Hi just joined Mumsnet and couldn't find a thread for Dec/Jan babies. Anyone due around this time?

Hayls · 01/12/2003 12:52

Thanks MArsup! Although like you I can't tell whaich bits are what...

joolee · 01/12/2003 17:50

I don't seem to have any stretch marks (yet!) but have a very dark linea negra both above and below my navel - I really hope it disappears after the birth. Does seem to support SenoraP's theory as I am Chinese.

hello everyone,
im due on new years day

tinyfeet · 01/12/2003 18:16

Hi ccc, I'm due on Christmas, but I'm thinking I'll have this baby more around New Year's. Congrats! Marsup, stretch marks on the belly are big fat red welty lines. I have different thinner whiter ones on my knees, so I know that I'm prone to them. For some reason, my stretch marks were much worse with my first pregnancy. I'm not sure why that is, but this time I have been using a Mustela cream, which was very expensive, but may have just done the trick. I still have some stretch marks, but they are not nearly as bad as last time.

Hayls, linea negra is the line that goes straight down from your belly button to your vagina. It gets very dark usually when you're pregnant. Mine is anyway.

SenoraPostrophe · 01/12/2003 19:49

tinyfeet - hate to blow your theory, but I also have no new stretch marks this pregnancy and I have been using nothing! (think that my skin is stretched as far as it will go now or something).

Hi chocolatechipcookie. Do you know what you're having (a boy for me)?

marsup · 01/12/2003 21:08

Tinyfeet also seems to ruin the nice theory about darker-skinned women getting linea negra and lighter-skinned women getting stretchmarks and no one getting both... drat! I was rather hoping that would work for me!

Did everyone see the birth announcement from wickedwaterwitch? makes me worry about being petite (half-Chinese) with a tall Caucasian dp. Joolee, did you do the sensible thing and go for a small guy? I've just realised that my mother (who is convinced childbirth is a walk in the park) had the advantage of being a tall wide-hipped German with a slender Chinese partner.

joolee · 02/12/2003 10:25

unfortunately, i just didn't think about the consequences - blond hair and blue eyes (ginger hair possibilities), tall (size problems) and broad shouldered (ouch!).

oh well, should be an interesting mix...

OP posts:
joolee · 02/12/2003 10:31

and the best bit...my dh was a 10 pounder!

OP posts:
SenoraPostrophe · 02/12/2003 10:52

ouch, joolee!

I am quite pleased now that dp is small. But there again, doesn't big baby = healthy baby? (and is that why Western women almost universally rate taller men as being more handsome, other things being equal? )

Marsup - I didn't mean no-one gets both linea negra and strech marks, just that some people are more likely to get the one and others the other. I do think you would have them by now though if you were going to get them. Or did anyone suddenly get stretch marks at 8 months?

Hayls · 02/12/2003 11:18

My stretch marks only appeared in the last week or so and I'm 32 weeks so I suppose I could get more? Don't have a linea negra either -well don't think so, can't quite see past my navel any more.
Jolee, your dp/h sounds just like mine- blonde, blue eyes, tall (6'4'' ). I'm also quite tall and we were both big babies and children so who knows what nature has planned! A friend told me that the size of a 6lb baby's head isn't too different to a 10lb baby's so shouldnt have too much of an effect on birth. What about the shoulders though...

marsup · 02/12/2003 17:16

Joolee, ouch indeed for the 10-pounder. Not much risk of ginger, though - I know a lot of Eurasians (Chinese-German - myself and brother; Chinese-Scots - some very beautiful cousins; Chinese-Canadian/caucasian something - other cousins) and ginger doesn't seem to be an option. Genes for dark hair are dominant, though it doesn't come out quite as thick as 'real' Chinese hair. But your child might carry the blond genes - one of my Chinese-Scotts cousins has a son (by a blond Australian soap-opera actor who didn't stay around long!) who is blond and blue-eyed but with almond eyes. It is rather striking as it would never occur to anyone he is 1/4 chinese.

Hayls, I read that the baby puts on most of its weight in the last month and a half, do you think that's when the head does its growth spurt too? (not that I was really planning to attempt a pre-term baby... although now you mention it...)

tinyfeet · 02/12/2003 21:01

I'm not sure what the theory was on linea negra and stretch marks. All I know is that I have both, and I am dark-skinned. Also, based on what SenoraPostrophe is saying - can we go back to Lucy - that's a long name there, it seems that the second time around, less stretch marks - thank God - they were horrible with DD1. But it sounds as though I've wasted my money on the Mustela cream.

How are we all feeling? Happy December! I don't know what it is, but I getting excited about being in the month of my due date. Not much longer!!!

Hayls · 04/12/2003 08:26

Hi. Can i just ask if anybody else finds foetal movement uncomfortable sometimes? I no longer get gentle kicks, the best way I can describe it is that she's practising Tai Chi (dh's definition, having felt it) and I can see my bump moving up and down and side to side. It really hurts sometimes!! It seems to be mainly on my left side and when i saw mw yesterday she said that baby was head down so is this likely to be arms/ punches? I (naively) assumed that movement would be small flutters and occasional kicks from tiny limbs!

joolee · 04/12/2003 15:01

thanks for the ginger comment marsup. i will let you all know the outcome!

hayls, i find the movements quite uncomfortable too. many people tell me that they loved the feeling of the baby moving but i must say that i sometimes find the kicks painful and the squirmy feeling not v nice.

life does seem to be getting more difficult for me these days. moving anywhere is such an effort. oh well, only a few more weeks left...

OP posts:
Hayls · 04/12/2003 15:28

Jolee, so glad I'm not alone. I don't dislike it, in fact I panic if she doesn't do it for a while but sometimes can't believe something so small can be so painful!
My dh has blonde hair, eyelashes etc but his stubble is ginger. We;ll see!

marsup · 04/12/2003 16:56

I agree, Hayls and Joolee, the movements can get pretty intense. Mine has a particular favourite spot to stretch out his foot that I swear must be bruised on the inside by now. But I like it... not that I'm really masochistic but I like feeling a muscly little animal in there. At least one of us is energetic at the moment!

marsup · 04/12/2003 17:00

By the way, when are you due Joolee?

As far as I can tell, the list is roughly as follows:

Tinyfeet - 24 Dec
chocolatechipcookie - 1 Jan
marsup - 6 Jan
sicny1 - 10 Jan
SenoraPostrophe - 12 Jan
Hayls - 31 Jan?

Who have I missed?

SenoraPostrophe · 04/12/2003 17:07

Eeek! It seems so close now you write it down like that. I'm torn between wanting to be able to roll over in bed without waking up/have my belly back and wanting more time to get things done before ds arrives!

joolee · 04/12/2003 18:11

i am due 30 dec but feel sure it will not be until at least the first week of jan - first baby and all that.

OP posts:
tinyfeet · 04/12/2003 23:51

Oh my - I'm not next, am I?? I thought there were so many others in the next couple of weeks?? Must check the other thread. I have also been feeling extremely uncomfortable foetal movement - feels like gas or stomach irritation almost, but not really painful. Trying to finish Christmas shopping!!

karenanne · 05/12/2003 08:31

hi thought id post here ..actually due 27th december but booked in for section on the 15th.feeling apprehensive and excited all at once.silly really considering this is my second.
also agree on the movements thing mine are painful especially when round near my belly button.
good luck to all of us waiting

Rhubarb · 05/12/2003 10:10

Me Marsup! Due any day now - officially the 10th but my dates make me earlier.

marsup · 05/12/2003 10:27

There are others, tinyfeet, but on the Nov/Dec thread. Not many in January though!

I've had a few evenings where the B Hicks were so strong I thought I might be having a december birth, but they don't seem to turn into anything short and rhythmic (more continuous, in fact). It only hurts when the baby tries out kung fu movements during contractions.

Revised list:

Rhubarb - 10 Dec/NOW!
karenanne - 15 Dec
Tinyfeet - 24 Dec
Joolee - 30 Dec
chocolatechipcookie - 1 Jan
marsup - 6 Jan
sincy1 - 10 Jan
SenoraPostrophe - 12 Jan
Hayls - 31 Jan?

marsup · 05/12/2003 10:30

By the way, I take back everything I said about Chinese /half-CHinese babies being smaller:

link from in the news thread

Hayls · 05/12/2003 11:01

I was 21st Jan but the scan changed it to 28th Jan so you were almost right Marsup!
