on than I thought, one at over 36 weeks, ( so much for baby being small for dates). THis, combined with a nasty urinary tract infection I'm only just starting to get over, made for a miserable week for me -and dh!- but I'm starting to feel a bit better now. No more work, thankfully. We're meant to be going to stay with family over Xmas but we're now having second thoughts because it's a 6 hour drive and we're a bit paranoid that baby will come early- haven't quite decided, will decide nearer the time depending on how I am. I can't imagine Xmas without my family!!! MW didn't see a problem with the journey- anybody had similar experiences?
Hope everybody is OK.

joolee · 21/12/2003 21:00

Sorry to hear about your miserable week Hayls. Hopefully Christmas week will be better for you. It's a difficult one about going to your family for Christmas as they are quite far away. I suppose it depends how confident you are about your due date?

Two of the seven couples in our nct group have given birth to their first babies 2 and 4 weeks early. It just goes to show that you can deliver early if it is your first baby .

I have a feeling that mine will be 1-2 weeks overdue though

marsup · 22/12/2003 22:10

Have you decided to stay put for Xmas, Hayls? my dp and I have just been to town (me hobbling) to M+S to buy nice ready-made dishes and chocolates for our Christmas Eve alone together (Xmas day too, but we're both used to celebrating C.Eve rather than Day for complicated cultural reasons). It'll feel pretty strange.

I'm afraid I'm feeling rather miserable these days, so Xmas won't be very festive anyway. My back and pelvis are hurting more every day and also the comfortable little Braxton Hicks I've been having since around week 20 have turned into unpleasant pain-front-and-back affairs that wake me up in the night. I can't believe I've got another 2 weeks to go till the official due date - and I can't believe I felt so good at 6 months pregnant! things have gone sadly downhill since then. Sorry about ramble but feeling very sorry for myself today.

popsycal · 22/12/2003 22:13

shouldnt be on this thread but keep your chin up marsup.....and be careful in that snow that we have at the moment!!!

marsup · 22/12/2003 22:15

Thanks popsycal - fresh snow doesn't scare me so much, it's tomorrow when it goes all icy that I'll be paranoid! this is not the right time for improvised skating lessons for me.
