Lovemarmite · 19/01/2012 19:13

Hi peeriebear I guess I've been fortunate in getting an appointment earlier. I think I'm due around 10 days earlier than you but I am not sure if I was just lucky in nabbing the mw on the phone the day she got back from sick leave?!
Can you try and get one earlier?

NeedlesCuties · 19/01/2012 19:53

Hello all.

Well since I've written my last post I've been sick twice more. :(

Terrible pains in my back, prob from lack of fluid. Going to get urine checked later by DH (he's a doctor)... oh how romantic!

Marmite In reply to your query: over here in NI we do our booking in appt with hospital midwife at same appt as we're getting scan. They ask the questions, we answer and they fill them in. From memory the appt lasted abou 3 hours!!! I'll be having booking in scan and appt on 2 Feb.

Gingerelle · 19/01/2012 20:00

Hi all- found you again!! Hope you're all well. Things are finally feeling much better for me'- boyfriend got his head together and being much more supportive, and we've been able to start talking about moving, scans, names etc....finally feels like we're getting excited about being parents! We've told our parents now and they are thrilled and being hugely supportive which has helped loads. Now I just can't wait to start telling other people! Seeing midwife for first time tomorrow so hopefully will know when scan is soon ish. Although I'm having a bday party for my 30th on sat and with my well known love of the red stuff it's possible I'll be rumbled by a few people then! Other than that all good- boobs still killing and I'm
Considering wearing a bra to bed it's so bad but thankfully nausea has remained fairly low level....hope you're all doing ok, G x

Gnomi · 19/01/2012 20:05

Good to see you back Gingerelle!

Marmite, it took 2 and a half weeks between my booking in and my scan, and that was including Christmas.

Needles, it sounds like you have hyperemesis, I think there's a support group on here somewhere. Definitely mention it to your midwife though.

I'm also officially 12 weeks today! I do have a teeny tiny bump, and my proper scan is next Wednesday. We'll go properly official then, so exciting!!!!

Angel786 · 19/01/2012 20:23

Oh needles big hug. I just had Ginger ale to help with the sickness, and sleep as much as you can. Hope it feels better soon, apparently it's a good sign as it's the placenta bedding in.

I'm with you hamncheese I don't eat eggs, bacon, sausages so used to have fish finger sarnies when the rest of the team get bacon sandwiches, eggs etc.

Welcome the rumours exciting times!

glitter hope you manage to enjoy it, I've been avoiding work socials as they always end up in a boozefest, even lunches.

Dd was in a foul mood yesterday, non stop grumps. made me v sad but feeling much better now. The only time she laughed was when I was crying :-/.

Purplelooby · 19/01/2012 20:48

Sooooooooo constipated. Any ideas? It gives my tummy ache sulk and I've eaten an orange but it just left a funny taste in my mouth. And didn't make me do a poop.

voscar · 19/01/2012 20:50

Aww needles I've been there and it's no fun - really feel for you. I went to the doctor in the end and he gave me anti emetics, but did mention hyperwhatsit and said if it continued it would be hospital! So please please chat with your doctor or midwife and see if they can give you anything before it gets to that point. Good luck!

glitter sending some virtual 'fun time' vibes your way. I hope that your friends do make an effort to include you a bit more in the rest of the weekend/activities. Just hang on to thr prize at the end!

voscar · 19/01/2012 20:54

purplelooby I suffer from a bowel defect in the first place so pregnancy is making that even worse. I spoke to the doctor and he told me it was fine to take my normal laxative (dulcolax).

I tried fybogel, senna, fibre, prunes etc etc and none did anything for me but do work for others!

eightieshopaholic · 19/01/2012 21:05

Purplelooby- I had the same, I eat cereal or porridge for breakfast with mixture of seeds inc flax seed then make sure eat brown bread if have bread and at least 5 fruit and veg per day took a few days but all been fine for last few weeks x

JParkson · 19/01/2012 21:07

dear dear I leave you for all of 3 days and 100+ posts for me to wade through are awaiting me!

I've skim-read through, so here goes...

Congratulations welshlady on your engagement!

welcome to the new ladies, and congratulations of course :)

Glimmer I'm in Swindon too!

Marmite how about having marmite on pasta? I often have marmite spaghetti ala Nigella Lawson. (presuming either you can cope with normal pasta or else gluten-free pasta is tolerable!)

needles that's awful. I had that over xmas, and I hate to say it was a stomach bug in my case :( and hope you feel better soon

I have the date of my scan now - next Thursday yay! MW had to phone and chase the scanning dept for it, but at least I've got it now. DH is coming with me, but I nearly died when the lady advised me to "bring £10 in change if you'd like any photos"... Shock Hmm

pardon?! It was bad enough that it was £5 for 3 when I was pg with DD! But £10?! Hmmm. Maybe I won't be buying any this time (a pity, but £10 is £10 - 1/4 tank of fuel for me)

JParkson · 19/01/2012 21:15

Oh goody, I wondered when being bunged up would enter the fray!

I was permanently struggling when pg with DD, and I would have struggled without my repeat prescription for lactulose Blush . TBH, I have always had problems going, at least since having DS, but I never did anything about it until recently.

Since going on a diet, and regularly eating loads of fruit & veg, I've been more regular, and if I find myself struggling after eating too many cakes/biscuits/slices of white toast I find having either a good amount of fruit & fibre or all bran type cereal each morning helps.

Lovemarmite · 19/01/2012 21:33

Great to hear your scan date is through JParkson and marmite on gluten free pasta - wow, not thought of marmite with pasta... hmm may have to try it.

Definitely agree - fruit, veg, flax seeds, whole grains - lots of fibre and water has helped me keep regular. If you can stomach it, then aduki or mung beans and brown rice are really fantastic but I'm not sure if they should be eaten too many times as it's a bit too cleansing if you know what I mean! Also a couple of pears with their peels on and nothing else for a while are meant to be fantastic way of getting things moving and has worked for me in the past. Wow we all sound very healthy!
Let's just ignore the dairylea and the matchmakers that I have stuffed down too!

JParkson · 19/01/2012 21:43

Oh yes, marmite spaghetti is a firm favourite of mine, and if when I can't be bothered to do a proper lunch, it's very quick and easy. Cook one portion pasta, add 1/4-1/2 tsp of marmite (however strong you like it) and mix! Throw over some grated cheese if you fancy and dig in. I have cherry tomatoes and cucumber sticks on the side so I have my healthy bit on the side.

Good point with the brown rice, I do have some in the cupboard. DH and DS hate the stuff, so it is left to me to munch on. I've gone off pears at the moment as I had an overkill of them a few weeks ago. DH does the shopping, and presumes that the shopping list I gave him 5 weeks ago is valid for this week... um, not quite! I'm swimming in cox's pippins apples at the moment Hmm [bemused emoticon]

Lovemarmite · 19/01/2012 21:53

ooo I might try the marmite pasta tomorrow for lunch, thanks for the recipe - like the healthy bits on the side too!

Hmm me too, I've eaten pears every day for years and now I look at them in the fruit bowl and they are being unloved. My fruit is pink lady apples - really sweet and yummy. Berries definitely a firm favourite but soo expensive and so they're a treat once a week.

£10 for scan pictures - wow, I wonder if that's the price across the country / NHS? Hmm I guess we might pay as we're, sorry I'm(!) only planning to do this the once. Would love twins as it would get two in one go but that would be too convenient and, probably too much like hard work, scrap that thought!

WelshLadyCDF · 19/01/2012 22:13

purplelooby . . . . be patient and gentle re your tummy troubles I had the same and overdosed on lentils and prune juice, it wasn't good Blush. just up the fibre intake a bit, drink water and wait.
We all seem a bit fed up with our food don't we, I feel sorry for my DP eating his dinner when all I want is a bowl of cereal.
I can't wait to get less belly and more bump!

Angel786 · 19/01/2012 22:22

That is pricy jparkson ours is £2 for three pics.

On the upside if any of you have IBS or food allergies (like me) the stomach aches subside during pregnancy and while bf. The constipation is a 'mare tho, hopefully none of us need the iron supplements as that makes it worse and the ahem poo becomes black!

hamncheese · 20/01/2012 07:58

Re: peeriebear / needles about booking/scans, has anyone else had experience of a scan at the booking appointment? I got my booking letter which didn't mention a scan, and is at a health centre antenatal clinic, but after calling a whole host of people I got two affirmative that I will get a scan then, but I don't trust them. I'll be 13weeks when I have my booking so if it is scanless I can see a major raging pregnant lady outburst occurring...!

angel786 - FISH.FINGER.SANDWICH! i'm having that tomorrow. obsessed with fish atm, it's my new meat, and especially if breadcrumbed or battered. Never been to the chippy so often in my life Blush eating massive salads at lunch to try and compensate for the wee one.

As for constipation I recommend fybogel in general, that is I took it for half a year before conception for general lack of regularity and it was brilliant. Had laxatives/lactulose and that kind of stuff gave horrible pain/cramps, but fybogel was good. Stopping taking it during MS as couldn't manage it but may restart soon.

Does anyone else showing yet? Each morning I get a little more podgey low down so freaking exciting it's like I'M MAKING THAT!! Grin

blackcatsdancing · 20/01/2012 09:12

Hi all,

i'm showing to myself! and DP says tummy is bigger. however can still fit into all my clothes. i feel self conscious but i really dont think anyone else can notice.

had booking in yesterday. was fine. Older MW which was reasurring, she said there were plenty of women where I live who have babies aged 40+ so i wasn't alone. I asked cheekily if she'd use the doppler to pick up fetal heart but she said no in case she couldnt pick it up - too early for it to be a certainty and she wouldnt want to put either of us in that awkward poisition of worrying afterwards.
Partner came with me (his choice ), appointment took exactly 1 hour. I suppose best bit was she reassured me a bit about my capability to have normal vaginal delivery so i will be going to a birth choices clinic later on to find out more and remain open minded for now. But how times have changed! 20 years ago i had to see a consultant to fight for a homebirth! now home births are routine round here and encouraged provided you are fit and having normal pregnancy , if i do decide i want elective c-section now i must see a consultant after the birth choices clinic, but they will never say no- they just have to issues warnings about what can go wrong- exactly as they did to me with home birth last time round!

My NT scan is next Thursday, obviously very nervous and counting down the days.

blackcatsdancing · 20/01/2012 09:29

p.s dp only says my tummy is bigger when i keep asking and then I get him to feel it to show its firm. we are both equally anxious so growing tummy is a good sign for us.

The3Bears · 20/01/2012 09:46

Hi everyone, feeling slightly better now which is good, still tired all the time though.
My belly seems to be smaller in the morning and then at night seems to balloon realy odd, anyone else the same? I am drinking alot of water at night though so mabye thats why :)
Less than a week now til my booking appt im getting very nervous about all the questions as it seems theres alot more now, sure it will all be fine though just want it to hurry up so I can finally have my scan booked Grin

Lovemarmite · 20/01/2012 09:47

Hi blackcatsdancing - great news on a good MW! and tummy showing :o
My MW was also more mature and was very kind, said she sees lots of ladies that are around 40, reassured me too.

I'm just over 10.5 weeks and my belly seems to have flattened (less wind I think) but I can almost feel a feeling in there when in bed in the morning. This morning I stretched out and realised that my belly felt quite tight and so I hope this is a good sign. I'm also waking up at 4am again on the dot which is annoying as I'd been getting better at sleeping for the past few weeks. Interestingly TCM says this is the lung time which may explain my breathlessness at the moment. OK, have just revealed myself as a crack pot!

Lovemarmite · 20/01/2012 09:49

Yeap The3bears definitely agree - flatter in the morning and bigger at night... water is my thoughts and found myself drinking more during the day and a bit less in the evening. Not sure its working though!
Great to hear you're feeling slightly better.

Lovemarmite · 20/01/2012 09:59

This may seem very random, but have looked into chinese medicine and it's not my lungs but feelings about true values that are making me awake at 4am... oh. OK enough of the deep thought, phew!

Hope everyone is having a happy Friday x

The3Bears · 20/01/2012 10:10

Thanks lovemarmite I've not been waking in the night as much now, just 6am which is abit annoying but I can cope with that for a bit. Im just finding it difficult to fall asleep not sure why but hopefully this will pass soon as I want to take advantage of full night sleeps for a while yet Grin

I can't remember how much my scan photos were last time it definitley wasnt £10 though! I just remember having a few pound coins as we had to put them in a machine, will ask midwife though.

Hope everyones having a nice day, im going to tackle my ironing in a minute and get some craft things ready on the table for ds coming home as he has his cousin round tonight so that will keep them busy! :)

blackcatsdancing · 20/01/2012 10:28

i forgot about scan photos prices. here in Brighton its £5 though don't know how many photos that gives you. Still last time around you didn't have the option of a print out at all (unless you went private) and yes i will carry on being annoying and commenting on how things have changed in past 20 years! Actually i watched 'call the midwife' last week, fascinating, blood transfusions in the bedroom, test tubes being boiled in the bedroom to check urine and one woman who had over 23 live births and all still alive! Gobsmacked.
i've also been night waking. its worry/anxiety related. Luckily i work only work 3 days a week so i can't complain too much as have plenty of time to relax.
