Hi all,
Just sharing you my news - had the scan today. Wow wee! there's a baby inside! it was so amazing, slept for some of the scan and then after a while it wriggled, waved and flipped from right to left. Good strong heartbeat and the nuchal measurements apparently are all very good, a visible nasal bone and healthy spine - yippeee!
Much relieved and now looking forward to Wednesday as we'll be seeing the baby again courteous of the NHS.
Really recommend a private scan if you can and if there's any worries there.

I've been dated now as 12+4, and so due on 9th August. DH said - that gives us less time now to get ready!

Hope everyone is doing well today x

JParkson · 30/01/2012 14:44

haha, moving! Um, I'm in a 2 bed coach-house, with 2 kids and a dog and negative equity to boot... I haven't got a snow-ball's chance in hell of moving any time soon.

We were/are looking at a loft conversion but our finance plan fell through (family member pulled the plug on us a week after promising us the money Angry)

So we're now on a 2 year living on baked beans and toast plan which should wipe out the loan which is causing the -ve equity. Once that's out of the way we can consider one of several options (loft, moving, swap house with my parents, rent ours out and rent bigger)

I have to say though, I'd much rather have a car and a bike in the shed (I have a kiddie trailer I can fit 2 kids in) than rely on public transport. I feel it's extortionate where I live, and I really don't think it's worth it. EG, to go to town, I could drive for 7 minutes, pay up to £2 to park, sling all my shopping in the boot and drive another 7 minutes home. Or else I could pay £3.50 for the pleasure of sitting on a bus which doesn't give change or offer returns, (and pay an extra £2.40 if I want to take DS with me), have a 15 min haul into town, lug my shopping around, have to haul it back on the bus too, not to mention the irritation of waiting for the bus because it's peeing it down and the driver's taking a fag break and not letting anyone on the bus to keep dry!

Ugh. I hate buses.

JParkson · 30/01/2012 14:45

Well done marmite, that is good news indeed :)

The3Bears · 30/01/2012 14:51

Hi everyone,

Thats such good news lovemarmite! so exciting now with all the scans Grin

I am a sahm aswell, money can be tight sometimes but you just make it work dont you everything will be okay in the end aslong as your paying bills and have food etc. Im just trying to get little baby bits every month to spread the cost out, dp got ds cot out of attic yesterday I was worried it would be a mess but it looks brand new so theres alot of money saved! :)

Hope everyones feeling okay! :)

JParkson · 30/01/2012 15:59

I'll be selling DD's pushchair to fund a double - hey ho. And I have expensive tastes too Blush

The3Bears · 30/01/2012 16:04

Grin Which double are you thinking of getting?

JParkson · 30/01/2012 16:13

A Phil & Teds. Not too bothered about which one, it'll be 2nd hand, but in reasonable nick, with a doubles kit and cocoon if possible.

It's the only one I really like, as it's a single with the baby lying underneath. By the time LO is old enough to really sit up, I'm expecting DD to be walking most places. I also like the big wheels and big basket underneath which seemes to be lacking in the more up-market candies and quinnies or whatever they are lol :o

I can't handle the side-by-side jobbies, because of my dodgy wrists, and I wouldn't be able to put the long tandem pushchairs in my car. So basically it's got to be one that's designed to be a single, and can be tweaked to a double.

I've played with a P&Ts in Mothercare, and found it really easy to push around, and collapse. Even with the doubles kit underneath, it folds down quite neatly. I've been put off 3-wheelers in the past because they seemed so big and bulky, and don't seem to collapse very well. But this one surprised me. DH liked it too, and if it's got his seal then I'm gunning for it :o

Angel786 · 30/01/2012 16:24

Hi all, Happy (!?) Monday....

Cars - way too expensive, ours was stalling and driving as if in the wrong gear (no- not b/c of my driving!) and apparently was the fuel injectors so having spent a small fortune getting those fixed, transpires the fuel tank or something needs doing too and all tyres replacing. Fast forward a month and no savings to our name!

Pushchair - I was thinking of a Phil & Teds too. Will break my heart selling dd's sugared almond silver cross and I don't know that I'll get much for it? How does one sell these things, ebay as buyer must collect / classifieds?

Still soooo tired all the time. Hoping energy rush comes soon.

OP posts:
JParkson · 30/01/2012 16:35

I'm stressing slightly about selling DD's Mama's and Papa's Ultima. Granted, I bought it 2nd hand (from a proud granny who used it only a handful of times) and have had good use out of it, but parts of it have hardly been used (carseat, and one of the chassis) because I had a huge thing about 'the perfect setup' when I was pg with her! I obsessed that the carseat had to be isofix compatible (which the one I had wasn't) so I bought a more up-to-date carseat which fitted the system I had. Then I splurged out on ebay and added a pram stand and another chassis to the setup, as I fancied a proper 'old fashioned' spring-style pram chassis just for when I used the pram. So all in all, I spent over £300 putting it all together (3, yes 3! car seats, isofix base, 2 chassis, pushchair, pram, loads of different footmuffs and accessories plus the stand)

In the end, when my car died, the original pushchair chassis was left in her at the garage and I've used the springy chassis ever since lol

So I've got a system that to buy new would cost over £750, and I haven't a clue either how best to sell it! I've tried gumtree and our local sales site on FB, with offers over £200, but so far I've had nothing.

I'm dreading ebay, as I think their fees are ridiculous, but I may have to bite the bullet and just do it

The3Bears · 30/01/2012 16:40

The phil and teds are nice not too big for a double, so a good choice :)

Im the same feeling tired all the time, just want to get things done though but have zero energy!

Still waiting for my scan date getting v impatient now Hmm

peeriebear · 30/01/2012 16:51

I had my booking appointment today with a nice older MW who knows my boss :) She was very cheerful and straightforward, and I hope to deliver in the local midwifery unit where she is head mw. I didn't have bloods taken as they give me panic attacks so I am having them done on Friday at my doctor's surgery by the sympathetic nurse who was very kind last time.
Hopefully getting scan date through this week!

Vinolover · 30/01/2012 16:53

Lovemarmite that's lovely news :) How did you find them at gatwick? I really did like them there and they're so caring.
When I have my scan on thursday I have to go to the ante natal clinic afterwards for my blood test. When I asked my mw if they will be expecting me she said no and that I would just have to wait. Oh great! The hospital always make you wait when you do have an appt, can you imagine what it will be like when you don't!?! Im hoping I will be just too happy to really let it bother me :)

I really hope you get your scan date soon the3bears. What's the hold up?

Did someone mention expensive taste when it comes to pushchairs? Erm, me too!

hamncheese · 30/01/2012 17:03

Just bough DH baby clothes for valentines. What do you get a man for valentines anyway? At least this kills two birds with one stone re:money Grin

great scan news marmite!

Anyone else having killer headaches that last all day and don't react to paracetamol? arrgghhh

Lovemarmite · 30/01/2012 17:13

vinolover baby bond were really lovely. Fully recommend them.
The sonograph was friendly and efficient and the lady who greeted us was very warm and friendly too. I think they move around Sussex and so are in different places on different days of the week.
I think paying helped as we were allowed to go in twice as the baby was resting and not getting into the right positions and so they asked me to jump up and down, clear my bladder, have a drink and stretch. It helped as LO flipped over and gave us a better look. At one point LO one was just staring at us and waving and not giving any profile for measuring. Once in position, the sonograph said that if the baby had been in the position at the beginning, then we would have been done in 5 minutes. I was glad LO wasn't as it was really great to watch for quite a while x

The3Bears · 30/01/2012 17:16

Me too vinolover Not sure really as midwife said I should get one asap because were not sure how many weeks I am just hope I hear this week tbh.

hamandcheese Ive had some really strong headaches this weekend mainly at night, Ive just been trying to sleep it off but not v nice at all. Good idea with the baby clothes for Valentines day idea, may try it with mine as he's all about saving money at the minute! :)

Lovemarmite · 30/01/2012 17:19

Me too with the headaches - although trying to drink more water as I've noticed that I'd dropped the habit recently!

Love the idea about valentines, I think I might get DH some chocolate hearts and then eat them too! :)

therumoursaretrue · 30/01/2012 17:48

hamncheese DP will also be getting clothes, his birthday was last week so I have exhausted all other present options, and he really does need clothes!

I am having a nightmare few days between bloody work and being generally hormonal and would quite like to hibernate until August! Hoping my scan on Wednesday will pick my mood up, although I am dreadfully worried about it too.

MrsLister · 30/01/2012 18:31

Great news about your scan lovemarmite!! Such a great feeling :)

+1 on the money worries too ladies. We are just about to buy our first house so all our savings will go, plus I earn considerably more than dh so not really sure how we'll cope for those months when we have to live off his salary alone. We have very separate finances so not sure how it'll all work out really.

I think I might just try and save up enough to get me through the final months of maternity leave (will prob only take 7 months off).

Today I have mostly been writing a 46 page PowerPoint report and am really, really wishing I could have a glass of sodding wine!!

xx

ArtyJennie · 30/01/2012 18:55

Has anyone else not got their 12week scan appt yet? I'm starting to get worried they've forgotten me! I'm 11.3 now and haven't heard about the appt. I'm not sure who to ask?! Its quite frustrating!

The3Bears · 30/01/2012 18:59

Artyjennie I havent had mine yet either, contact your midwife if your worried, im going to wait until the end of this week and if Ive not heard anything Im going to ring my midwife and see whats going on.

NeedlesCuties · 30/01/2012 18:59

arty have you rung your GP or hospital at any stage and told them you are pregnant? Surely if you've done that then they will automatically send out a letter about booking in and getting scanned.... Hope so anyway!

If I were you I'd ring the hospital you plan to have the DC in and ask their maternity or appointments departments.

Also, can you please tell me your stats so I can add you to the list of us all, and our due dates.

Here is mine for an eg.
NeedlesCuties (27) DC2 due 24/8/12 in Mater Hospital, Northern Ireland

The3Bears · 30/01/2012 19:02

Has everyone joined the tesco/mothercare/boots babyclubs. Ive just recieved my boots vouchers and they're really good, going to save me a bit!

MrsMigginslovespies · 30/01/2012 19:12

Lovely news about your scan lovemarmite! Really pleased it went well for you.

I'm also at home, having taken voluntary redundancy last year from the Cabinet Office in order to move to Scotland to be with my DH. I've not really worked much since, because I wanted to focus on getting better from all the surgery crap and to focus on IVF in October. I'm now doing a bit of freelance work (sort of similar to my old private office job) but not sure how well it's going so far. Bit too random for me, but need the money, so will see, plus would be nice to get some form of maternity pay too. My DH is a teacher, and we get a school house, but it's onsite, and not very big, so we'll need eventually to think of how to buy somewhere/rent at a pinch. It's a real worry because we've no savings really and want to one day move on.

YY to headaches, although I do take paracetamol for them when they come. Apparently, they can be due to your eyeballs changing shape when preggers which is really wierd! Can also affect eyesight afterwards, so worth keeping an eye (ho ho) on.

Having cottage pie for supper, then an early night (again) as it's freezing and I'm knackered after 9pm!

Funny old day! x

MrsMigginslovespies · 30/01/2012 19:13

BTW, old job not as glam as I make it seem!! Twas bloody hard work.

eightieshopaholic · 30/01/2012 19:45

Hey ladies, should I wait till 13wks or 14wks for a private scan, had nhs at 9wks but really need some reassurance all ok am 12+2 today so really want to know reached this point. Nhs won't scan me till 20wks only offering blood test??

Partner says being silly and not to have a scan, may be just me but with no symptoms feel would stress less if saw little one x
